Chapter Six
"Soooo...what exactly does a Council Member do? Do they...council stuff?"
Scott laughed, shaking his head as he organized some papers. Mitch sat down, waiting patiently for a response. He didn't want to distract Scott from his work.
"Well, we usually talk about issues that are happening in today's society," Scott began, handing Mitch a big book. The Special looked at it, a big smile on his face.
"Are there pictures in here?!"
"I'm afraid not," Scott replied, laughing when Mitch frowned at the book. "Like I said before, The Council will talk about issues in the city. Once a month, every Council Member in Northern California will meet to see if any cities are in desperate need of new laws and any other issues within neighboring cities. Once a year, all the Councils will meet in L.A since that is where the highest ranks are. We will establish or abolish any laws we want to and discuss issues we're facing. Our most recent one was with The Committee."
"Was The Committee only in California?"
"Technically, yes. Other states have rouge groups similar to The Committee, some of which are too strong to overthrow. If it becomes worse in a state, one Council member from each state that does have an overthrown rouge group will go to that state."
Mitch nodded, opening the book so he could read it. The words were long she unheard of, to him at least. He looked up, shaking his head as he closed it.
"I could barely read this, Scott. I could only read little kid books."
Scott frowned, sitting down next to his husband so he could help him read. His blue eyes scanned the pages and he too wondered how he could read that. He sighed, hugging Mitch close.
"I'm sorry, baby," Scott whispered to him sweetly, brushing the violet hair back. Mitch looked at the book once more, nodding sadly. "You could rad chapter books though like Nate the Great and Cam Jensen. You just have to try your hardest. You could do it, baby. You are my special Special."
Mitch blushed, looking at the book once more. His eyes went to the first sentence, taking a deep breath before he started.
"A Council Member is an...an...extra...ordinary...why would it be extra ordinary?"
"Extraordinary. It's means remarkable. Keep going, baby."
"Okay. A Council Member is an extraordinary position to...withhold?"
"Yep."
"The Member is expected to do numerous tasks and jobs in order to make their city....um..."
"Righteous."
"Righteous. While makin sure everyone is sofa and has little to no interactions with harm. Did I say that right?"
"What? Interactions?"
"Yes. Did I say it wrong?"
"You're okay, baby. Keep going."
"A Council Member is special because of what they could do. They should not feel ashamed of their unusual powers. They have a power most ranks cannot po-po-posses. Feelings of shame and doubt come from Council Members because they do not how know how to deal with their powers. They are special, no matter what. Scott?"
"Yes, love?"
Mitch looked up at him, tears gathering in his eyes as he closed the book. Scott was quick to wipe away the tears, worry in his eyes.
"What's the matter, baby? Are you okay?"
"Of course I am," Mitch replied, hiccuping a bit. More tears fell down his cheeks, his smile brightening his features. "I juts realized something from reading that."
"What is it, baby? It is bad?"
"No, it's all good. I realized that it's okay to be different. I love being different now."
~~~
"He works at The Council now?! Tell him we say congratulations!"
"Of course! He is so happy. I haven't seen him smile this much in years."
"Same," Alyssa replied, looking at Tori with a smile on her face. The younger Beta has amazing news to tell her. "Oh, wow Scott. Before you know it, all the Grassi-Hoying children will be in The Council."
"Don't push it, Olusola. Well, I'll talk to you later. Tell Kevin I say hi."
"I will," Alyssa giggled, running her hands through her short hair. "We'll see you later, Scott. Bye."
"Bye."
Alyssa hung up, smiling as she walked over to Tori. Jordyn walked around a bit, smiling when Ariel gave her a stuffed animal. Erik ran in, almost tripping when he hugged his mom's legs.
"Hi, Mommy! I missdid you."
"It's I missed you," Alyssa corrected, smiling as she picked up her son. She looked at Tori, sitting down as she set Erik on her lap. "What news do you have to tell me?"
"I'm pregnant."
Alyssa screamed, an excited look on her face as Erik covered his ears. Ariel and Jordyn looked at the female Beta, wondering why she screamed so loudly. Tori laughed, nodding a tears gathered in her eyes.
"Why didn't you tell me this?! How far are you?!"
"Nine weeks."
"Aw, Tor! That's amazing," Alyssa commented, hugging her friend tightly. "Another Kaplan baby?"
"Yes, and as usual..."
"Avi wants the baby to be name Scömìche or Scömìchelle."
The friends giggled as they separated from each, smiling when their respected husbands sat down next to them. Ariel smiled, hopping onto her father's lap.
"Daddy!"
"Hey, Angel," Kevin responded, looking over at Tori. "So you have news to tell me?"
"Yep. I'm having another child."
Kevin dropped his jaw open, smiling as he high-fived Avi. The bearded man smiled back, hoping that his child will be okay that and nothing bad will happen.
"Have you picked out names yet?"
"Ye-"
"Scömìche or Scömìchelle."
"No, we're not naming our chiller after a ship," Tori scolded, shaking her head. Jordyn giggled, being picked up by Avi immediately. "If the baby is a girl, Haley Ann. If the baby is a boy...well, we don't have any names yet. We'll find out when the gender is revealed."
"That's good," Alyssa spoke up, looking over at Kevin. "Just because Tori and Avi are having another children doesn't mean we are."
"Okay, okay," Kevin replied, looking down when Ariel pulled on his sleeve. He smiled, brushing her curly hair back. "What's up, baby girl?"
"I want a baby sister."
"Me too," Erik exclaimed, a smile on his face. He looked up at Alyssa, his eyes begging. "Plllleeeeaaassssse?"
Alyssa and Kevin shared a look, their eyes wide as they blushed. Avi and Tori both tried their best not to laugh, waiting to hear what the couple had to say. Alyssa sighed, smiling down at Erik.
"Maybe someday, baby," Alyssa replied, kissing his forehead. Kevin nodded, liking that idea. "Not right now, but someday."
"Okay," Ariel spoke up, frowning a bit. She looked at her mom, titling her head a bit. "Mommy, I have quest ion."
"It's question. What is it?"
"When you become fat, does that mean you're having a baby?"
Tori began to laugh hysterically, tears gathering in her eyes as Avi laughed along with her. Jordyn didn't know what was going on so she just giggled, biting her fingers. Kevin looked at his wife, shrugging his shoulders as she sighed.
"Yes, baby."
Ariel smiled, clapping her hands. Alyssa smiled too, wanting another baby.
Right now.
"Do you think Jeremy is sad?"
Ben shrugged his shoulders, kissing Jessi's temple sweetly. For the past couple of months, Jeremy has been very closed off and didn't talk to the two Omegas like he used to. It was weird of him to do this, even though he and Ben didn't have the greatest brother relationship in the world.
"I want to ask, but he doesn't like being asked questions like that," Ben replied, frowning a bit as he looked at his older brother's room. "Any news from your parents?"
Jessi sighed, knowing that Ben wanted to change the subject. He always did this because he knew that a lot of people didn't like it when people talked about them behind their backs. Even if it wasn't rude, he didn't like to talk about them unless they were there because he was taught to not to talk behind people's backs.
No matter what.
"They still want me to go home," they replied, shaking their head. Ben nodded, an absent look on his face. "Ben?"
"Uh?"
"Are you okay?"
Ben shrugged his shoulders, tears gathering in his eyes as he thought about Jessi leaving him. He wouldn't admit to anyone, but he was very sad when he entered the Pack. His family had a long history of depression, but he knew that he didn't have it.
He was lucky to have tests taken to see if he any mental illness. He was diagnosed with Bipolar Depression at age twelve, scaring him to no end. He was able to handle it greatly and rarely had an episode. Jeremy, however, was the complete opposite.
He had Bipolar Disorder and didn't take the medicine he was supposed to take. He snapped endlessly at Ben and often times showed his anger through physicality. He doesn't use his anger through fists or kicks anymore, but he does through words.
He will verbally abuse Ben. The Omega would never admit it because he doesn't want Jeremy to face repercussions for it. He knows that Jeremy can't control it and that he must how his anger somehow. Ben could never get mad at Jeremy showcasing his anger.
"Ben? Ben? BEN!"
Ben widened his eyes, looking at Jessi. They had worry in their eyes, looking at Ben as their eyes looked him up and down.
"What's wrong? You blanked out for the five minutes. Is everything okay?"
No.
"Yes," Ben lied, smiling nervously as he went to Jeremy's door. "Let's see if he is awake."
He knocked on his older brother's door, smiling when he answered right away. Jeremy nodded, his eyes void of emotion.
"What's up?"
"Are you sleepy?" Ben asked, smiling a bit as Jessi stood behind him. "You've been in your room for a long time."
"Technically, it's a guest room. Avi and Tori gave it to us."
Jeremy smiled at their logic, his smile turning back to a frown. Ben frowned too, wondering why his brother was so sad.
"Jeremy, what's the ma-"
"Nothing. Shut up and let me have time to myself. Leave me alone."
He slammed his door shut, naming Ben jump. Jessi frowned, running a hand up and down their Mate's back.
"Ben, you shouldn't let him talk to you like that."
"I know, but he has something that I can't say he has. It's very weird."
Jessi nodded, looking at Jeremy's room. Ben sighed, preferring his brother's anger over his sadness. He didn't like it when his brother was sad.
"You could tell me, Ben. I'm trustworthy."
"I know, I know."
I love you, Jeremy. I hope that you never forget.
