"Forget me, but remember..."
~Your p.o.v~
I reached out, trying to touch Angelica, but I knew she was only mist. I had summoned her so only her spirit would appear, not the walking monster I had reincarnated once. She had looked like the monsters I summoned to kill keshins with, not the smiling girl I called sister.
I reached out my hands even though I knew they would pass right through her. I smiled sadly as they did, hitting the grave stone behind her shaking ghost.
“Oh… that’s right… I’m not real!” Angelica said, laughing. She leaned back and it looked as if she was resting on her gravestone. “You’ve grown so much, ____. I’m sad I only get to see you on my birthday.”
I smiled again and adjusted the flowers on her grave. “I’m sorry, but I think the academy would find me out.” I said.
Angelica pursed her lips. “Then why do you reincarnate me at all, ____?” she asked.
“Why would you ask such a silly question?” I said, wiping some dirt from the white marble of her grave marker.
“Why can’t you let me go, ____?” Angelica asked, her voice pained and sounding like she wanted to cry.
“Because…” I said, looking up at her. “I don’t want to be all alone…” I said. She always asked this, every year, and I always answered the same.
“I’m dead. What do you tell people when you speak of me? do you tell them I went to the DWMA? Do you tell them I raised you?” Angelica said.
I sat back and held my shoulders. “I tell them you went to the DWMA and graduated. I told them you were my older sister.”
I looked up as a rasping noise came from Angelica’s delicate lips. This was the worst part. This was the part I dreaded every year.
Her silhouette became ugly and ragged looking, blood dripping from her whole body. “Do you tell them you killed me?” she asked, her body showing what it looked like after I killed her.
If there was any hate or anger in a soul’s heart, when it was reborn, it always had some of that red-hot anger left. And when I summoned Angelica, once within our meeting she always became this horrifying creature.
“I resent you, ____... I hope you die, just like me.” Angelica said and I flinched. This was the first time she had ever said something like that to me.
I looked up at her. “I’m sorry Angelica.” I said, tears starting to run down my cheeks. “I’m so sorry for everything! It’s all my fault!”
“That’s okay, ____. I don’t mind.” She said, her face going back to its natural beauty. “I don’t mind being dead, but…” she said, her tears soft and causing streaks down her cheeks. “You have to make me a promise, ____,” she said.
I looked up at her, something bad in my stomach. “Wh-what is it?”
She clasped her transparent hands together and tilted her head. “I never want you to summon me again.” She said. My heart stopped as her form began to fade at the edges.
“Wait… what?!” I said, reaching out my hands. She was fading but I was still holding my power on her. “Angelica!” I said.
“Never again.” She said. Her body was almost gone and all I could hear was her voice. “Live on. Just remember the good things about me. Don’t forget though. Don’t forget that time. The time when you killed me. Because, without pain, how could we know joy?” one of her hands, faint like tissue paper, reached out and I could’ve sworn that I could feel something on my cheeks, like a soft breath, or a silent word.
I could see her face, and it was the last time I would see it. She leaned forward and her lips seemed to touch my forehead. “Now,” she said. “It’s time to remember.” I was looking into her faint eyes as she closed them, a soft smile on her lips. “Forget me, but remember…”
