Shopping~!
Just a quick little chapter for you guys~ I might update later!
~Your p.o.v~
The buzzing of my phone woke me up in the morning and I turned over, waiting for it to stop ringing. When it finally did, I sighed and closed my eyes. Peace and quiet met my ears again and I started to drift off back into-
My phone started ringing again. I sat up, grumbling, and gabbed the little piece of metal. I looked at the screen and saw Maka's number. I rubbed my eyes as I hit the screen and answered it.
"Hello?" I said into the phone, my voice cracking with sleepiness.
"Get your ass out of bed!" the bookworms voice said through the little speaker, loud.
I flinched. "Why?" I asked, complaining.
She sighed, and it sounded like there were a few other people on the other end. "Because we're kidnapping you to go shopping for the party tomorrow! Or, at least, that's how Liz and Patti put it."
There was laughter and I got up. "Okay... okay." I said. "I'll be dressed in a few minutes. Where do you want me to meet you?" but the line went dead. I sighed, looking at the screen, and then I set it down and walked over to my closet.
I looked into my closet and sighed. I pulled out some clothing and put it on, stretching. I grabbed a brush and ran it through my tangled hair, the locks not wanting to get untangled.
Finally, I walked out of my room with a bag over my shoulder and I walked into the kitchen to get some food. I saw Rin sitting at the table, a cup of coffee in her hands, and Atsuki at the stove.
He turned and smiled at me, sending uneasiness through my body. He saw it, and he set his spatula down. He walked over to me and gave me a hug. "I told the DWMA that I was going to protect you from now on, better." He pulled away from me and looked into my face. "I also told them that if there was something that I needed to hide from them to keep you safe, that I was going to. And they told me they understood." He said.
I looked up into his eyes, shock spilling through me. "And? Did they, um, fire you?" I asked, feeling guilty.
He laughed, looking at Rin. She was smiling, and I noticed something on her finger; a ring. "No! Amazingly enough, they didn't!" he said. He scratched his head. "Actually... they promoted me."
I laughed and hugged him. "Well, I'm going out with friends to get stuff for the anniversary party tomorrow." I said.
He looked down at me. "I'm guessing you want money?" he asked. I nodded, my arms still around him. He smiled, shaking his head and pulled money out from a drawer on the counter.
He counted out two hundred dollars, and my eyes widened. "You don't-" I said, but he stopped me.
"Your friends are waiting!" he said, and I smiled at him, then Rin. I waved to them and ran to the door, slipping on a pair of shoes. I opened the door, remembering that I had no idea where my friends were, then I saw all of them standing out in the sun.
"(y/n)! Get your butt over here!" Liz said, looking as if she was melting onto Patti. None of the guys were there (thank goodness) so I wouldn't have to deal with them asking who I had chosen. I was still going over it in my head.
Tsubaki smiled at me, the tall girl holding her arms behind her back. "You ready?" she asked.
I ran down the steps to join them, and we started walking.
* * *
It was dark by the time we all walked back to my house. They stood in front of me, the various shopping bags and whatnot on their arms. I had a few bags too, and I found it hard to wave as I walked up the steps to the door.
"We'll meet at your house tomorrow to get ready?" Maka asked.
"Sure!" I said, finally getting my hand on the doorknob and twisting it open. "See you then!" I said, and walked inside, feeling happy. I heard laughter from the kitchen and walked into it to see Rin, Atsuki, Stein, Spirit, and Marie all around the kitchen table with cards in their hands. They had poker chips, and it looked as if Rin was attempting to bluff, but she burst out laughing.
I smiled at them and they turned. "Hey, (y/n)." Atsuki said. "Want to join us?" he said. He turned back to the others, looking at them with a stern harshness. "She's better than me. I taught her everything she knows and she can beat anyone. I invited one of my mobster friends over once, and she crushed him."
Stein looked at me as I set my bags down and sat at the table, cracking my fingers. "I little rusty." I said, looking at the adults.
Stein passed me a hand of cards, his glasses white from the way the light hit them. There was a cigarette in his lips, and he looked menacing. "It's on, Witchy Girl." He said.
I stared him down. "You got it, Professor." I said.
Stein had the biggest pile of chits, and he passed me a few to start off with. I looked at my cards and acted like I had bad ones. Then we started playing, and, frankly, I kicked all of my teachers' butts.
At the end I had all of the chits, Spirit's watch, and a packet of Stein's cigarettes. They all looked at the cards, and then realized that they had nothing else to gamble with. "Fold." They all said, throwing their cards down on the table.
I stood, tossing the cigarettes into the trash (which made Stein jerk), and put Spirit's watch on. "Good game. Looking forward to playing again." I said.
"Wait wait..." Stein said, looking at his cards. "I think I can beat you." He said.
I threw my cards down on the table, face up, and the adults gaped. All of them were aces. "How...?" Rin asked, and Atsuki started clapping.
"Goodnight." I said, and grabbed my bags and walked to my room. I could hear the adults in utter shock as I closed my door, and I laughed a little. I pulled my dress out of its bag and slid it onto a hander. The long red dress that went all the way to the ground was soft under my fingers. I sighed and hung it up on the dresser, the shoes I had gotten going under it.
I changed into pajamas and crawled into bed, feeling tired. I closed my eyes and fell asleep almost instantly.
