My heart has changed in many ways

Over many years

First I didn't know I had one

All I knew where tears

Then a few years later

When I was still naive

My hearts began to look around

And didn't want to leave

Later in my younger life

I was innocent and pure

But my heart yearned for something more

Love is such a disappointing lure

I played around and flirted

But it all was just a game

I didn't know what true love was

And I was sure he felt the same

Soon I started to seek and see

That there is more to this world

That there are many bad people around

Who have old hearts that have torn

My heart was merely a feather

To be tossed and bounced around

But it held up through the darkest of nights

Barely making a sound

It was finally getting used 

To things that passed on by

But soon my heart fell into darkness

Giving a lonely cry

And it stayed that way for quite a while

But I made it around the bend

I survived the darkness

Survived the changes

And swore to my heart

It would never change again
