12| Fantasize
After putting my things in the little cubicle, I completed the morning tasks I was given. It was almost noon when I was done with my work. I was about to get up to face the wrath of Paige but was ceased by Kayla when she stomped towards my cubical with a 'You are dead' look on her face.
"You were at Soul Groove last night?" She folded her arms around her chest and tapped her pump heel on the marble floor.
"Was I?" I gasped and acted obliviously.
"The last time I brought you there you were freaking out at how shady the place was and now you went there all alone?" She threw her hands in the air. "And looking for a blondie?"
"Michael told you," I said deadpan. "He couldn't keep a single thing in his stomach?"
"Well, I'm glad he did." She narrowed her eyes at me. "Because it didn't seem like you were planning to."
I rubbed my hands over my face in frustration. "I was going to tell you, but right now I have a lot on my mind, Kayla-"
"Like Reed." She said, making me pause in mid-sentence.
"How do you..." I trailed off but already knew the answer.
Michael.
Scabby bassa!
"He told me you were looking for some blonde girl you saw with him. What exactly happened that night, Amber?"
"I told you-"
"I want the whole truth." She looked at me seriously. Sighing, I told her everything except the part where I can see Finlay and made sure no one else was listening.
"... then I told him to f**k himself and insulted his girlfriend and walked away. When I came back and sat with you, I saw him and the blondie walking out of the club fighting with each other."
"That's it?"
"Yes. That's it." I shrugged.
"You are obsessing over him because he hit on you with his girlfriend in the bathroom."
"I'm not obsessing over him, it's just..."
I can't tell her I'm seeing him or else she'll think I need to visit a mental hospital.
"Spill Amber."
"It's just that I saw him before the accident happened, and I know for sure it wasn't an accident since Conner is involved in the case. It's... Curiosity."
"Curiosity killed the cat." She said in a monotone, and I rolled my eyes.
"It's a good thing cats got nine lives."
"I'm worried about you Amber." She whispered, tucking her raven hair lock behind her ear. "I don't want you to get into a mess."
"I'll be fine besides... It's a story that'll definitely get me a promotion." I winked at her and got up from my seat.
"Where are you going now?" she asked in a concerned voice.
"Paige."
"You're kidding me, right?" She snorted, but when she saw the serious look on my face, her expressions fall. "You're going to the devil!" She squeaked, earning shushes from the nearby colleges.
Sometimes I feel like I'm in a library.
"I'm not joking, and she was the one working on this case. I'm sure she has some classified information on Fin before the case got confidential."
"Fin?" Her face scrunched in confusion.
"Finlay,"
"You are calling him Fin?" She raised her brows.
"Fin-Lay is a mouthful, that's all." I shrugged and walked towards the lift.
I unintentionally began calling him Fin and now it's over my mouth and it's not like I nicknamed a ghost that only I can see on purpose. Shaking my head, I took a deep breath and focused on the task at hand.

"Are you going to give it to me?" I asked Paige for the nth time.
I was right about her blocking my number part. The girl seriously doesn't like me and the dead look she gave me confirmed it when I entered her office.
"I will not give you Mr. Reed's information just so you can fantasize about him." She said with a poker face, making me burst to laugh.
"F-fantasize?!" I squeaked.
Why do I need to fantasize about the guy when he's twenty-four-seven in front of me?
I stopped laughing after seeing the blank look on Paige's face. Clearing my throat, I sit straight and scooted towards the desk.
"Listen Paige." I started in my professional voice. "I-we were supposed to investigate him but since 'Conner'..." I air quoted. "Got in the middle we had to stop but the thing is that I'm interested more than ever that why the FBI is getting involved in this case."
"They have seized any further investigation you could do on him-"
"I know." I sighed.
"Why are you interested?" She asked, looking skeptical.
"Because I want to know the reason and I can't get rid of this curiosity." I lied.
Well, partially because it's bizarre and I want to know why am I the only one who can see his soul.
Paige narrowed her glare at me, and I tried to remain unfazed even though it was Hella scary.
"Fine." She gave in and got up. I watched as she went towards her drawers and got a file out of it.
I grinned when she put the file in front of me. "Thank you so much!"
"Whatever." She rolled her eyes at me and sat in her chair.
I opened the file and frowned when I saw only a few pages. "Wait... that's it."
"Yes, Miss Katz." She answered without looking up from her computer. "That's it."
"But there has to be more..." I muttered and looked at the pages.
"This is all the information I got on him before I could further investigate it." I glanced at her as she gave me a bored look. "The investigation got closed and I'm not inquisitive or have spare time like you. I've more work to do, so can you please excuse me?"
I opened my mouth, but she cut me off with her scowl. Giving up, I exhaled a breath and left her office.

"You were born in Scotland and you're twenty-seven years old, which makes you almost..." I counted on my fingers. "Four years older than me."
I almost drooled at the picture that was attached to it. Finlay wore a formal grey coat over a black shirt and looked like he was in some gala. The way he was gazing at the camera made my heart flutter.
"I'm the adult here then. Now you'll listen to me." He grinned, but it faltered when I gave him a deadpan look. "Continue..."
"You came to New York to study when you were nineteen and since then you stayed here. You got an accounting degree and after a few jobs here and there, you got a job in Knight Corporation as a Chief Finance Officer... Dude." I closed the file and peeked at Finlay, who was sitting with me on my bed and looking at the paper.
"What?" He asked in confusion.
"You work in a multi-billionaire company." I showed him the pictures on Google of the mirror exterior building. "People die to get a job in this company. Do you have any idea how well-known it is?!"
"Naw." He scratched his head.
"Of course." I rolled my eyes and continued to scroll. "If you work in this company... then there's no doubt that you're rich."
"Really?" I nodded my head. "Wow..."
"Yeah... Wow..." I murmured and got a little jealous of him.
He seems like a career-oriented person.
"Can we go ask there?"
"Where?"
"My company. Since I work there... Or used to work there. They must have all my information."
"Do you think that a multi-billionaire company like that would give their employees information... especially when their employee is in a coma and the FBI has declared his case confidential?"
"Naw..." He whispered.
"Exactly."
"Then what are we going to do?" He said, slumping his shoulders, and looked disappointed.
"We'll go there."
"But you said." His brows snapped.
"I know. It's a shot in the dark, but we still need to try it..." I grinned. "Maybe they won't be able to resist my charm and give me the information I required."
"What is going on in that redhead of yours?"
"Something I always wanted to try." I winked at him.
