Training!
Soul focused his red eyes on the tan bandage as he wrapped it around Maka's wrist. She bruised it from her fall.
"It's your fault," a voice echoed "you shouldn't have been so careless"
If only he hadnt been so weak.
He remembered the sheer panic, seeing Maka in the hands of that monster. Seeing red after hearing his intentions, his filthy thoughts with his Maka. Then feeling so utterly helpless cradling her in his arms.
"Soul." Maka snapped him out of his thoughts. He was so lost in thought he didnt realise his partner had been watching his expretion with a careful eye.
"Im doing it Maka, I have no choice, He could have hurt you."
"But Soul!"
"Maka!" His eyes glowed with anger as he glared up at her, bareing his iron teeth. Maka had never flinched at the sight and she didn't start now.
"Maka I swore that I would protect you, even at the cost of life. I could never forgive myself if you got hurt!" He cut the wrap with his teeth and secured the end of the bandage. He could practically hear her anger boiling.
"So that makes it ok for you to hurt yourself in the process?!"
"Better me than you!!"
"And why is that?!"
He faltered. What was he supposed to say? 'Because I protect the one I love'? 'If you died I would die too?!......like hell.
"Forget it! I'm doing it! You can't stop me!"
And with that, Soul slammed the door.
----------time skip---------
She didn't know why it bothered her so much but it did. She could take care of herself! He was just being ridiculous! Although Maka was no better. they refused to speak to each other, except Mr. Paranoid refused to let her leave his sight. The air was heavy and awkward.
The tournament was coming up in three days and they had to train. Sid, the gym teacher, dedicated their classes to training. Class was also extended an extra half hour.
"All right, I've paired you up so you could face off. The pairs were picked at random, so you will have to make do."
His dead eyes looked up from the clip-board for a second before reading off the list.
"Maka Albarn and Ox Ford"
"The two birds, typical." Maka scowled.
"Soul Eater and Kid"
"Tsubaki and Harvar"
"Liz and Patty Verses Kim and Jackie"
"Black*Star and Klink."
The pairs stood. Maka felt Souls eyes on her back, causing her to shiver. The class separated to their respected Areas. Maka and Ox, being birds, went outside. Tsubaki and Harvar went to the pool.
"Hope your ready Albarn." Ox crossed his arms. His body glowed brightly along with Maka's. Ox had bright yellow feathers in the form of zig-zags. His beak was large and jagged along the edge. His eyes were a dark blue like a thundercloud. Little sparks flew off him every time he flapped his wings.
Maka had the majority of her feathers a dark orange. The middle of her wigs were a lighter orange, the tips where coated with a yellow fire. She had a long red tail and red fire surrounding it. She had green pupil-less eyes.
Ox dove toward her at blinding speed, attacking her from every angle. Her fire body had no effect against his quick attacks. She gathered all the energy until she couldn't hold it anymore,
"Dazzling sun." She murmured. Before releasing a bright hot light. White and blinding, she looked like another sun. Ox screeched and stopped to refocus his hurt eyes.
"Now is my chance!" Maka shot up flapping as fast as she could until she was a few meters above the disoriented bird.
"Let's go! Phoenix Drill!" She nose-dived straight down towards her target. Fire started to spin around her, getting larger and larger. Soon a large funnel surrounded her. Ox looked up just in time to see her, but it was too late. Maka hit Ox head on burning him and pushing him closer towards the ground.
They hit.
The fire died down leaving Ox in the middle of a crater.
"Very good Maka." Sid wrote something on his clip board before picking up Ox and bringing him inside.
"I will get stronger," Maka clenched her fist, "for Soul!"
