2.) Shopping
Mom was called in for work, leaving Dad to do all the unpacking while we left to get supplies for school.
"Alright, so what do you need?" I ask Dylan.
"A new bookbag," he replies. "My last one I accidentally ripped in half."
"I could use one too," I admit.
We scope out Walmart, grabbing whatever we need, including food.
"Oh, pens and pencils too," Dylan says. "I lost all mine."
We make it to the bookbags, and I immediately grab the one with an Avengers symbol on it.
Dylan just grabs a normal one.
I scoff. "Jeez, you're so boring."
"What, I'm just picking something cheap and simple."
I roll my eyes as we move to get other supplies.
"I wonder if there's anything special that we need for Midtown?" I wonder aloud.
"Midtown probably provides what we need," Dylan says.
"Did you say Midtown?" a random voice asks.
We turn to see an orange haired girl behind us, getting some pencils.
"Uh, yes," I reply.
"That's where I go to school!" she says, moving up to us. "What grade are you?"
"I'm a freshman," Dylan says.
"I'm a junior," I admit.
"I'm a junior too!" the girl squeaks. "Sorry, I'm Mary Jane Watson. My friends call me MJ."
"Dylan Tamber."
"Melody Tamber, it's nice to meet you."
"Likewise, how about I help the two of you?"
"That would be much appreciated," I nod. "Is there anything special we need to buy?"
"Midtown provides basically everything besides the obvious like notebooks and pencils. I would buy one of these TI graphing calculators for homework. Though, they are really expensive." She points at the large calculators hanging up on the shelves.
"We already have one of those luckily. Our dad is an architect, so he uses one every once in a while," Dylan says.
"That works out then," MJ says. "Then all that's left is notebook paper and a few binders."
"And we have all that at home," I nod. "Guess we're done then. Thanks, Mary Jane."
"Call me MJ," she responds. "We're friends now. How about I show you two around the school when you get there?"
"That'd be perfect," I nod.
"It's a deal," MJ smiles. "I'll meet you two at the office Monday then?"
"Perfect," I smile.
"Well, I got to go," MJ says, checking the time on her phone. "I'm helping my mom make dinner. I'll see you guys tomorrow!" She waves to us as she rushes off.
"She was pretty," Dylan admits.
"Was she your soulmate?" I question.
"No, I was just saying," Dylan says, turning to look at me.
"Yeah, she was," I agree. "Let's get some food for dinner. I'm feeling like making salmon. That sound good?"
"Yum."
After paying for everything, we return to my car to find a large blond haired male checking out my car. I unlock the car, making it beep and flash and scaring the boy. He turns to look at us.
"This your car?" he asks.
"Uh, yep," I respond, opening the trunk to put in our groceries.
"It's pretty. I like the flames."
"Uh, thanks."
"What year?"
"2012, I believe," I answer, placing the bags inside. "Bought it myself."
"My name's Flash. That's my car," he points to the parked car next to us. "2017 Audi."
"Cool," I nod, not really paying attention.
"What school you go to?" he asks, eyeing the both of us up and down.
"Midtown, starting tomorrow," Dylan decides to answer.
"Sweet, that's where I go!" he exclaims.
"Let me guess, you're a junior too?" I ask.
"Yeah, how'd you know?"
"Lucky guess," I respond, shutting the trunk.
He looks to my brother. "You're a strong looking guy. You gonna join the football team?"
I give Dylan a stern glance.
He notices but pretends he didn't. "I, uh, h-haven't decided if I want to or not."
"Well, if you do, I can help you get in if you like. I'm kinda the star football player for Midtown High," he gloats.
"That's cool," I reply, not really caring. "It was nice to meet you... Uh... Flash, was it? Maybe, we'll see you tomorrow in school. We need to go home. I'm making dinner for us tonight, so I should get to that."
"Ah, yeah! I needed to get some more protein for my morning smoothies," he responds, flexing his muscles.
"That's nice, we'll see you later!" I say, shoving my brother to the passenger seat. "Bye!"
We get in the car, and Dylan crosses his arms in a pout when I look at him.
"Don't look at me like that."
"You understand why I'm looking at you like this though, right?" I ask.
"Yeah."
"Good," I respond, turning to get the car on. "You can't play any sports. Remember what happened last time?"
"Yes!" he scoffs.
"It's hard enough to keep it from our parents but even harder to keep from the rest of the world," I continue. "I don't want to have to save your ass again."
"I get it!" he shouts at me, throwing his arms up. "I know, I've messed up before. I know, I don't have great control of my power like you do. I've grown though! I'm better now than I was back then! Just let me prove myself to you!"
I glance at him as I pull out of the parking lot. "Yes, I will admit you have grown. You are getting better at controlling your powers. If you really want to play football, I'm not going to stop you. But, the second you mess up, you're done. Got it?"
He grumbles cuss words he thinks I can't hear as he crosses his arms in a pout. "Fine."
"Good, now which way do you want me to cook the salmon? In wine or none?"
"It tastes better cooked in wine."
"I thought so too."
"Could we go look for a new place to train?" Dylan asks.
"I'm glad you asked," I admit. "I've done some research online, and I believe I have found the perfect place. It's an abandoned train station. No trains or anything goes through it. Plus, it's really close to home. Figured it could be our secret hideout."
"Well, let's go see it!"
