"I'm grateful to you all for letting me stay here, Rosa."

"Ye er a part of thiz family." She smiled as she walked me back to my room.

"When I found they departed Finlay here, I couldn't help myself," I explained myself to gain her trust.

"Was the figh' bad?" She asked, making me frown.

"Huh?"

"Ye said ye fought with him before the accident."

"Oh yeah uh..." I tucked my hair lock behind my ear. "Not that bad. Just know you a 'couple' things." I let out a nervous laugh.

"Ah get it." She nodded.

"Tell her how rude you were to me," Finlay scoffed, walking to my left. I shoot him a side glare, then looked back at Rosa.

"Where's Mr. Fergus? I mean, I haven't seen him."

"In Australia for businezz." She answered.

"Does he know?"

"He does." Her lips pressed into thin lines. "He hired people there for investigation. He told 'em to bring Finlay 'ere because he'll be safer 'ere than at the hospital."

"Oh..." I recalled the bodyguards outside his room and Agent Oliver.

"Dae ye want to see him?"

"Who?" My face scrunched in confusion.

"Finlay." I halted in my steps and flickered my gaze on him. "Dae ye want to see him?" she repeated.

"Yes, please." She took me to another corridor, which looked the same as the previous one. "Do you have a map for this place?" I tried to joke. "Anyone can get lost in this."

"Ye get used to it after a while." She stopped in front of a double door. "Ere he iz."

The door creaked open, and I glanced inside. There was darkness, only a little lamp beside the bed was turned on and moonlight from the window radiated the rest of the room.

"Ah'll wait for you outside." That surprised me. I nodded my head and slowly stepped inside then closed the door behind me.

The room was bigger than mine, with a king-size bed in the middle. A sofa set, dressing table, a chandelier, and whatnot. I scanned the sleeping figure on the bed and went close to it.

"You've recovered a lot," I whispered, standing closer to the bed.

He looked better than the last time I saw him in the hospital. He had a few bruises on his face and his head was wrapped in a bandage. His chest heaved in slow breaths and it was painful to see him like this. I clasped my hands together as they itched to touch him.

"I know." He chuckled. "At least you can recognize me." Glancing at him, I tried to smile at him, but it faltered.

"We'll get you back in your body." He pressed his lips tightly and gave me a small nod.

Casting his body one last glance, I walked out of the room. I blinked my eyes to get rid of the wanted tears.

"Thank you for letting me see him." She gave me a motherly smile, and we resumed towards my guest room.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Aye."

"I don't want to offend you. It's just I'm curious about something." I gave her a sheepish smile.

"Ye want to ask about Aurora?"

"How did you..." I trailed off when she gave me a side glance.

"Finlay must hae told ye about hiz mither."

"I just know that she's not in this world anymore and... I don't know the complete story."

I wanted to learn the entire story and knew she could help me with it.

"Fergus and ah were betrothed since we were born." My eyes widened at that.

"It's twenty-first-century people still do this?"

"Some people still dae." She chuckled. "Ah never looked at any other man knowing ah will end up with him..."

"You don't have to tell me." Suddenly I felt bad for bringing up a sour subject.

"It'z awright." She waved her hand. "Fergus was nawt against it till he went to New York City and fell in luve with another hen. Ah didn't ken about it until he came 'ere after graduation with his pregnant girlfriend." I glanced at Finlay and saw him curiously listening to her story. "She was glorious."

"But what about you?"

"Ah was miserable when ah found out about it. Mah faether went furious with Henry and told him to get rid of 'er, but Fergus... He was madly in luve with her. Dolina loved Aurora, an' she tried to solve the issue, but both mah faether and Henry were after them. Fergus fought for 'er till the end and he even threatened to leave the family and everything for 'er."

"Wow." My brows shot up in surprise.

"Henry got scared because he lost hiz oldest son and he couldn't lose another knowing Lewis." Her face scrunched in disgust. "He iz of naw use. Henry let Aurora live 'ere and they had their baby, Finlay."

"Then what happened?"

"Ah'm nawt so sure, but they had quarrels... A lot of them then one night Aurora fled with Finlay."

"To Pennsylvania."

"Aye," she confirmed. "Then a year later, Henry asked mah faether for mah hand. He refused but ah wasn't over Fergus, so ah agreed."

"How is he with you?"

"He was distant in the beginnin' with meh, then we had Neil and got closer." She smiled shyly. "Ah know he still loves Aurora and ah can nawt compare with what they had, but Fergus is a superb faether and husband. I luve him so much."

"I'm glad things worked out for you two."

"They did, but then we heard about Aurora." She averted her gaze from mine to the window. "Finlay had naw one there, so Fergus got him 'ere and things got difficult because Finlay was a rebellious kid." I glanced at him and he shrugged. "He loathed hiz faether for what happened to hiz mither. Fergus tried to get on his good side, but he couldn't. Finlay resent us all except for Neil."

"Neil?" My ears perked up at that.

"Neil always wanted a big brother whenever he saw Alistair with Angus, so when he met Finlay, he waz ecstatic." She smiled at the memory. "Finlay also opened up to him after a few years an' they were inseparable."

"That's... Cute."

"Once some bullies at school beat Neil an' Finlay went frantic on 'em for hurting him. They were like actual brothers an' that made us happy."

"Wow..." I murmured as we halted out the guest room's door. "Thank you for sharing that with me, Rosa."

"Ye'er a sweet girl Amber. Ah'm glad Finlay found someone he could trust." She placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Thank you." My cheeks heated.

"Amber and blushing. That's something new." Finlay teased when Rosa left.

"Shut up," I mumbled, getting into my room and plopped onto the bed. "I don't get it."

"What?"

"The story Rosa told..." I took my jacket off as I recalled it. "I get everything except for the reason why your mother left Fergus."

"Only two people can answer that question." He blew a frustrated breath. "One is not in his this country and the other is not in this world."

I bite my lip as I tried to change the topic. It hurts to see him sad.

"I crossed a few people out of my list. Like Isla, she's just a teen and her mother, Jessica. She's more concerned about her life than giving anyone else a shit."

"Dolina is also out because I've seen she cares. When the first time she saw me, she cried her eyes out." He crossed his arms as he leaned towards the wall. I averted my gaze from his arms.

"So does Rosa."

"You're cutting the stepmother."

"She's been through so much. Still, she loves Fergus, and she also cares about you like her son."

"Neil?"

"No." I leaned on the bed headboard. "He's still suspicious and Alistair too... He was so quiet the whole time, and Angus..."

"I've lived only a few days here and most of the time he was stoned, I don't think he could do it."

"Fair enough." I bobbed my head. "Oh and Blair too."

"She's Alistair's fiance." He frowned. "What does she have on me?"

"I don't know, but she doesn't give me good vibes. Does she live here?"

"Yeah, she stays in Alistair's room."

"Means we'll see a lot of her."
