Topic 1: ENGLISH LANGUAGE.

1. Do you study English? // Do you like learning English?

• Yes, I do // Yes, of course.

2. Why do you study/learn English?

• In my opinion, we have to study English because English is the most popular language all over the world and there are many people talk to English.

• Because English is the most important language in the world, there are many people understand and use English everywhere in the world.

3. Do you think English is an important language in Viet Nam? Why (not)?

• Yes, I think so. Nowadays, Viet Nam was held in World Trade (WTO), we must have knowledge of foreign languages especially English to integrate with the world. Because English is the most important language in the world, there are many people understand and use English everywhere in the world.

• English is one of the most important subjects in school and in university. Almost everyone knows that we should learn English well. Practice makes perfect. When we learn English, we should read more, speak more, listen to English from time to time and practise writing every day. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Only in this way can we learn English well.

4. How long have you been learning English?

• About ten year // I have been learning English since 1999.

5. Tell some problems you have in learning English?

• My biggest difficulties with English are Speaking, Listening and Pronunciation vocabulary. Grammar is difficult, too.

• Yes I think that I can. I always study English everyday. // No I can't or I am not sure.

• I always make use of all the opportunities to learn English, especially speaking. All my friends can speak English fast and fluently, so I must practice at home by myself. I practice speaking English almost all the time when I'm alone, especially listening to the radio in English, listening to music in English.

• Remember English is the key to success in life. If we study English well, we will find a job quickly and easily. If I know English, I can travel everywhere in the world. I would have a lot of opportunity to share and learn new cultures. I think when we learn English well, we can go to abroad, read book or newspaper English, listen music English.

• I can study abroad, travel abroad. I widen my knowledge by reading English newspapers, magazine and book. If I study English well, I use computer easily, find a good job and work for foreign companies.

• We can't speak English fluently. So we need to practise English everyday and don't be afraid of making mistakes. I often speak English to my English teacher or my friend everyday.

• Yes, I have. When I was a student. Sometimes, I spoke English with the tourist.

• For me, we should study Chinese or Franch. Because that is language popular everywhere in the world.

• Because there are hundreds of books are written in English... English is a language wich is used in science, technolog communication, international conferences, an so on. . Knowledge English help everyone in life such as: use computer, read news, hear radio ect....And the people study English to find a good job, to work for foreign companies, to business with foreign, travel abroad, study abroad etc...

13. If you want to speak English well, what must you do?

• Learning English requires action, if you want to learn to speak English well, you must change your habit, such as: read a book in English for an hour every day, analyzing the grammar in sentences and looking up words in an English dictionary. And listen to speaker's pronunciation English. Spend your free time practicing the pronunciation of the English. Carefully write an e-mail message in English, using a dictionary or a Web. Think about an English sentence you've read, ect...

• I do not know. Because I do not visit all the university in Viet Nam.

• I like manager company. I wish I was a business manager at a large company. Because in the future, this management is much salary and opportunities in promotion work.

• Usually, I use computer everyday. I often use computer at least one time in the day.

• Hmm! well at weekends, at least nine hours. However on weekdays probably I spend average about three hours a day. Sometimes more, usually less, I also used to spend about twice that on the day. I am used to playing a game, chat, read news, send and receive, etc...

 In my opinion, there are unlimited advantages of using computers. Some of them are given below: Quick entry compared to filing system; Excellent record keeping with minimal mistakes; Easy to restructure and easy data gathering; Storage is inexpensive compared to actual storage area; Easily distribute your own works and get help from others in no time.

Then I shall marry and I wish my family has healthy and happy. Moreover I wish I have a small house in Long Xuyen city. Because I can't keep on house renting forever..

• The tourism of my country is developing. It'll be visited exciting many tourists in the future. It's invested a short time ago.

6. Tell some famous and beautiful places for tourists to visit in your country. Where?

• Da Lat city, Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh city, Ha Tien, Nha Trang, Ha Long Bay, Hue, Hoan Kiem lake, ect...

• Visit Hue, the city over 300 year old. It is a very cultural, religious and historic of city. Da Nang is a port city. Hoi An is an ancient town, pagodas, stone homes intact. Da Lat has many homes built from wood. Ha Long Bay is a must visit. The mountains are limestone. The boats you take are wooden boats, you will not forget them. Hanoi is a big capital, there is Ho Chi Minh Mauseloum. Saigon is even a bigger city, i think you can find alot of info about these cities. Nha Trang, like many other Vietnam cities is a town. There are beaches, parks, fruits, and the ocean breeze that blows down in the evening. The ambience natural sensation here is one i'll never forget. I am not sure the extent of your holiday, for Vietnam is a great place to backpack if you have enough time. If you do choose to go there, I hope you and your family have a wonderful time.

• Yes, I do. For me, the tourism helps economics to grow, create much money and work for many people. The salary of the tourism is high.

Topic 8: HOLIDAY

1. What do you do in summer holiday?

• I was looking for some fun, unique things could do. Anyone have any suggestions on what we can do together. Preferably something that doesn't cost too much money (we are poor college students )

2. How long is your summer holiday?

• In Vietnam, The end of course is usually on June every year, this is the summer holiday. The student don't go to school about two months. This time, they relax for long time after one year's hard studing. They travel usually on summer holiday. I remember my last summer holiday in Da Lat city. It was interesting on summer holiday.

• The most important and widely celebrated holiday in Vietnam is Tet, this is a lunar holiday and is a celebration of welcoming the new year, new age, new crops, new hope... Besides, Vietnam's people can take a rest in some national days. Vietnam is a very colourful country when it comes to festivals, there are hundreds held in the towns and villages every year. All of festivals express an aspiration for a happy life and a prosperous society.

• Tet starts on the first day of the first lunar month and is the new year. New Year is the most widely celebrate holiday on earth. New Years is unique among holiday celebrations. It is the only holiday that is celebrated across culture in a great many countries around the world. New Years is celebrated around the world, although the date varies from country to country.

• Officially, Tet marks the beginning of a new year on the lunar calendar. It is the most important festival for Vietnamese people, it is a time when families gather together in their home and celebrate the New Year. Although officially a three-day affair, festivities may continue for a week or more. Tet was the lunar new year of the south Vietnamese. In that time, we are going to picnic, or camping with friends, or coming back countryside, or traveling anywhere, etc...

Topic 9: TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION

1. How is the traffic in your country?

• It's crazy! Three or four people on one motorbike is a common, particularly with the young. The traffic is worst during the rush hour when everyone is attempting to get to work or come back home quickly. Some people ride their motorbikes on the pavement rather than waiting in the a traffic jam. The people walking are just as likely to get hit on the pavement as they are crossing the roads at such times. Road users become very impatient, constantly using their horns when there's obviously nowhere to go, even shouting at others to get out of the way. You have to be quite aggressive or you get nowhere.

• Limited awareness of road safety and knowledge of traffic rules in Viet Nam. Limited knowledge about safe driving behaviour. Many peoples do not understand traffic accidents that unsafe traffic environment and poor road infrastructure. For example, traffic warning signs are rare and no safe areas for pedestrians. Poor enforcement of traffic rules.

2. Tell some means of transportation in your country.

• Bus, lorry, car bike, train, motorbike, taxi, cart, sailing ship, raft, submarine, yacht, plane, helicopter, globe, boat, streetcar, ect...

• Transportation in Vietnam: Not known for modern conveniences, Vietnam has an inconvenient transportation system. This in itself has been an obstacle for the Vietnamese to overcome while advancing economically. The main mode of transportation is that of the bicycle rickshaw, bicycles are also popular and are used for transport to and from work for most Vietnamese. Although improvements have been attempted, particularly with the major roadways, the main source of transportation for goods is by barge, utilizing the many rivers and canals.

3. How are the roads in your city?

• Major cause of traffic accidents in Vietnam is the poor traffic infrastructure. Highways in Vietnam have not caught up with the speed of increasing of transportations. Almost all Vietnamese roads are too narrow that have not enough safe space for road users. Also the traffic signs are not built carefully.

4. How do people drive in your city?

• They always drive on the right.

5. What do we do to reduce traffic accidents?

• In my opinion, instead of waiting for the government to invest in road network, each person should think about how to protect themselves first. If each road user has a good consciousness in implementation of traffic rules, the road accidents epidemic could be controlled.

• Solution to traffic problem in Vietnam is investment in traffic infrastructure. If the government invested more in traffic infrastructure, the chaos in roads would be reduced. For example, in the cities, we should have subway system. Also we should expand roads to give users more space. If the government and people work together on these solutions, including driving carefully, improving awareness, broadening the roads, investment in traffic infrastructure, this unfortunate problem will be diminished.

• It is difficult to solve the taffic problems.

• I drive very carefully.

8. Which mean do you take when you go far?

• After a long time hard working may be you will need somewhere to relax and get rid of stres. Tourist will help you do that, spending your time for traveling.

9. How many accidents happen in your country everyday?

• Traffic accidents in Vietnam have been increasing at the alarming growth rate! According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, traffic fatalities kill more than 30 people each day in Vietnam (so, nearly one thousand per month and estimated 12,000 dead each year).

Topic 10: CITY VS. COUNTRY

1. Where do you like to live? City or country?

• I like to live in the country. Because the country is quiet and comfortable, the air is less polluted than in the city. Moreover, I can go to fishing with my brother and climb mountain, or go to bath in the River.

• Life in the countryside is more peaceful and the life is also slower. Moreover, it is less stressful. There isn't any time pressure and the traffic conditions are better. A lot of places you may reach on foot. In the countryside, there are a lot of breath taking sceneries, space and other amazing places such as forests, lakes or mountains.

2. Is city life better than country life?

• Yes, I think so. // Yes, of course. I think that, both city and country may be a good place to live.

3. What are the advantages of living in the city?

• Firstly, the infrastructure in big city is much better than in the countryside, so the life there is more convenient. There are many highways and long, big bridges, which make transportation easier. With so may transport means such as taxi, car, bus, motor-bikes and bicycle... it is very easy for you to go anywhere at any time. Along busy streets are tall, beautiful buildings. They are hotels, restaurants, embassies, hospitals, schools, private village big schools, big hospitals equipped with modern facilities make the study and treating disease more effective. Living in big cities, children have good opportunities to learn in good schools and examine in good hospitals. In entertainment centre, there are many games to develop children' body including physical games and intellectual ones. Children can play there after hard periods in class. In big cities, telecommunications are also completed. Children can access with new technology easily. It's wonderful to live in big city.

• Living in such a big city has a lot of advantages. There is a big offer how to spend free time.

4. Old people like to live in the countryside. Why?

• In the countryside people enjoy lives and take pleasure in their daily activities.

• The countryside is comfortable and peaceful. The air is fress and pure, the weather is cool and warm. It's good for their health and they feel friendly with neighbours, nature.

5. Most young people like to live in the city. Why?

• Young people like to live in the city. They are always in hurry. At the city there are a lot of theatres, concerts and other ways of entertainment. There is always a lot to do and visit! There are a lot of possibilities of shopping. In various shopping centres and galleries they can buy whatever they want. What is more, there are a lot of working places in a city. Many big international companies have their locations in the cities, so it is much easier to find a job in a big city, ect... .

• I like to work at the city in the company

7. Many people have moved to big cities nowadays. Why ?

• Because there is always a lot to do and visit! There are a lot of possibilities of shopping. In various shopping centres and galleries you can buy whatever you want. What is more, there are a lot of working places in a city. Many big international companies have their locations in the cities, so it is much easier to find a job in a big city.

8. How is the air in the countryside?

• The air is cool climate and fresh, it's a great place for families to go on the weekend and for offices personnel to hold team discussions. Here people can relax, eat food like at home.

• The air is fresh and pure. It's less polluted than in the city. Esppecially, the weather is cool, easily change in countryside.

9. How are the people in the countryside?

• The living costs in the country are much lower, the variety of products in shops is smaller...

10. What are the advantages of living in the countryside?

• First that comes to mind is that the countryside is a breath of fresh air, literally and figuratively. Air is cleaner here than the city. Healthier living is another facet that the countryside can boast of. Aside from fresh air that leads to healthier lungs, living in the countryside gives you more access to organic farmer's market. Organic food are food items that are produced, processed and packaged without using chemicals which have more health benefits than conventional food. Being physically healthy often leads to good mental health. A study even showed that people residing in the countryside have slightly better mental health than people in the urban areas

• Another good reason that we ought not to forget is in the aspect of practicality. Crimes the countrysideare lesser than the city. The cost of living in the country side is considerably cheaper than the city.

Topic 11: USEFUL INVENTIONS FOR DAILY LIFE.

• Computer, Television, Mobile Phone, Medicine, Transistor, Laser, washing Machine, Car, Ipod, Laptop, ect...

• It's portable computer. Because I do a lot of useful things with it everyday. I phone my friends, my family or send information, documents to my teacher. I can use a portable computer anywhere and whenever I wanted...

• I also get access to internet with many helpful programs such as: world news, market prices, stock market, sports, films, music, ect...

3. How is our life with a lot of useful inventions now?

• Our life is comfortable, convenient and modern. Example, the internet is a very fast and convenient way for us to get information, work, communicate with our friends, buy products on the internet, ect...

4. Tell some disadvantages of those besides many useful advantages they bring us.

• We use computer too long. It cause same disease such as: eyes, heart, headache, shortsight, ect...

• We lose much time, many and manpower, we don't get any information. The children can be addicted games, No electricity, we can't turn on lights, television and others.

• I thinhk that is a portable computer. Because I can't study English on the internet, save documents, self study. I can send and receive information, documents to my teacher, ect...

• The inventions make our daily life more comfortable. They bring us many benefits.

Topic 12: HEALTH

1. What do you think about health?

• I think health is very important. It is the most precious.

2. Do you have good health?

• Yes, I do. // Yes, of course.

3. Health and money, which is more valuable?

• My mother always told me that we need to invest in good health before beauty. Most of people realize the value of health when they have lost it and now they lose their money to restore health. But unfortunately their money is not enough to get back the health. No one in this world can purchase his passed youth and health. We may earn huge sum of money and every thing of comfort may be available at our door. But, without health it is not possible to enjoy this wealth and health. More over no price can be set for healthy youth time.

• My opinion is health is more crucial. Without health money does you no good. It will benefit those you leave behind but not you. I wish for my children for example not to be rich but to be healthy and happy. Health coming first agian because who is going to be happy if they are unhealthy.

4. What must we do if we want to have good health?

• We should eat a lot of nutritious food. For example, we should eat much vegetables, fruits and nutritious food but low in fat, cholesterol, sugar,salt and unnatural chemicals everyday. Many scientists demonstrated that people should eat a lot of fish because fish is better than meat. We should also drink about two litres water everyday. And a un polluted environment with clear air and water is helpful for health. In addition, we should do exercise regularly. For example, we can join in a gym, swim, play soccer, and so on. Moreover we should care health ourselves such as take vitamins, check up health at least twice in a year, join health clubs. Besides, we should avoid bad things.
