* the day before summer holidays *

Dan smiles as he walks into school, his hand in Phil's.

"I can't believe it's our last day! It's gone so quickly," Phil says to Dan, "and I can't believe that this time last year I didn't even know you!"

Dan smiles and leans over, kissing Phil on the cheek, letting him know that he's glad that he find in fact meet Phil. He can't imagine his life without him.

Dan tries to communicate with Phil through actions, and ninety five percent of the time, he understands what Dan means. However there is that five percent when he totally misunderstands what Dan was saying.

"Dan, why did you just kiss Phil's cheek?" A voice asks from behind them.

Dan freezes and Phil spins quickly around, but then Dan feels Phil relax beside him and laugh. Dan turns around and sees Louise laughing.

"Not funny Louise," Phil scowls, trying to sound serious but he keeps giggling, and Phil isn't really the serious type to begin with anyway.

Dan rolls his eyes but smiles. He does love Phil but he's not ready for the entire school to know and judge. He's still quite emotionally fragile. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't relieved to see it was just Louise.

"Are you two lovebirds excited for an entire romantic summer which you can spend lying in each other's arms and gazing into your souls?" Louise asks dramatically, stepping in between them and putting her arms around both their shoulders.

"Louise..." Phil groans, "you're worse than my mum."

"I am your mother Phillip," Louise says seriously, staring intensely at Phil.

There's a moment of silence before they both just crack up laughing, and Dan stands with them, smiling, wondering how he got to be friends with the weirdest but kindest, funniest, most amazing people ever.

"So Dan, what do you have first?" Phil asks, turning to him and smiling at him.

Dan mouths 'math' with a light laugh and Phil laughs at himself, face palming and rolling his eyes.

"I'm such an idiot, we have that class together!" Phil says, "oh my god, I need the holidays now! My brain is melting and disintegrating as we speak, it needs a break from school. I-"

"Phil stop rambling," Louise interrupts, laughing and turning to Dan, "how are you going to live with that all summer Dan?"

Dan laughs, pulling his phone out of his pocket and texting Louise and Phil in a group conversation.

Dan: because I'll shut him up with my kisses ;)

Louise: awwwwwwwwww

Phil: ;P

Louise: #relationshipgoals

Phil: you know it. Dan is perfect x

Dan: no, that's you x

Louise: just make out already, the sexual tension is killing me.

Phil: we're at school idiot.

Dan: six hours of no kisses :'(

Phil: but then six weeks of kisses ;)

"Ugh, stop it," Louise complains, looking over at them, "your cuteness is getting over the top now!"

"Only because I love him," Phil says, glancing over and subtly nudging Dan, who looks back and grins widely at him.

Louise rolls her eyes. "You're both just like a freaking romance book or movie character."

Both Dan and Phil smile, a blush forming on Dan's cheeks while Phil smiles fondly at him. Louise nudges them both, smiling at her two friends.

"Look Phil, it's the last day so unless you want the whole school knowing about your relationship, stop looking like the heart eyes emoji every time you look at Dan for just another few hours," Louise says, laughing when Phil flushes deep red.

"Hey guys!" Caspar says, Joe beside him as they approach the group, "last day! Are we all excited?"

As his friends all launch into a animated conversation about what they're going to get up to this summer, Dan looks beside him at Phil, who's laughing at something Joe said. Dan smiles upon seeing Phil look so happy.

One day, that's all he has to last. One day, and then six whole weeks of Phil.

What could go wrong?

Well it turns out that a lot can go wrong, and it's only the first day.

"I can't believe you!" Phil says, rolling his eyes at the brown haired boy, "what the hell is wrong with you?"

Dan can merely shrug in return. He didn't mean to, it was an accident. He was just bad at a lot of things, and always managed to mess things up.

"How the hell did you manage to burn microwave popcorn?" Phil asks, looking down at the bowl filled with the blackened food in Dan's hands, "you're such a dork."

Dan looks at Phil, pulling a face which resembled a puppy dog. Phil laughs and ruffles his hair, putting an arm around Dan and kissing his cheek.

"But you're my dork."

So much had gone wrong, all they'd wanted to do was watch a movie, but the DVD player wasn't working, the laptop charger is missing, Quinn and Henry are loudly playing video games and now Dan has burnt the popcorn.

"Eh, forget it," Phil says, taking the bowl out of Dan's hands and placing it on the kitchen bench, "how about we just go up to my room and cuddle?"

Dan nods, smiling widely at that idea. Phil takes his hand and Dan follows him upstairs, pushing past Phil into his room to jump onto his blue and green checked duvet, lying out on the bed resembling a starfish.

"Dan you bed hog, move over!" Phil whines, trying to move the taller boy's leg and failing, "if you move over, I'll kiss you..."

Dan still doesn't move, instead, he pretends to be asleep. Phil tries poking his face, and although he doesn't open his eyes, Phil can see a smile playing at Dan's lips.

"I'll tickle you..." Phil warns, his hands stretching out towards Dan's sides but his eyes open and he quickly rolls over to give Phil room.

"Ah, not one for tickling are you Danny?" Phil teases, stretching out on the bed beside Dan and raising his eyebrows at him.

Dan shakes his head in response, but can't help smiling at Phil. He's so cute at the moment, with his black fringe all ruffled, his blue eyes shining behind his glasses and one of his cute printed t shirts on.

Phil shuffles closer to Dan, gently moving his face so he looking directly at Phil. His gaze shifts between Phil's eyes and lips, unsure whether he wants to just stare into Phil's wonderful eyes or smash their lips together.

Phil makes Dan's choice for him when he grabs the back of Dan's head and pulls their lips together. They fall back on the bed, Phil balanced on top of Dan's body as they just kiss, their arms looped around each other.

Dan is happy, here wth Phil. He's in love, and the feeling is bliss.

Pure, utter bliss.

"Connor! Hey!" Phil says happily when he sees him standing in the doorway.

Connor is staying for two weeks, he's sharing Dan's room. Connor grind back, a grey beanie balanced on his brown hair. He's dressed in his usual tumblr inspired wardrobe - black jeans and a grey, oversized sweater.

"Dan's upstairs with his friend," Phil says, helping Connor with a suitcase, "c'mon, lets surprise him."

"Yes!" Connor says excitedly, "I love surprises."

They walk upstairs, both dragging Connor's suitcase, and leave it next to Dan's door. Phil opens the door, seeing Dan and Troye sitting on Dan's bed, texting.

"Hey Dan, Troye," Phil says, stepping into the room.

"Dan! Your best friend is here!" Connor yells, running into the room and dove tackling on Dan, knocking him onto the mattress.

Dan grins when he sees Connor, throwing his arms around his best friend (apart from Phil, of course) and when they pull back, Connor finally notices Troye, who's watching him with a smile.

"Oh, uh, hi," Connor stammers, looking at Troye, a pink tinge on his cheeks.

"Hey, I'm Troye," Troye introduces himself with a smile, "what's your name?"

"Hi Connor I'm Troye," Connor blurts, flustered and looks horrified when he realises his mistake, "I mean, I'm Connor and you're Troye."

Troye laughs, and Dan grins to see Connor so flustered around someone else.

"I love your music," Connor says.

"Thanks," Troye grins, "I have a new album coming out soon."

"I can't wait," Connor says, "but wait... How do you know Dan?"

"We were friends when we were younger," Troye says, "but we drifted apart. I felt bad, but I found Dan again."

Phil has joined them on Dan's bed, sitting beside Dan and slipping his hand into Dan's. Dan smiles sideways at him, and Connor notices, grinning and squealing.

"Wait! Dan you didn't tell me you dork? I can't believe you!" Connor accuses.

Dan grimaces and smiles sheepishly at Connor. He pulls out his phone and quickly texts an apology.

Dan: sorry! I was gonna tell you when you came up.

Connor: well I suppose that's okay.

Dan: I see you're a bit flustered around Troye ;)

Connor: no I'm not!

Dan: CONNOR AND TROYE

Connor: so he's cute and has the voice of an angel, shut up.

Troye: aw thanks Connor ;D you're pretty cute too.

Dan laughs, looking over to Connor, who's cheeks have turned a dark shade of pink. He looks so embarrassed, but Troye only laughs, nudging him with his elbow cheekily.

"It's okay, I'm just irresistible!" Troye jokes, striking a pose.

"No, I think Dan is irresistible," Phil says, smiling across at Dan.

"So what are you two? Boyfriends, soulmates, dating, fuck buddies?" Connor asks teasingly, winking at the pair causing Dan to blush.

"Hmmm," Troye says, stroking his chin and the two stare at Dan and Phil, pretending to be deep in thought, "definitely fuck buddies."

"Shut up," Phil says, standing, "I need to talk to Dan outside for a second."

Phil pulls Dan outside, shutting the door and facing him. Phil looks nervous, but swallows the lump in his throat and speaks to Dan.

"Dan, I know we're dating, and it's only been a while, but I really like you," Phil says, "so I'm wondering..."

Dan stays still, waiting for Phil to continue.

"Um... Will you be my boyfriend?"

Dan smiles widely, nodding his head so much he starts to become dizzy. He only stops when Phil pulls him forward and kisses him, and Dan feels himself light up inside. Dan can basically see himself and Phil, lit up in a ball of fire and light.

Before Phil, his world was dark, cold and sad. But now, it's ablaze.

I love you, Dan says, but the words can't make it out of his lips. Dan will never be able to tell Phil those three words, but he hopes that with his actions, that Phil will know it.
