Chapter Six
^Picture of Jade^
Jaxson lunged at the horrible June holding his childhood friend. Jade. He went for her hands and pulled them up and away from Ashley no problem. Ashley followed his lead and elbowed her in the stomach before ducking away.
Avery had pushed the girls trying to follow Jaxson back a few feet and they let off a bit understanding they were not as strong as him without any weapons, which they did not have yet. They were illegal in the city.
Focused back on the three in front of him, Avery picked Ashely up in one sweep, she wasn't that heavy. He held her bridal style to protect her wound and then he yelled to Jaxson who had Jade in a restraint hold. "Come on Jax, I got her, we need to leave, now." He said getting out of the alley.
Jaxson nodded and then gave his final words to Jade, "if you ever hurt Ash again, you won't get let off this easy."
He then released her and slammed through the girls in front of him back out of the alley where he saw Avery holding Ashley. They both looked at her and the blood she was holding with her hand. They could hear Jade yelling something still from in the alley and so they began to hurriedly walk away side by side. Ashley's shirt was ripped to her ribs and the hole from the stab seemed deep, but not deep enough to kill her if they took care of it fast enough.
"Your folks home at this hour?" Avery asked Jaxson finally looking up from Ashley.
"No, they work until late on weekdays." Jaxson answered looking up too.
"Okay, do you think we could go there to wrap this up, I have money so one of us can get stuff from the mart on the way." Avery said nodding to his pocket.
"Yeah, that will work, and her mom knows me well so I'll bring her home after. My place is in section G number 216, I'll leave it unlocked for you. While you get the stuff I'll clean the wound up, then we can puts the meds and wrap on it. We also might have to laser it, but I got that at home already so that's all good." Jaxson said reaching for Ashley.
"Okay, sounds good, I'll meet you there." Avery said handing her off to Jaxson and walking in the direction of the store.
Jaxson looked down at Ashley and then saw her bandana and remembered something.
"Hey! Avery, take this. People know where I live and I can't let them think I let a crystal in, and it's sunny out today so buy some sunglasses to help with the eyes." Jaxson said giving Avery his bandana.
"Oh yeah, thanks. Okay see you in a few." Avery said wrapping the bandana on his wrist, covering his stone.
"Yep, remember 216." Jaxson said turning in the other direction toward his house.
Avery said something back and then they split. Jaxson looked down at Ashley who had been quiet the entire time.
"You okay?" Jaxson asked.
"Yeah, totally. I'm bleeding a bunch from a stab wound right now, and the worst part is I didn't save myself. I couldn't. Instead I had to rely on you and Avery to get me out of the situation I was in. What if next time you can't get to me in time? What if no one can? I get myself in these situations by going against the rules, but I never have a plan for when I face the consequences. It makes me mad and scares me at the same time." Ashley says with an angry look on her face while she keeps contemplating the things she just said.
Jaxson was silent for a moment. He knew Ashley, she wasn't the girl with a plan all the time, but she did have plans. She wasn't the girl with a lot of courage, but she had enough to help others in need. She wasn't the smartest girl he knew, but she had a good head on her shoulders. She wasn't even the prettiest girl, but she had one of the most beautiful personalities. Why had he gotten so attached to such a girl as this? Then he found his voice again.
"You do look pretty rough right now, especially with all that blood. It is almost pitiful that I have to carry you, but it isn't. You want to be able to always save yourself? That isn't realistic Ash. Everyone needs someone to save them at some point in their life. Now that someone has saved you though, you now know what you need to prepare for so that maybe next time you will be the one saving the day. You need to start training and getting stronger for this life style. I'll even help, and I'm sure Avery will too. The way we live isn't wrong, it's just against the rules and for that we have to be stronger than the rule holders. So, Ash, don't beat yourself up over this, instead learn from that battle scar and prepare for the next battle to come." He finished right as they got to his front door.
"Wow" she said kind of astonished, "that was actually really deep." She finished smiling up teasingly.
"Yeah, don't expect that too often." He replied chuckling down at her.
He gently set her up on to her feet still holding her shoulders when she gently touched his arm and looked up at him. "Thank you Jax." She said softly before turning back to the door. And then they walked inside, never again to bring up that conversation even though it imprinted on both of their hearts that day.
"The way we live isn't wrong, it is just against the rules." ~Jaxson
