7.) Little Siren
~~~Peters's POV~~~
After a failed attempt of trying to make dinner, May and I decide to go out to eat instead.
"So how was this week of school? You haven't really talked about school," May questions as we sit down in the small Chinese restaurant.
Only a few people occupy the restaurant, all keeping to themselves quietly. We sit away from everyone.
"Ah! I forgot!"
May chuckles. "The first couple weeks are usually pretty crazy and you've been busy... spideying," she whispers. "I've also been busy at work. We haven't really had a chance to sit down and talk lately."
"Yeah," I awkwardly rub the back of my neck. "Sorry..."
"Peter, it's fine. I understand. We've both been busy," she shrugs. "It happens. Now, tell me all the exciting things that've happened lately."
He laughs. "Well, I... made a new friend."
"Is it a girl?"
"May!"
She laughs. "Is she cute?"
I sigh. "Her name is Melody, and she came from Colorado with her parents and younger brother, Dylan. He's a freshman. And, yes, she's cute... and really pretty."
"Melody's a pretty name. Any classes together?"
"Pretty much all of them," I tell her. "She lives in the penthouse of those big new complexes down the road."
"Oh? What do her parents do to get one of those?"
"Uh... she said her dad is an architect and a, umm... broadway director sometimes and her mom is a surgeon I think?"
"Really? That's pretty cool," May smiles. "Guess that's why her name is Melody with having a dad like that. What's her last name?"
"Uh, Tamber."
May gasps, slapping her hands on the table. "Are you saying her father is Terrence Tamber?!"
"I guess? I don't know her father's name."
"Sometimes a broadway director?! He's a big time broadway star as a director and an actor too!"
"I didn't know you liked that stuff."
"Wow, you need to get his autograph when you meet him for me."
"That's embarrassing..."
"Oh hush, I'm sure he'd love to do it."
We order our food once the waiter comes over. "We'll get right to it." He disappears as quickly as he came.
"So, tell me more about this girl."
"Well, I found out where she lives when I was swinging around. She was singing. Oh yeah, she's also in chorus! Anyway, her voice was so... melodic... Uh, no pun intended... It was so hypnotizing like I was being drawn in like... like..."
"A siren?" May suggests.
"Yeah! Exactly like that."
"So you found yourself a little siren. That's cute."
"But, the thing is... she heard me land on the roof and walk over to her. Ned pointed out that I don't make any sound when I'm in the suit. Then, once she was done singing, she flipped out when she saw me and ran off."
"Maybe your suit scared her?"
"Maybe, but later in the night I heard a gun shot from this alleyway and went to check it out. When I arrived, I saw her with her brother surrounded by thugs who were all beaten on the ground."
May blinks in surprise. "Okay... then I don't know the answer. That's mysterious."
"Her brother told me that they both know martial arts, and it was obvious that the thugs were attacking them, but it was still so weird."
"Well, it's a good thing they know how to protect themselves," May says, taking a sip of her drink. "The city can be a dangerous place especially in the world we live with villains and heroes."
"Ned thinks she has powers like me," I sigh. "Of course, that wouldn't make sense if she lived in Colorado. They only made the spiders here in New York."
May shrugs. "That doesn't mean she doesn't have powers. Anyone on the street could have powers, and you'd never know. Just like you. But I doubt she has powers, it's uncommon not common. She likely has really good hearing because she's a singer and trained herself to be that way. Lots of people are more in tune with their senses."
"Yeah, that makes sense."
"Anyway, I want to meet this girl now. You should invite her over."
"Aunt Maaay!"
...
"Peter! Wake up you're going to be late!" May shouts, banging on the door to my room.
"Shiiiit!" I burst outta bed, rushing around the room and grabbing everything I need for school.
May tosses me an apple on my way out the door. "Be careful! Love you!"
"Love you too!" I make my way up to the roof, stripping off my clothes to my suit underneath and stuffing them in my bag. I pull on my mask and swing off towards the school. "Gonna be late! Karen what's the time?"
"8:20am."
"10 minutes! That's not... too bad." I groan and swing a bit faster. After a few swings, I spot Melody running alone. I tilt my head in confusion. "Doesn't she have a car?"
"Is that the girl you've been talking so much about?" Karen asks.
"Ah, yeah. Should I go say hello?"
"You have 8 minutes until the bell rings."
"Well, she's going in the same direction, it'll be fine," I say, swinging down beside her.
"If you say so, Peter."
She looks in my direction before I'm even close. I can see her visibly sigh as I land beside her.
"Hey, little Siren."
"What you stalking me now?" she asks exasperatedly. "And little Siren?"
"Yeah, Siren because your voice makes people entranced and drawn to you. Anyway, uh no, I... uh, we got off on the wrong foot when we met. I'm sorry if I scared you..."
"You didn't scare—nevermind," she sighs, face flushing a bit. "Is that... really what's been on your mind all this time?"
"Yeah, kinda... Soo... where's your brother?"
"He had to get to school early for something," she shrugs. "Anyways, you're making me late, so I'm gonna go."
"Uh, where do you go to school?"
"Why do you need to know?"
"I mean... I can... get you there faster by swinging you there... uh, if you want?"
"Yeah cause I'm sure being spotted with you would be any good for me. Don't you have heroing to do?"
"It's calm right now. Boring really. And I'll drop you off in an alleyway nearby so no one will see us."
She gives me a confused look. "And do tell why you wanna do this so bad?"
I shrug, rubbing the back of my neck. "I guess to make up for scaring you."
She sighs, looking at the time on her phone. "I got a few minutes till I need to be there, I guess I'll take your offer."
Yes! "Alright, hold on tight." I move close to her, wrapping my arm around her waist.
She immediately wraps her legs around my waist and arms around my neck. "Oh, uh... is-is this alright?" Her face flushes.
C-Cute! "Uh, yeah, t-that's probably bet-better too." I'm so glad I'm wearing a mask, I'm probably just as red as my suit...
"Should I call Mr. Stark? Your heart rate is beating faster than normal," Karen asks.
"No! I'm fine. You don't need to call him."
"Call who? Who are you talking to?"
"No one. Get ready because here we go!" I thwip out a web and swing off.
She squeaks, tightly closing her eyes. After a few moments, she opens her eyes, lifting her head from my neck. "Wow..."
I chuckle. "Cool huh?"
"Yeah... I could get used to this," she replies. "This is sorta peaceful."
"Right? This is my favorite part," I respond.
We continue to quickly swing and get to Midtown in no time.
She stands up, separating from me. "Thanks, that was fun. I owe you one."
"Don't worry about it," I say. "I gotta go. See you around!"
"Wait, how did you know..." she says, turning to me and not spotting me. "...that I went to Midtown?" She sighs and runs off into the school.
~~~
Lunchtime rolls around, and I don't spot Melody at our table as I enter the cafeteria. Sitting at the table is Harry, Gwen, and Michelle.
"That's odd, where's Melody?" I ask, setting my books down. "She was the first to leave Lit."
"I don't know," MJ answers, setting her books down. "She pretty much vanished after class. Didn't even wait for us."
"Yeah, I almost didn't even see her leave," I admit. "I figured she would beat us here."
"I didn't see her at her locker when we left either," Ned says with a shrug.
"What's her next class?" Michelle asks.
"Uh, I don't know," I admit, looking to MJ. "You know?"
"Yeah, she has chorus I believe," MJ answers.
"Her brother might know where she's at," Michelle suggests, pointing to said boy that's sitting at a nearby table with his new friends.
"Good idea, Michelle."
"I know," she replies, never looking up from her book.
I set my bag down at our table then make my way over to her brother's table. "Hey, Dylan, right?"
Dylan looks up from his conversation, looking me up and down. "Please don't tell me you're another of my sister's admirers. I swear if I get another confession... No, I'm not giving you her phone number. Ask her yourself."
Seriously? She... really has people already crushing on her? "Oh, uh, no, I'm her friend. Peter?"
He looks up at me. "Oh, right. Sorry, I'm not very good at remembering faces. So, what do you need from me?"
"I was curious if you knew where Melody is? She hasn't joined us for lunch yet."
"If she's not here, she's probably in the choir room," he answers and points at a teacher. "That's the choir teacher, he has his planning period this period, so he watches over lunch. Mels usually plays the piano and sings or some other thing to practice. If she's not there then the library maybe. I don't know otherwise."
"Ah, thanks."
"No problem."
I head back to the table and sit in my usual spot. "Dylan thinks she's probably in the choir room."
"I'll shoot her a text," Harry says, pulling out his phone.
...
The next couple days go the same way, Melody disappearing to the choir room for lunch and us sitting without her.
"I miss Melody," Ned sighs.
"Same," Gwen says. "She was fun to talk to."
"Yeah, she would be able to help me with this French homework," Harry groans, glaring at said work.
I chuckle. "You guys act like she's dead or something."
"Well, it does kinda seems like it," Harry shrugs. "We only ever see her during class, so we never really get to talk to her anymore."
"You should go see what she's doing," Michelle says as she continues reading.
"Me? Why me? You are the ones complaining you miss her."
Michelle shrugs in response, eating a few fries from her tray. "You're the only one not busy with studying."
"Neither are you." I sigh and stand up. "Fine, I'll go check on her then."
"Yay!" MJ says with a clap. "Tell her we all miss her."
"Yeah, yeah."
I wave her off and head off to the choir room. The only reason I know where it is is because the band room is right next door. It's odd seeing the music hall so abandoned. All the arts teachers have lunch at this time. The only sound filling the hall is ominously gorgeous singing.
My sixth sense begins to warn me of slight danger, but I ignore it. It sometimes goes off at stupid times. The sense stops almost as quickly as it started, making me a bit confused. I shake it off. I continue along and stand at the door, watching her through the window.
It's nice to clearly hear her singing this time without the distractions of New York.
I continue to listen, becoming entranced as I usually do. I decide to enter the room as quietly as I can.
Melody's singing pauses for a second but then she continues.
A few minutes later, she finishes and turns towards me.
"Uh, hey, Peter..."
"That was beautiful," I say, clapping. "Took my breath away."
She blushes. "I've been told I sound like a siren."
I laugh. "That's a prefect fit. Whoever told you that knows what they're talking about."
"So, uh..."
"Everyone misses you at lunch," I say. "Everyone's curious as to why you're practicing so much. They volunteered me to come."
She chuckles. "Sorry. I didn't mean to just abandon all of you. I didn't think I meant all that much to you either. We have only known each other for a few weeks. I also need to practice a lot to keep my voice in check. Don't wanna go outta control and ruin everything."
"Once you're friends with us, you can't leave. You're stuck with us now," I joke. "What do you mean by outta control?"
"Like go off pitch," she says. "If I sing the wrong note, it'll be heard by everyone and ruin the whole performance. I also need to catch up on the songs because I came later in the year."
"Ah, like in band."
"You're in band?"
"Ah, no... At least... not anymore. I quit."
"What for?"
"I, uh, got busy. I have an internship at Stark Industries..."
"Really?! That's so cool! You're so lucky! I heard it's rare for anyone to get in especially a high schooler. You must be really smart," she compliments.
I feel my face get warm. "Uh, heh, yeah, that's what I've been told..."
She giggles cutely. "I can see you're not really good with compliments. But... I can't really say anything, I don't take them well either. So, uh, what do you... do at your internship?"
"You actually believe me?"
"What reason would you have to lie?"
I perk up and smile. "Well, I'm... Mr. Stark's personal intern..."
"Whoa!" she shouts, jumping up. "Then you must be incredibly smart! I'd ask you if I could meet him, but I'm sure he wouldn't let you." She chuckles, falling back onto the piano bench. "Who knows, maybe one day I'll meet him through my dad."
Peter chuckles. "Is your dad, by chance, Terrence Tamber?"
"He is, why?"
"My aunt is a fan."
"Really? I'll get her to meet him if she wants."
"I think she'd enjoy that," I laugh.
"Even better, I'll get you some tickets for his next show. How about that?"
"You really don't have to do that."
"Well... you are my friend now Peter, it's only fair. I insist. And, if you don't want to then you two can be my special guests. I'm... kinda one of the leading roles..."
"Wow, that's amazing!"
"It's not that amazing. My dad is the director after all... so I always get a part."
"It's still really cool though. You must have all sorts of connections, so you won't have to worry about your future."
She flushes with all the compliments. "W-Well, yeah... I guess... But being with Tony Stark, I could say the same to you."
...
3rd Person POV
The next few days, Peter ends up heading straight to listen to Melody sing during lunch.
"Man, Peter abandoned us for Melody," Ned pouts. "I miss my nerdy friend."
Michelle pats him on the back a few times, but remains quite as she continues to read her book.
"Should we go too?" Harry suggests.
MJ grins. "Nooo! Don't you think those two would be really cute together?!"
"Mary Jane, don't go crazy," Harry sighs.
"You know Peter isn't really into going after people anymore," Ned sighs. "Not after all that craziness with Liz and her dad. What if her family is full of supervillains?"
"Her father is a broadway music director, what reason would he have to be a villain?" Gwen scoffs.
"You never know," Ned shrugs. "Anyone could be a villain."
"Like my dad," Harry says as he scribbles away on some homework due next class.
"Yeah, like Harry's dad," Ned agrees.
Michelle and Gwen roll their eyes. "That's because Harry's dad was a lunatic." The two girls grin at each other after they spoke in sync and chuckle.
"Can't lie with you there," Harry nods, thinking for the answer on his homework and biting the end of his pencil in thought.
"Guess we have to meet her family before we can decide then," Gwen sighs.
"Let's go spy on them," MJ suggests.
"I'm in," Michelle replies, shutting her book with one hand.
"Can't gotta get this finished," Harry says.
"Take it with us," MJ says, pulling him up by his wrist.
He groans, knowing he won't win against his mate. "Fine."
The group stands up and makes their way to the music and arts hall. They get to the door and peek through the windows. Inside they spot the two sitting on the piano bench together and laughing.
"Aww, they're so cute," MJ coos.
Melody heard the group coming once they left the cafeteria together. Her head tilts in their direction once they make it to the door. She flushes at MJ's comment.
Peter takes notice of her flushed face and concern crosses his features. "Are you alright? Your face is all red."
"A-ah, yeah, I'm fine," she replies. "You wanna keep going?"
"Nah, I'm done," Peter says. "I'm having fun learning to play though!"
"You wanna see something cool?"
"Sure."
She closes her eyes. "Now play any random key, and I'll tell you exactly which key it is."
His eyes light up, though she can't see, and presses a random key. He continues to do so, and she gets every one of them correct. "Wow, that's amazing!"
"I was born with perfect pitch," Melody says. "Dad said he was too."
"Daddy's girl?"
She laughs. "Yeah, and Dylan is a momma's boy. Dylan can't sing worth squat."
"I don't think anyone can compare to your singing if I'm being honest."
She flushes. "Th-thanks..."
"It's angelic."
"Aww, he's hardcore flirting," MJ whispers to the group.
That in turn makes Peter look towards the door, spotting their friends.
"I-I am not!" Peter huffs.
"Huh?" Melody acts confused, looking to the door too. "Guys?"
"Retreat! Retreat!" Ned shouts, rushing off.
"We've already been caught," Michelle says, opening the door and heading inside. "Sup, losers."
The others file in behind her awkwardly standing there.
"We should've known you'd hear us," Harry chuckles, crossing his arms. "Now help me with my physics homework." He waves said homework.
Peter chuckles, standing up and heading over to him. "Yeah, sure Harry."
~~~
"Thanks for the ride, Melody," Peter says, hopping in the back seat.
"Well, we do live near each other," Melody replies, setting her bag in the back seat beside him.
Dylan gets in shotgun, putting his bag on the floorboards at his feet. "When did the two of you become so close?"
"I've been teaching him how to play piano," Melody replies, shutting the back door and getting in the front. She shuts her door then starts the car.
"Really?" Dylan questions, slightly tilting his head.
"Yep! She's really good!" Peter compliments.
Melody pulls out of the school.
"I know, I live with her."
"Ah, oh, yeah..."
"Excuse him, he's always been kind of a sourpuss around my friends."
"Especially if they're boys," Dylan admits.
Melody shrugs. "Yeah, that's pretty true. You know you're strangely protective. I'm the older sister, and you know I can protect myself."
"It's still a sibling thing to protect each other."
"Still, Dylpick–"
Peter chuckles. "No, it's okay. I get it. If I had a sibling I'd probably be the same way."
Dylan looks at his scrawny form. "Might wanna work out then."
Peter gives a sheepish grin in response, awkwardly rubbing the back of his head. "W-well, she's... a really good teacher too."
"Well, it helps that you already know keys and things like that otherwise I'd probably have a harder time with it."
Dylan turns around to face the front and crosses his arms.
"Yeah, thank you band."
"Hey, when's the last time you saw your soulmate?" Dylan blurts out.
Melody's grip on the steering wheel gets tighter, glaring at the road. "Why would you randomly ask that?"
"Wow, you've met your soulmate? That's pretty cool!" Peter comments. "Does he, or she not judging, go to our school?"
Melody glances at Peter through the rear view mirror. She sighs. "Yeah, I... don't wanna talk about him."
"Oh..."
It's silent after that as they continue down the road.
"Hold on!" Melody randomly shouts in panic.
Peter's sixth sense begins to act up, and he looks around just as the car swerves. He looks up ahead.
Where the car once was is another, now ruined, car. Outside people are screaming and running away, hopping out of their cars and going in the opposite direction of the attack.
He spots two of his enemies, Rhino and Scorpion. "What could they want now?"
"Son of a bitch!" Melody shouts, slapping the top of her steering wheel. "If you so much as get a scratch on this car!"
Peter looks at her in surprise, never hearing her cuss before. He shakes out of it after a few seconds. "Ah! You—uh, we should probably run away!"
"Yeah, no. I am not leaving my car to get thrown," Melody growls.
"Hope you have insurance!" Peter opens the car door and darts out, disappearing with the screaming crowd.
"Peter!" Dylan shouts. He crosses his arms. "What a pussy!"
"Dylan!" Melody barks.
"Spiderman! Come out come out wherever you are!" Rhino shouts.
Walking beside him is Scorpion. They're rampaging down the street, flinging cars left and right and making as much destruction as they can. They're heading right towards them.
"Seems we're gonna see your boyfriend after all," Dylan says.
"He's not—nevermind! Let's hurry and move my car before he arrives," Melody says.
"Wait, is your outfit ready? Did you bring it with you?" Dylan shouts. "You should make your debut!"
Her eyebrows bunch together and her upper lip curls in thought. "Ugh, fine. I'm only doing this to save my car. If anything happens to my car while I'm gone–"
"I'll protect it."
Her eyes narrow at him for a few seconds before grabbing her bag and taking off into a nearby alleyway.
Dylan moves to stand in front of the car, crossing his arms in a bored manner as he eyes the two villains. This doesn't go unnoticed by the two. Rhino grins, running towards him. Dylan sighs and begins to move away from his sister's car. He definitely does not wanna be on the receiving end of her rage.
Rhino laughs. "Bad move kid." He reaches to grab him.
Dylan moves to smack away his hand only for Spiderman to show up and pull Rhino's arm away from Dylan with his webs. "Going for a civilian? That's not your style, you're too stupid to think up something like that!" He pulls back and swings Rhino into Scorpion. "Now, what could the two of you want with little ol' me?"
"Oh, yay, Spiderman saved me," Dylan sarcastically says with an eyeroll. "I'll go and hide now."
Spiderman nods a bit confused at his lack of emotion and heads down the street to continue to take care of the two villains.
Dylan looks around spotting nobody and quickly runs back to the car. He lifts it up and runs down the street in the opposite direction of the battle. He places it somewhere he believes is safe before heading back to find his sister.
She finds him instead, dressed in her disguise. "Where were you and where's my car?"
"I was taking it to a safe place."
"Were you seen?"
"Not even by cameras."
"Good."
"Now go and make your debut."
A helicopter flies overhead with Daily Bugle plastered on the side of it and heads straight for the battle down the road.
She watches and sighs. "Go and find somewhere safe."
"Are you kidding? I'm not gonna miss your debut." He chuckles. "Definitely not."
She sighs, watching Spiderman get thrown through a window of a nearby shop. She winces, feeling her heart pull. She sighs, finding the new feeling a bit annoying. For the first time in forever, Melody wishes there was no such thing as soulmates. For once she hated that she was specifically bonded to one person.
"Alright, be safe," she responds before using the sound waves to fly over to the battle.
"You too."
She flies down and screeches, a vertigo induced, screech at Rhino while descending fast and kicking him back with both feet. He's thrown back, skidding along the road and crashing into a few cars.
Spiderman whips around in confusion, never seeing her before. Scorpion takes that moment to swing his tail at him only for Spiderman to backflip over it. "Try again!" he taunts, twhipping webs into his eyes and jumping away.
"Agg!" Scorpion angrily grunts, pulling at the webs.
Spiderman ends up back to back with Melody. "Why hello there. Nice to meet you, I'm Spiderman. Though I'm sure you knew that. I am a pretty popular superhero," he boasts. "You a new superhero? Haven't seen you around before."
Melody doesn't reply but gives a nod.
"Spiderman!" Scorpion shouts.
"Ah, not a big talker?" Spidey quips, shooting another web into Scorpion's eyes.
Melody sucks in a breath and releases a sonic scream towards the Rhino, making him flinch back and hold his ears to try and block out the attack.
Spiderman manages to rip off Scorpion's tail and smacks the villain back with it. Scorpion is flung back, bouncing off a few cars and passing out. Spidey covers him in webs.
"Stop bitch!" Rhino shouts, teetering back and forth.
She increases the pitch and makes Rhino quickly pass out.
Spiderman moves up beside her, covering Rhino in webs. "What were you doing to him? How did you hurt him?"
Melody vibrates her vocal chords to make her sound completely different. "I'm able to release sonic screams and produce different effects based on which pitch I sing. I'm able to manipulate sound waves around me so only my intended target can hear it."
"Wow! That's really impressive!"
"I know."
"So, uh, what's your name?"
"You tell me first."
"Oh, I-I meant your hero name..."
She goes quiet. She hasn't thought about that yet. She didn't think debuting would be this soon. Spiderman waves his hand in front of her face to make her snap out of her thoughts.
"Uh, Sire—uh, no... I-I don't know... Haven't decided yet."
"MMm, then I'll decide for you."
"I'd rather you not."
"Mm, how about Tune, Pitch, Screech, Song, ...Melody?" She flinches. "Ah, no, that'd be weird. Siren? Ah, no, that's taken. Uh, Chime, no that's lame. Wail? Nah. Ah! I know! Lyric! That's your name!"
She thinks about it, eyebrows furrowing as her gaze focuses on the ground. "Uh."
He expectantly watches her, trying to read her expressions, but unable to with the mask with the whited out eyes and mask covering her mouth and nose. "Do you like it? I can't really read your face expression with the masks and all..."
She shakes her head. "Uh, sure, that sounds good to me. Lyric..."
Spiderman takes in her outfit. "You might wanna get a better supersuit together."
"Like you can talk. I've seen your first outfit from YouTube," Lyric scoffs.
He blushes, glad that she can't see it. "Y-Yeah, okay that's fair."
Lyric looks off in the distance hearing sirens on their way.
"We should go. The police are on the way."
"And we don't wanna be around when they're here." Before Lyric can say anything, Spiderman grabs her by the waist and swings them to the top of the building nearby.
The police, swat, and SHIELD finally show up, taking Scorpion and Rhino away.
"Uh, you can release me now," Lyric says.
Spidey flushes, letting her go. "O-Oh, y-yeah, um, right..." He takes a few steps away from her.
"I'm able to fly."
"Huh?"
"You didn't have to swing me up here, I'm able to fly."
"Oh, right. Sorry."
She shakes her head. "It's... fine."
"So, uh, new hero? That's... exciting. What made you wanna be a hero?"
"Didn't really want to," she honestly answers. "But, I have the power to so... why not?"
"With great power comes great responsibility."
"Uh, yeah, sounds about right."
"So, uh... should... we–"
"I have to go."
"Ah, yeah, right. Totally understand! I gotta... go too!"
She looks at him for a second before shaking her head. "See ya I guess."
"Yeah, bye!"
She flies off back to the alley she changed in, slipping her pants overtop the winged leggings and pulling off the hoodie to reveal what she was wearing before. She stuffs everything in her bag before heading out to find her brother.
"That was so awesome!" Dylan says excitedly. "That Rhino guy didn't stand a chance!"
"Come on, we need to go find Peter," Melody says. "Let's get to the car."
Dylan rolls his eyes. "Can't we just leave him?"
"What's your issue with Peter? He's a sweet and really smart person."
"Well, you found your soulmate. You shouldn't flirt with someone else."
Her eye twitches. "I'm not flirting with Peter!"
"Puh-lease."
She ignores him as she takes out her phone. He takes her to the car as Melody calls Peter.
"Peter? Where are you?" It's silent as he responds. "Can you meet us at the cafe on the corner? I'll come pick you up in the car." Silent. "Alright, good. See you in a second."
"Where's he at?"
"I don't know, he didn't say. It doesn't matter though as long as we pick him back up."
He shurgs. "Don't care either way."
"Then why did you bother to ask you little douchebag? God you're annoying. I should just leave you here instead. How'd you like that?"
She gets in her car, slamming the door shut behind her and locking the door, so he can't get in.
"You know I can just rip the door off!" Dylan shouts.
"And you know if you do it, I'll literally kill you!" Melody replies, backing up and driving off. She lets off a satisfied snicker. She drives to the cafe and picks up Peter.
He opens the back. "Hey, I'm–"
"Come sit up front!"
"Huh?" He sees the empty seat. "Where's Dylan?"
"I left him because he was being an ass," she responds. "We'll get him."
He blinks at her, still not used to her cussing. "Yeah, okay." He shuts the door and opens the shotgun's door, putting his bag on the floor and sliding in then closes the door. "Uh, should I ask what he was being an ass about?"
"He was being mean, and I didn't like it."
Peter chuckles. "Sounds like a sibling thing."
She hums. "In a way, I guess it would be."
They continue down the road, finding Dylan standing on the corner with his arms crossed and a big pout on his face. He moves to get in the front, finding it locked.
"Meeeellll!"
"Get in the back!"
He snarls and flings himself in the back angrily.
"Oh, are the two of you okay? I was worried when I didn't see you leave," Peter asks.
"We were fine. We can handle ourselves," Dylan says. "Instead of fleeing like some pussy."
"Stop being a big sourpuss," Melody singsongs. "You know what happens when you're being a sourpuss."
Dylan's face pales, thinking about the pain training she put him through. "Never again..." He shivers.
Peter glances at him out his peripheral, wondering what sorta thing she does that scares him this bad. He decides not to ask. "So, uh, did you see what happened?"
"Spiderman showed up and some other hero I've never seen before," Melody says.
"And what do you think about Spiderman... a-and the other hero?"
She glances at him for a second to him looking back at her. "She quickly took down the Rhino, so... good. Spiderman... he did great... as he usually does."
"Do you... not like Spiderman?" Peter asks hesitantly.
She's silent for a few seconds as she focuses on the road. "No, I do like him. He's cool."
"Then what's wrong?"
Dylan chuckles.
She glares at her brother. "Don't."
Dylan puts his hands up. "Wasn't planning to."
She sighs. "Nothing's wrong. It's just that I don't know how I feel about him yet. I'm still deciding."
Dylan rolls his eyes at that.
Peter's POV
Melody pulls up at my apartment complex.
"Thanks for the ride, Mels," I say, grabbing my bag. "Would... you guys like to come in?"
"I'd love to, but I gotta go with dad to practice for the musical," Melody says. "Next time?"
"Y-Yeah, sure! Sounds great!" I open the door. "Have fun at practice!" I get out the car. "See ya."
"Bye, Peter!" Melody says with a smile and wave.
I shut the door behind me and wave them off. I immediately pull out my phone after they're out of view.
Ned picks up after one ring. "Dude!"
"Dude, you won't believe what just happened," I say, turning and heading into my building.
"I know! I saw the news! A new hero, and she's a girl! I need all the details dude!"
"She didn't really talk enough for me to get who she is. But! I gave her her hero name!" I get into the elevator, pressing the number to my floor.
"That's so cool! She was so badass! She took care of the Rhino like it was nothing and I couldn't even tell what she did! What's her name?"
"I decided on Lyric! She has sonic screams that she can control to only let her intended target hear it. At least that's what I gathered as I couldn't hear it. Anyway, she told me she could produce different effects depending on what pitch she sings."
"That's so freaking badass! I think I'm in love. She's my new favorite hero."
"Dude!"
"Sorry, bro. She's way cooler than you."
"You suck," I laugh, exiting the elevator and heading to the apartment.
"Just stating facts bro. You should totally ask her out. Could you imagine? Two supers dating? You'd have like super babies."
I laugh, opening and entering the apartment. "I just met her dude. Besides–"
"You totally have a thing for Melody."
"What?! That's not what I was going to say!" I huff.
He chuckles. "Didn't have to dude. You're totally giving her the love sick puppy dog eyes like you did with Liz."
"I do not!"
"Hold on," Ned says.
"Alright."
A bunch of hello's enter the conversation. I look down at the phone to see Ned added everyone except Melody to the call.
"I brought you all here today to ask if Peter gives Melody the lovesick puppy dog eyes," Ned says.
"Dude!"
"Oh yeah," Michelle immediately answers.
"Definitely," Harry and MJ say.
"For sure," Gwen says.
"I do not!"
"Dude, as your oldest friend, you totally do," Harry says.
"I hate all of you," I pout, falling backwards onto the couch.
"Dude, you follow her around like a lost puppy," Ned says.
"I don't have a crush on her, besides she's already found her soulmate," I tell them.
"Wait, seriously?!" MJ and Gwen squeal.
"Oops, I really shouldn't of said that..." I mutter.
"Details!" MJ shouts. "Do we know him? What does he look like? What's his name? How'd they mee–"
"I-I don't know, MJ," I say.
"Oh, boo."
"How'd you find out?" Harry asks.
"Her brother brought it up on the ride today, but she didn't really seem all that happy about it. She didn't wanna talk about him."
"You know, now that I think about it..." MJ says. "I'm pretty sure I've seen her shoulder still wrapped whenever she wears something that doesn't really fully cover that area. Unless she recently met him, why would she keep it covered if she found him?"
"Maybe she doesn't like him?" I admit.
"But they're soulmates, they're bound together to be the best relationship for each other," MJ says.
"Which is bunch of bullshit, I think," Michelle casually says.
One can feel the eyeroll of Gwen. "You say that because you haven't met yours yet."
"Neither have you."
"Why don't we ask her?" Ned questions.
"That sounds like an awful idea," I say. "She was so annoyed talking about it, it's probably for the best not to bring it up."
"We can casually bring it up in conversation somehow," MJ says.
"Knowing you, it won't be casual," Gwen admits.
"Hey! I can be sneaky!"
"Oh, we all know that," Harry says.
"I thought we were ganging up on Peter not me!" she whines.
We all laugh.
