Chapter 3
(A.N. sorry for not updating this for so long I got a bit distracted but enjoy)
Coach [POV]
"What happened?" Bokuto asked rushing over
"I'm not sure but go get the nurse" I instructed, Bokuto nodded running out the door quickly just as the rest of the team came over. I rolled him over onto his back examining Akaashi from head to toe. His breathing was faint and shallow blood dripping out of both ears onto the gym floor. I pressed my two first fingers to his neck feeling for a pulse. It was slower than normal but still there. He had passed out, but the question was why? Bokuto came back with the nurse, she knelt down in front of him. I let her take over realizing I had another task at hand, I had to calm the rest of the team. The nurse mumbled something into her phone as I stood up
"What happened to Akaashi?" Bokuto asked nervously shifting his weight from foot to foot
"He's just passed out the nurse will take care of it" I explained holding my hands palm out to him as if I was trying to calm a frightened animal
"But I saw blood" Bokuto insisted
"It's okay Bokuto I'm sure he just hit his head when he fell" I told him even though I knew I was also trying to convince myself though after what Akaashi had told me beforehand I couldn't believe the reassurances I told myself and the team.
"Let's all just go home now tomorrow practice will be normal" I explained, Bokuto nodded slowly and went back down to get changed into his clothes, the rest of the team followed his lead and soon the gym was empty. The nurse had called an ambulance and told me to call his parents. I went to the office picking up the phone on my desk searching through his file. It took me a bit to find a phone number but I finally did, I presumed it was one of his parents. I dialed the number and pressed the phone to my ear. It rung twice before someone picked up
"Hello?" A female voice asked
"Hi yes, are you Akaashi Keiji's guardian?" I asked
"Yes, I'm his mother, why did he get into trouble?"
"No I'm his volleyball coach actually and, well today at practice your son passed out" I explained slowly, she didn't say anything for a while
"Is Keiji alright?" she asked her voice full of concern
"I don't know all the details but the nurse has called for an ambulance" I explained
"I'll be there in ten minutes" she told me
"Alright" I nodded to myself as I gave her the rest of the details that I knew before she hung up the phone. I stood up straight and quickly hurried back to the gym
"How is he doing?" I asked jogging over
"Well his breathing is normal and so is his heartbeat but he still hasn't woken up so I don't understand why he would have passed out" the nurse scratched her chin
"His ear started bleeding when I talked to him so I told him to go wash it up and I'd let you know but when he stood up he passed out" I explained to her what I knew
"What were you talking about?" She asked standing back up
"He said he was having troubles hearing and we were talking about that" I explained furrowing my eyebrows
"That could be why his ears were bleeding" she theorized
"I told him it could be an infection"
"That is possible" She nodded, a few minutes later his mom showed up walking into the gym wearing a concerned expression
"What happened?" she asked quickly, I explained to her what I knew happened and what I didn't mention over the phone
"And you've called an ambulance?" she asked
"Yes, they should arrive any minute now" the nurse explained
"Ma'am if I may ask has Akaashi said anything about his hearing?" I raised one eyebrow, his mother didn't say anything for a while, she pursed her lips as she thought
"Not that I know of but his father is deaf and both his grandparents on his father's side are hard of hearing" she explained slowly "Why did he say something about it?"
"He told me that he was having a hard time hearing which I could tell just by watching him interact with the team" I responded, she frowned but didn't say anything else. In a few minutes the ambulance arrived and that's where the nurse and I were left in the dark. His mother got into the ambulance next to her son and they drove away. I slowly walked to my car and drove home my mind buzzing, I hoped that when she figured out what was going on his mother would call.
