July 1st, 2006
The Grey sisters stumbled out of their childhood home in a rush, Meredith locking the door behind them while Rebecca already in the car, starting it rather quickly and allowing the motor to heat up in order to function correctly.
"Tell me you at least got his number!" Meredith called to her sister as she rushed down the front door steps, her tone almost pleading. It wasn't that Becca was a prude, she had had her share of boyfriends over the years, but none of them recent, not since their mother's diagnosis.
"Mer, I love you deeply." Becca started as her sister got in their car, watching as she put on her seatbelt, "But I'm not talking about my hookups or sex life with you."
A laugh tumbled off the eldest Grey's lips as the youngest pulled out of their driveway, the drive to their new workplace was nothing new, other than filled with memories, both good and bad of their childhood and being driven by their father to the Hospital that their mother worked at.
It was when they were stopped at a traffic light and Meredith moved to change the radio station that she caught the sight of two phones on the cup holder area, one she knew to be her sister's by the Winnie the Pooh Tigger Charm that was held onto her flip phone but the slide screen phone was obviously not Becca's.
"Did he forget his phone or did you steal it just to have an excuse to go back to the bar and look for him." Meredith questioned teasingly, moving her blue eyes to her sister, watching as a blush grew on her cheeks.
"He forgot his phone." Becca replied in a low tone, almost embarrassed, as the light turned green allowing her to return to her driving and giving her an opportunity to add. "He knows where I live, he doesn't need to go back to the bar."
Meredith began laughing like a madiac, as if she was watching one of her romance shows, as if she was reading her the protagonists of a romance novel fall in love.
"The sex was so good that he forgot his phone, what makes you think that he'll remember the address." Meredith teased her sister, pushing her sister's shoulder ever so slightly as to not disturb her driving and get them into an accident.
"Because even if he doesn't remember our address, our unopened mail was on the foyer of the house. A desperate man will do desperate things." Becca reminded as she turned onto the parking lot of the Hospital, swiftly parking the car.
It was weird for them to be at the hospital as grownups, without their mother or their father, sure they knew Richard Webber but there was no way in heaven or hell that they were going to talk to him that day, the parking lot was not that crowded with they considered a blessing as they were running behind time.
"Becca move your legs faster!" Meredith called back at her sister as they dashed through the parking lot, a scoff left the younger Grey's lips as she attempted to catch up with her older sister, who had taken off before Becca had even turned off the car. Becca clutched onto her purse as it kept slipping of her jacket with every large step she took, pushing the two phones into the different pockets of her jacket.
"I'm never going out with you again!" Rebecca warned her older sister, jumping over the sewer drain, annoyed that while she had plenty fun the previous night, she was late for her first day as an intern.
"Yes you will." Meredith countered, smiling as she side stepped a sign pole.
"I'm serious Mer, never again." the hazel eyed Grey huffed, her lungs burning from the lack of proper oxygen.
"I didn't hear you complain when you left with the dreamy guy from the bar." the blue eyed sister laughed. "Or this morning when I ordered you to kick him out, and he inviteded you for more fun. Seriously, on our furniture? Couldn't you make it to your room?"
Meredith didn't need to turn around to know that her sister was blushing once more. While Meredith might have been the wild one between the sisters, parties and travelling the world, Multiple boyfriends and exploring her sexuality thuroughly, Rebecca wasn't a saint, she had been a cheerleader, mainly because she was athletic enough to become one, and because she wanted to spend as much time away from home.
And it was because she'd been a cheerleader that unlike Meredith, Rebecca knew her drinking limits, and only on special occasions did she overstep them and it was always with her older sister.
They ran into the hospital, ignoring the homesick feeling that washed over them as they made their way over to the front desk to check in, "Meredith and Rebecca." Meredith started, giving the man at the desk a charming, yet breathless, smile.
"We're interns, can you tell us where we have to go?" Rebecca finished, shaking her head at her sister's quiet flirty, successful it would seem because the man kept his eyes on her for a moment longer before turning to the computer and typing away something.
"They are in the OR's, Webber's giving them a speech." the man replied, looking back up at the sisters, watching as Rebecca nodded at him while Meredith stared him down with a teasing smirk on her lips, "Do you need directions?" he asked, a small and feeble attempt at possibly getting Meredith's phone number.
"No need," Becca started, giving the man a small and almost fake smile, "We know the way." her words would have a normal person looking at her like she'd grown seven heads in the matter of a few seconds, which was indeed what happened, the man at the desk was confused at how the interns before him could know the way to the OR if they had never been there before.
The youngest of the sisters started to walk away from the front desk only to call for the eldest when she was about 5 feet away, Meredith caught up with her sister with a pout on her lips, which Becca ignored for the sake of getting her and her sister to the OR on time, something that the sisters were able to successfully do after sneaking past a few doctors and glaring at a few people.
They entered the O.R. just in the nick of time, the familiar and comforting voice of Richard Webber filling their ears as he announced "Each of you comes here hopeful. Wanting in on the game. A month ago you were in med school being taught by doctors. Today, you are the doctors. The seven years you spend here as a surgical resident will be the best and worst of your life. You will be pushed to the breaking point. Look around you. Say hello to your competition. Eight of you will switch to an easier specialty. Five of you will crack under the pressure. Two of you will be asked to leave. This is your starting line. This is your arena. How well you play? That's up to you."
