50| My Soulmate

I strode out of my office building to see Finlay standing outside leaning against his car waiting for me. When he saw me walking towards him, he stood straight and looked at me with his concerned gaze.

"How did it go?"

"I got it," I mumbled, and my lips stretched into a huge grin. "I got the promotion!"

"Aye!" He pulled me into a hug and spun us. "I knew you could do it!"

It's been months since the night Finlay came to my apartment and remembered me. At first, he wasn't sure since he thought they were dreams, but soon he realized it. I took him to all the places we'd been trying to trigger his memories, and from time to time; he remembered everything.

We also have been dating since. I confessed to him that night because I couldn't hold it in me any longer. He told me he was already in love with me and... Well, we didn't waste any second after that and made things official.

Finlay also remembered that I was doing his investigation for the story, so he told me to write it. I knew people won't believe me if I wrote about his soul in it, so I changed it a little and after working on it for weeks, I submitted the story to my uncle last week.

And today they announced the results.

Everyone loved it and my uncle knew I was born for it, so he promoted me to an investigative journalist.

I got my dream job in my dream city and my dream guy.

Aren't I lucky?

"It's me who we're talking about." I flipped my hair when he put me down.

"Says the girl who's been freaking out since last week," Finlay smirked, flicking my nose.

"It was curiosity." I scrunched my nose at him.

"Come here, my curious Katz." He chuckled and pulled me towards him.

Sighing, I closed my eyes and pressed my cheek to his chest. It still felt surreal to touch him and call him mine.

"Let's go." He kissed the side of my head as he unwrap his hands.

"Where?" I groaned, not wanting to leave his warm embrace.

"We need to celebrate it." He grinned and opened his car door for me. I thanked him and got inside. He circled the car and sat in the driver's seat.

"Where are we going?" I asked as he ignited the car.

"You'll see." He gave me a lopsided grin.

"You know I don't like being kept in the dark," I grumbled, sinking in my seat.

"You won't be there long." He chuckled.

Finlay and I have gone on a lot of dates. Movies, picnics, elite restaurants, and stay-in dinners. Every time he picks something different, leaving me curious.

I side glanced at him and watched as he drove his car with focus. Finlay told me he used to drive carelessly, but since the accident, he had gotten cautious of it. In the beginning, he was stiff, but now he seemed relaxed.

My eyes wandered from his hair locks falling over his forehead to his eyes, then gliding down his nose and cheeks and ending on his soft lips.

"Don't Amber." He grumbled, and I blinked my eyes innocently at him.

"I didn't even do anything."

"You know what I'm talking about." He eyed me and I bit my lip, trying to hide my grin.

I do.

"I don't. Care to explain?"

"Don't look at me like that. It's distracting."

"Like what?" I dropped my head to my side.

"Like you want to jump on me right now." He grumbled, shifting in his seat. "You know I can't do anything about it while driving."

"Don't worry... I'll wait till we get home." I burst out laughing when he cursed.

"You're going to be the death of me." He grumbled.

Finlay was the missing piece in my puzzle I wasn't even looking for. But he burst in and settle himself completing me.

I looked around when the car came to a halt and frowned when I saw we were at his apartment.

"I thought we were celebrating?"

"We are." He gave me a sly grin and got out of the car.

I followed him and knew what was about to happen. All the dirty images of me, him, and his bed flashes across my brain as we entered his apartment.

"Now that we're home..." He slammed the door and stood in front of me. I pressed my back on the door when he put his hands on either side of me. "What were you saying?"

"Uh... I..." All the snark remarks flew out of my brain when he leaned into my ear.

"What happened, Phoenix?" A shiver went down my spine when I felt his breath on my neck. "Cat caught your tongue?"

"No." That was all I uttered.

My eyes fluttered close when his lips caressed my neck. I pressed my lips tightly to stop myself from moaning when he kissed the sweet spot above my collarbone.

"I'm still waiting for a sassy remark." He mumbled as he trailed his lips up my jaw and stopped at the corner of my mouth.

"F**k you." I groaned, and he let out a deep chuckle, sending goosebumps down to my toes.

"I love you too."

I opened my eyes and my heart melted when they met his deep ocean ones filled with love. I was about to kiss the hell out of him but halted when my phone blared in my pocket.

"This better be important," I grunted as I picked it out. Finlay just laugh and walked into the kitchen.

"Wrong timing, Kayla," I growled, putting it on speaker.

"Sorry! Didn't mean to co*k-block, but girl, you got the promotion!" She squealed.

"I know!" My anger evaporated as I sat on the stool and watched Finlay pour Cockburn's whiskey into two glasses.

"It's time for celebration! Tonight Soul Groove, you, me, Finlay, and Michael."

"Not that place again." I groaned while Finlay screamed.

"Done!"

"Yes! I'll let Michael know. See you love birds tonight! Mwah!" She hang up and I glared at Finlay.

"What?" He gave me a shrug. "You love that place."

"I don't." I rolled my eyes. "You do."

"You only hate it because it's sketchy." He grinned, passing me the glass. "But it's our place."

Finlay loves it because that's the first time we met and whenever Kayla invites us there, he jumps right on it. Even though I pointed out so many times that we first met in Pennsylvania.

"Fine." I gave up and beamed, extending my glass. "To career."

"To love." Finlay grinned, and we clicked our glasses.

"Oh, and I forgot one more thing." I quickly grab my purse from the floor and took the newspaper out.

"What's this?" Finlay asked when I opened the article and placed it in front of him.

"The beginning of the end." I grinned.

Soulmate
noun

'A person who is perfectly suited to another in temperament.'

This is the definition of soulmate you'll get from Merriam-Webster.

But what exactly is a soulmate?

When my ex cheated on me, I gave up hope in love. I used to dream of us getting married having babies making our future together, but it took not even a second to crush all those years of dreams when I found him in bed with a friend of mine. I hated him and swear on never to waste my love on another guy.

Not until I met him.

He came into my life like a tsunami and flipped everything upside down. My simple and easy life became twisted and conflicting. He made me angry, sad, happy, confused, and all the emotions that you could think of... But most of all, he made me feel alive again.

I've watched a lot of movies about love and have read tons of books, but I never believed them. They ended on a note of happy ending, but what end? Because that's when life began. That's when the hardship of two people begins. I used to wonder how they even spend their lives after that happy ending.

But I stopped wondering when I found mine.

It wasn't a happy ending. It was the happy beginning of two people who fell for each other after going through a rough life. Two people find happiness, a haven in each other. Finding someone whom they can trust blindly without the fear of getting judged or mistreated.

And that's all they need to begin their new chapter knowing no matter what happens, they'll be there for each other. There is no such thing as perfect and they will have a lot of bumps and curves in their ride, but they also know in the end they'll get back to each other like nothing ever happened.

When two people fell for each other, they don't do it for looks or money. Maybe some of them do, but they fell for their souls. You accept their flaws, scares, and insecurities and provided them the embrace of love that they deserved. You grow together through thick and thin, walking step by step, not leaving the other behind.

Not everyone is lucky enough to find that person.

But I am.

Because I found him.

My soulmate.

Eeeeeek! I'm screaming!!!

And the end is here 🥲

*Sigh*

It feels so sad to end a book either you're writing or reading it. I originally started this book for ONC but then I didn't feel like writing it and put it on hold for a very long time. Then one day it just struck me and grabbed my phone and began writing it again and I'm sooooo glad I did.

I changed a lot of things throughout the story but I'm satisfied with the results ✨

I want to thank you all for reading it with all those slow updates in the beginning and I've said it so many times I'll still say it again I LOVE YOU ALL. I appreciate you all taking your time out and trying my books it means a lot to me 😭❤️

Hope you guys enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it. Though there were things that didn't make sense, and that's why it's 'Paranormal' 😆

I haven't found my soulmate but my hopeless romantic a** is still waiting. So don't you dare give up! You'll find them one day...

Till that day...
