Chapter 1 - Silent Coffee
Error's POV
I opened the door to be welcomed by the safety of my college dorm. On the left side of the room, I saw Ink, who was my best friend.
Ever since I can remember, Ink has been mute. Ink told me that he couldn't verbally speak because of a birth deficiency but, he didn't give details as he was uncomfortable with it. The only noises that Ink could make was sneezes, coughs, and sighs.
Ink always expressed his feelings through paintings and sketches. He was able to communicate through sign language and wings dings, but chose not to most of the time. Wing dings was a sign language that Ink and I created to share just between us.
Ink looked up from his sketchbook and smiled. He gave me a little silent wave before looking his book again.
Me: Hi Ink. How was your day?
Ink shrugged to tell me that his day was uneventful.
Ink: "Boring."
He signed to me in wing dings. I threw my rucksack to my bed as I headed toward Ink's bed. Sitting in front of him, I looked at what Ink was drawing. Ink's cheeks turned rainbow as he avoided my eye sight. I assumed he was embarrassed of his drawing.
Turning the book around, I saw what he had drawn. The drawing was of two male silhouettes kissing. Ink quickly grabbed his sketchbook, holding it against his chest. He shook his head which told me that he wasn't comfortable with sharing that one.
Me: Please, Ink. I love looking at your drawings.
Ink cheeks turned a solid shade of rainbow. I gave him puppy eyes to convince him. Ink sighed before timidly giving me the sketchbook. I was able to get a good look at the drawing.
Me: This is really good, Ink.
The artist rubbed the back of his tattooed neck, awkwardly smiled, and blushed rainbow. All of this was to signify that he appreciated my comment. I stood up from the bed after I handed the drawing back to Ink.
I walked to my side of the dorm room. There was homework from class that I needed to finish but I wasn't in the mood at the moment.
Me: Hey Ink.
Ink glanced at me for a minute so I knew that he was listening.
Me: Do you want to do something?
He tilted his head to the side, curious for my next response.
Me: Do you want to get coffee? While we're there, maybe I can find a nice girl.
Unlike Ink, who was gay, I was straight and liked females.
There was something in Ink's eyes before it disappeared. Ink nodded before standing up from his bed. He grabbed his brown scarf and wrapped it around his neck.
(Time Skip)
We walked into the café. I admired the pretty women that were inside the building. Ink ignored the other people as he headed towards the counter.
I followed him to help him order. I've always helped Ink out in public, talking for him and stepping in verbally.
Me: What do you want to order?
I whispered to him. My best friend looked at the menu before signaling towards a certain drink.
Me: Caramel Ribbon?
Ink nodded with a small amount of determination. I talked with the lady to get our orders. I couldn't help but stare at the lady behind the counter.
Me: What's your name?
Lady: Martina.
Martina smiled at me and blushed, I did the same back. We stared at each other then, I eventually broke it. Looking to my right, I noticed that Ink wasn't there. I started to slightly panic. With Ink's social anxiety, he couldn't survive without me.
Martina: Call me.
She winked at me as she slid a piece of paper into my hand. Ink's drink was gone which meant that he already has his. I grabbed mine and began to search for my friend.
I found him sitting outside on the curb while taking small sips from his coffee. He had a sad expression.
Me: Hey. What's wrong Ink?
I asked as if expecting him to answer me back. Ink turned his head away from me before placing his cup on the ground next to him. He began to sign.
Ink: "Nothing... it's nothing."
Me: You can tell me.
Ink: "I'm fine."
He suddenly aggressively sighed as he picked up his drink. I guess he saw someone that pissed him off, that happens often.
Me: Well...
You can always talk to me
