Gemma and Tom had decide to arrive at the office before sunrise to get started and do some more last minute tests before their big presentation. When Gemma had retuned from Palmera City four months ago she and Tom had put all of their focus on the project. Now that it had completed all the trails Gemma couldn't believe that they were done, it was going to be her first big project for Ivo Tech and she couldn't be more excited.

"You looked over the notes I sent you this morning right?" Gemma questioned as she and Tom finished all their preparations for the presentation they had this morning. She had added a couple of last minute notes and she really had no reason o worry about Tom as he was always on top of everything.

"We have nothing to worry about." Tom assured her knowing that she usually became very exiles before any of their big presentations or meetings. "They can't turn this down."

She wished that she had Tom's confidence, not that she didn't believe that what they were working on was extraordinary and would change medicine Gemma never doubted herself when it came to the science and medicine  that she worked on. Where her confidence lack was when having to have the board members her had very little faith that a twenty-two year old could take the place of Dr. Anthony Ivo.

The ringing from her office phone snapped Gemma out of her thoughts and she immediately pressed the speaker button to answer.

"Yes Brenda?" Gemma answered hoping that whatever it was that Brenda needed that it would be quick. She didn't need any distractions before the big presentation which was something that Brenda knew which made the interruption all the more surprising. Brenda knew not to interrupt Gemma when she was in the lab.

"Dr. Ivo Jaime Reyes is here to see you." Brenda informed unable to hide the surprise in her voice, a surprise that was felt by Gemma too.

The words cause every part of Gemma to freeze, she's even sure that her heart had stopped beating in her chest. She knew that it was impossible but that was the only way she could describe the feeling building up in her chest. Maybe cause those were words that she thought she would never hear.

Jaime Reyes had been on her mind in some way for the last four months. She had stayed in contact with Milagros and Rudy, mostly due to the fact that they now worked in the Ivo Technologies Palmera City location. But they never spoke about Jaime and she had never really asked.

So Jaime Reyes hadn't been completely gone for her life. Gemma had to admit that two months ago she was sure that Jaime would try to contact her in some way. After a couple of weeks she had given up on the idea that he would.

"Send him up." Gemma replied not sure what he could possibly want. It had to be something important if he had flown all the way to Metropolis instead of simply calling. That thought alone immediately caused her to worry.

"Let's test it one more time before the meeting?" Tom suggested undoubtedly noticing the way that Gemma had suddenly become unfocused.

"Let's do it." Gemma agreed as the begun their test, not that they even really needed it. Every test that they had done for the last couple of weeks had been a success but Tom was a perfectionist in the same way that Gemma was. It was one of the reasons why they made such great partners.

Suddenly Tom hugged her and Gemma couldn't help but feel a little surprised. They spent most of their days together and yet they had never hugged before, but Gemma couldn't blame him for being excited. They could change so many lives with the technology that they had invented together.

"Dr. Ivo." Brenda said causing Gemma and Tom to pull away from the hug.

Gemma turned to see Jaime and Brenda standing at the doorway. She hadn't seen him in so long which had to be the reason why she smiled when she saw him. "Jaime."

"Jaime I've heard a lot about you." Tom greeted with a smile as Jaime stepped farther into the lab as Brenda stepped out.

"Really?" Jaime said as he extended his hand for Tom to shake. "Cause Gemma never once mentioned you."

"Well, she only spent a couple of days with you in Palmera City. I spend every day with her."

"Tom I'll see you at the meeting?" Gemma said knowing that if it were up to Tom he wouldn't leave, he tended to very protective of her and although Gemma had told him everything that had happened in Palmera City she had a feeling that he didn't trust Jaime.

Tom didn't say anything as he simply nodded taking one of the prototypes before heading out of the lab. The reality was that she didn't have much time to talk to Jaime anyway, their presentation was in twenty minutes and she couldn't afford to be late. Not when it felt like all the board members were waiting for the moment that she did something wrong.

"Hi." Jaime said once they were finally alone.

"Hi." Gemma replied as Jaime looked around the lab, he seemed a little uncomfortable and not entirely himself. Not that she could blame him for feeling out of place with so much tech surrounding them. A lot of it was tech that was still in early trial stages.

It became very obvious that the two of them didn't know what to say to each other as an awkward silence settled over them. "What are you working on?"

Gemma couldn't help but be relieved that he broke the silence, because she didn't think that she would be able to. "I technically can't say."

Jaime looked away from the device on the counter and smiled. She couldn't blame him for being curious about it, especially when it was displayed in a case. "I'm pretty good at keeping secrets."

Gemma looked away as she smiled not really sure if it was a good idea to show him a project that was still classified. But she did trust him and knew that he wouldn't say anything. "Fine, but you better get yourself a good lawyer if you tell anyone."

"Wouldn't dream of going up against you."

"Tom and I have been working on this for about two years now." Gemma told him as she took the device out of the display case and setting it on the counter in front of them.

"So Tom is like...your partner?"

"Yeah we've been working on projects together for about four years but this is our first success." She continued as turned on the hologram that they were going to use for the presentation. "Patients would wear this device to help create xenobots with the use of stem cells. Instantly administrating a diagnosis and treatment devastating genetic, oncologic, and autoimmune diseases. It's been successful in curing 87% of all our trial patients."

Jaime looked away from the hologram that was showing how the cell manipulation worked. Usually people seemed surprised with what she had to offer, like they couldn't really believe that she could accomplish what she had. But Jaime didn't seem surprised, he only looked impressed. "That's amazing."

"It still hasn't been approved yet. But we're hoping by next year we'll be able to start implementing this technology into as many hospitals as possible."

"You're going to be helping so many people."

"I hope so." Gemma said knowing that no matter how many lives the tech she invented would save they would never be able to replace the ones that were lost because of her father. The singular thought about her father seemed to have shifted the energy in the room creating a silence of her own making. "What are you doing here Jaime?"

Jaime seemed surprised by the question as he looked at her curiously. "What I can't visit you?"

"Of course you can. I guess I'm just surprised."

He smiled softly nodding in agreement almost like he was surprised that he was here too. "I mean I should be upset that you left without saying goodbye."

Gemma didn't know what to say but she did know that now she felt guilty over it all. She had always thought that she had done the right thing and had no regrets about how she had left things in Palmera City. It seemed that apparently she was wrong.

"I... I wasn't even sure if you would want to see me. That's why it's taken me so long to visit." Jaime explained "I guess I was surprised that you're apparently talking to Rudy and Milagros all the time."

There was no denying that his words shocked her even though it was all true. She talked to Milagros and Rudy a couple of times a week, it was mostly work related though that wasn't always the case. Gemma genuinely enjoyed talking to them. "I didn't think that you wanted to talk."

"Of course I do." He replied and once again Gemma didn't know what to say. She found it a little hard to believe that he came all the way to Metropolis just to tell her that he resented the fact that she hadn't reached out to him in the last four months. Though she supposed that it did make her a bad friend.

"I'm sorry I'm going to be late for the meeting." Gemma said finally as she removed her lab coat and took her hair out of her ponytail. As much as she would like to stay and talk more she unfortunately just didn't have the time and she didn't know if he would want to wait until the meeting was over. It almost seemed unfair to ask. "I'll walk you to the elevator."

Jaime smiled as he looked at her, and he almost seemed offended by her words. "What you don't trust me to make it there myself?"

"Well considering your track record of touching thing you aren't supposed to, no I guess I don't trust you." Gemma replied as she picked up her presentation binder. "Come on."

Gemma walked a couple steps past Jaime when he suddenly grabbed her arm pulling her back. She didn't have much of a chance to react as he kissed her, causing Gemma to drop her binder in the process. It was a very brief kiss one that didn't even allow Gemma to process what had happened.

"Was that okay?" He asked realizing that he might have overstepped or that he should have asked, but he didn't move away from her. On elf his hands was still placed on the side of her face waiting for her response.

Truthfully Gemma was starting to believe that maybe she had lost her ability to speak. Instead Gemma nodded as she wrapped her arms around his next pulling him in for another kiss, because if Jaime Reyes was going to kiss her he was going to kiss her right.

Jaime reacted immediately as he wrapped his arms around her wait pulling her closer. As Jaime deepened the kiss Gemma realized that she had never been kiss like this before, or at least she had never felt this way before when she had been kissed in the past. Her heart was beating so quickly in her chest she was afraid that it would rip out of her chest or stop altogether. It felt like his hands were everywhere as they kissed, it wasn't until the alarm on her watch went off the Gemma was able to plant her feet back in reality.

The meeting was in five minutes and she couldn't believe she has completely lost track of time as she slowly pulled away from the kiss only for Jaime to lean forward and place another quick kiss on her lips.

"I really have to go." Gemma said as she bent down to pick up her binder still feeling a little dazed by what happened. She needed to regain her thought for the presentation which was hard to do considering that all her thoughts were currently being clouded by Jaime Reyes.

"Wait." Jaime said before she moved away. He reached down his eyes never leaving hers as he tucked her blouse into her skirt. Gemma didn't realize that she had been holding her breath as he did, but she there was also a sense of relief that he was saving her from making a fool of herself during the presentation. "There."

"Thanks."

"Is there any way you can squeeze me in fro lunch after your presentation?" He asked once again surprising her because even after the kiss she couldn't really believe that he would want to spend time with her.

"You want to go get lunch?" She repeated in disbelief but when he simply nodded in response she couldn't help but smile a little. "You can wait for me in my office you'd like?"

"Great." Jaime replied as he followed her out of the lab.

Brenda was sitting at her desk outside of the lab and she immediately stood up as they walked out. She looked between the two of them curiously as she waited for any instructions.

"Brenda can you show Jaime to my office and then sit in for the presentation?" Gemma asked as the three of them began to walk down the hall. She knew that Brenda liked sitting in on meeting to expand her knowledge on the marketing process and Gemma liked the fact that she was passionate about being more involved in the company.

"Of course." Brenda said as she motioned for Jaime to follow.

"Don't worry I won't touch anything." He assured her as he followed after Brenda to her office and Gemma could only hope that she wasn't smiling like and idiot as she entered the conference room.

The presentation went just as Gemma and Tom had expected and wanted. Tom had been right, their project was one that they really couldn't turn down even if they wanted to. Ivo Tech needed some good publicity and their device was going to change the face of medicine for the better. It was the reason why Ivo Tech was created in the first place before Anthony Ivo had lost his way.

"I hope you don't mind me saying this," Brenda said as they walked in step towards the elevator, Gemma could hear the uncertainty in her voice. Like she wasn't so sure that she should even be talking, but Gemma always encouraged her to speak her mind so as the elevator doors closed Gemma waited patiently for Brenda to continue. "but Jaime is a really good guy."

Gemma was surprised not only that Brenda would bring up Jaime considering that they hadn't had much of a relationship in the last couple of years but also the envois feeling she got remember that Jaime was waiting for her in her office.

"I know." Gemma replied as that was something that couldn't be argued and that she was well aware of. If Brenda's worry was that Gemma would hurt Jaime then that very much wasn't a possibility. If anything Gemma felt that it was Jaime that could so easily shatter whatever it was that was happening between the two of them. Or maybe it was just some irrational fear that came from the fact that everyone in her life had a way of leaving her one way or another.

Luckily Brenda had nothing else to add as she sat down at her desk just outside of Gemma's office to begin working. Gemma hesitated for a moment before opening the door to her office finding Jaime seating in the chair behind her desk facing out the large window displaying the entire city. He spun the chair around when he heard her enter and Gemma wondered just how long he had simply just been looking out the window.

"It's a great view of the city. I've never been to Metropolis before." Jaime said with a smile as he stood up, and Gemma couldn't deny that it was a great view of the city. The Ivo Tech building was just two block away from the Daily Planet and from Gemma's office it was possible to see the shining glob at the top of the building which had now become a staple of the city.

"Maybe if you look out the window long enough you'll get a glimpse of Superman."

The immediate excitement in Jaime's eyes almost made Gemma reject making the joke knowing that the excitement would be replaced with disappointment. "Really?"

"No." Gemma replied honestly knowing that although Superman did fly around the city on occasion he was too fast to see. He on occasion would be known to stop and interact with the children who were excited to see him but if he wasn't needed in Metropolis he was needed somewhere else in the world.

"How was the presentation?" Jaime questioned as she pressed a code into the safe to place her binder inside. Even though it was an approved project it was very much still confidential.

"It went great." Gemma said feeling like this had to be the best day in her life in a very long time. Maybe that was why she had started to ramble about everything that had happened in the meeting, she only stopped talking when Jaime suddenly reach forward placing his hands on both sides of her face pulling her into a kiss. It was a soft kiss that didn't very long but Gemma couldn't help but blush. "What was that for?"

"I just wanted to kiss you again." He said simply as if it was a totally normal thing for him to do. "So what's your recommendation for lunch?"

Gemma thought for a moment not entirely sure what he would like or what was appropriate for what she was assuming was a lunch date. Gemma typically skipped lunch, not eating until she was out of work. It was something that she was constantly scolded about from Javier and Brenda who didn't agree with the bad habit. "Well, there's a cafe across the street from Hero's Park?"

"Let's go then." Jaime said as he picked up her purse and coat that were hanging on the rack.

He helped her into the coast before taking her hand as they headed out of the office. Although Jaime was acting as if everything was entirely normal Gemma still felt like it was all a little good to be true. But even though there was an irrational worry in the back of her mind she just wanted to enjoy the moment as the two of the walked down the streets of Metropolis.

A/N: Hope you all enjoyed this chapter! Only one more chapter left until Part  Two which is going to have a lot of my favorite moments from this story. I really just wanted this to be a cute chapter about just Gemma and Jaime.
