Caress and Corrupt
Day Two, Saturday May 6
I wake with the sunrise and after a bath and usual morning routine I go around the house making sure everything is as tidy as it was before my parents left. There's no sounds coming from the guest room so Joseph must be asleep.
I lie in bed in my long sleeve collar dress, I hear the morning birds chirp and smile thinking about yesterday. I had never talked to anyone for so long about so many things. I always felt my words were unheard, unimportant, incoherent. But not with Joseph, he wanted to listen to all I had to say.
Usually I would assume his confused state of mind left him with little option but to listen, but no. I could tell he was interested by the way he attentively looked into my eyes then glance at my lips, then my eyes again with a small smile.
He told me about London; a rough place to be for the working class. He thinks that's probably why he's in Spain now, still I would love to visit England, more so if he was my guide. I sigh.
I should't be making up ideas in my head, my parents will be home soon and they'll probably ring a doctor to check if Joseph is well enough to go on his way. If he isn't today it'll probably be couple more days before he remembers where he's supposed to be, he'll leave and that'll be the end of it.
Around 9AM I hear a car outside, I head to the living room.
"What's the occasion?" Says mother as she steps inside the house.
"What?" I ask.
"You look presentable" she jokes, I roll my eyes.
I hug dad "good morning father."
"Good morning, how are you today."
"I'm well."
He smiles, "good."
He looks up towards Joseph who is walking down the stairs scratching the back of his long curls, I whisper loud enough for my dad to hear, "he woke up yesterday."
Once on the bottom floor he smiles shyly, "good morning."
Dad walks toward him to shake his hand, "Good morning, I am Officer Valencia, this is my wife Miss Valencia, and my daughter whom I assume you've already met."
He nods, "Joseph Crawford, Sir. It is my pleasure, I don't know how to thank you enough for taking me under your wing."
"Don't worry about it, mister Crawford. I could never let one of my men down. How is your head?"
"Better."
Dad smiles and asks if we've eaten, I say no, mom replies "of course they haven't, she'll burn water."
"You can't burn water, it evaporates." I reply in annoyance, Joseph tries to hide his snicker by pressing his lips together.
Father asks my mom if she'll cook us breakfast, she nods and heads to the kitchen. My dad invites Joseph to sit, I do as well but he tells me to go help mom. I head to the kitchen frowning to myself.
After breakfast I have to do my daily reading, I feel irritated because I wasn't able to talk to Joseph. Dad kept talking about how he could help him with his automobile projects while staying in our home. My dad fixes cars as a hobby, he'll reconstruct old ones and then sell them but lately he's been too busy so I guess he thinks Joseph is the perfect runner boy; strong, well spoken and now military veteran. I bet Joseph felt intimidated, my father is an intimidating man.
I've been sitting in the parlor where we have the piano and my schooling books with Pride and Prejudice open on my lap but too distracted to pay attention to its words. Then through the glass door on my left I can see Joseph walking in the garden, he stops to pull from his pocket one of the cigarettes I gave him yesterday, he is so alluring. He turns my way as if he could feel I was observing, he smiles with the cig between his lips, I smile back coquettishly crossing my legs so that my dress slides to where my garters are. His eyes explore my legs then his cheeks become red and he turns away as if ashamed. I myself feel a bit ashamed, but then I don't, I want him to caress and corrupt me.
