Chapter 34 -- "I love you."

RE-CAP

"You want to sleep on the couch; I want to sleep next to you. Really, it's the only option." I teased mockingly, pretending to close my eyes and bring my hand to rest underneath my cheek, "Goodnight."

"You know, that's kind of the most romantic thing you've ever said to me."

I snorted, "You're such a girl."

"Oh really?" He muttered, before my eyes snapped open as I was suddenly pulled up and manpowered so that Chris was able to stand with me in his arms, "Could a girl do this?

Laughing, I demanded for him to put me down as he strolled with ease into my bedroom; pulling back the covers and placing me into my slightly cold bed before throwing the covers back on top of me and making his way to the other side.

Still chuckling, I turned to lie facing him as he got comfy in my king sized bed, "Alright, so you're a strong girl."

"You bet your ass." He mocked back, leaning forward and pressing his lips briefly to mine, "'Night, English."

"Night, Rover." I whispered in return, as an arm was slipped around my waist and I was pulled closer to his bare chest. Taking a deep breath, I breathed in his scent and let out a content sigh as a small smile graced my lips.

Everything was falling into place...

Chapter 34

Danny's POV

It had been around six months since baby Sunny had been born, and I had to admit that was probably the best six months I'd had in a very long time. After officially moving in with Chris at the house, as soon as Lilly was safe to travel she and Sunny also packed their bags and came to join us in Ohio at Toby's new home (Turns out members don't have to purchase homes if within the walls of the community. They are either given houses which fit to their needs or are allowed to choose lots of land in order to build their own homes; rent free! They were just given the deed to the house/ lot and were required to merely pay bills and tax. And even then the bills weren't that high as all houses had solar panels for electricity and each home had a water reservoir in their back gardens! Damn, I should've gotten me one of them houses years ago...)

It had taken a couple of weeks getting used to the move, but in the end we'd all come to grips with our new lives; sort of. I somehow managed to start up business again by taking commissions and working from home, and I was in fact considering renting out an office complex in town in order to get business moving along.

My apartment in New York was still under my name (Much to Chris' grumbling), and I'd managed to have a word with the building owner convincing him to allow me to purchase the condo rather than rent it (And that cost me a pretty penny I'll tell you). Even though I lived in Ohio now, I still wanted something to call my own and to return to whenever I felt like going on a little vacation.

Lilly, as predicted, was an amazing mum. Much better than ours was and twice as loving. Damien was currently being put on trial for attempted murder, possession of an illegal fire-arm and drug possession (Who'dve known?), and Dad had finally replied to Lilly two weeks after the birth; stating congratulations and asking if they were both healthy. After a reply from Lilly and a request to come see his grand-daughter, a promise was made that he'd attempt to come over sometime this year however he was currently travelling Europe with his new wife.

Nice. (Note the sarcasm)

And I've got to admit, Toby had really pulled through these last couple of months. He'd treated both girls as if they were princesses and rightfully so. He'd gotten a full-time job at the local mechanic and was now making decent money as Lilly took computer classes at home to finish her education while taking care of the baby, who was growing far too quickly for my liking.

Other than our three new mouths in the community, very little had happened over the past couple of months. Chris had been working on trying to catch the people who had hired Tinsley and the soldier, as well as the people who had kidnapped Chris, amputated Steve and killed a good dozen men. In fact, he was leaving tomorrow for a two day trip to discuss something with a neighbouring pack about six hours drive away. Which leads me to today...

Oh, God. I hated today.

Leaning over the sink, I splashed cold water over my sweating face and neck; breathing deeply and trying to control the pounding in my head. I had woken up this morning feeling hot and clammy, my abdomen cramping badly and my head pounding. Chris was already up and downstairs, so after wobbling over to the bathroom en-suite, I shut and locked the door before fanning my navy tank-top slightly in an attempt to cool myself down.

Not working, I ended up kicking off my pyjama bottoms and leaning heavily over the sink in nothing but my top and knickers. Checking quickly, I confirmed that it couldn't have been my period as it had just been and there was no evidence of a sneak attack, so I concluded that it must've been the bug that was going round. Continuing to spray cold water over my face, I contemplated just taking a cold shower instead. Grabbing the green towel I'd placed in the bathroom last week, I gently pated my face dry before blowing out a huge breath and looking at my reflection in the large mirror of the sink; taking in my appearance and cringing slightly.

My hair was up in a messy ponytail from sleeping in it all night, my skin pale and glistening from sweat and my eyes slightly blood-shot. I took another deep breath and couldn't help but groan slightly as a shooting pain hit my abdomen. Blood Hell, what was that?

Opening the medicine cabinet I had installed a few months ago, I shakily grabbed a couple of pain-killers and popped them into my mouth before ducking beneath the tap and taking a mouthful of water to swallow them down.

Making a face, I screwed the lid back on and shook it off before placing the bottle back on the little shelf and closing the cabinet.

"English? You alright?" Chris' voice suddenly called, a small knock sounding from the other side of the door. I jumped slightly at the voice, and nearly collapsed at the sudden feeling pooling in my lower abdomen. However this wasn't from pain, but from the sudden pleasure which had taken over my nether-regions; eyes widening as a new layer of sweat for a completely different reason began to form over my skin.

HOLY CRAP!

"Y-yeah... "I replied shakily, slumping down on the closed toilet and not fully comprehending the situation. What the Hell was happening?!

"You sure? You sound... off." He called again, quickly followed by another wave of desperate need which caused my arm to throw itself out and grab onto the counter of the sink and squeeze hard. I doubled over and breathed heavily as I spread my legs slightly and pressed heavily into the ground.

I couldn't tell him what I was feeling! And besides, he'd only worry and he'd cancel the trip tomorrow which he seriously needed to go on, "I'm fine! I think I caught the bug or something."

"Danny, let me in."

"No!" I yelled before thinking, another wave hitting me and I gasped loudly, "It's nothing.  Besides you might catch it and you've got a lot of shit to do tomorrow--"

"--I'm not going anywhere if you're ill, Danny. So let me in."

"I'm not ill!"

"Danny..." He warned, and by that point I was surprised I wasn't leaking all over the pan. Holy Shit! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT!

"Just send Yvane up or something. Please, I'll see you when you get back tonight and I'll prove to you I'm fine, okay?" I managed to hiss out, rubbing my thighs together in an attempt to lessen the pressure. I was seriously biting back a moan as I did the worst thing possible and imagined Chris topless with the 'V' running down to his--

"Alright, fine. But promise you'll call if it gets worse."

I nodded and held back a whimper, "Mhmm."

"I'll see you later, English. I love you."

"Love you, too." I replied, breathing heavily while almost doubling over in an attempt not to just rip the door off it's hinges and lunge at the man. After hearing his foot-falls leave the room almost an entire minute later, I took in a deep-breath and gradually felt the pain return; until the last couple of minutes felt like nothing had happened. "Oh, shit."

In an attempt to forget the pain, I squeezed my eyes shut and thought back to the day about a month ago in which Chris and I had finally uttered the three dreaded words which both of us had had niggling in the back of our minds for a while.

FLASHBACK

"Danielle?"  A familiar voice suddenly called, breaking the laughter Chris and I had been previously sharing over our made up stories on why a man kept sniffing a coat sleeve a few racks away. Turning around confused, my eyes nearly popped out of their sockets as they landed on the guy I had least expected to see in a shopping centre in Ohio.

"Tom?!" I cried, before lunging at the bean-pole and squeezing the life out of him. "Oh My God, what are you doing in America?"

The British man smiled and laughed before returning the hug, "I'm on holiday! Holy shit, look at you! You look great!"

"You're not so bad yourself, beanpole." I teased back, pulling away and taking a proper look at my childhood friend. He really was, for lack of a better term, a bean-pole. But I'll admit, he was a handsome one. His shaggy brunette hair was now grown out and his dimples were still there in full force but now with a layer of stubble dusted on top. His tall and lanky figure suited him, and I couldn't picture him any other way than he was now;  wearing a brown trench coat with what looked like a jumper and jeans underneath, converses on his feet just as always. Some things don't change...

A sudden cough broke my gaze, as I turned to find Chris standing behind us with an impassive expression on his face, watching both of us like a hawk, "Oh Chris! This is Tom, a very old friend of mine. Tom, meet Chris... my ugh, boyfriend."

Chris' nostrils flared at my hesitation with he title 'boyfriend', however I couldn't think of what to call him since 'Mate' wouldn't really go down well with a human, so every time I had to introduce him to one I struggled to think of what to call him since he hadn't exactly asked me to be his girlfriend.

"Wow, boyfriend! That's a first." Tom laughed, before stepping forward and holding his hand out to shake. I half expected Chris to slap it away however he did the polite thing and returned it.

"Really?" Chris replied with a chuckled, however the humour did not reach his eyes.

Tom winced slightly as I sense that Chris squeezed his hand a bit too hard in which I sent a warning look. Once letting go, I intervened before the conversation escalated to something that did not need to be treaded on.

"So how long are you here for?" I asked, turning to Tom with a smile. I saw him last almost ten years ago and had missed him dearly, considering he was one of my best friends before I was shipped off to military school.

"Another week. How about you?"

"Rest of my life probably, I live here now." I explained, gesturing to Chris as I did. That should make him happy, right?

"Seriously? Wow, that's brilliant! What happened to the military? I thought you were in abroad getting shot at somewhere, what happened?" He asked, eyebrows furrowing as he stuffed his hands in his pockets.

I shrugged, "I got shot."

"For real?!" he cried, taking a step back and looking me up and down as if to asses my health. I couldn't help but laugh as I shook my head.

"It's kind of a long story."

"Well then," He said, suddenly digging into his pocket before taking out a card and handing it to me, "Fancy meeting up for lunch to discuss?"

I smiled at his request, taking the card from his hand, "Sure! I'll give you a call."

"Great! Well, I better go; remember, lunch." He persisted, before waving and making his way out of the store. Waving back, I turned to look at Chris with a scowl.

"What was that?" I demanded, not liking his attitude.

His mouth twitched slightly before he merely shrugged and turned to the till, "Come on, it's getting late."

"Chris..." I warned, following him as he paid for the items he'd bought then made his way out of the shop, ""This is about Tom, isn't it?"

"I don't know what you mean."

I scowled at his cold tone, "Chris don't be that guy."

"What guy?" He snapped back over his shoulder, shoving his way through the throng of people in order to get outside. It was dark now, at around 9PM the mall was starting to close however people still wondered around the stores last minute.

"That guy!" I repeated in anger, matching my pace right behind him, "The guy who get's paranoid the minute I even say hi to another male."

He scoffed at that, "Yeah, that was a very intimate hi you just had there. Very casual."

"I hugged him! After not seeing him almost ten years! Do you seriously not trust me to hug a friend?" I cried in frustration, as we finally stepped out of the shopping centre and into the raining night. I had to admit, his sudden possessiveness and treatment of me and my friend upset me slightly. Did he really not trust me that much?

Chris had ignored the downpour and merely intended to carry on through the rain before hearing my question, stopping and hesitating slightly before I visibly saw him sigh and turn around, "Of course I do it's just..."

"Just what Chris?"

"... If I was to randomly go up to a girl you don't know and hug like you did to that guy, can you honestly say you'd be completely happy with it?"

I was stumped by his words. My comeback died in my throat as I thought about if Chris just randomly lunged himself at a pretty girl like I had at Tom. I'll admit, it didn't sound very pleasant, even though I trusted Chris not to anything I still kind of felt bad for doing what I did without taking him into consideration. However, this was my life, and I wasn't about to let someone else dictate who I spoke to and what I did with them within reason. So, I did what the stubborn me always does.

I lied.

"Well... yeah."

Silence fell between us at my words, Chris' face falling into one of disbelief which made me instantly regret my words, "Of course you'd be... why would you care, right?"

"...Chris--"

"No!" He actually, snapped taking a few steps towards me with his face twisted in anger, "I'm actually curious. Why would you care? Because I'm your boyfriend? Cause you sure as Hell didn't look entirely happy about that earlier."

"No!" I cried, not liking where this conversation was headed. My chest hurt at his expression, and I was growing desperate to calm him down, "I only hesitated because I don't know what to call us to humans!"

"Oh, bullshit!"

"No, not bullshit! You never asked, Chris." I snapped back, stepping into the rain and soaking my dress and heels; the only thing protecting me from the rain being my blazer which wasn't exactly doing a good job at that point.

"Well then, why?" He repeated, as I stared at his slowly drenched form beneath the growing downpour. I tried to form words as a reply, my mouth not cooperating as I stood with my chest aching and eyes slightly stinging.

GODDAMMIT DANNY, DON'T CRY!

My mouth still wouldn't cooperate, and after a few moments of silence I saw his mouth purse in anger, "Why?!"

"Because I love you!" I yelled in frustration, the words which had been playing in my mind for so long finally tumbling out, my body freezing from the sudden realisation of my confession.

I'd known for weeks that I'd finally fallen for the werewolf, the crunch point being that I allowed him to eat my toast one morning. It was so random, but while I was in the kitchen munching on toast about a fortnight ago, he came in (Shirtless might I add) and grabbed a slice. I stared at him, expecting the cry of outrage to bubble up from my throat. But nothing came. And watching his slightly growing smirk as he stuffed my toasted bread in his mouth, made me realise how this man had changed my life.

And how I'd never been happier with another living-being.

"What?" he choked out after an awkward silence, my chest panting slightly as all the bubbled up emotions inside started to pour out.

Not wanting to chicken out, I turned my embarrassment to anger as my eyes narrowed and my feet began to make their way through the rain towards him. Once I reached his frozen form, I shoved his chest out of frustration, "I love you, you idiot. That's why I care! Is that a good enough reason? Or does that not fall into your category of satisfaction--"

Before I could finish, a pair of lips crashed down onto mine; effectively ending my rant. The slightly chapped lips moulded against mine heavily and hard, his tongue almost immediately asking for entrance which I reluctantly granted. The kiss was almost bruising, as his hand came and tangled itself in my wet hair and the other snagged around my waist.

A kiss in the rain... kind of cliché but I wasn't complaining.

After a few minutes, I began to crave oxygen (A problem that I needed to start working on) and so pulled away from the taller than me shifter with hooded eyes and slightly swollen lips. Darting my tongue out to lick them, he brought our foreheads together and stared at me for a few moments of silence under the downpour.

"...You're kind of leaving me hanging here, Rover." I teased awkwardly after a few moments, trying to lighten the mood slightly and at the same time catch my breath. Damn, now that's what I call a kiss.

"I f***ing love you, Danielle Perkins." He practically growled back, tightening his hold on me further and brining me closer to his body if that was even possible.

"Oh, good." I chuckled out in relief, my heart lifting and the dragons going bat-shit crazy in my stomach as I brought his now wet lips back to mine. Kissing him deeply, a thought suddenly occurred to me which caused me to break away breathlessly, "By the way, Tom? Came out in 2019."

"Oh, thank God." He growled once more, before picking me up and crashing his lips back to mine which caused an amused squeal to escape my lips.

Fair to say, that was a beginning of a new chapter in our lives...

***FLASHBACK END***

Gulping loudly while trying to simultaneously take a large breath, sweat was practically dripping down my face as I leaned over the sink with pieces of my hair sticking to the nape of my neck and my forehead.

I once again turned on the faucet and began splashing my face with cold water in an attempt to cool myself down. It worked, but I couldn't stay away from the water for more than a few minutes before the fever came back at full force.

It had been months since Chris and I confessed, and ever since he wasn't in the habit of letting me forget. It wasn't anything big, just little things like the fresh-flowers he'd get me ever week; which now had a permanent spot in the little art room he made for me a few weeks back. I remember coming home one day to find a very excited Christopher smiling like the Cheshire cat while covered in paint and plaster. I was freaked out at first since the paint was red and resembled blood, however the fact he was smiling even heightened my confusion.

I'll be honest; I began to worry he was Sadist.

That worry escalated when he covered my eyes and began to lead me upstairs claiming he had a surprise in store. After stumbling around for a good few moments contemplating my death, we finally came to a stop in front of a door in which he opened and removed his hands from my eyes, exclaiming a loud 'tah-dah' in the process.

Taking a moment to adjust, my eyes widened at the sight in front of me. What had once been an old guest room which was barley been used, was now a full blown art studio/ office thing. The walls were now painted a soft cream colour, with white furniture adorning the room along with a countertop-island in the middle which had on it a bouquet of pink lilies and enough cabinets and filing systems to store the entirety of the pentagon's secrets.

My easel and desk had been moved into the room, and what had once been just a bay window had now turned into a bay window AND window seat; with various cushions and pillows placed on top to add to the colour-scheme.

"I can't... oh my God..." I breathed out, staring at the spacious room in front of me. The carpeted floor had been removed and replaced with hard-wood, giving the room an open and airy feel to it due to the sunlight streaming in through the window. "This is amazing, you made this?"

"Well, I can't take all the credit. Lucy helped design it." He shrugged, stepping forward and hugging my waist from the behind while placing his chin on my shoulder, "You like it?"

"I love it." I replied, turning and planting a long, deep kiss on his mouth, "Thank you."

"You're welcome. Besides, saves you from having to use the bedroom for painting, huh?" He chuckled, referencing to when he had opened the door to our bedroom about a fortnight ago only to slip and fall in a tray of green paint I had on the floor.

Yes, I'll admit it was my fault, but not to him.

Never to him.

Life was pretty good, and by pretty I mean amazingly. Well, it would be if I didn't feel as if Jack from Titanic was about to drown in my sweat.

"Holy shit..." I mumbled to myself, as my head pounded away like a jackhammer.

"Danny!" I heard a familiar voice from outside the door, "Danny, it's me. Chris said you weren't feeling too good; can you open the door?"

"Yeah. J-just give me a sec." I called back, glancing at myself in the mirror and deciding there wasn't even a point of attempting to salvage my appearance. Not even a little. Bracing myself, I turned off the faucet before staggering to the door and twisting the lock, opening it wide enough to see Yvane standing on the other side in some dress pants and a three quarter-sleeved shirt. "Hey."

"Holy f**k, what's wrong with you?" She cried, as a wave of vertigo hit me.

"Nice to see you, too." I mumbled, before stumbling forward and almost falling flat on my face if it wasn't for Yvane who grabbed me at the last second and stood me straight.

"No, I mean... shit. H-here, come lay down for a bit." She suggested, guiding me to the messy bed and plonking me down on the soft mattress. I didn't have the energy to complain as I slowly lay down on top of the quilt, too hot to be able to deal with the extra layer at that moment. "What's wrong exactly?"

I shook my head, taking deep-breaths and feeling my throat burn like Guy Fawkes had a grudge on it, "I don't know, but I don't know whether I want to throw-up or poop. It's hard for me to tell right now."

"Nice."

"Shut up, what's wrong with me?" I asked, regretting leaving the sink and it's cold-water.

I turned to see Yvane grabbing something from her bag and turning over to me, "I don't know yet. I'm just going to run some tests, okay?"

"Okay, just-- urgh." I groaned, as a particularly sharp spike hit my abdomen. My hands flew down to clutch my belly as my eyes scrunched up in pain. What was happening?!

"Hey, are you okay? Out of a scale of one to ten how much does it hurt?"

"F***ing ELEVEN!" I grunted out, curling into myself as the main thing I began to hear was my heart-beat in my own ears. I had no idea what was happening but I could honestly say I was not enjoying it, "Oh God!"

"Yvane! Grace keeps--" Cody suddenly cut-across, stepping into the room and freezing up when seeing my curled up figure. I didn't think much of it at the time, however after a few moments of silence I dared to glance up at the man with clenched teeth. He merely stood at the door way with his arms limp at his side, "Yvane... call Chris."

She merely looked up from her equipment with a panicked/ confused look, "What?"

"Call Chris... and lock the door until he arrives."

"Cody, now is not the time for joking--"

"Honey... I don't know how to say this lightly but..." He began awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck before he took a deep breath and closed his eyes in almost what looked like pain, "She's in heat."
