Chapter Two
Once I arrived back at my dorm I found Zoe sitting on the edge of her bed.
"So," she began, "how was it?"
I sighed and hung up my hoverboard, "You don't actually want to know." I hid a smile and walked over to my bunk.
"Of course I do!"
"Well, he gave me his answer, he has. Maybe... Maybe we should try to get out of here."
"What are you talking about? They take good care of us here and last time we talked about this you were jo-"
"Zoe, I'm not joking this time. I'm serious."
She fell silent and pushed her sandy brown hair behind her ear. Her blue eyes sparkled. "Maybe we should, maybe we shouldn't. Kassie, we have no idea what's out there."
"There's only one way to find out, right?"
"Kass," she started but was abruptly cut off by a knock on the door. Zoe groaned and trudged over to the door and opened it. "Oh, hey Oscs!"
"Hey Z," Oscar said while leaning up against the doorframe. "Do you know where Kass is?"
"Come on in you oaf," she laughed.
"Mucca sacra," I muttered.
"Holy cow? Is that the best you can come up with?" Oscar laughed. "What are you going to do now tell me to shut up?"
"No, what do you want?"
He sighed, "Kass, we need to talk. Next week we find out if we were chosen. If we are we most likely won't see eachother again, unless we are all put on the same ship."
"Which is why we need to leave the day before."
Zoe and Oscar mirrored each other's expression.
"Kassie, I-I don't know what to say," Oscar stuttered.
Zoe nodded, "We can't d-"
"Can't leave? We can. We have five days to get everything packed up and twenty-four hours after that to leave. At least a month's worth of dry food. I can get that. Extra jackets, three extra boards, and anything else we may need."
Oscar nodded in agreement after a few minutes. "I can't afford to lose you guys," he whispered.
"That's what I was trying to say." I thought.
Oscar looked at me again. His eyes glistened. "I can get the jackets," he said. "I work in laundry tomorrow."
"I can get the extra boards. Long distance will work best. And they will be solar powered," Zoe sighed.
I laughed.
"Always going over the top."
"Shut up Oscs!"
"Its settled then. We leave June 22," I smiled.
