14| The O.M.A.C.

Gemma would have said that her and Rudy were sitting in silence inside of the truck as they waited, but the truth was the music was playing loudly through the speakers. Cesar would occasionally sing, and although Gemma found it amusing she decided it was best not to laugh.

Laughing would probably make him angry.

"This is why I don't let anyone drive the Taco!" Cesar exclaimed as he continued to inspect the inside of his truck for anymore damages.

Gemma knew that although Jaime had been the one driving the truck who Cesar was really mad at was Jenny and Gemma. He had every right to be of course, they were the reason all of this was happening.

"I'm really impressed by your device Cesar." Gemma said honestly hoping that she could ease some of the tension.

"Of course you are I'm a genius." He replied confidently.

"If you're ever looking for a new job Ivo Tech has a couple of openings." She continued incredibly aware that Cesar could very well laugh in her face. He had made it incredibly clear that he hated large companies like Ivo Tech, Kord Industries and Wayne Enterprises.

But the truth was that Ivo Tech mainly consisted of doctors, technicians and developers that had all been hired by her father. Gemma wanted people that she had chosen and saw potential in. Even Thomas had been someone that was hired by her father, it didn't matter if he was her friend now.

"You can call me Rudy." He said dismissively, but Gemma couldn't help but smile. She was aware that she was a people pleaser, she naturally wanted people to like her and there was something satisfying in getting on Rudy's good side. "I'll think about it. This job it would pay well?"

"Very." Gemma replied simply.

Once again they became silent, though this time it wasn't as uncomfortable as before.

"Where are they?" Rudy questioned as he looked down at his watch. Although Gemma hadn't voiced her concerns she had also noticed that they were taking longer than they had anticipated. "El Chapulin can only block their signal for half an hour. They have five minutes."

"I'll go look for them." Gemma offered knowing that they didn't have much time left. Getting the key was meant to be easy, but if they had gotten caught  then it was all over. Victoria Kord was going to get everything she wanted and there was going to be no stopping her.

As she got out of the truck and walked towards the Kord Industries building Gemma could only hope that Jenny and Jaime were only running a little bit last. She didn't know what she was going to do if they ended up in a situation where they got caught. Though considering how quiet it was, Gemma could only assume that nothing had gone wrong.

Or it had been quiet before. The sound of metal hitting the pavement caused Gemma to freeze, it was like she was too scared to turn around afraid of what she would find. As if she were in some kind of horror movie and knowing that what was behind her wasn't good.

"Where is the Scarab?" A voice said causing Gemma to jump and finally turn around. Just like she had expected she almost felt her blood run cold. She remembered him from Victoria Kord's mansion. She remembered that his name was Carapax and he looked just as frightening now as he did then.

He seemed to be wearing armor across his chest, and Gemma could already see that he was ready for a fight. That he was sent on orders of doing anything possible to get the Scarab back.

"Jaime!" Gemma yelled as she took a couple of steps back before running in the opposite direction towards the Kord Industry building. They knew that there was a possibility of getting caught, but they hadn't expected this. They weren't prepared for this. "Jaime!"

"Gemma!" She heard him call out from somewhere in the courtyard and the truth was that she wasn't entirely sure is she wanted Jenny and Jaime to find her. Them finding her would only put them in danger, but Gemma didn't know what to do or think. This was all so out of her comfort zone.

As she took a sharp corner she felt herself run into someone's chest. For a moment she thought that she has been caught, but she felt relief rush through her when she realized who it really was. "Jaime."

He looked concerned, or course he did it probably seemed like she had lost her mind. "What happened?"

"Him." Gemma said as she looked back knowing that Carapax was right behind her. And it wasn't long before they could all see him as he came to a stop a couple of feet away.

"What is he doing here?" Jaime questioned clearly also remembering him from the other day.

"The Scarab, now!" He ordered again his voice echoing through the courtyard. Gemma couldn't help but wonder if he and Victoria Kord knew that the Scarab had attached itself to Jaime. They must have know that it had found a host considering that the blue alien that was flying around Palmera City was all over the news.

"Should we run?" Jaime questioned the panic beginning to set in his voice. Unfortunately for them it didn't seem that they would be able to outrun him judging from how fast he was running toward them. "He's not slowing down."

Jaime moved in front of Gemma and Jenny just as the man's fist came towards them.

To all of their surprise Jaime had caught the man's fist easily with one hand. One second he was still Jaime and then the next he was covered in the blue armor that came from the Scarab. It all seemed to be instinctual for him as a bright blue blast sent Carapax flying across the courtyard and into a statue of Ted Kord.

"Oh, my gosh."  Jenny gasped as she looked at Jaime with wide eyes. She still hadn't seen him in the armor from the Scarab. "How'd you do that?"

"I have no idea." Jaime admitted but it was clear that the Scarab had taken over as a defense mechanism to protect its host.

They all watched as Carapax got back up on his feet. He was still standing on the platform where the statue once stood, fury entirely consuming all of his features. Carapax reached to the back of his neck and for a moment Gemma couldn't help but feel confused until red metal armor emerged around him.

"Oh, he's pissed." Jaime said as they all watched in horror as the suit around him began to grow. But it wasn't so much the size of the suit that was horrifying it was the way that the tech came out of the implant in the back of his neck. It was clearly painful from the way the man screamed as the suit covered him fully.

Gemma had seen her father's initial plans for the O.M.A.C. and he had been working on improving them before he had found a better alternative in AMAZO. Even then her father must have acknowledged how monstrous it was, that it had been why he had scraped the idea altogether. Above all else her father was still a doctor, torture was never something he would resort to. It seemed that Victoria Kord cared little about that.

"What the hell is that thing?"

"The O.M.A.C." Jenny said slowly horror also shinning in her eyes. It was impossible not to feel horrified at what Victoria Kord had done to this man. He had to have gone through unbearable torture during the procedure, and regardless of everything Gemma couldn't help but feel sorry for him. Guilty even considering that it was her father who had formed the initial designs.

"Go." Jaime practically ordered them as blue wings emerged from his suit. He was getting ready for a fight, knowing that he was the only one that could do anything against Carapax. The problem was that Gemma was sure the Jaime had never been in a fight in his life, and Carapax clearly had military experience. It simply didn't seem like a fair fight. "Go! Go find Rudy!"

"Let's go." Jenny urged as she got a tight hold go Gemma's wrist. Something that Gemma couldn't help but feel grateful for. She didn't think she would be able to move. Both because she was still in shock and because she didn't like the idea of leaving Jaime to fight Carapax on his own.

They ran across the street where Rudy and the truck were parked, but with every step Gemma's worry only grew. She felt guilty leaving Jaime behind, even though there was nothing that she could do.

"Cesar!" Jenny yelled as she pulled the passenger door open. Gemma made her way into the back seat trying to catch her breath for a moment. She had never been very athletic, and this was definitely more running than what she was used to.

"What?" Rudy questioned as he looked between Jenny and Gemma. "What the heck, where's cabezon?"

His answer came in the form of a loud explosion somewhere by the Kord Industries courtyard, although they couldn't see the fight they could definitely hear it. In an instant Rudy was starting the truck and driving in the direction of the explosion.

They sped down the road past multiple cars who were slowly down at the sight of two armored figures that had been fighting in the middle of the road. For a moment Gemma felt relief seeming that Jaime had gained the upper hand against Carapax who was laying motionless on the ground as Jaime stood over him.

"Cabezon!" Rudy exclaimed and unfortunately it gained them unwanted attention as Carapx suddenly began to direct his weapons at them. The moment that the bullets came flying in their direction Rudy slammed on the breaks as the all ducked down trying their best to stay hidden from the path of any bullets.

This was the second time tonight that Jenny and Gemma were in the truck hiding from bullets. The sound of each gunshot causing her to flinch wondering at what point their luck would run out. There was no denying how terrified Gemma was, she couldn't even think properly.

"Holy shit!" Rudy yelled once the gunfire ended.

"Hey! You guys gotta get out of here!" Jaime yelled still a few feet away from them just as Carapax got a hold of him slamming him down on a nearby car. It seemed that all they had accomplished was distracting Jaime making him lose the advantage that he had only moments ago. Now every attack Carapax made against Jaime was brutal.

"What's with this guy?" Rudy said in disbelief.

Gemma felt her heart stop in her chest as they watched as Carapax placed his armored foot on Jaime's head. Although he had the suit proved by the Scarab there was no knowing how much damage that suit could protect him from.

"He's gonna kill him." Gemma found herself saying horrified by the realization that her words might be true. He was clearly not holding back on any of his attacks on Jaime, and although Jaime had the armory from the Scarab protecting him it seemed like he had given up on fighting back. Or maybe he was already seriously injured.

"No. He's not." He replied a new sense of determination in his voice as he practically slammed his foot on the gas. "Hold on."

"Cesar!" Jenny yelled as she attempted to get a hold of anything that would keep her steady. "What are you doing?"

"Okay, Kord girl. When I tell you, pull that handbrake and pull it hard." Rudy instructed as he continued to drive towards Carapax and Jaime at full speed with no intentions of slowing down or stopping. "You ready?"

Gemma felt as if her heart was about to burst in the worst sense possible hoping that whatever it was that Rudy had planned would work. "This is insane."

"Three, two, one. Now!" He yelled as Jenny pulled back on the handbrake at the same moment the Rudy quickly turned the steering wheel to the side.

Jenny and Gemma screamed as the truck violently came to a stop swing to the side causing El Chapulin to fly out of the back of the truck. It flew right into Carapax sending him into a large delivery truck a couple of feet back.

Not wasting any time the three of them got out of the truck and ran to Jaime who was still laying on the ground. It was difficult to see if he was unconscious or not considering that they couldn't see his face.

"Cabezon, let's get outta here!" Rudy urged as he shook Jaime, but from his lack of reaction it was clear to them that Jaime was unconscious.

Knowing that they didn't have much time and that Carapax could come after them at any moment the all instinctively reached for Jaime and together they got him into the back of the seat of the truck. The second that Rudy was back behind the wheel he was driving down the road at a speed that was incredibly illegal but they needed to put as much distance between them and Carapax as possible. It was a miracle that they were all even able to make it out of that situation alive.

A/N: There's only nine more chapters left of Part One of this story. That will pretty much encompass everything from the movie and then Part Two will be my own storyline. Anyway hope that you all have been enjoying this story. Gemma is definitely a different kind of character for me and I've definitely have been enjoying writing her. Still so much more to come.
