20| Hoodie guy

I scurried everything in the box and grabbed it in my arms.

"What do we do now?!" I whispered to Finlay, looking for a place to hide.

I didn't know who was behind it, but I definitely didn't want them to see me.

"In my room." He said and ran towards the bedroom.

Groaning, I followed him, and he stood beside his wooden wardrobe.

"We won't fit!" I gritted through my teeth.

"We don't have a choice!"

We both fought over hiding in the wardrobe like an old married couple, and it was stupid, considering the situation we were in. Our eyes widened when we heard the door open. Without wasting another second, I got inside the wardrobe with Finlay and closed the door.

There was silence in the apartment except for the footsteps echoing. My chest was heaving in deep breaths and I tightened my grip on the box. There was darkness in the wardrobe except for a little ray of light coming from the gap in the door.

I glanced at Finlay, who was standing in front of me. I angled my neck a little and looked up to see him already watching me. We were standing really close to each other and the only thing in the middle of us was his wooden box. His eyes darted over my face, then to my parted lips, and my stomach flipped.

Is he thinking what I think he is thinking-

I flinched when I heard the shattering sound of glass. A lot of rambling sounds came from the living room. My eyes bugged out at the sounds, and I stared at Finlay. He opened his mouth to say something but halted when the footsteps entered the bedroom.

Gulping, I peeked through the gap and saw a guy in a hoodie looking around the room and his back towards me. I watched as he threw things around, searching for something. He ruined the neatly set bed and flipped the mattress.

"What is he doing?" Finlay whispered, watching him as well.

"No idea," I mumbled and jerked back when he turned. "F**k. He's coming here." I panicked.

"What do we do?" Finlay asked, running fingers through his hair and when his elbow passed the wooden door, my brain clicked.

"F**k Fin, you're a ghost. He can't see you!" I scolded him. "Go out and distract him before he finds me!"

"Oh, right." He gave me a sheepish smile and took a deep breath as he walked past the door.

I peeked through the gap and saw the guy walking toward me. I couldn't see his face, as he had a mask and hood over it. Finlay passed the guy and stood beside his bed.

I wanted to jump out of the wardrobe and catch the guy by surprise, but I wasn't sure if that was a good idea. The guy was dressed suspiciously and what if he had a gun or any other weapon?

With that thought, I pressed my back to the wall of the wardrobe and leaned my head back when the guy extended his hand to open it. Abruptly, a lamp broke, and the guy halted.

I moved my head but winced when my hair got stuck in the wood. Jerking my head forward, I peeked through the gap. I saw the guy looking around and then he sprinted out of the room.

"Go after him!" I said to Finlay, getting out of the wardrobe.

He nodded and followed the guy out of his apartment. I took long breaths to calm my beating heart and then walked into the living room. A gasp let out my lips when I saw the beautiful room destroyed.

The books were scattered everywhere in the room and his painting were broken on the floor. The guy was definitely looking for something. I clenched the box in my hands and licked my dry lips.

Maybe this box.

"He's gone." Finlay panted entering the apartment. "He had a bike, and he rode away. I tried to follow him, but I missed."

"Did you see his face?"

"Naw." He shook his head.

"His number plate?"

"He didn't have any."

"You could have used your powers to stop his bike." I scowled.

"I'm sorry, but he was in a hurry to leave and I am not an expert in this stuff." He rolled his eyes, and I sighed, looking at the mess.

"People in the apartment must have heard him thrashing things. We need to get out of here before the police come." I said, and we hurried out of the apartment.

"I don't get what he was looking for?" Finlay mumbled, standing next to me in front of the counter.

"The box that we have in my car," I answered, sipping my coffee.

After getting out of his apartment, we got to my car and drove to the nearby cafe because I was starving and I ate nothing for breakfast.

I took my order and paid the cashier who was looking at me weirdly. Giving him a fake smile, I pointed at the EarPod in my ear and he got embarrassed.

Anyone would think I'm crazy for talking to myself, so thank you EarPods!

I walked out of the cafe and took my sandwich out of the paper bag.

"I wish I could've seen his face, or at least, hear his voice," I grumbled, taking a furious bite of my poor sandwich. "That sc*mbag ruined your sweet home!"

"Do you think he's the guy Candice was talking about?" He asked as we strolled towards my car.

"I bet on my life it was him," I mumbled and was about to open the door when I heard a dog barking behind me.

I spun on my heels and glanced down to see a little cream-colored Pomeranian barking, but not at me as his face was towards Finlay.

"Is he barking at me?" Finlay tilted his head.

"It looks like that," I mumbled and bent to my knees. "Hey, little doggie, why are you-" I jolted back up when it grunted and continued barking at Finlay.

"Mini, come back here this instant!" I looked up and saw a woman scolding the dog.

My eyes darted to her baby bump, and my lips curled into a smile.

"I'm so sorry." She gave me an apologetic smile, keeping her hand on her belly. "She gets weird like this all the time."

"It's alright." I smiled at her.

"Woof!" The dog, Mini, hopped as she continued to growl.

"Stop it Mini, there is no one standing there." The woman narrowed her eyes at the dog and I side-glanced at Finlay in confusion.

"Woof!" Mini turned towards the woman and she frowned.

"What do you mean, a handsome guy is standing there?" She glanced at Finlay but saw nothing and I arched my brow at her.

She can understand the dog?

"Tori!" A guy came towards her and put his hands around her waist. "What's wrong?"

"Mini is being Mini again." She huffed, and the dog rolled her eyes.

The dog f**king rolled her eyes!

"That's it. You have disturbed her enough." The guy said to Mini, and she stopped. "Let's go now."

"I'm sorry again," Tori said, giving me a sheepish smile. "She gets like this when she sees a hot guy, but I don't get why she's doing this when there's no one here."

Mini grunted, and the guy looked beside me.

"She's alone Mini."

What he can understand the dog too?

"Let's go, Daniel," Tori said, walking backward with Mini and began apologizing again and I waved my hand in dismissal.

"What just happened?" Finlay asked bewildered, looking at the couple walking away.

"The couple can talk to the dog and the dog who can see you called you handsome," I concluded by opening the driver's door.

"That's not normal." He frowned, and I chuckled.

"Neither me talking to you is."

A/N

Hello, my lovelies!

Here is an update and I think it'll be weekly updates for now since I'm stuck in some work and I don't know how long it's going to take 😬

I also love how writers include surprise characters from their other books so here's the trio!

I've heard dogs can see souls so what other dog to use than Mini 😆

Those who've read the book 'Mrs. Grinch in Love' also got the light on how things are working out for Victoria and Daniel 💃

Till the next chapter 😘
