The rumors of the great gate had spread far & wide. Seoul was home to those who dared to achieve more than what they were given. Life. Let me take you back to my beginning...

Ugh, I was fed up with the situation at hand. You see, I lived in the underground of Seoul. News of this gate holding souls spread wildly. For a kid with entirely no family, I was making sure I survived no matter the cost. Even if I had to live in the underground with other people like me. Soulless. 

I took a seat across from someone I knew fairly well. Probably more than they knew themselves. A simple guy, Cha Seunghoon. "You thinking of heading to the surface ? To find this gate everyone is talking about ?" I rolled my eyes. We were very much alike given the circumstances, but that didn't mean I had to tell him anything. 

"승훈 씨, 왜 제가 하는 일에 그렇게 관심을 가지세요? 우리가 친구 같은 건 아니잖아요." (Why are you so interested in what I'm doing, Seunghoon ? It isn't like we're friends.) I could see ow his face contorted in confusion, as well as a flash of anger. I knew how to push his buttons. It became an apparent skill of mine. No one can take advantage of someone if they don't even know to play the game correctly. Seunghoon forced a smile my way, "Word around is that you're dumb enough to risk everything to find the gate. Is this true ?" He was trying, I'll give him that.

I glanced at my watch. It isn't like I owe him anything. "Stop beating around the bush, Seunghoon. What do you want from me ?" I knew I had baited him to reveal what he truly wished to say as soon as he realized I was beyond bored with this entire conversation. "I also want to look for the gate. What makes you so sure you'll be the one to find it anyway ?" That was what this was all about ? He wanted to make this a competition ? I sighed, "Why do you care anyway ? It isn't like I asked for your opinion. I simply made a decision to risk everything, for I have nothing to lose..."

I was very confident in myself & my decision making. Why should I doubt myself because he thinks other wise ? "손해 볼 거 없어요? 우리 같은 사람들이 저 위에 있는 걸 싫어해요. 영혼이 없으면 동정심도 없죠 혼자서는 하루도 못 버텨요." (Nothing to lose ? They don't like people like us up there. No soul, no sympathy. You won't last a day up there alone.) Was he trying to get me to agree with him ? Get me to bring him with me ? I would laugh, but this was honestly the last thing I was expecting. 

I smirked, "I don't need you to worry about me. I survived down here without anyone looking out for me. I'll do just fine." Seunghoon was shocked, no doubt. He most likely was suprised he hadn't managed to change my mind at all. I left him in his shock as I began to leave him where he sat. "Hey ! Come back, Jungkook ! We weren't done talking !" 

I let out a chuckle as I continued to walk away from him. Nothing was going to change my mind. I packed my things & stood at the underground entrance to the surface. There is no turning back now...
