NOVA KNEW she would be in trouble when her and max finally got home, her father and susan would've definitely got home by now and billy would've definitely been forced to take the blame.

"so you're positive that was dart?" lucas asked for the millionth time as dustin huffed. "yes! he had the exact same yellow pattern on his butt."

nova raised a brow and shared a look with max.

"he was tiny two days ago." max spoke up, dustin shrugged, "well, he's molted three times already."

"you mean malted?" steve spoke, dustin frowned, shaking his head. "molted. shed his skin to make room for growth hornworms."

"when's he gonna molt again?" nova spoke up as dustin shrugged, "it's gotta be soon. when he does, he'll be fully grown. or close to it. and so will his friends."

"yeah, and he's gonna eat a lot more than just cats." steve almost scoffed as they all stopped.

"it ate a cat?" nova exclaimed in shock, eyes wide.

"dart ate a cat?" lucas asked in the same tone as dustin widened his eyes. "no, what?! no!"

"what are you talking about? he ate mews." steve said with a frown and nova widened her eyes.

"mews? what is a mews?" max asked, her nose scrunched up in confusion.

"it's dustins cat." steve shrugged as if it was obvious and not anything serious.

"steve!" dustin yelled accusingly.

lucas smacked dustins hat, "i knew it! you kept him!" he exclaimed.

"no!" dustin yelled, then realised he was literally lying. "...no. no, i...no..."

dustin sighed, "he missed me! he wanted to come home!" he defended as nova groaned in annoyance.

"bullshit!" lucas pointed his finger at dustin.

"i didn't know he was a demogorgon, okay?" dustin sighed. "oh, so now you admit it?" lucas argued.

"guys, shut up. who cares? we have to go." nova huffed, bored and tired of their arguments.

"i care! you put the party in jeopardy! you broke the rule of law!" lucas argued back as nova rolled her eyes.

"so did you!" dustin almost screamed as steve looked away with a bewildered sigh, not knowing what he did to end up with these kids. nova sat down on the floor, knowing it would probably take a while whilst max just stared.

"what?" lucas scoffed, "you told two strangers the truth!" he shone the torch in max and nova's eyes.

nova squinted at the bright light, "bitch."

"uh, stranger?" max scoffed. "you wanted to tell them, too!" lucas defended.

steve held his hands out and pulled nova up, brushing her jacket off and mumbling something about getting dirty from the mud as they listened to dustin and lucas.

"yeah but i didn't, lucas, okay! i didn't tell them! we both broke the rule of law, okay? we're even!" dustin yelled and suddenly a loud screech could be heard in the distance as it seemed only steve and nova noticed.

"no! not even! don't try that! your stupid pet could have ate us for dinner!" lucas screamed, "that was not my fault!" dustin yelled even louder.

nova noticed steve was trying to get their attention, and moved over to the boys, smacking the backs of their heads, "both of you shut up! listen to steven!" she yelled as they both jumped, turning to steve.

they all heard the screeches this time, and steve immediately moved towards it as nova followed, then lucas and dustin as max stayed back, yelling something about them being stupid for walking towards the sound.

they all walked up to the top of the hill, and looked over, "i don't see him." dustin spoke as lucas got out his binoculars.

"it's the lab...they were going back home." lucas told them.

THE GROUP all ran down as fast as they could towards the lab as they heard somebody yelling out to them. they were revealed to be nancy wheeler and jonathan byers.

"steve?!" they both exclaimed in shock.

"nancy?"
"jonathan?"

"what are you doing here?" nancy suddenly yelled as they ran over, lucas having to drag novas hand, due to the girl being too tired and lazy to move. "what are you doing here?"

"we're looking for mike and will." nancy told them, and dustin widened his eyes.

"they're not in there, are they..?" he asked worriedly.

"we're not sure." nancy suddenly looked worried, "why?" jonathan whispered.

the screech of the demogorgon could be heard as they all turned to the noise with wide eyes. "well...i guess this'll be the day that i die." nova whispered to herself bitterly.

they began to talk loudly over each other until nancy spoke up, "the powers back." she spoke before they all ran over to the gate, where the buttons were and jonathan tried pressing the buttons.

"let me try." dustin spoke, "hang on." jonathan spoke, dustin looked at him, annoyed, "let me try, jonathan!" he snapped.

he began to spam the open button as they all watched in defeat. "son of a bitch! you know what?" dustin practically whacked the button.

suddenly, it finally opened as dustin smiled in accomplishment. "hey! i got it!" he smiled.

"well done, dustin." nova smiled lightly at the boy.

they all looked at the gate curiously, not sure on what to do. "maybe...since the gates open if they are in there then they will come out?" nova suggested.

"agreed. let's wait here for a bit. if they don't come out...we go in." steve spoke wearily as they all hesitantly nodded.
