17| Thalassophobia
I drove out of Candice’s shitty apartment to mine. Finlay was confused why I didn’t go straight to his.
“First, I’m hella sleepy and I need to rest.” I yawned, opening my apartment door. “And second, if we go at night to your house. I’ll have to use a flashlight to see and when the neighbors or people passing by will see lights coming out of the guy’s house who is in a coma. They’ll call the police.” I explained, locking the door and going to my room. “We’ll go in the morning and no one will suspect.”
“You’ve thought this through.” He looked at me like I was the smartest person in this world.
“I’m just using my brain.” I shrugged and plopped on my bed without changing from the dress. It was Sunday so I didn't need to worry about work. “Now I’m taking a nap don’t disturb me,” I mumbled.
I heard him chuckle and whispered something like a sweet dream, but I was already in a daze to pay attention to it.

My body suddenly felt cold, making me shiver. I peeked through my eye to see I was underwater again. After having nightmares like this every night, I got used to it and knew it was a dream.
I swam around looking for the little girl again but found her nowhere. Frowning, I glanced up when I felt something move and saw a silhouette coming toward me. It was black and was bigger than a little girl.
Suddenly fear overwhelmed me and I tried to back away, but I couldn’t move. I felt something on my leg and looked down to see a pondweed wrapping around my leg. That made me panic, and I kicked my leg to get it off, but it kept growing. My eyes widened, and I glanced up again to see the shadow coming closer to me and a hand came into my view.
I screamed and kicked my legs, but nothing worked and the hand was almost near my face when I jolted up.
Screaming, I jerked up and fell off my bed with a thud.
“F**k!” I winced and lay on my back.
“Amber? Are you alright?” Finlay’s concerned voice rang in my ears, but I let my eyes shut.
“No Fin. I’m not.” I gritted through my teeth and covered my eyes with my arm.
“Do you want to talk about it?” He kept asking me about my nightmares, but I never told him.
What was the use?
He won’t understand it.
“No-“
“Please, Amber.” I peeked through my eyes and saw his face right in front of me. “Let it out. It’ll help you.”
Gulping, I darted my eyes between his ocean-blue ones and saw my reflection. They were so gorgeous, and there was something about his eyes.
“I have nightmares of drowning in water.” He frowned, and I sat up on the floor with crossed legs. “I-I was a kid when this happened to me and I don’t even remember much of it, but since then I have thalassophobia.” I sighed, running my hands over my sweaty face.
“Did you have them before?”
“No...” I shook my head. “I never had nightmares until I met you.”
“Me?” He frowned, and I got up from the floor. “Maybe it has something to do with the fact that only you can see me.”
“Not sure.” I sighed, walking towards the bathroom. “I never met you before the club and the incidence of me drowning was like... When I was around six or something.”
His forehead scrunched as he thought about it.
“Don’t think too much.” I waved my hands in dismissal. “We'll figure it out later.”
After changing out of the dress and taking a quick bath. I wore a black tank top with the same jeans and boots. I dried my hair with the blow dryer and walked out of the bathroom to see Finlay sitting on the couch with a frown on his face.
“What’s up with you?” I asked, walking into the kitchen.
“They are doing something to me.” He whispered, putting his hand on his chest. My brows knitted in confusion.
“What-“ My eyes grew enormous when I got his point. “Your body. Do you always feel like that?”
“Whenever someone touches my body, I can feel it too.” He explained. “I learned that when I was in the ICU and they were operating on my body.”
“Did it hurt?”
“No...” He shook his head. “I couldn’t feel the pain, but like a feeling that something was going on with me... I don’t know how to explain it properly.” He mumbled.
“What are you feeling now?”
“Like...” He gulped. “They’re moving me.”
“Let’s check it out.” I grabbed my black leather jacket, and we went to the hospital.

I ran inside the hospital and discreetly passed the counter so the receptionist wouldn’t catch me. I slid into the elevator with Finlay and pressed the button to his floor.
“How’re you able to stand on this?” I eyed his feet.
“No idea.” He shrugged.
The elevator opened on the floor and I rushed toward his room, but he stopped me.
“What?”
“I’m there.” He looked the other way, making me frown.
“You were in that room-“
“Now I’m not.”
“It’s your body. You know it more than me.” I gestured for him to go. “Led the way, dude.”
He went into another hallway, and I quietly followed him. Turning around to another corridor, I stopped on my steps and hid behind the wall.
“What?” Finlay asked, seeing my reaction.
I peeked through the wall and gestured towards the same guards with sunglasses I saw outside Finlay’s room.
“You were right about being moved,” I mumbled as I narrowed my eyes at them. “But the question is, why?”
“Amber?”
“Yeah?” I saw Dr. Robert coming out of Finlay’s room with a nurse.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m watching you.”
“Me?” He asked, making me frown, and I turned around.
“What are you talking-“ I swallowed my words when I saw Conner in front of me and Finlay behind him scratching his back. “Conner! Didn’t see you there.” I shot Finlay a glare.
He could’ve alerted me!
“What are you doing here Amber?” Conner crossed his arms and looked at me intensely.
“I am...” I raked my brain for an excuse. “To see Finlay.”
“Why?” He raised his brow and from the look I got, he wasn’t in a good mood.
“Since there wasn’t any news of him, I wanted to check for myself if he’s... Alive, you know?” I let out a nervous laugh.
“Why are you so interested in him?”
“I’m curious.” I shrugged. “It’s in my bones.”
“This curiosity...” He took a step toward me. “Is going to be risky for you.”
“I’ll take my chances.” I held my head high and stared into his eyes.
Before he could say something, Dr. Robert stepped toward Conner.
“He’ll be ready to depart in a few days.” Conner nodded his head, and he walked away with the nurse.
“Depart?” I frowned.
“Go home, Amber.” Conner ignored me and walked towards the elevator.
I peeked at Finlay, and we walked after Conner. He pressed the close button but before that; I squeezed in, and Finlay passed the door.
“What are you doing with Finlay?”
“I’m not doing anything.” He answered in a monotone, without looking at me.
“Dr. Robert said something about depart? Are you sending him somewhere?”
“Like I said. I’m not sending him any-“
“For f**k sake, tell me where?!”
“Why?” He asked and pressed the stop button, making the elevator halt.
“I already told you-“
“No...” He took a dangerous step toward me, making me back away. “Tell me the truth.”
My back hit the wall, and I gulped and darted my eyes at him and Finlay. He watched me with wide eyes, not knowing what to do.
“The case got closed for the media and everyone has forgotten about him. But not you. You were also at the same club he was the night of his accident...” Conner growled and put his hands on either side of my face, trapping me. “What are you hiding from me, Amber?”
F**k.
I need to think of something to divert him.
