Cigarettes and Drama

"Romeo, where art thou Romeo?" Julia called out, as she wandered around in an imaginary forest.

Abe jumped onto the stage, and started reciting his lines. They were doing that balcony scene. I was paying attention I swear, until Alex, came up behind me and tapped my shoulder.

"Hey man, you're not in this scene right?"

"Nope."

"Oh good. I was just wondering what was up?" He asked, standing next to me, it was then I noticed I was a good three inches taller.

"Oh uh, nothing much really." Nothing much besides Julia Woods helped beat you up a few day ago, and practically shattered any previous conception I ever had of her.

Alex grinned again. "That's what I like about you Micah, you don't talk all that much, but just looking at you is like opening a book to a completely random page."

I looked over at him. "What does that even mean?"

"I don't know, but it makes sense in my head." He added a thumbs up to his answer, I noticed something sparkling in his ear lobe.

"Did you get your ears pierced?" I blinked.

His face lit up. "Oh yeah! I mean I got them pierced like years ago but these are new earrings, they're pink, yellow and blue because those are the colors of the, whoa hey, look at Arthur."

He point to the other side of the stage, where Arthur was pacing back and forth, looking kinda angry. HIs fists were balled and he seemed to be mumbling to himself.

"He's either really getting into character or something's wrong. We should probably go check on him." Alex suggested.

Ugh, I didn't like him, but I was going to anyway because I'm a good person. "Yeah."

We went around the back to stage left, there's a little crawl space you can walk though. We popped out the other side and startled Arthur from his fitful trance.

"Alex, and Micah...what are you two doing? This isn't your side of the stage." He said sounding kinda like Alexander Hamilton in We Know.

("Mr. Vice President, Mr. Madison, Senator Burr...what is this?")

"You okay? You look distressed." Alex asked, rather bluntly.

Arthur frowned bitterly. "I'm fine, it's not really any of your business."

I wondered if I could ask him about Greg being Julia's soulmate. Probably not now because, even if he said it he obviously wasn't fine. I felt a little sorry for him.

Alex observed the situation for a bit. "That's fine if you don't want to tell us, but if you need anything we'll always be here for you bro."

He gave Arthur a quick pat on the back, and turned around to leave. I waved awkwardly and turned around to join Alex when I found he had stopped suddenly inside the crawl space.

"What is it?" I asked, peering over his shoulder to see he was holding his hand and looking at it weirdly.

He blinked at me. "Nothing, come on, I think your part is coming up."

"There you are Micah!" Julia greeted me. "Come on up on stage, it's time for you to shine."

She sung out the last part, and probably gave a good old heart attack of adorable. Asdfghjkl. I grabbed my script and prepared myself to become Friar Lawrence.

After my part was over, I ran to make a quick bathroom break, where I walked outside to discover no other the Gregory Smith leaning on the door back inside the auditorium building. He had a cigarette in his mouth, and he blew smoke in my direction as I approached.

I expected myself to be just as brave as I was the last I had to deal with him, but this time I started to feel my hands shake when I saw the annoyed expression on his face.

"Where's your boyfriend, Halabi?" Greg taunted. "If hanging around here looking for another licking? Has he started minding his own business?"

I figured he was referring to Alex, so I ignored it and tried to open the door. "I have a name you know."

"And I'm using it." He said, and promptly stood right in front of me. "How much of our bathroom discourse did you hear?"

"Enough to know I don't need to beat other people up to feel more secure about my fragile masculinity." I snapped back.

Greg's eyes widened. "Shut up, you don't know what you're talking about."

For a second I couldn't believe what I had done. I had made Greg feel uncomfortable. It was unnatural seeing him like this.

"Please move." I asked, trying to push him out of the way, the motion seemed to send a rush through me, I still couldn't believe I was standing up to Greg.

"Make me." He growled.

"I think you should move." A new voice spoke up, behind me spoke up.

I glanced over to see it was Abe, who towered above us both threateningly. Greg eyes him warily.

"One day I'll get you Halabi, then your friends won't be able to save you." He threatened as he stalked off.

"I don't like him." Abe said plainly, opening the door for me.

"Yeah same." I agreed.

Abe promptly chauffeured me back to the man group. Practice was over now and everyone was chatting happily. Julia spotted me and Abe walking up to them and smiles warmly.

"Hey you two, we were just finishing up, what held you?"

"Greg was waiting to pounce on Micah when he came back." Abe explained plainly.

Julia frowned. "Ugh, why does he do that?"

I stared at her and wondered if she was lying to our faces right now. I didn't want to believe she was. Maybe she was actually distressed that Greg had tried to do that. Maybe she cared about me. Or of course maybe she only cared about Greg and was lying to our faces.

"Are you okay?" She asked, it sounded so sincere, that I had a really hard time believing she had ill intentions.

"Oh y-yeah." I squeaked. "I'm fine thanks for asking."

"Are you two doing anything this weekend?" Abe questioned, cool as a cucumber.

"I'm busy, sorry." Julia smiled.

"Um, I don't think I am." I replied, wondering where this was going.

Was he inviting me somewhere? Goodness. I don't know if I was ready for that. Was I even cool enough to hand out with Abe?

"My parents are going out of town and I was thinking about throwing a party." Abe shrugged. "I'm inviting all of you guys."

"Oh cool. Uh I don't think I'll be able to come." I politely declined, I wasn't really into parties, like at all. I was irrationally scared of having a Micah in the Bathroom moment.

"That's cool, if you two change you mind you can just show up if you want." He shrugged.

One day I hope to be as cool as Abe Barton.
