[CLOSED] Ghostlamps [CLOSED]

A rather elusive species.

These shy creatures are often found in misty/foggy or swampy areas in the wild. They ARE tamable, but it takes some skill to even get close to one.

They are often mistaken to be ghosts, due to the luminescant fur on them emitting a ghostly light (that looks even more ghostly when in their natural habitat, mind you!), hence the name "ghostlamp."

Their ears are rather large (up to 10 inches to a foot long!) and pick up even the faintest sounds from miles away, which makes it hard to get close to them.

The frills on their legs can raise or lower depending on mood or if they feel threatened.  Their hooked tail also creates venom when threatened, and easily pierces through and hooks onto flesh, so be careful!

They carry a special lantern around on their tails. This lantern not only creates a lot of light, but it also holds their soul.  This lantern must NEVER break or be removed from the tail, or the creature may die. (Keep in mind they only produce light when living, too, so they aren't very useful dead...)

In the wild, they identify each other by their unique markings on their back.  Speaking of markings, normal markings (not on their back) can be anything: from spots, to stripes, to even stars!

Their eyes are rather small, making them either blind or colorblind (colorblind is more common so they can see the markings of others, though blind ghostlamps can mysteriously sense markings as well.  Some think it's because the markings produce a special pheramone that allows the blind to detect it, but others think it's just a mysterious force), which is also why a good sense of hearing is important.

How to tame a ghostlamp:

Ghostlamps can be tamed by humans and make excellent, useful pets.  To tame one, you must learn how to mimick their calls to get their attention.  After you have their attention, there's a special pattern you must make (similar to firefly blinking patterns) with a flashlight or lamp. Having food on hand is also useful.

Their call is a mixture of a howl and a roar, and is called a "rumble," due to the fact that males can make rumbles loud enough to shake nearby plants when they are defending their territory/family, fighting another male, or searching for a mate.  The louder the rumble, the healthier the ghostlamp is, and the more likely it'll find a mate.

Rumbles are surprisingly easy to mimick, though it takes a bit of practice.  Soon enough, however, you'll be able to rumble just like a ghostlamp!

This is a closed species. I'm really proud of it so please don't steal or make one without permission .-.
