1: Re-Called
A sunny day over the city of Crystal Heights. The sunshine especially seeming to shine through the dorm window of the very tired and overworked college student Stratos Armena. Who did NOT want to get up that morning. Stratos reached his arm over to his phone on his nightstand and checked the time.
8:50 A.M.
"SHIT!" Stratos yelled as he realized he was gonna be late.
He quickly got out of bed and got ready. Not bothering to style his blonde hair he changed his clothes, grabbed his glasses and a small donut he had stored for breakfast before gathering his stuff and running out of his dorm to get to his class.
As he ran across campus he messily put his glasses on over his green eyes. He couldn't be late for his class. He desperately needed the credit to graduate. So safe to say being late wasn't an option.
Luckily for him he made it with a few minutes to spare. He settled down in a seat next to his best friend Rory.
"Dude you look like shit," Rory said.
"I actually appreciate that. It reassures me that I still exist," Stratos said.
Rory sighed as the lecture began. Stratos sat upright paying attention to his professor. But internally he wanted to go back to bed.
After class Stratos and Rory walked out of the room talking about how they were gonna spend their time when summer came around.
"Personally I'm gonna take it as easy as I can. Maybe spend some time with the lady," Rory said.
"Oh yeah how is Mindy by the way?" Stratos asked talking about Rory's girlfriend.
Rory took a sharp breath in before sighing. He was clearly about to say something not necessarily good.
"Well she's definitely been better. Lately she's been concerned with our lives together after we graduate. Talking about marriage, kids, all that stuff," Rory said.
Stratos knew all too well that if there's one thing that Rory dreaded it was family stuff. Since his family wasn't all that great. Especially over the fact that Rory didn't want to be something like a doctor or lawyer. Or something like that. So Mindy wanting to discuss having a family with Rory wasn't the best idea in Stratos's mind.
"Well I hope you two can talk it over," Stratos said.
"Thanks Stratosphere. Well I gotta get going I have a class soon. You?" Rory said.
"My next class is later in the afternoon so I'll see you later Rory," Stratos said.
"Later Stratosphere," Rory said.
The two friends walked away from each other with Stratos walking back to his dorm to prep for his next class. As he walked across campus he honestly couldn't wait for the day to end. With how tired he was it was only logical.
Stratos arrived at his dorm truly tired of the day.
"Greeting Guardian of the Spectral of Rebirth," A male voice said.
"Hey," Stratos said his brain not clicking there was a stranger in his dorm.
Until it did click in his brain there was a stranger in his dorm. He quickly looked up and saw a man wearing a silver trench coat and a hood. Just standing next to Stratos's bed like it was no big deal.
"Who are you?" Stratos asked.
"I am a Star sent by the Spectrals," The man said.
Hearing that sent Stratos back. Memories from over two hundred years ago.
"What do they want? I'm out of the business. Me and my team defeated the monsters threatening the universe," Stratos said.
"In a temporary way. Burying them under Mount Vesuvius was a clever idea but they were able to find a way out. So unfortunately they've returned and are ready to attack. But this time their stronger," The Star said.
Stratos was shocked by that statement.
"How so?" He asked.
"They have the power of a Spectral on their side," The Star said.
'A Spectral? Which Spectral would give their power to the very monsters the Guardians were created to fight?' Stratos thought to himself.
"Which one?" He asked out loud.
"The first Spectral in recorded universal history: The Cosmic Nothingness, Spectral of Nihilism," The Star said.
Stratos reasoned that it made sense. The Cosmic Nothingness believed everything was meaningless, hence the Spectral of Nihilism, but to give Their powers to monsters out to destroy the universe despite the Spectral Guardians, representatives of the Spectrals, being chosen by the Spectrals to fight these monsters. The Cosmic Nothingness being the only exception because of Their belief that everything is meaningless. Why would They choose a Guardian when they believed that everything is meaningless?
"Did They give a reason?" Stratos asked.
The Star shook his head.
"The only thing we have to go on is the concept They're the Spectral of: Nihilism," The Star said.
Stratos sighed. He never thought he'd have to step back onto the battlefield of the universe. But he was the chosen Guardian of the Spectral of Rebirth. So it was a given that everything had a chance of happening again. Including him and his team's fight to protect the universe. Stratos looked at his wrist. On it was a bracelet with a violet string tied around a gold token with the Greek letter Alpha on it. Everyone on his team had one with a string representing the main color of their outfits when they transformed.
"Guess I'll have to reform the team," Stratos said.
"That would be the most beneficial course of action," The Star said.
'Oloron of Rebirth, Eden of Exchange, Shin of the Hunt, Thanatos of Death, and Esteros of Creativity. The five Spectrals that blessed him and the other members of my team. The Genesis Team. The first team of Spectral Guardians on Earth. After going our separate ways over 200 years ago I never thought i'd see them again. But I guess I will' Stratos thought.
Stratos looked back at the Star.
"Do you know where they are?" He asked.
The Star nodded.
"I'll lead you to them. Who would you like to find first?" The Star said.
"The Chosen Guardian of Eden. The Spectral of Exchange. Matt," Stratos said.
