Truce

Is it bad that I'm legitimately almost crying over my fictional characters...? And I'm getting sentimental about ending this story even though I know that I need to do it soon. Fuck I'm gonna cry.

Btw, listen to Truce by Twenty One Pilots while reading please.

When I got out of the shower, I felt exhausted emotionally. I dried my hair with the blow dryer, and got into a comfy grey sweater and a pair of jeans, a pair of warm socks on my feet. I looked in the mirror, seeing my bedraggled state. I sat on my bed, already feeling more tears coming, and I blinked them away as I lifted my phone from my bedside table.

I looked for Maka's number. It was almost six now, and I tapped Maka's number, smiling at all of the different emojis she had put next to her name. I held the phone to my ear, waiting for her to pick up.

"(Y/n)? Hey! You coming soon?" Her cheerful voice said. I could hear the background noise of my other friends, and I figured that they were already all there.

I pulled my knees into my chest. "I don't think I can come." I said, my voice scratchy and rough from crying.

"What?" she asked. There was a moment of quiet, and then she spoke again. "(Y/n)... are you okay?" she asked.

"Yeah." I said, wiping the tears that were managing to escape from my eyes away. "Yeah. I'm fine." I said.

She was silent for another moment. "(Y/n)? What happened?" she asked. I looked up at the sealing, my chin trembling. "(Y/n)?" she asked again, the noise of my other friends became quiet, telling me that they had heard Maka, and were most likely listening.

"I..." I said. "I just can't..." I said, a breath escaping my lips. She was quiet, waiting for my response. "I just can't deal with people right now. I just wanna be alone." I said, feeling another round of sobs pressing on the inside of my chest.

Maka let out a breath, seeming to sense my pain. "Listen, (Y/n)." she said.

"Y-yeah?" I said, sniffling.

"I'll make one of Kid's spare bedrooms super cozy with the girls, like a pillow fort, and it you get sick of us, you can just go there for as long at you need." She said.

I looked at the ground, tears dripping onto my hand. When did I become such a crybaby? "Okay, Maka." I said, and then I pulled my phone away from my ear and shut it off.

I stood and got my boots on. I looked around my room, finding my leather jacket hanging on my chair, and I sighed, putting it on and glad that I hadn't accidentally forgotten to take it off before I got in the shower earlier.

I walked downstairs, attempting to slip past Rin and Atsuki, who were sitting on the couch, but failed and they saw me. "Where you going?" Rin asked, not even looking up from the TV that was playing a movie.

I sighed. Her and her special pregnant woman abilities. "I'm going to a thing with my friends at Kid's house." I said.

She turned with Atsuki, looking at me. "Okay you okay, (Y/n)?" she asked.

I stopped, having heard that question too many times in the past month. "I'm fine." I said. She stood with Atsuki, the man completely silent as he looked at me with Rin. They came to me, and, without any signal to each other, hugged me between them.

I was surprised for a moment, and then I closed my eyes as tears formed in my eyes. "Thank you." I said, and the two of them nodded, letting me go.

I walked to the garage and got on the motorcycle, turning it on and pulling out of the garage. I began riding to Kid's house, and then decided to go to the grocery store and get some ice cream. I pulled into the parking lot, my bike seeming loud in the evening quiet. I got off of it and walked into the store, looking down the isles, and trying not to let memories bombard me.

I went to the freezer section and grabbed a tub of vanilla ice cream. Boring, but sometimes it was good. I bought it, and went back outside, sticking the tub of ice cream into the storage area on the bike where Atsuki usually kept the spare helmet, but I had taken it out before leaving.

I got to Kid's a few minutes later, and walked up to the house, seeing the lights on and hearing faint music. I went up to the door, drawing in a breath, not knowing if I was ready for this. I reached my hand that wasn't holding the ice cream out and prepared to nock on the door.

But before I had the chance to, it flung open, and I was greeted by all of my friend's faces. "Surprise!" they all yelled, a shower of confetti attacking me, and I stumbled backwards, dropping the ice cream.

I looked at all of them, little hats on their heads and all of them holding empty confetti shooters and having big grins on their faces. "Happy birthday!" Maka said, rushing forward and crushing me with a hug.

"How...?" I asked. "How did you know my birthday?" I asked, the other crushing me with hugs too. To be honest, I hadn't even remembered it until now. They all resumed their spots at the door, all grinning.

"Atsuki and Rin told us." Patti said.

"And we had to do something." Liz said.

"And we wanted to make you happy." Tsubaki said, and I couldn't help but feel like there was a ray of sunshine beaming down on me when she smiled at me.

"Come in!" the three guys said, and they glared at each other, making me laugh. I walked in, and saw obnoxious birthday decorations symmetrically placed across the walls.

I laughed a little, I heard Patti pick my ice cream up while making a sound that told me it was past saving, and I smiled at all the decorations. It made me feel like I was a little girl again, Angelica and Atsuki surprising me on my birthday with decorations. They had always set them up before I went to bed, and then when I would wake up, they would be there, and I remember it being the best thing in the world.

They dragged me to the living room, and made me sit down on the big lazboy in the room. "Open your presents!" Maka said, and Black Star, Kid, and Soul began arguing over who would have theirs opened first.

Liz rolled her eyes, and gave me hers, and I opened it, smiling at the shirt inside. I pulled it out and held it up, looking at it. It read "HOT STUFF" with a big arrow pointing upward, and I laughed.

"It's true." The three guys said.

Patti went next, and she got me a really, really soft giraffe plushy that I hugged to my chest instantly and decided not to let go of it for the rest of the night. Then Tsubaki's present, which was a hairpin that she told me her great grand mother had owned, and then Maka, who gave me a book on ((*insert something that interest you here*)) and I smiled when she told me that she had almost spent all of her money when she went into the book store.

"Thanks guys." I said, smiling at the girls.

"Okay. Now for our gifts!" the three guys said.

Maka grinned. "I swear. When soul found out about this, he started planning and working until he got sick." She said. Soul seemed to blush white holding his small box in his hands.

"And Kid passed out while working on his." Liz said, and Patti made Kid's face turn red when she started going on about how sweet it was as he gripped the maybe canvas shaped item in his hands.

"And Black Star seemed very determined the entire time." Tsubaki said, smiling.

"You bet your ass I was!" Black Star said, and I saw the box he was holding, long and flat.

I took Soul's first, opening the box and seeing a little set of keys in it. I looked up at him. They didn't look like car keys, but—

"It's your birthday, so I figured I'd get you something pretty cool." He said, blushing and scratching the back of his head.

"It's... It's a..." I said.

"Motorcycle!" Maka said, seeming unable to contain herself.

"A fancy one too!" Patti said, grinning. "He and Maka drove it here. It's super cool!" Patti said.

I rose and hugged Soul, smiling like crazy. I'd have my own bike now, which means I wouldn't have to use Atsuki's anymore. "Thank you." I said, smiling at him.

He shrugged, grinning with his shark teeth. "No problem." He said.

I sat back down, and Kid handed me his gift. I lifted the object onto my lap, and tore the wrapping paper off of it, throwing it to the ground so I could see the painting. My mouth dropped open when I saw it.

It was of me, but the detail on it was incredible. There were small designs surrounding my face, all of them perfectly symmetrical. The pain that he had used was watercolor, and it was exquisite.

I stood and hugged Kid, smiling like crazy. "Thanks." I said, blushing.

"I'll hang it for you too, wherever you want it." He said, and I smiled at him, resuming my seat again.

"Now for mine!" Black Star said. He handed me his box, and I lifted the lid from it, looking at what was inside of it. "Mine took forever to make, by the way." He said.

It was a small blown glass necklace with the smallest of details. In the center of it, there was a sunflower, and I smiled, remembering all of the flowers that Black Star had brought me, always sunflowers.

"Thank you." I said, pulling the necklace from the box. I clasped it in the back, and looked down at it, smiling.

"But see," Black Star said, and everyone turned to him. "Sunflowers are special because," he said, lifting a finger. "They can suck up radiation." He said. He smiled at me, but not his silly grin, but there was more behind it. "They suck up bad stuff. So the reason I made it a sunflower was because since so much has been happening, so many bad things, that the sunflower will get rid of all of it." He said. He raised thumbs up, grinning now. "And I'll help." He said.

I felt tears in my eyes, and rose, hugging him.

After we cleaned up all of the wrapping paper, we all sat around the couches, talking. I was leaning against Maka's shoulder, and empty space next to me, that, after an argument between the boys, had been decided to be left empty.

"Soul!" Patti said. "Play piano!" she said.

I looked at the white haired boy, smiling as he blushed. "Damnit, Patti. Had to bring something like that up, didn't you?" he said, and we all laughed. Kid ran to a shape in the room that must've been a piano. He pulled a cover off of it to reveal a big, black grand piano.

We started chanting for Soul to play, and he rolled his eyes, standing from his spot on the floor and going to the piano. He sat down and began player, the sound of the music calming and sweet.

There was the sound of a door closing, and we all looked up to the hallway, seeing someone standing there. Soul stopped playing, and we all looked at the person.

Mari smiled a little, her hands looking as if they were shaking as she held a bag in one hand, and a box wrapped in simple brown paper in the other. "H-hey." She said, and we were silent for a moment. She looked at the ground, looking as if she was composing herself. "I... I heard it was (Y/n)'s birthday... so..." she said, lifting her plastic bad and the box. "I brought cookies and a present...?" she said, sounding a bit confused for some reason.

I met her black eyes, and then I saw something in them. It was hope. "Come sit here." I said, patting the spot next to me and smiling.

She smiled a little and walked over, sitting next to me and setting the box in my lap. "Sorry. It's a little unoriginal, but I found out today from Stein it was your birthday." She said.

"That's okay." I said, smiling as Mari gave Patti the cookies, telling the blonde that she had gotten them for her. I unwrapped the brown paper on the box, and lifted the lid, pulling away tissue paper to see black leather. I looked at Mari as I pulled out the jacket.

"I saw how much you wear this one," she said, tugging at the fabric of her other leather one I was wearing. "So I figured I get you a nicer one." She said.

I pulled off the one I was wearing and slid the new one onto my shoulders, smiling at how well it fit. It was soft on the inside, and it felt like I could wear it in any weather and be the perfect temperature. I looked on the inside, seeing it was lined with satin, and saw embroidery. There were words along the inside, the names of all of my friends, her, and...

My throat caught when I saw Angelica and Asuka too. I looked at Mari, seeing that look of hope in her eyes, and then I saw that it was broken. I hugged her, holding onto her tight, knowing that she needed to be held, even if she didn't want it. "Thank you." I whispered.

I pulled away, keeping one arm around her. She had tears in her eyes, and one fell down her cheek, but she brushed it away. "Don't mention it." She said. Maka leaned over and crushed Mari with a hug, and then Tsubaki did too, and then Liz, and then everyone joined her, me too, and we held Mari.

"G-guys—" she said, but Soul cut her off.

"We know what you need. This. So shut up and take our love." He said, and Mari closed her mouth, tears falling down her cheeks.

"Th-thank you." She said, burying her face in my shoulder to hide her tears.
