Kari slowly opened her eyes with a moan and looked around. Her vision was blurry and her head was pounding.
"M-my h-head... Huuuurts." Kari mumbled and slowly sat up. Her vision soon adjusted and she looked around the area.
"Oh, good morning human!" A familiar voice called as Papyrus walked towards Kari with a wide smile. Kari just stared with a shocked expression. "What? Oh, Sans brought you here. Your leg was hurt pretty bad, are you alright?" Papyrus asked and Kari just nodded. "You hungry?"
"Y-yeh!" Kari called happily with a wide, childish smile. Papyrus nearly squealed because she was so enthusiastic.
"Well, fear not! For your cool friend Papyrus will make you some spaghetti for breakfast!" He called then rushed to the kitchen. Kari giggled at the thought of spaghetti for breakfast and stood up only to fall flat on her face with a thud.
"Ow!" Kari squeaked and pushed herself up with shaking arms, which gave out, and her face met the floor again. "Oomph!"
"Careful kiddo. You might've been able to walk yesterday, but today is when you really feel your own pain." A voice called and Kari was picked up and then put on the couch. Kari looked up to see Sans with his usual wide smile.
"Hi Sans." Kari smiled and Sans nodded his head while ruffling Kari's head gently.
"How'd you sleep, Kari?" He asked kindly while sitting down next to her.
"I slept good." Kari replied and looked at her leg. The new bandages that were around the gash in her leg had a small red dot on them and Kari sighed. Her stomach then growled and Sans chuckled.
"Spaghetti's ready!" Papyrus called then rushed in with a plate on his head and one plate in each hand like a waiter. Kari clapped her hands while she was given a plate, then Sans got a plate and finally Papyrus got his plate from atop his own head. The three ate together happily. Every now and again Sans would tell a bad pun and Papyrus would groan in slight anger. Kari just giggled lightly, then began to dive deep into her own thoughts. "Hey, human." Papyrus said and Kari looked up with a hum. "I have a question. What's the surface like?" Everyone was silent. Kari narrowed her eyes, as if unamused or tired, and turned her head back to look at her food. "H-human?" Kari closed her eyes and began to think. What WAS the surface like? Kari began shaking as a frown crept onto her face.
"I-I..." Kari began in a small tone. "I d-don't remember." Kari sniffled and the two skeletons stared at her. "E-everytime I try to think about home it hurts. I try to think about it but all I can think of are mommy and daddy... Not what they LOOK like but what they SOUND..." Kari gulped and put on a bitter smile. "B-but at least I know something. A-and maybe I'll remember everything one day..." Kari giggled and Papyrus looked at Kari with a small frown.
"Human, I'm sorry."
"Don't worry about it, Papyrus. I'm fine. Honest!" Kari said then began to eat again. Sans gave a sad expression, but quickly shook it off and smiled widely. Once the three were done eating Kari watched some TV with Sans while Papyrus was out front, shoveling some snow and keeping busy. Sans and Papyrus both made sure Kari did not leave since she was too hurt to go, but that did not mean she did not try to leave. Every now and again, Sans would get up to get something from the kitchen, usually a new soda. When he did this Kari stood up and limped to the front door quickly so she could try and get home, but Sans would walk back in from the kitchen and sigh when she was almost half way from the couch to the front door. His left eye then began glowing a bright light blue color and he then lifted her up with his abilities, put her back down on the couch, and wrapped her in the blue fuzzy blanket Toriel packed for the child, which she had been using for her journey.
She did, however, make it outside once throughout the whole day. She tripped on her scarf while walking down the steps and fell face first into the snow. Papyrus was nearby when the crunching of snow caught is attention. He turned to see the child's legs sticking up from the ground and crossed his arms with a grumble. Papyrus picked the girl up and carried her back inside while scolding her, saying that she needed to rest and that she would only get more hurt. Papyrus then scolded Sans for not watching Kari and stormed back outside. After that Sans did not leave Kari's side much. When he did leave he stayed within view so he could see what she was doing. Hours passed and Kari was asleep due to energy loss for trying to leave so she could continue her journey. She leaned lazily on the couch with a tired moan while she slept peacefully.
Sans glanced over to Kari and chuckled, then laid her down and pulled her blanket over her, then finally gave her Chase to snuggle with. A small smile grew on her face and Sans went out to check on Papyrus. The taller skeleton was nowhere in sight, but his voice could be heard as well as Undyne's voice. Sans gulped then listened in on the conversation.
"Ugh, I was so close to catching that human!" Undyne growled. "So close. But she did this weird thing and my magic spear vanished and I couldn't summon another one! I hope you've been having better luck Papyrus." Undyne sighed.
"Nope. Sorry Undyne." Papyrus replied in a slightly nervous tone. Undyne grumbled then began to approach the front door. Sans scrambled inside to find that Kari was not on the couch, neither was her blanket. He looked around, only to find her floating above the couch inches away from the ceiling with her blanket on her. Sans used his abilities to bring her down then to put her in his room. He rummaged through his things then found an old black hoodie and put it on Kari. It was very big on her, but it did hide the fact that she was human. The hoodie did not cover her past her ankles, but Sans was too busy trying to hide her to notice.
Sans then put Kari on a mat, since his bed was covered in stuff at the moment, and covered her up. When Sans exited his room he saw Undyne sitting on the couch, talking to Papyrus. Undyne was not wearing her armor, but instead she wore a black tank top, dark blue jeans, and brown boots with golden buckles.
"--then that little brat-- Oh, hey Sans."
"Sup." Sans replied then realised Kari's things were near Undyne. Papyrus was keeping her occupied so she would not notice, but that would not last for long. Sans went down stairs and scooped up the silver knapsack then made his way back upstairs.
"Hey, Sans. What's that you're holding?" Undyne asked and Papyrus shivered while Sans widened his eyes for a moment then turned to face the two with his usual smile. "It... Looks..!" Undyne stood up with a growl and made her way upstairs, shoved Sans out of her way, kicked down Papyrus's door and looked around. "Where?!" She called out then went to Sans's room. She kicked down the door and saw Kari sleeping on a mat in a black hoodie. Undyne knew it was Kari because her feet were not covered and she recognized the symbols. Undyne began to summon a spear when both skeleton brothers rushed in and held her back.
"Undyne, please don't kill her!" Papyrus whined. Undyne growled and began to struggle. "She's our friend, Undyne!" Kari began to groan as she woke up.
"Looks like the kid's wakin up..." Sans said bluntly and Kari sat up with a yawn. She rubbed her eyes then looked at the three to her left with a tired expression.
"Heeeyyy..." Kari said and yawned again. Papyrus smiled nervously. "Oh, hi. Undyne right?" Kari smiled then stood up shakily and then held out her hand to shake Undyne's hand. Sans sighed and used his abilities to get Kari off of her leg so she would not strain herself. Undyne just stared and dissolved her magic spear and shook Kari's hand hesitantly while the brothers slowly released Undyne.
"You're not gonna kill the human, right?" Papyrus asked sadly and Undyne nodded slowly.
"I don't know why, but... There's something telling me not to." Undyne replied in a low tone and Kari giggled with a wide smile. Undyne, Papyrus, Sans, and Kari then went down stairs for a while. It was dinner time at this point so Papyrus and Undyne decided to make soup while Sans and Kari, who was still wearing Sans's old black hoodie, did a few puzzles together. Well, more like Kari did the puzzles on the floor happily and Sans watched her from the couch with a chuckle while the TV played.
Eventually dinner was ready and the four ate together happily. Undyne felt weird eating with a human but she slowly got used to it. Undyne had to go home not long after they were finished eating. She said her goodbyes and left. Kari looked up at Sans and Papyrus then blinked.
"She's nice." Kari giggled and the brothers shrugged.
"She is pretty cool. Not as cool as me though! Nyeh heh heh!" Papyrus called and Kari giggled. Sans rolled his eyes at the scene.
"Got that right bro." He said. Kari was then tucked in about an hour later then the brothers went to their own rooms and fell asleep.
