Rose's POV:
It was my first day back to school from winter break. The weather was mild cold, around 60 degrees according to what the weatherman said on the news. I wish the California where I live would snow, but it happens only on the areas that is very cold. I'm currently wearing a black hoodie with comfy grey sweats and a pair of white Converses, and let's just say: I don't look that bad at all today. I was a little sleepy, but after grabbing a coffee and a doughnut on the way to school, I think those two would help me throughout my day.

I entered through the front, taking last sips of my coffee. Many students were crowded into the hall, trying to prevent themselves from being too cold and waiting for the bell to ring. Everyone was chatting and laughing, like what they got for Christmas and what went down from the latest parties they attended and the big game from last week. I've known these people since my childhood, like some of them I know from elementary and another from middle school, and I blended in well with the crowd.

"Hey Roooooo!" I turned to see my best friend, Natalie, yelling across the hall. She's wearing sweats she bought from Victoria's Secret PINK, in which we planned our outfits ahead via FaceTime last night, and her long, brown hair was braided into a fishtail. "Hey Nat, what's the scope for today?" Natalie knows everyone's zodiac and sun signs. She really believed that the stars have the power to control everyone's lives, and she didn't do much without any consulting one of the books she carried for any research. Some girls in the school asked Natalie to do a chart for a crush they liked, and even though half of them didn't believe the readings at all, it was really fun, and it's even better than just randomly guessing what he might be like.

"Hmm, looking good for you, hun. Looks like a new man is coming into your life, but you will have to wait for a little while." Then two of our friends from fifth grade, Marco and Elisa, walked by. "Well, I guess I'll get rid of the old one first. Marco, you're done, as of this morning. Natalie has spoken from the stars." "I wish I have known I was your boo. I would've taken the advantage of it." "Uh huh, I bet you would've tried. See, that's why I never told you about this." Marco gasped, "My heart is now broken into pieces! I guess I'm gonna have to keep my baby Elisa here. You're the one!" He took a bow, then added some acting with respect. Then, Elisa complained, "Hey, you better watch it, Marco! Messing me around with those little games you play right in front of my face!" Marco laughed, "Aww, you know I'm just joking. You're still my little sweetie pie Elisa. I could just pick you up and fly you to the stars that Natalie mentioned all the time." He did so and lifted Elisa over his head, and Elisa squealed yet laughed, "Put me down, Marco!" Elisa likes to be the center of the attention, which everyone knew. Natalie and I laughed, and we got ready to head over to our lockers and started planning to meet up again at lunch. We're both high school seniors, but we only have a few classes together, like we only have English together with Ms. Barrios. Our school, Venice High, was big, with about 500 in each class, so students feel lucky to have lockers close together and one classroom to share.

"Hey Nat, I got something to tell you," I confided. "Yeah, what's up?" Natalie immediately became interested to this topic. "Umm, I've been having this dream..." "The same one you always get every night?" I nodded and admitted, "Yeah, almost." "Ooo, I love this! Dreams aren't really my go-to, but I totally got this.." I lightly chuckled, "I knew you would." Then Natalie declared, "Okay, what is this dream about? Could it be trains, which means you're gonna travel? Bridges, meaning you have a huge decision to make? Or bears, meaning, well, you're afraid of bears?" I shook my head and said quietly, "Hindi na (No), this one is super scary." "Spill." I started to speak, "Okay, in the dream, I'm drowning in deep water, like I'm almost dying. It's terrible, and I'm almost afraid to go back to sleep." "Anything else?" Natalie's brown eyes were very intent. "Yeah, the water was so cold, it's hot." "Okay, that does not make sense!" "Dreams aren't supposed to make sense really! I was choking and almost feel like I'm dead, but then there's this voice..." I started to feel lost at words, and it was getting even more difficult to tell my best friend everything. It was hard enough to experience myself, but saying those things aloud makes it more real and more frightening. "Whose voice? Is it mine?" I shook my head, "No, it's a male voice. A voice that I have never heard before. It's not my dad or any dude from the area."

Then Natalie started to feel intrigued, "Ooo, I like it! Did he save you?" "Hindi ko alam (I don't know). I always wake up just as I hear his voice. Is it true that if your dream you die, then you wake up dead?" I quietly asked. "You mean that you will really die? I've heard that before, but nobody who would ever die got to come back and tell me this! Tell me more!" I sighed, "I wish I could, but that's all I can remember; however, I'm not getting any good sleep and I'm starting to feel scared." Natalie then tried to help me out, "Well, didn't your horoscope say a new man was coming into your life? Maybe you're hearing his voice." I admitted, "I don't know, but something's got to give in soon. I don't like the sound of this."

Just when the bell rang for first period, we heard somebody yelled, "Fight! Fight! Two dudes are going at it!" Then, dozen of kids rushed to the entrance to see the commotion. I sighed and looked at Natalie. We gave each other a bored shrug, and we declared at the same time, "Boys." I didn't take a glance at the crowd that surrounded a kid with black hair, styled with a quiff, and a new guy that nobody had seen before.
