Seb finally decided to get a phone, and access to internet.
Samantha showed him all the steps he needed.
First he needed a phone, which he bought for a hundred and fifty thousand currency points in the local town electronic shop. There was a separate hidden section for students in the academy to buy old smart phones which didn't have an in built SIM card. They had a triving business out of it.
Next was to download an app which allowed access to networks.
"It's a bit is stealing," Samantha said as he laughed uncomfortably. "But just use it for the campus network."
Next was to be cautious.
"Don't download big files from the network at once. When you use it, they facility will think you are using your holo-watch. And it doesn't use much data. But the moment you watch too many videos or download a large file, they would know it's not from the holo-watch, and boom! You get caught."
"O-okay," Seb said as he looked at his phone under a hidden tree as Samantha messed with her own phone.
It seems more exhausting than Seb imagined.
"Good luck then!" Samantha waved and she left. The moment she left, Ivan appeared.
Samantha seemed to be a bit frightened of Ivan.
"What are you doing here?"
Seb showed his phone. He managed to gain access to a web browser.
Then he was at a loss.
What exactly was he hoping to use the internet connection for?
Some manga? A web novel?
A web novel it is.
Ivan frowned. "That girl seems quite knowledge about electronics."
"I think it's common knowledge here," Seb said.
"Be sure not to get caught."
After for many months of abstinence from the internet, Seb discovered they reaon why he was always bad learner at school.
He could never stop continuing a story.
Cataclysmic Adventures was an exception. He had to wait. The chapters and episodes were released slowly and with a time interval.
Others. Not so much.
In a week, Seb finished about ten web novels. He avoided webtoons and manga because they consumed alot of data.
Ivan was the first to notice. The first thing he did was to snatch the phone away.
"Hay!"
The phone disappeared from Ivan's hand in an instant.
"Concentrate," the boy growled in the middle of the lecture.
Seb gulped and turned back to the lecture. He started the habit of reason whenever he could, and he couldn't stop. Ivan didn't speak to him for the rest of the day.
In the end Seb had to bundle up all the courage he had and knock on Ivan's door.
"Uh... My phone?"
"No."
"It cost hundred and fifty thousand currency points!"
"It's safe," Ivan replied.
"You have a storage space?"
Ivan simply stared, with his arms crossed.
"I will concentrate in class, okay."
"You have two options. Either you control yourself or no more Cataclysmic Adventures."
"What?"
"Choose. Your whatever you are reading of your favourite show."
Seb had to choose his favourite show and that was the end of him reading online novels like a madman.
"Stop associating that girl too much," Ivan finally said one day, "She is a bad influence."
Seb couldn't help but frown. Samantha was not a bad Influence.
But he didn't have much strength to think about anything else with his year end examns coming up. The weather was getting colder, but it did stop the Arrivals from occuring. Also, his dreams seem to have gone worse.
Ivan once found Seb pointing Gilgamesh at him when he tried to wake up the boy when Seb slept in too much on a mission day. For the first time in Ivan's life, he felt pure hatred emitting from a person's eye, directed towards him.
"You!" Seb growled.
Ivan drew out Excalibur. The small dorm room was definitely not enough for a full blown fight.
"Sebastian. What is wrong with you?"
Seb yelled, as if he was in pain.
It was then did Ivan know.
"Sebastian! Wake up."
Seb finally blinked. His body lost strength as he fell down. Fortunately he could hold onto the bed. Gilgamesh disappeared as he stared at Ivan, confused.
"Ivan?"
"You were dreaming," Ivan said as he dematerialized Excalibur.
"No. It... It was real. You... You killed me."
Seb avoided Ivan for the rest of the day. They both silently fought some ogres soundlessly without a word. Seb was deep in thought throughout the day. Ivan, was at a lost. He thought that giving Seb space till he could calm himself was probably best for him.
But Seb didn't talk to him for three days.
"What's wrong with you and Seb," Jeremy asked on the evening of the third, "You both got along fine will a few days ago."
"He saw me kill him. At least, maybe someone similar to him," Ivan replied.
Jeremy didn't speak for a good while.
"Do you think you met... Before? I mean, your weapon owners."
Ivan took some time to think. He remembered snippets of his dreams. He knew Excalibur's previous owner was a prince. He had a friend, or was it an enemy, with a temperament quite similar to Seb. He thought it might be a coincidence. The dreams were confusing. At times the two were close, at times they were enemies. Ivan could only guess that one betrayed the other.
"We might have met. I don't know. I don't remember seeing Gilgamesh."
Jeremy hummed. "Try your best to forget your dreams. Sometimes... Sometimes you might confuse them with real life."
"That's impossible. They were two different world."
"But feelings are the same whichever world you go to. You might find yourselves believing that the some feelings.... Are your own, when in fact they are another's."
Ivan nodded, not taking the words to heart so much. He was not a person who felt too much.
Seb woke up from a nightmare again.
He could almost feel it.
The cold blade slipping into his chest. There was no pain. Just sheer horror and the knowledge that you are now reaching an end too soon. Then there was the face, with golden hair and tears dreaping down from sky blue eyes.
"It didn't need to come to this," the face said. It was such a familiar face. And the sword was pulled out.
Blood dripping down the blade of the sword, splattering on the cobblestoned ground.
Seb woke up with a jump. It was already seven. After washing up, the last thing he wanted to see was Ivan's face.
Sometimes, it was difficult to recognize between the dream and reality.
But the Moe he opened to door of his room, Ivan was there, standing as he prepared to go to class. They could do nothing not stare at each other.
Seb's dark circles around his eyes were obvious. A pang of guilt pierced Seb's chest, similar to the blade passing through his heart.
He knew that same person wasn't Ivan. He couldn't be Ivan.
"You look terrible," Ivan said. "Does that dream still bother you?"
Seb rubbed his face, trying to wipe the sleepyness off them. "I think I might need something to help me sleep."
Ivan nodded. "I will take you to the health center after class."
The medical officer of the health center wasn't of big help.
"I am sorry, but I really can't prescribe you any sleeping pills," The medical officer said.
"Why?" Seb asked. He yawned, hoping that he could fall asleep on the table in front.
"Sleeping pills are addictive. And you are so young. We give pills only as the last resort. Tell you what, try keeping a journal."
"Journal?" Ivan asked suspiciously from behind.
"Yes. Write down your dreams and your thoughts regarding it on a journal."
"Won't that make it worse?" Ivan asked.
"No," the medical officer replied. "It will be an outlet. Obviously the dream has caused some sort of a mental trauma to you, making you confused about what reality is. Writing it down, let's say gices you an outlet to let off some steam. You want to be obviously talk about it, but don't want to right?"
Seb nodded slowly.
"I can recommend the counceller, but writing it down is the same. Only without any feedback. That way, you can analysis your thoughts while you write it down. This will help you to be aware of what is going on."
Seb and Ivan looked at each other.
"Come back if it doesn't work. Also try maintaining a constant sleeping schedule, and avoid screen time before bed. But since this is a nightmare problem, we will stick to this. Your next stop is the counceller, though."
Seb left the medical center quite disappointed.
"Are you going to try it?" Ivan asked.
Seb shrugged. He was done with the days schedule and wanted to fall asleep.
"I... Will catch some sleep. Thanks."
"Wait," Ivan said.
Seb looked over his shoulder. "What?"
"You said... You saw me kill you. Right?"
"It wasn't you... It was someone who looked like you."
"A prince?"
There was silence. Deep silence. Seb felt blood drain from his face. Ivan always had a feeling that the person whom Seb saw might be the person whom he saw in his dreams.
"You... Saw it?"
"I didn't see what you are seeing," Ivan said.
Seb looked away.
"We aren't the same people you know. They are just the previous owners from whatever world they are from."
Ivan was right, Seb told himself. They were not the same. He was not the same. His brain was screaming at him to think logically. But deep inside, something was tugging the depths of his mind, spreading fear like frost in the crevices of his consciousness.
That night, Seb couldn't fall asleep.
He took out an empty notebook from his table, sat on the table with a pen and stared.
We wanted to write.
What was he going to write?
In the end, Seb found himself writing down what he knew about the previous owner of Gilgamesh.
He was a gloomy person. Male. Young. Pessimistic. Sceptic about everyone around him. A mercenary or hired guard. He had a friend. A prince.
They were... Close.
Then the prince killed him.
Why?
Did he betray the prince? Did the prince betray him?
There was a war.
They were fighting on the same side.
What went wrong?
The more Seb figured out the timeline of his dreams, the more he grew curious.
Something happened.
He wanted to know what happened. And the only way to know was to fall asleep.
Another update!!!
Hooe you enjoy it.
Love,
Angelina Colbe.
