Chapter Four
Ashley and Jaxson checked in and out of the office with no problems at all. After this they left the school and begin walking down the sidewalk together.
"So, are we going to see go see him again?" Jaxson said looking down before looking up at Ashley.
"Probably, I haven't been able to for a few days since we got ice cream last time, and went to practice football the time before that." Ashley replies lightly.
"You got the bandanas?" Jaxson asks thinking slightly about the consequences they could face for doing this.
"Yep, two red." Ashley says pulling them out of her bag.
"You know I really don't understand how they aren't suspicious considering you always have us wear RED which just so happen to be the same color as the Birthstone we are covering up." Jaxson says with a smile. "I just think it's ironic." He finishes with a shrug.
"Oh shush, it's just a bandana color, no one cares." Ashley says rolling her eyes.
After this the two grew silent while covering up their stone with bandanas. The silence proceed between them, one holding a stubborn yet anxious spirit, while the other a fearful yet accepting one. They walked to one of the only other schools in their big city. There were a total of fifty schools in the entire world and their city had three, most cities beg for one. All the world is ran by the same president, same government, all living in the same fear and anxiety under what was at one point made to keep everyone safe. Throughout the different cities the rules are the same, throughout the small areas of countryside the rules are the same. An expectation is held by the government, or president, and that is that every citizen of planet Earth of any form or kind should follow every rule, unconditionally and without thought. Ashley hates that, mostly for the fact that she saw the stones differently than the government, or even the world did. She didn't see them as dividers for humanity, she saw them as connectors for family.
They finally arrived to the other school's grounds, West Rim. The sports teams here call themselves West High Rims and are the highest competitors for their school East Rim in which the sports teams go by the East Rimmers. Even with the schools' competitive nature though, same colors from any area can associate, which is why Ashley was friends with people from West Rim too.
A boy started walking out of school, as their final bells rang, surrounded by peers of his color, catching admiration from all around including other colors who tried very hard to hide the look of awe covering their star struck eyes and flustered faces. This boy had been talking until he saw Ashley then stopped mid sentence and smiled. He quickly ended the talk and got out of the herd, then ran up to Ashley and Jaxson.
"Ashley, man it feels like it's been a while, how are you?" The boy says looking at her as if inspecting for something while also enjoying her new found company all at once.
"Hi Avery! I'm good, how have you been?" Ashley answers with a smile and shrug to her friend.
"I've been pretty good, you know all the games and practices for Basketball, Football, Baseball and Soccer keep me busy every time of the year every day even on off seasons just cause I like to practice." He answers with a chuckle with his hand on his head.
Ashley chuckled, he was a dork that she loved, not particularly as a romantic way, but as a friend, and she couldn't help but smile at his presence with her. "Sounds like you." She replies with a shy smile back.
Jaxson saw Ashley's eyes to Avery and decided to intervene now. "Sup loser." Jaxson said with a nod to Avery as he stepped forward.
"Oh look who it is, my loser from East, ready to get beat in Saturday's game?" Avery says with both hands behind his head smiling to Jaxson.
"Eh, I think the real question is, are you ready to get your pride crushed this Saturday?" Jaxson says with a smirk.
"We'll see." Avery said smirking back while holding eye contact. "Yes we will." Jaxson replies holding his eye contact too.
The two stared at each other for a few more seconds before they realized Ashley was being quite and turned to look at her. The issue was, she wasn't there anymore.
"Where did she go?" Avery asked looking around him in a circle.
"I, I don't know." Jaxson answered searching beside him.
Avery's crystal white eyes were bouncing around all the different people around him leaving and talking on the schools ground, he was searching for the one to stand out, the one with the red bandana on her wrist to match her ruby red eyes...
"Wait, oh no." Avery says stopping dead in his tracks.
"What? Where is she?" Jaxson asks thinking Avery had found her.
"They, they took her, we got to get her, they took her, your, your eyes stupid!, they took her." Avery said picking up into a run through people as Jaxson rushed to keep up realizing that Avery KNEW and that him and Ashley forgot to put in contacts or wear sunglasses on the way here, all while he started to panic at what Avery meant about Ashley.
They ran till finally Avery stopped dead in his tracks holding the gaze of the monsters holding Ashley.
