6.) Ice Cream
I have found my soulmate.
My soulmate is a superhero.
A decently famous superhero.
An easily known symbol.
A symbol which is forever on my back shoulder.
A soulmark that I will never be able to uncover for my safety. This brings me to wonder what his soulmark looks like.
"Holy crap, your soulmate is a superhero! That's so freakin' cool!" Dylan shouts.
My eyes tear up. "Dylan! You know how long I've planned and dreamed of not having to wrap my soulmark up anymore?! I can never dream or think of doing that now?! I'd be targeted. You'd be targeted. Everyone close to me would be a target because I'm some superhero's soulmate!" I don't realize how loud my voice gets.
Dylan winces back, digging a finger in his ear to stop the ringing. "Good point!" he shouts.
My eyes widen. "No! I'm sorry! I-I didn't mean to..."
"It's fine!" His ears finally pop and his hearing returns to normal. "But, think of all the good things too. You're both heroes, both have powers, can protect each other, and... both love the Avengers?"
I let out a chuckle. "Yeah, alright. But, I'm not a hero yet and this still sucks."
"Fair enough. How about we go out to celebrate you finding your soulmate as well as to make up for never being able to show it off?" Dylan suggests.
"Ice cream?"
"What else is there?" He types into his phone for the nearest ice cream place. "Alright, got a hit. We can walk there from here."
"Good cause I really didn't feel like driving."
We get ready to go and head on down the block to the ice cream shop.
"Almost there, we can take a shortcut this way and get there quicker," Dylan says, turning to an alley.
I quirk an eyebrow. "Dylan, we aren't going down some creepy dark alley just to get to the ice cream place quicker. We're likely to get jumped."
Dylan scoffs. "Mel, we're mutants. We can take some measly thugs. Besides, I'm bulletproof proof, so I'll just hide you behind me if they have guns or knives. I'll protect you. And look, there's nobody in there."
I give him an annoyed look before chuckling. "I'm the big sister. I'm supposed to do the protecting."
"Then lead the way," he teasingly bows, gesturing to the alley.
I roll my eyes. "We're not allowed to use our powers either, you know this." I enter the alleyway, not hearing anything.
Dylan follows behind. "Yeah, yeah."
We head through the alley and get to the ice cream place, ordering our favorite flavors.
"I can't believe they don't have brown sugar!" I complain, taking a lick of my other favorite flavor, coffee ice cream.
"That's why you gotta go for the basic flavors," Dylan grins.
"Yeah, vanilla whoopty doo," I roll my eyes.
"Hey, vanilla is simple and it's good. Don't @ me."
"You're a dork." I chuckle before sighing.
"Funny coming from you," he retorts with a smug smirk. "Anyway, I still can't believe he's your soulmate. Are you gonna tell him? Does he already know? Aren't soulmates both supposed to click at the same time?"
"I-I don't know to answer all your questions. I don't know."
"What are you gonna do? Do you feel a connection?"
"I guess I'll know when I get to know him better," I admit with a sigh. "We are soulmates, so I'm sure we'll get along great."
"What if this is like the first ever soulmate event where one clicks and the other doesn't? I've never heard of anything like this before."
"He certainly didn't seem to know," I say, continuing to eat in thought. "That would be crazy if it was."
We stay longer than we planned and night has fallen. So being in New York on our way home, of course we would be jumped by some thugs.
"Give us all your money and anything else that's worth it and we won't shoot you."
We're surrounded by 6 guys, 3 in front and 3 behind. Dylan moves to the front where the man with the gun is, keeping me behind him.
"How about no," Melody sighs. "I got better things to do then kick your ass. It's not a good idea to bother us. So, how about you let us go free, and we won't report you to the cops?"
"One more retort from either of you, and I shoot."
"Ooh, I'm so scared," Dylan voices with an eyeroll.
The man grins. "You think I'm kidding?"
"No, I'm sure you'd do it," Dylan answers with a shrug. "I just don't give a shit. Your loser ass doesn't scare me."
The man aims straight at Dylan. "Well, you asked for it." He shoots the gun.
Dylan moves his hand to where the bullet was aiming and catches it. He holds out his hand and drops the bullet to the ground with a smug grin. The bullet clinks and bounces on the ground, much to the surprise of every thug who watches it in shock.
"Now, you've pissed me off. That wasn't a good idea."
~~~Spidey's POV~~~
"You wouldn't believe it," I say, speaking on the phone through my mask to Ned. "When Melody saw me, she fell and scrambled away from me like she was truly frightened of me."
"Probably the mask."
"Dude."
"Wait, you said she heard you land on the roof?" Ned suddenly questions.
"Uh, yeah, she said she didn't recognize my footsteps," I answer, swinging down the street. "What does that have to do anything?"
"You don't find that weird?"
"Why would I find that weird? Everybody has their little quirks."
"Dude, when you're Spideying, you don't make any sounds. You're light on your feet."
I almost miss from grabbing my next web line. "That's a good point, but, again, what does that have to do with anything?"
"That might mean she has powers too!"
"Dude, you're being ridiculous. She might just have sensitive hearing."
Ned gasps. "What if she was bit by a spider too?! She could have the same senses as you! OMG! You guys could totally have super powerful spider babies!"
I can feel my face getting hot. "DUDE! Stop! Ned, she used to live in Colorado! I highly doubt she went on a field trip to an Oscorp lab and got bit by a spider. They were only researching the spiders here in New York."
"Alright, fine, but what about her singing? You said it was like you were hypnotized."
"Ned, you're being ridi–"
A gunshot cuts me off.
"Uh, dude?"
"Gotta go!" I reply. "Heard a gunshot!" Karen hangs up while I head in the direction of the gunshot.
A couple more gunshots go off. "What the hell?!"
"Ah, please, don't be late! Please don't be late!" I talk to myself, swinging into the alleyway, only to freeze at the sight before me.
Melody and a boy are standing high above 6 thugs that are knocked out in the alley.
"I told you to leave us alone and looked what happened to you," Melody scoffs, crossing her arms. She huffs then flinches, looking up at me. "Uh..."
"I... uh... heard... uh gunshots... are you two okay?"
"Fine," Melody retorts. "We took care of them."
The boy steps up. "Hi! I'm Dylan! I figure I should probably introduce myself. You've already met my sister Melody." He points back to her. "We're both big fans of heroes. It's nice to meet you."
Melody face palms. "Don't tell him my name!"
"Uh, yeah... What... What happened?"
"Well, these guys decided they wanted to jump us, but we handled them," Dylan answers.
"How?" I ask.
"Oh, we both train a lot in martial arts," Dylan answers.
"Dylan!" Melody huffs. "Spiderman doesn't need to know about our lives. He has more important things to do then talk with us."
"Oh, uh, right... I should get back to... patrolling. Yeah..." I give them a glance before thwipping out a web and swinging away. "Karen, report the thugs to the cops and call guy in the chair."
"Calling, Ned."
He picks up before it even rings. "Hello, everything good? You okay? You're not dying, are you? It probably would've been better to call Mr. Stark for that instead."
"Dude, you are not going to believe this."
~~~Melody's POV~~~
I sigh as I watch him swing away. "You have a big mouth, you know that?"
Dylan shrugs. "What? Should I of said that the thugs beat up each other?"
I roll my eyes. "Let's just get home."
