Chapter 1
It had been a few months since Kari broke the barrier and freed the monsters from the underground. Kitearo had been working nonstop to see what he could do to have the monsters accepted into society the way he said. The few monsters that did come to the surface lived in their own temporary homes at the edge of town. Kitearo, the twins, and Kari all lived with Toriel in a two story, five bedroom, four bath house. They also had an office and a large, open kitchen with an island that separated it from the living room and dining room, which seemed like one big room.
Flo lived nearby with Grillby in a fireproof, three bedroom, three bath single story house. They also had a basement and a medium-sized kitchen that was not opened up, so it was considered separate from the living room and dining room, which also seemed to be one room.
Mettaton and Napstablook shared a two story, four bedroom, three and a half bath, house with Alphys and Undyne. They also had a basement and medium kitchen like Flo and Grillby did except their living room and dining room were separate rooms. The skeleton brothers lived in a home that was similar to theirs in Snowdin.
Toriel was the first to wake up out of everyone in the house. She went downstairs and began making breakfast for her four adopted children. Kitearo was next to wake up. He came out of his room with a yawn and stretch while wearing loose-fitting black pajama bottoms and a white tank top.
"Morning, mother." He said while taking a seat at the rectangular oak wood table that was able to sit about ten people.
"Good morning Kitearo. How did you sleep?" Toriel smiled kindly at the teen while flipping a pancake.
"Uuuuuuugggggghhh...." Kitearo flopped his head on the table. " So much paperwork... I didn't even know I fell asleep..." Kitearo sighed.
"Well, maybe some pancakes will help you out." Toriel smiled. Kitearo looked up.
"What kind of pancakes?"
"Chocolate chip." Toriel chuckled lightly as she saw Kitearo sit up with a wide smile. "Kari asked if I could make some for breakfast since it's the first day of school for you all. It is also the first day of work for me." Kitearo gasped.
"You got the job?!" He called out then a door slammed shut. Two blurs rushed down the stairs, black and blue in color, and skidded to a stop next to Toriel to reveal the twins in matching black and blue stripped pajamas.
"You're gonna teach at a school?!" Boom asked with wide eyes and Toriel nodded with a wide smile. The twins laughed and hugged Toriel happily, then rushed to sit in their seats. Toriel smiled lightly at their reaction then glanced over at the stairs.
"Kite, do you mind going to wake up Kari?" Toriel asked kindly and Kitearo nodded then stood up and walked up stairs.
"Kari, up and at 'em!" Kitearo called while knocking on the door to the youngest's room.
Kari let out a moan. "Nooooo..." Kitearo sighed at this.
"Don't make me come in there." Kitearo heard shuffling then noticed the door knob swivel a little bit.
"... Jerk..." Kari yawned while rubbing her right eye and holding Chase in her left hand. She was wearing a black and gold striped tank top with matching pajama shorts and her silver ninja scarf that still dragged on the ground, she never took it off. Kitearo just smiled proudly and the two went downstairs and sat down just in time for breakfast. After they ate, the four kids rushed upstairs and got ready for their first day of school, then went out front to see Sans and Papyrus waiting for them. Toriel had to leave a little earlier because she was to teach at an elementary school, and none of them attended elementary school. Kari gasped happily and ran up to them, hugging the two close.
"'Sup, kid." Sans greeted while hugging Kari back.
"Good to see you up so early Kari." Papyrus laughed and joined in the group hug. The group walked to school, Kitearo working on his duties on the tablet that Kari conjured up for him while they walked. First, they dropped Kari and the twins off, since they all showed middle school knowledge. Then finally Kitearo, who went to the high school only five miles away.
The group got weird looks from other people while arriving at the middle school school. The four kids glared at anyone who insulted any of the others present in the group. The three were then dropped off and went to class while Kitearo walked with Sans and Papyrus to his school.
"Okay... So first I have Algebra then history and third I have..." Kari whispered among herself while reading her schedule. Boom and Beats were glancing over each other's schedules to see what classes they had together.
The day went on and soon it was lunch time. Kari and the twins sat with each other and ate happily, many of the kids staring at them. Soon a buzz went off from Kari's pocket. It was her cellphone. Kari swallowed the bite of food that was in her mouth then answered the call.
"Hello? This is Kari." The twins snickered lightly and how Kari answered the phone.
"H-hey Kari, it's A-alphys. H-how's school?"
"Good." Kari smiled.
"G-good. Listen, y-you mind coming to my h-house when you have a s-sec?" Alphys asked and Kari nodded.
"Sure, I'll let Sans and Paps know since they are picking us up after school. Go-ma won't be home till late so they're watching us till then." Kari replied.
"A-alright, I'll s-s-see you later then." Kari hung up the call and finished her lunch. The twins looked at Kari and spoke in unison.
"Who was that?"
Kari glanced up at them. "Alphys. She said she wanted to meet up with me at her place after school." The girl said with a shrug. After lunch Kari and the twins went to their own classes.
"Hey! If it isn't little snow-freak!" A voice called from behind Kari. The girl turned around to see a bulky teen boy with dark brown hair and grass green eyes. "How've you been short-shit?" Kari growled and the boy shivered mockingly. "Aw look! She's mad! I'm shiverin' in my boots! Oh, wait!" The boy chuckled and Kari turned to leave, but a boy with black hair and navy blue eyes and a girl with auburn hair and chocolate brown eyes stopped her. "Hey, what's the hold up? Can't we catch up for ol' times sake? Haven't seen ya in a couple of years. There're a lot of beatings I've been dying to share with ya." The boy smirked and punched Kari in the left eye. "Man, that feels good. Even better cuz I know you won't fight back! Hah! You're so weak!" The three laughed in unison and began to beat Kari. Punching her in the stomach and the face, then kicking her in the sides, arms, and legs once she was down.
After the massive beatdown Kari limped to class. Her nose was broken and bleeding while her left eye was swollen shut and bruises covered her body. Everyone stared at Kari wide eyed when she staggered to her seat as if she was a ghost. When school finally ended, Kari looked like a wreck and the twins looked like they had been through less, but still a lot.
"Bullies?" Beats asked Kari while they waited for Sans and Papyrus to walk up. Kari nodded in reply since it hurt to talk at the moment. The teen with the brown hair walked up with his group and noticed Kari. He smacked her head hard and laughed. Each member of his group did the same while laughing, then walked on. Kari just growled lightly while holding in a hurricane of anger. A couple minutes later Papyrus and Sans walked up with wide smiles.
"Hey gu-- Oh my god!" Papyrus gasped in shock while Sans stared with wide eyes. "What happened to you three?"
"Bullies." The three answered Papyrus in unison. Sans's left eye began to glow lightly as his anger grew.
"Who did this to you three?" He asked with a growl. The three exchanged glances then shrugged.
"I dunno." They replied and Sans sighed, his smile growing bitter.
"Oh," Kari began. "Alphys called me during lunch today. She said she wanted to meet up with me at her place. Can we go there for a bit?" Kari asked with a numb smile, changing the subject.
Sans's eye stopped glowing and he sighed. "Let's... Let's get Kite and clean ya up first, alright?" Sans sounded a little troubled."Geez, Tori's gonna have someone's head..." Sans murmured to himself. Kari nodded. The five went and picked up Kitearo, who was also beaten badly, then went home. Sans and Papyrus patched up the kids' wounds, then Sans went with Kari to see Alphys. Once at the front door Sans rung the doorbell. There was shuffling and clattering for a moment then the door opened to show Undyne.
"Hey Sans, 'sup Ka-- WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!" Undyne called in shock. "WHO DO I NEED TO FIGHT?! I'LL KILL ANYONE WHO---"
"Relax, I'm fine." Kari chuckled lightly with a hint of pain. The two were let in and led to the basement, where Alphys did her lab work for the time being.
"Alphys! Kari and Sans are here." Undyne called then went back upstairs. Alphys glanced at the two and waved.
"H-h-hey guys." She called, then stopped what she was working on and turned towards the two so they had her full attention. The scientist's eyes widened when she saw Kari. She opened her mouth to speak, but Kari spoke before she could.
"I'm okay!" Kari spoke quickly, as if hyped on sugar. Alphys closed her mouth and sighed.
"W-well alright. Follow me." Alphys led the two towards a large metal cabinet that had different gadgets and machines. Alphys scanned over the machines and then smiled."Ah-ha!" She called then grabbed four spiked cuffs and a watch-looking device. She handed them to Kari. The spiked cuffs were a navy blue color with five silver-colored spikes, each with dim neon blue lines that zig-zagged up similarly to a circuit board and a small version of Kari's symbol on it. The watch was a jet black square with rounded corners, and had a dim green screen because it was off. The watch also had weird gold buttons on it. Kari put the cuffs on, one on each wrist and ankle, then put the watch a little above the left cuff.
"What are those for Alph?" Sans asked, not sure how to handle his.
"W-well. The watch there is like a small computer, almost. It can project holograms, make calls, download data, map out the surrounding areas and much more. Those cuffs there--" Kari pressed the waning crescent moon symbol on the right cuff, which turned out to be a button. The five spikes un-hooked from the cuff to show durable yet thin chains that were steel in color and had neon blue lines like the spikes had. The spikes were hollow and four of them hooked around Kari's fingers while the fifth hit the wall then hit ricocheted and hit Kari's for head with the dull edge. Sans went wide eyed and jolted in shock while Kari shook it off and the spike hooked around her free finger. The neon blue lines began to glow slightly. "Th-they're weapons... I-in case Kari runs out of energy to use her abilities. The chains are a thin, lightweight yet durable metal and can help with long ranged attacks as well as other things while also covering hand to hand combat if those claw-spikes are hooked around her fingers and toes." Kari nodded happily.
"Just what I asked for. Thanks Alphys." The girl smiled widely like a dork. Sans just stared in confusion.
"Wait, you asked for these? When?" Sans was curious. Kari looked over to Sans while retracting the claw-spikes on her right hand. They did not go in the correct spot the first time, so Kari had to do it a few times in order to get it right.
"Well, I asked her after we all got our houses. I need these in order to save the other half monsters. They will make it easier for us to save them all." Kari sighed as she finally got the claw-spikes in their correct places. Sans's smile grew a little concerned. "Sans, I'll be okay." Kari said reassuringly to the skeleton. "... If I don't do this then... They might die." The child frowned. "... I'll leave this weekend with Flo, Boom, Beats, and Kite. We will go to one of the labs and be back in time to go to school." Kari sighed. "... Maybe." The girl shrugged. "I won't be gone forever. I promise." Sans sighed.
"Does Tori know about this?" Sans asked.
"Nope." Kari replied. "She'll just try and stop me. I know she would do something like that." Kari turned to Alphys. "Thank you for making these. I'll put them to good use." Kari smiled widely then turned to leave, Sans close behind. The two walked back to the Dreemurr household and went inside to see the twins sitting on the couch playing a videogame and Papyrus making spaghetti for dinner. Kitearo was upstairs in the office working on paperwork and looking for loopholes so that the rest of the monsters could come to the surface. Kari went and sat down with the twins while Sans stretched and sat on the recliner to the left of the couch.
Time passed and Toriel arrived happily after everyone had eaten. When she saw how beaten the four kids looked she gasped in horror.
"Who did this?" She asked sadly. the four kids exchanged glances then looked at Toriel and spoke in unison.
"Bullies."
Toriel frowned and pulled the four into a hug. "I am sorry I was not there."
"It's okay Go-ma." Kari said while patting Toriel's back. "I... I've been through worse."
"Same." Beats said.
"Ditto." Boom chuckled lightly.
"Me too. Flo as well." Kitearo stated. Toriel healed the four so they looked as good as new, then looked at the skeleton brothers, who were nearby, watching with slightly sad expressions.
"Thank you for watching them while I finished up work and for patching them up until I got back." Toriel smiled lightly.
"No problem, Tori." Sans's smile widened a little bit.
"It was no trouble at all, your highness." Papyrus smiled. "I, the great Papyrus, am always happy to help." The taller skeleton brother posed triumphantly. The twins chuckled and did the same pose while standing on either side of Papyrus.
The skeleton brothers soon left after giving the kids a hug and telling them good night. The four then got ready for bed, taking their baths and putting on their pajamas, and went to sleep.
