~Your p.o.v~
When I stepped outside of the infirmary, I heard people running down the hallway. I looked up and saw blue hair, black hair, and white hair. It was them...
I stumbled back as they all reached me. They glared at each other, and then backed away a few steps.
"We want you to choose." Soul said.
"You've probably had time to think... but we don't want to rush you-" Kid was cut off by Black Star punching him in the nose. The blue-haired boy then looked at me while moving his eyebrows around.
I moved away from them a little ways, in the direction that I thought the entrance of the school was. "Well... I can't choose if I haven't dated any of you." I said.
They all started talking at once to me, and then at each other, then they started fighting. I took that opportunity to make my escape. I ran for the front of the school, and, amazingly enough, the three didn't notice.
I ran down the steps quickly and made it to the streets in a few minutes. I took a few seconds to breath, my lungs hurting. At least it wasn't hot today. I started jogging to Atsuki, Rin, and my apartment.
I reached it, hoping none of the boys had noticed me leave. I walked up the steps of the house and opened the door. I was about to call out to Atsuki and Rin, when I heard fighting coming from the kitchen.
"Why didn't you stand up for her? You're her guardian!" Rin's voice said. I felt a pang in my heart and moved closer to the kitchen door.
"Rin. You're not being fair." Atsuki said. His voice was calm, but angry. "I was following the contract that I signed when I became a student, and when I became a teacher! It's my duty to follow the orders of Lord Death, and tell them any valuable information!" he said.
Rin scoffed. "And you followed those rules when you hid what you knew about _____ before they found out about her?" Rin said, her voice starting to get angry.
Atsuki was silent for a few seconds. "If I had lied any longer they wouldn't have trusted me." He said, his voice flat.
My blood was cold. He gave up protecting me for the trust of a few adults? I clutched my chest, tears forming in my eyes. If Angelica had been in his place, she would've died to protect me.
I heard a mug shatter on the floor as Rin lost it. I flinched at the loud sound. "Are you even listening to yourself?!" Rin screamed.
"Rin!" Atsuki yelled and I ran to my room. They kept yelling and I heard another thing break.
I slammed my door and the fighting cut off almost instantly. I flew to my bed and smashed my fists into the mattress, anger and hurt from Atsuki think in my chest.
I grabbed my pillow and screamed into it, my heart aching. He had been like my older brother, but now I hated him. Hated him!
The glass on a box that held a few different butterflies shattered and the bugs were freed, their dead body fueled with the magic from my anger.
A few minutes later, there was a soft nock on my door. Without waiting for an answer, Rin slammed in, her body full of rage. She gestured to me. "Get a coat. We're going somewhere." She said, shaking with anger.
I rose, looking at her. She wasn't hurt, but she looked as if she was ready to walk out on Atsuki. "Where are we going?" I asked. "It's almost eight." I said.
She threw her hands in the air. "I don't know! Anywhere but here!" she said, and I agreed with her. I grabbed my coat and she grabbed my hand, dragging me to the front door.
"Where are you going?" Atsuki asked, looking at us in our coats. Rin didn't respond and I didn't meet his eyes. Rin threw the front door open, and we were met by chill air. "Hey!" Atsuki yelled, but Rin slammed the door shut, ignoring him.
We walked quickly down the street, the sun not quite behind the horizon. Rin was pissed, and my chest hurt with betrayal. We walked to a small restaurant a few blocks away, and we sat down in a small booth. It was a nice restaurant, lit candles on the table and a waiter in a vest and tie walked up to us.
"Anything to drink?" the waiter said, a slight accent in his voice.
I sighed as I listened to the live band playing in one corner, a violinist and a man with an accordion.
Rin looked up at him with a drained face. "Bring me your strongest alcohol." She said.
The waiter smiled knowingly and jotted it down on his notepad. He looked at me with a smile. "And for you, Ma'am?" he asked.
I shrugged. "Tea?" I asked.
He nodded and left. I looked over at Rin, who had rested her head on the table. "Atsuki's going-"
"I don't care about Atsuki right now." She said, and I became silent. She sighed and lifted her head, sitting up straight. She took her coat off and smiled at me. "So, have you decided on one of those boys yet?" she asked.
I sighed. "...No. They came to me and asked who I was going to choose." I said. The waiter came back with our drinks and I mumbled a thank you. Rin accepted her drink with a smile. It looked like a martini, and when she took a sip, she sat back with it in her hands, her face content.
"Well, what did you say?" she asked.
I shrugged. "I told them that I couldn't choose, seeing as I hadn't dated any of them." She nodded, drinking more of her martini.
"Well," she said. "Than take turns dating them for a little, until you know which one you wanna date." She said. She set her drink down as the waiter came back with menus. She waved a finger at me, the alcohol seeming to already make her a little tipsy. "Get whatever you want, Honey." She said. "It's on me."
The waiter smiled and walked away. I looked over the menu while Rin finished her drink, making a contented sound.
When we had finished our food, and Rin was well into fifth martini, the waiter came back. "Will you have another?" he asked.
She shrugged, her hand holding her up. "Sure." She said. Her black hair spilled over her shoulder, and I was leaning back in the booth. I wish that I could be like Rin right now, drink something and forget everything. My life had taken an awful turn, and at the moment I just wanted to forget everything, even if it was just till tomorrow.
"Hey _____." Rin said, spinning one of the martini glasses around and making the remnants of the clear alcohol swish around.
"Yeah?" I said, drinking my tea.
"Did you know that Atsuki asked me to marry him?" she said.
I smiled. "Really?" I said.
She sniffed. "Yeah. And now I don't know what to do. He's not quite the person he said he was." She looked at me. "After what he did to you..." she finished her drink, then looked at the table. "What if we had kids? If they made one mistake, and he did what he did to you to them, abandoned them..." she sighed.
My heart ached, and the waiter came back with Rin's drink. She sat up. "Here." She said, sliding her credit card into the waiter's hand. "We'll leave soon." She said. He nodded and walked away to ring up the bill.
She sipped the drink and sighed. "I don't know what to do anymore." She looked at me, and grabbed my hand. Her eyes slid closed drunkenly and then opened. "I know one thing though; I'm not going to let anyone touch you." She said. She finished her drink quickly when the waiter came back and took her card.
"Thanks..." she slurred as she stood, slipping her coat on and took her card.
"Thank you." I said, standing quickly to support Rin so she wouldn't fall over. We walked out of the restaurant and Rin rubbed her head. "We can't go back." She said. "I have a friend... she lived close." She said.
I nodded, not even caring anymore. We started walking in the direction that Rin pointed, and I dragged her along. We past different houses, all of their lawns perfectly groomed. The streetlights lit them up in a creepy way.
We came up on a house that had rows of flowers planted on the grass, and small lights everywhere. "Here." Rin said, and we walked up the stairs. She nocked on the door, and after a minute, we heard footsteps and the door swung open.
A girl with short blonde hair stood in the doorway, with her pajamas on. "Rin?" she asked, glancing over Rin's drunken form. "What happened to you? I thought you moved in with that boy?" she asked.
"Can _____ and I stay here for the night?" Rin said, her words slurring together.
The blonde nodded and smiled at me sweetly. "Sure." We walked in, and Rin stumbled and fell on the couch. The blonde walked over and looked disapprovingly down at the ravenette. "How much did you drink?" she asked.
"Leave me alone, Nicole." Rin mumbled, her voice muffled by the pillow her face was buried in. A moment later, her shoulders relaxed and it looked like she had passed out.
The blonde, Nicole sighed. "Rin..." she said. She turned to me, a smile creasing her face. "Hey, so name's _____?" she asked.
"Y-yeah." I said.
"Well, _____, make yourself at home." She walked into a room, and returned with some clothing. "Here." She said. I took the clothing.
"Thanks." I said.
She walked into the kitchen and flicked a light on. "Do you want some hot chocolate?" she asked. "I couldn't fall asleep."
"Sure." I said.
"There's a bathroom in the hallway. First door." She said.
I went to it after slipping my shoes off. I changed quickly and walked back into the living room. I set clothes down on the couch next to Rin's sleeping form.
I walked into the kitchen and looked around. Nicole was at the stove, stirring a pot. She glanced at me and smiled. "They fit?" she said, and I nodded. "Sit." She said, and I did so.
She set two mugs in front of me and walked over with the hot coco. She filled the cups and put the pot in the sink. She shivered a little as she bent and opened a cabinet below the sink. "Jeez it's cold for summer!" she said.
I was shocked for a moment, and then thought for a second. It was probably summer break by now. Everyone would be off at the academy.
Nicole straightened and turned, a bottle in her hand. It read, RUM, on the front of the glass and she dumped some into her mug. She looked at me with a questioning eyebrow. I shrugged and she poured a little of the amber liquid into my cup.
"Helps me sleep sometimes." She said. She took her mug up and drank some, a contented sigh leaving her. "Good stuff."
I lifted my cup and sipped some of the liquid, unsure, then sighed as well. I took in a gulp, and my stomach felt warm. I rubbed my forehead and Nicole leaned on the counter.
"Rough night?" she asked.
"Yeah. For both Rin and I." I said.
She nodded in understanding. "I get it." She took another sip of her coco. "Well, I don't have guests all that much, but if you need a place to stay," she gestured around her. "Rin's friends are mine." She said.
"Thank you, Nicole." I said.
She smiled. "And if you ever need a drink and a talk, I wont go to the police." She said.
I laughed a little, and she joined me with a smile. "Thanks." I said. I yawned and she stood, setting her cup in the sink.
"You're tired. Let's find you a bed." She said. I quickly drank more of my coco, finishing it, and I stood. I followed her, rubbing my eye. She opened a door at the end of the hallway. "The bed has fresh sheets." She said, walking in and turning on the lamp.
I walked in and looked around at the nicely furnished room. She walked to the door and closed it, leaning in and saying, "Sleep tight!" she said.
I got under the covers, and snuggled down. I flicked the light off and closed my eyes. The warmth from the rum made me tired, and I sighed. I had no idea what to do. I didn't want to go back to Asuki's house, and I couldn't ask Nicole to stay here.
I began to fall asleep and pushed the problem aside. I'll figure it out.
