2: Exchange

Stratos and the Star went downtown looking for Matt the chosen Guardian of Eden the Spectral of Exchange. Stratos drove according to the Star's directions. Stratos thought he would be looking for a pawnshop but as he followed the Star's instructions he realized they were in a part of the city where wealthy people go to spend their wealth on gambling and alcohol.

"Stop here," The Star said.

Stratos pulled over on the curb in front of a building with a very distinct and worrying sign above it. The sign was indigo with a snake eating an apple with the glowing words: Forbidden Fruit Casino and Bar.

"Are you sure we have the right place?" Stratos asked.

"Why wouldn't I know? I was sent by the Spectrals that chose you and your team and Eden cares deeply about Their chosen Guardian. But you probably already know that," The Star said.

Stratos did know that. Matt and Eden had the closest relationship of the Spectrals and the Guardians of their team. As in Eden actually spoke with Matt. Breaking the rule that Spectrals and Their chosen Guardians weren't supposed to communicate. If there was any Spectral that would defend Their Guardian in anything it was Eden with Matt.

"Alright. Let's go see my old friend," Stratos said.

Stratos and the Star got out of the car and walked into Forbidden Fruits. The entire place was fancy as hell and looked extremely expensive. Which made Stratos wonder how Matt got this kind of place.

"Excuse me sirs. Do you have a reservation or would you like to make one?" An employee said after walking up to the two.

"Neither. We're here to see the owner," The Star said.

"Do you have an appointment?" The employee asked.

"No. But if you could find him and inform him that it's an urgent matter we would appreciate it," The Star said.

The employee chuckled awkwardly. The Star's demeanor was very dramatic and made Stratos a victim of the worst condition known to man. Second-hand Embarrassment. Stratos at that point wanted to leave. It was clear by the employee's body language that he and the Star weren't going to see Matt.

"Christine darling~. Could you head over to the bar please~? Manolo needs you to pick up some wine to give out to our guests. I'll take care of these darlings for you~," A familiar voice said.

"Yes sir," The employee said before heading off in the direction of the bar.

Stratos looked over to see his old friend. Physically he had the appearance of a teenager or young adult with long dirty blonde hair, pale skin, and sparkling sapphires for eyes. Matt. The Spectral Guardian of Eden. Human representative of the concept of Exchange. Enchanted by his immortality gifted to him by being a Guardian to appear older than he did to anyone who wasn't aware of the Guardians and Spectrals' existence.

"Well I'll be damned. I can't believe it. Stratos~! It's been over 200 years hasn't it? How have you been~?" Matt said.

"U-um. Busy. College has been kicking my ass," Stratos said.

"Well busy is better than dead am I right? Come with me. Let me get you and your dramatic friend here a drink," Matt said.

He gestured Stratos and the Star in the direction of the bar. The three sat down and Matt ordered himself a glass of red wine.

"What would you and your friend like to drink?" Matt asked.

"Oh I'm fine and my friend here doesn't need to eat or drink. I think," Stratos said.

Matt raised an eyebrow in confusion as the bartender gave him his drink. He grabbed his glass and took a small sip.

"Well yeah. He's....uh........a Star sent by the Spectrals," Stratos said.

Matt choked on his wine and coughed wildly. He calmed down soon after. It was unsettling to watch to be honest.

"The Spectrals? Why did they send a Star?" Matt asked.

"Well because.......they want us to reform the team to defend the universe," Stratos said.

The Star nodded.

"I-I see. But I thought we defeated all the monsters 200 years ago," Matt said.

"It was a temporary fix unfortunately. But now they've returned and the Spectrals need your powers as Guardians again," The Star said standing up from his seat.

Matt sipped his wine. He seemed to be contemplating the situation. Stratos could tell that Matt might need to worry about his business. But the universe was in danger.

"What would I get in return?" Matt asked.

"Are you seriously asking that for saving the universe?" Stratos asked.

"I'm the chosen Guardian of the Spectral of Exchange. I need something of value in return for my service," Matt said.

Stratos sighed. What could be of value for saving the universe? Stratos hated the thought of something having to be as valuable of saving the universe. So he offered all he could.

"Seeing the team again. That's all I can offer. I know you haven't seen any of them in the 200 years we've been apart," Stratos said.

Matt's hand clasped tightly around his wine glass. Clearly that got to him. The team was so close 200 years ago. Until they split up after completing their mission. Matt sighed. He definitely seemed to be contemplating it.

"Fine. Deal. Meet up here. We'll discuss it over drinks," Matt said.

Stratos smiled.

"Thank you Matt," Stratos said.

"Yeah yeah whatever. By the way Pierce is already on his way here. He's a regular at the bar. Ever since he got divorced and lost visitation rights to his kids and was fired he's been quite the drunkard. Send him here once you tell him the situation," Matt said.

Stratos smiled. He gave his old friend a quick hug before leaving with the Star to find the next member of the team. Pierce. Chosen Guardian of Shin the Spectral of the Hunt.
