10| Back to Groove
After hours of research, I still wasn’t able to come up with a way to put him in his body. As for him, I glanced at Finlay and saw him still struggling to move the holder.
“That’s enough,” I announced and closed my laptop. “Maybe it’s not supposed to work like this-“
“Naw, I can do it.” He cut me off and threw daggers at the poor penholder. “I know I can.”
“Ok... You do your thing. I’m starving.” I got up from my bed and walked toward the kitchen. “Would you like to eat something?” I stopped at the doorframe and turned to look at Finlay, who was squinting his eyes at me. “Just asking, Dude.” I put my hands in surrender and backed away, chuckling.
I made myself a Baked Ranch Chicken with Bacon and ate my meal sitting on the couch with crossed legs. Switching the channels to watch the news, I was surprised to see there wasn’t a single piece of news about Finlay and his condition.
Conner was serious about the confidential part.
I glanced at the wall clock, and it was around six. I switched the TV off to get ready for the club when I heard Finlay shouting.
“I did it!” I jolted to my room and saw him bouncing on his steps like a kid.
“What?”
He snapped his head towards me and grinned. “I moved it! Here, let me show you.”
I watched as he extended his hand in front and his face turned seriously making him look extra hot-
Focus!
I glanced at the penholder and my eyes widened when I saw it floating a few inches from the floor. After a second, it fell to the floor again.
“Woah,” I mumbled in a low voice, not believing what I saw.
“I need to practice more to keep it because it’s difficult to concentrate but... I did it!” Finlay beamed, looking proud of himself.
“Congratulations.” I clapped my hands and grinned. “You’re getting the hang of this soul thing.”
“Thanks.” He rubbed the back of his neck as his ears turned red.
Cute and hot.
Damn... This guy is everything.
I continued to stare at him as he slowly met my eyes with his sparkling ocean ones and his lips stretched into a smile, making me swoon over his dimples. I cleared my throat and looked away from him.
“Uh... We need to get ready.” I said, moving towards the bathroom.
“Why?”
“It’s time to go back to Soul Groove.”

I parked my car in the lot and saw the entrance was empty. It was still early for people to arrive at the nightclub. I glanced at the passenger seat and frowned at Finlay.
“How are you able to sit?”
“Honestly... I don’t know.” He replied, confused.
Nodding my head, I got out of the car and went straight to the club. I passed a smile to the bouncer, who gave me a poker face. I sighed in relief when I saw Michael at the bar. There were still many people but not packed like last time.
“I’ve been here before,” Finlay muttered, standing beside me as he observed the club.
“This is where we met,” I answered him and we walked towards the bar. “Do you remember anything?” He shook his head.
I sighed and sat on the stool when we reached the bar. I watched Finlay sitting on the seat beside me.
How he can sit on the stool and pass through the door I beyond my imagination.
“Amber?” I turned my head and saw Michael looking at me, surprised. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m going to get straight to the point,” I said and leaned toward him as he watched me in confusion. “I’m looking for a blondie.”
“A who?” He frowned, and I rolled my eyes.
“You remember the accident that happened on Friday?”
“Yeah...”
“The guy in that accident, he was here at the club-“
“Shh...” Michael put his hand on my mouth and turned his head left and right to see if someone heard us. “Don’t say that out loud.” I narrowed my eyes at his suspicious behavior. He pulled his hand and leaned in. “The cops don’t know about that yet.”
“You mean they haven’t checked this place?” I tilted my head.
“They don’t have the CCTV footage since there weren’t any cameras in that area, so they’re not sure from where he was coming from.” He whispered.
“It won’t take long for them to figure it out.” My mind went to Conner. “Why didn’t anyone report it?”
“The same reason you didn’t.” He smirked.
“Touché... that means you remember the guy.”
“Yeah.” He replied, cleaning the top with a rag. “It’s not every day a Scott guy comes here. He seemed like a nice guy.” He shrugged his shoulders. “But with the wrong girl.” My brows shot up in surprise.
“You know the girl?”
“Candice.” He nodded, then frowned. “Wait... You’re looking for Candice?”
“Yes. Tell me what you know about her.”
“Why are you interested in her?” He tilted his head.
“I want to ask her some questions.” Michael opened his mouth, but I held my hand to stop him. “I need to find this girl, so why don’t you help your future-girlfriend’s-best friend?” I plastered a smile on my face. “Trust me, you don’t want to get on the best friend’s bad side.”
He chuckled in amusement. “I don’t know her personally. She used to come here with Bill a few years back, but after she ended things with him, I didn’t see her until this Friday.”
“So this Bill guy...?”
“He loved her.” Michael sighed and continued. “He used to come here and babbled how much he was in love with her but she ditched him for another guy.” I glimpsed at Finlay, who was curiously listening to Michael beside me. “It shocked me to see her here on Friday. She didn’t remember me, but I couldn’t forget about her after all the rambling Bill did.” He chuckled.
“Does this Bill guy know her whereabouts?”
“Most probably, yeah, but he hasn’t come here in a long time.” I groaned and rubbed my face in frustration.
“Where I can find this Bill guy?”
“I don’t know.” I banged my head on the counter as he continued. “But he comes here once in a month or two.”
I stopped and glanced at him as he passed me a drink. “Do you have any idea when he’ll come again?” I took my bag out, but he stopped me.
“It’s on the house.” He smiled. “And no I’ve no idea.”
“Two vodkas!” A guy screamed behind me and came to sit in Finlay’s seat. I put my leg in front to stop him.
“This seat is taken.” I plastered a smile on my face. “Go somewhere else.” I shooed him, waving my hands.
He scowled and took the seat beside him. “That was nice of you.” Finlay grinned at me. I shrugged my shoulders and turned to Michael, who looked confused.
“Are you waiting for someone?” He asked, making a drink for the guy and eyed the seat beside me.
“I just didn’t want him to sit here,” I replied and gulped my drink. “Thank you for the drink. I have to go now.” I muttered, standing from my place. “And if you see this Bill guy again, let me know.”
“Sure, anything for my future-girlfriend’s-best friend.” He smirked.
“You are smart.” I beamed. “Help me meet Bill, and I’ll save your a** when you screw things up with Kayla.”
“I will not screw things up.” He frowned.
“Oh you will, you’re a guy.” I gave him a sly grin and exit the club with Finlay.
“What are we going to do now?” He asked when we were outside.
The cool end-of-May breeze sends a little shiver down my spine and I was glad June was about to start.
“We have to wait for Bill to show up at the club and pray that Paige will give me information about you,” I huffed and crossed my arms.
“Amber?” My shoulders tensed when I heard my name called by a familiar voice.
F**k!
