Take Your Best Shot
Another day hiking up the damn mountain, another day of being late. It was like she was never on time. Her red jacket flapped in the slight breeze that carried through. She fiddled with her yellow bow as she finally reached the campus.
It's been a few days since the octopus thing started to teach, and it pissed her off that he would scold her like a child every time she was late.
Music was blasting in her ears as she made her way inside, wondering what she'd find today.
Sliding the classroom door open she saw everyone collecting rounds of ammunition. Probably went with a full scale attack. It didn't seem to go so well because the octopus teacher was still intact.
The students didn't bat an eye at Tomori's late presence. They were used to it. The octopus however appeared in front of her, going supersonic.
Tomori's earbuds were ripped out and they appeared in the creature's tentacles. Her iPod dangling by the cord. A dark purple 'X' adorned his purple face. "Otosaka Tomori a tardy for you young lady."
Tomori's blue eyes flashed dangerously as she snatched her iPod and earbuds out of it's tentacles. "Shut up. You don't think I know that." She spat.
Tomori looked over her device to make sure it wasn't in the least bit damaged. She gave a sigh of relief when she saw it wasn't. She made her way to her seat and sat down. Her day already ruined ten-fold.
The octopus turned his attention back towards the class as he started monologuing. "As was explained, this are Anti-Me BBs, harmless to you. But," He took a pause in his speech to shoot off one of his tentacles. The rest of the class let out squeals of shock. Tomori just looked on bored, she had no interest in killing the thing. "Able to split my cells like a knife through warm tofu. Developed by your government for that express purpose."
Tomori's eyes drifted to the appendage flopping uselessly on the ground. As the octopus continued speaking, she tuned it out to walk to the front. Nobody's eyes were on her as she crouched down and poked the thing.
Slimy.
The only thing Tomori heard was, "And good luck killing me before graduation, you're going to need it." The creature singsonged. "Firearms and government anti issue me BBs away please. Time to work."
Tomori sighed as she walked back to her seat and heard other people groaning.
...
Tomori leaned her head on her hands, tiredly facing the board. Grammar was such a bore, it wasn't like anyone in E-Class was going to need to use it for anything.
The girl let out a yawn, twirling her purple gel pen in her fingers. Her notebook was completely blank as the octopus questioned different students.
She already knew one type of grammar, Korean. Japanese and English grammar were fucking hard enough with her being a foreigner.
Tomori's blue eyes shifted to outside. Out in the sky was the crescent moon, the very same one that the freaking octopus destroyed. The girl scoffed under her breath, and jumped slightly when she heard a bang.
"Nakamura." The blonde was in a standing position after firing a bullet. "I distinctly remember saying no guns discharging in the classroom." Rio sheepishly rubbed her head. The octopus then sentenced her to the back of the room, telling her to reflect on her actions.
Tomori rolled her eyes, Rio wasn't a child. She probably wouldn't learn from it. Plus, they were assassins, they weren't exactly supposed to play fair. What other reason would they be in E-Class for.
Wordlessly, Tomori pulled out her iPod, and slipped her earbuds in. Pressing the shuffle button on the playlist labeled, 'School Snoozing' she heard a song called, Spring Day.
She placed her head on the desk, closing her eyes to take a nap. The soft music lulling the girl into dreamland.
The next moment she was being awakened by someone. "What the fuck do you want?" Tomori asked groggily as she picked her head off the desk. She pulled out her earbuds, turning off her iPod.
She looked up to see her only two friends in the class looking down at her. "Rinka, Chiba. What's up?"
"The octopus left, it's time for lunch." Chiba responded, playing with his bangs. "Ready to head up to the roof?"
Tomori hummed as she stood up. The trio had found a ladder hidden on the campus, so they used it to get up to the roof. It was very peaceful, nobody to bother them at all. The girl, stood up and followed the pair to their ladder.
Grunting, Tomori and Chiba hauled the tool to an upright position. Chiba climbed the ladder first, followed by Rinka then finally Tomori.
They took out their lunch boxes, staring at the forest. Tomori took out chopsticks and slurped on her ramen, kept warm in a thermos. Both Chiba and Rinka having sushi. "What do you two think of the octopus?" Tomori asked after a minute.
Rinka stared into the forest. "He's something alright." She replied.
"Too bad we get our grades up for the world to end." Chiba muttered poking at his sushi. "But, given the time we have, I'd say it's highly likely for us to kill him."
Tomori hummed, toying with the noodles sitting in her thermos. "I don't like him." Rinka and Chiba glanced at the girl in question.
"Is it because he took your earbuds and iPod?" Rinka asked softly, not wanting to upset the girl.
Tomori closed her eyes letting out a sigh. She gave a brief nod before speaking. "You know what they mean to me. If he damaged them... I might've done something I would have regretted." She opened her eyes to face the sky. "It's the only thing that keeps the fucking ticking out of my head. Practically the only the that keeps me sane."
Her eyes shifted to her two friends, who were looking at her concerned. They knew a secret about her, something that was a part of her. It really showed how much she trusted the pair. She pressed a hand to her chest.
Rinka put a hand on Tomori's shoulder. "Is it getting worse?" She asked concerned. Tomori managed to nod her head, her voice stuck in her throat. A light smiled graced Rinka's lips, "We will still be here. Just know that in your heart." Chiba let out a nod, agreeing with the pink haired girl.
They finished their lunch in silence, hearing the soft chime of the bell. "Time for class." Chiba said climbing down the ladder first.
Rinka called down, "We'll put the ladder away." Chiba nodded jogging to class. He really didn't need to see up their skirts climbing down the ladder.
Tomori climbed down first mumbling, "I swear I'm going to wear pants tomorrow. Skirts are freaking unpractical."
Rinka let out a light laugh, "Don't you always say that?" She asked climbing down as well.
"Think time I actually mean it though." She said grunting as the two girls set the ladder down. Rinka grabbed Tomori's hand as they walked to class. The pink haired girl squeezed Tomori's hand in support as she moved to her seat behind Okuda.
Everyone was seated by the time that the octopus came into the classroom. The ticking in Tomori's ears was growing steadily louder and she winced, rubbing them. Popping her earbuds in she started playing a song called Piri from a group called Dreamcatcher.
The octopus wrote on the board and Tomori kicked her legs up on the desk. Peering at the board she saw that she had to write a short poem using the phrase... Tomori's thoughts trailed off. Was the fucking octopus giving himself self promo. Seriously, who uses 'Was tentacles all along' in a poem.
After a short while of talking, his face turned pink. Someone talked, it was Kayano. His face turned back to yellow. Then after a little while back to pink.
Tomori turned up the volume of her headphones, as the ticking grew louder and louder. And as soon as Nagisa stood, the ticking was all her thoughts were made of.
Gripping her head she let out a small grunt. Tomori's eyes squeezed shut, her fingers racking against the side of her head. Hearing it, Chiba turned and looked at the girl in concern.
All of a sudden a bang was clearly heard in the classroom. All noise vanished from Tomori's head as Nagisa was nowhere to be seen, Terasaka and his gang stood up cheering. They cheered about how they'd get the prize money.
White hair shadowing her eyes, Tomori walked to the front of the classroom. She stood in front of Terasaka, then slapped him across the face. "THE HELL WAS THAT LITTLE STUNT. FUCK YOU AND YOUR HOLY LITTLE SHIT-HEAD GANG." She seethed at the boy.
The class fell silent, they'd never seen the girl that enraged before. Bloodlust was seeping into the cracks of the floorboard.
The girl heard the words of the octopus coming into play, she wiped her head around. Eventually finding the thing on the ceiling, his face pitch black. He absolutely raged at the trio, as Tomori made her way back to her desk.
Her breathing was ragged as she practically collapsed onto her chair. Rinka spun around, ignoring the octopi's long lecture. Her gentled placed Tomori's head against her chest and started to comb her fingers through the white girl's hair.
Rinka stayed there, even once everyone returned to their seats. Even after Kayano named the monster Korosensi.
The whole time, Rinka stayed by Tomori's side. Chiba's presence was felt by the girl as well. The two seemed to comfort her in the tenderest ways, by simply being there.
