Kari jolted her eyes open and she quickly sat up while looking around. She was panting and her heart was beating like crazy. Kari stood up and then got a call from Alphys. "H-h-hey, Alphys here. Uh, s-so pretty soon you'll need to solve some puzzles before you can go on. Th-they aren't hard b-b-but I just thought I'd l-let you know." Kari smiled.

"Thank you Alphys." The child replied happily and she packed up her things while Alphys spoke to her over the phone.

"D-don't forget to drink lots of water."

"Kay."

"Th-the p-p-puzzles are not too far away, just head to the right, n-no left."

"Uh, alright then."

"Wait, it was right, right." Kari smiled and giggled lightly while Alphys freaked out on the other end of the phone. The child walked onwards, and not too long later she found some pads on the ground that had steam escaping from the vents with arrows on them. Kari walked on top of the one with the moving arrow, since it was the only one she could step on, while humming in thought, and she was sent flying to the right over a gap to land near a room with an up-arrow-like shape. Kari went inside and saw a note to the left of a red machine. Kari took the note and read it with a hum then put it back. She then went back to the red machine and looked at the screen. It was like a video game, just only one level and very simple. Kari saw that she had two bullets and there were a few moveable obstacles and on the other side of her was the thing she needed to shoot. The child grinned and shot the opposing ship within one minute. She jumped for joy after she figured out the puzzle then rushed back to the steam pad to land in front the same steam pad with the moving arrow. Kari smiled and jumped up and nearly landed on the same steam pad as before, but the steam lifted her upwards and sent her flying towards another room just like the last, except this one had a blue laser in her way. Kari just stared at the laser, then went to touch it when she got a call from Alphys.

"D-don't touch that laser!" She called and Kari shrugged. "Th-that blue laser won't hurt you if you are not moving but if you are moving then it will hurt you. There are also orange lasers around the Hotlands. If you move around when they are about to hit you then you will be ok, but if you're being still then they will hurt you a lot. H-hold tight a s-sec. I'll turn off the laser." Kari smiled then went inside. In the familiar looking room was another red machine with a harder version of the same puzzle. Kari took about two minutes to complete the puzzle then ran out and laughed while she was sent flying back towards the moving arrow. Then she jumped over to it while giggling. Before she continued, she stepped on the steam pad behind her then back on the pad with the moving arrow for fun. There was a door in front of her that had two glowing green symbols. The door began to slid open and let Kari pass to see the path forward. Kari rushed and saw another steam pad so she went on it and was sent flying towards two others on their own pillars then onto a glittering floor while giggling. The child stepped into a dark room then got a call from Alphys.

"H-hey. I know th-that it's k-kinda d-d-d-dark there, l-lemme help r-real quick." Alphys hacked into the system of the area she was in and turned the light back on. Kari was standing in a large kitchen, behind a counter. "Oh no..." Alphys sounded worried. She had every right to sound like that because Mettaton rose up from a hiding spot behind the counter and began to speak.

"Oohhh yes!! Welcome Beauties to the underground's premier cooking show!! Cooking with killer robot!!" There was the sound of an audience applauding and cheering. "Pre-heat your ovens, because today we've got a very special recipe!" There was a sound of ooh's and aah's as well as a little murmuring here and there. "We're going to make... A cake!!" Kari widened her eyes and gasped while looking at the robot.

"A cake?! I love cake!!" Kari giggled happily.

"Doesn't everyone, darling? Now you, my lovely assistant, you will need to gather the ingredients for this cake. Everyone give her a big hand!!" The sound of applauding and cheering echoed through the kitchen. "Now, we'll need some sugar, milk, and eggs. Go for it sweetheart." Kari nodded then turned around to see all the ingredients that were just listed on the counter behind her. The child grinned and grabbed the eggs and brought them to Mettaton then the milk then finally the sugar, she had to bring them one at a time because she needed both hands to carry each one so she would not drop them. "Perfect! Great job, Darling! We've got all the ingredients we need to bake our cake. Milk, sugar eggs. Oh, wait one magnificent moment! I forgot one important ingredient!" Kari looked up at Mettaton in confusion. The robot pulled out a chainsaw and spoke. "A human soul!" Kari took a step back and let out a small whine. Mettaton approached Kari with the chainsaw revving loudly. Kari was frozen in fear as the robot got closer and closer. As Mettaton was only inches away from Kari, phone ran and Mettaton answered it. "Hello? I'm kind of busy at the moment."

"W-wait a second! C-couldn't you make a... uh Couldn't you use a... C-couldn't you use a substitution in the cake?" It was Alphys on the other end of the call. Kari let out a sigh of relief.

"You mean use a different, non-human ingredient? Why?" Mettaton sounded a little annoyed.

"Wh-what if s-someone's... V-vegan?"

"Vegan."

"Uh, well, I--"

"That's a brilliant idea, Alphys! I happen to have the perfect ingredient right here! MTT-brand always-convenient-human-soul-flavor-substitutes! A can that is right over there, on that counter." Mettaton pointed to the right towards a small counter with a red can on it. Kari walked over to the counter and reached for the can, but the counter began to grow taller and taller for a moment. Kari gulped as she looked up at the now towering counter. "Oh, and our show runs on a strict schedule. If you can't get the can in the next minute then we will have to resort to our last option! So you better start climbing darling!" Kari whines then she gets a call.

"Oh no!! That's not a lot of time!! Th-th-thankfully I might have a plan! When I upgraded your phone I added a few other features." Kari blinked at Alphys words and listened. "There should be a button on your phone that says "Jetpack" on it. Press that button and watch." Kari pressed the button labeled "Jetpack" and her cell phone began to transform into a jetpack. Kari strapped on her once phone and let out a laugh. "You should have just enough fuel to reach the top!" Alphys called out. Apparently the phone still still worked like usual even though it was in jetpack mode.

"Sweet!! Thank you Alphys!!" She called as she began to fly up towards the top.

"N-now hurry and grab that c-can!" The royal scientist said.

While Kari flew upwards Mettaton went to stop her with the milk, eggs, and sugar. He flung the ingredients at Kari while flying slightly above her, some of them hitting her but most missed her. The child made it to the top of the counter with a wide smile.

"My, my. Looks like you've bested me this time, but only because you had the help of the brilliant doctor Alphys!" Mettaton sighed. "Oh, I loath to think what would have happened to you if she was not with you!! Well, toodles." Mettaton flew away out then came back as he remembered something. "Oh, yes. About the substitution... Haven't you ever seen a cooking show before?"

"Nuh-uh." Kari replied.

"Well, I baked a cake ahead of time. So just forget it."

"Oh..." Kari began to land her jetpack. Once she was safely on the ground again Kari's cellphone went back to normal and Alphys called her.

"Wow... We did it... We really did it!" Alphys sounded happy. "Great job out there, team!!" Kari giggled.

"Yeh! Thanks for the help Alphys." Kari smiled and began to walk to her right while she continued talking with Alphys for a moment or two, then hung up the phone and continued on her own. Kari sighed as she takes Chase out of her silver knapsack while eating some food for lunch and drinking a bottle of water. She then looked at the wallet Toriel gave her. Kari sighed contently as she noticed that there was only about six hundred pieces of gold coins, more than she was able to count, which she took as a good sign since it meant she had a bunch of money. After she was finished eating she put her trash in the "trash pocket" of her knapsack and gripped onto Chase then began to press onwards. About thirteen minutes later Kari noticed a strange metal structure in the distance to her left. The child stared at it for a while until the ring tone of her cell phone snapped her out of her thoughts. It was Alphys on the other end.

"I-I see you n-noticed that b-b-building in the distance." Kari nodded.

"Yeh. What is it?"

"Oh, th-th-that's the core. It's the source of all power in the underground. You see it, converts geothermal energy into magical electricity by... erm... uh you probably have no idea what I'm saying, do you?"

"Geo-what now?" Kari scrunched her face in confusion. Alphys sighed on the other end of the call.

"Just be careful because you'll need to go through there to get to the castle and back home." Kari nodded.

"Right! Thanks Alphys!" Kari smiled happily and ended the call to continue walking.

Power... mine...

Kari stopped walking and looked around with a confused expression.

"Hello?" She called.

She heard us?

Mine, mine, mine, mine, mine!!

Hey no, stop!!

Kari frowned. "Uh... Who are you?"

POWER!!! MINE!!! I CAN FINALLY---

Stop it now! Kari, listen. You need to get out of here quickly or---

Kari began to feel her head throbbing. She let out a groan.

Damnit, this isn't good... Help!

Someone came.

Six heart shapes surrounded Kari in a circle, glowing brightly and each giving Kari a green item that helped her. Kari felt her head begin to ease and she quickly felt better, but she felt different.

"... What just happened?" The child asked with dulled, distant eyes. "Why do I feel so... Wait... I'm out... I'm out... Hah! FINALLY!!! HAH I WIN FRISK!! I WIN!!!" The child that appeared to be Kari laughed maniacally. "THE POWER! THE STRENGTH!! IT'S ALL MINE, MINE, MINE!!!!"

Oh no... Where's Kari? We need to find Kari now.
