I'm Not Doing This For You

Heey everyone! I hope you like this part. It's a little short and I was being lazy and took forever. Sorry guys.

Well, I love all ya and have a great day!

love, Mari~!

~Soul's p.o.v~

I watched as Maka and Kid's heads whipped up, looking down the hallway of the Death Room. "What's wrong?" I asked, a bad feeling going through me.

"_____..." Maka said, looking confused.

Lord Death turned toward where Maka was looking. "____ has just left Death City." He said, his blank mask looking a little creepy in the moment.

I jolted. "She left Death City?!" I asked.

Atsuki turned to go. "I need to go get her." He said, beginning to run out of the Death Room.

"Same." Black Star, Kid, and I said all at once. We looked at each other then started running after Atsuki.

"Stop." Stein said. We all turned, looking impatiently at the man. "We don't know who she could be with. It could be someone dangerous." He said, lighting a cigarette.

Lord Death nodded. "Stein is right."

I turned to Death. "I don't care who she's with! We need to save her!"

"What if she's hurt!" Kid said.

"What if someone kidnapped her!" Black Star yelled.

Death held up his hands. "Okaayy. Students. You need to calm down." He put his hands together. "We still have a tracker on her." He thought for a moment. "We'll send someone after her."

"Who?" I asked.

"I was thinking Mari, when she got better." He said.

I looked over at Kid, his uncomfortable expression obvious. "Why Mari?" he asked.

Death moved slightly, looking at his son. "Because I have a hunch that the person who took ______ was Arachne." He said. All of us starred at Death.

"What?" Spirit asked.

Atsuki turned back to the hallway. "We can go as soon as Mari is better?" he asked, his head down.

It was clear to me and probably everyone else in the room that he felt guilty. "Yes." Death said.

"Then I'll go check on her." Atsuki said, walking off.

~Kid's p.o.v~

Was my father really going to ask Mari to go after Arachne? What would she do? In such a fragile state she could...

No. Mari is strong.

I walked out of the Death Room after Atsuki. I didn't see him, so he must've already been in the infirmary. I walked slowly to the room, dreading looking into Mari's broken eyes.

It was all my fault that she was like this. I needed to make it right.

I stepped into the infirmary and saw her bed. She was sitting up, talking to Atsuki.

"Please Mari." He said. His voice was hoarse as if he was about to punch a hole in the wall.

Mari nodded. "I will." She looked up at him, smiling. "I'll be able to go soon. Don't worry." She said.

Atsuki nodded and turned to leave. He saw me and stopped. "Kid." He said softly. He walked out of the room and closed the door behind himself.

I walked to Mari, sitting on the edge of her bed. She looked from the window, tears streaking down her cheeks. "Kid." She said.

"Mari..." I said, not sure what to do.

"I can't deal with Arachne..." she said, a sob escaping her lips. She looked up at me, her shoulders shaking. "Atsuki told me." she said.

"She took _____." He said. "We need to do everything we can to save her."

Mari laughed a little. "_____. Yeah. I'll save her."

I smiled, relief spilling through my chest. "Thank you so much, Mari. I owe you so much." I said. I leaned in to hug her, but she stopped me with a hand to my chest. I stopped moving, looking into her dark eyes.

"Make no mistake." She said, her tear filled eyes black and dark, her feelings clear. "I'm not doing this for you. I'm doing this for my friend." She said.

I pulled away, my eyes down. "I...I'm sorry." I looked up at her, grabbing her shoulders. "I want you to know that I'm so sorry."

She pushed me away. "You told me that you loved me." She said. I stopped moving.

"I know I did-"

"But you moved on as soon as something better came along." She said.

I pulled away, standing straight. "I'm sorry." I looked at her crying form.

She looked out the window. "Tell Stein I'll be ready in ten minutes."

I nodded and left the room, guilt swelling up in my stomach. She was a mess because of me. And I felt terrible.
