Chapter 4

We spent about 2 and a half hours studying and Lapis eventually convinced me to skip today's classes with her - I swear to god this girl is pure torture. I finally decided that now was a good time to ask her about the party. I looked up from my text book and hers was already closed, and she sat on the desk scrolling through her phone. Well, it's now or never.

"Hey Lapis..." "Hm." "So uh...my friends invited to me to a party and I, uh, don't really wanna go alone, and I was wondering if you'd wanna g-go with m-me?" I asked, twiddling my fingers. She looked at me for a moment, then laid on her back with a loud groan. "I dunno...parties aren't really my thing...the last time I went to a party things didn't go very well..." she said with distress in her voice, and I decided not to further question it.

"Come on, you can't let one bad experience ruin parties for you. It'll be fuuun..." I said, standing up from my spinny chair. "It was more than one..." she muttered, looking to the side with squinty eyes. "Please?" I begged. "Who wants to go to some obnoxious gathering with a bunch of drunk-ass strangers dancing to full-blast punk rock music? Not to mention all of the pranks, overly sexual games and barf." Lapis said, sitting up and putting her phone in her shirt.

"You don't find any of that fun?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "Hey...I like my fair share of drinking, listening to music, and practical jokes...but college parties can get outta hand sometimes...I'd rather have a blunt and keep myself company..." she explained, putting her hands behind her head. She seems so laid back about everything.

"Yeah...I understand..." I said sorrowfully, looking down at the floor. There was a few moments of silence until Lapis huffed. "Fine, I'll go to your dumb party..." she groaned. "But if I get drugged and end up missing all my classes tomorrow, it's gonna be your ass I'm after..." she said, pointing a finger in my face. I nodded quickly, trying not to blush from the unintentional innuendo she made. She seemed to not notice it, and walked into the bathroom.

....

7:30 PM

"Lapis, you ready?" I asked, knocking on the bathroom door. "Hold your friggin horses, Peri. I'll be right out." she said, and about 2 minutes later, she came out. She was wearing a black crop-top that read 'SLUNT' on it in bold grey letters, and she had dark blue ripped skinny jeans on with a silver chain hanging from the pocket. She also had an open blue lettermans jacket draping over her shoulders - it looked like it belonged to one of the football player guys here. "K let's bounce..." she said, walking toward the front door.

I was wearing my green flannel with a Pyrrha Nikos black t-shirt underneath. I also had dark grey skinny jeans and made sure my hair was gelled in that perfect triangular shape. I put in my favorite alien gages, and grabbed my phone and car keys as we walked out the front door. "Amethyst said that her friend Steven's dad wasn't home, so they're having the party at his little beach house a few blocks down." I explained as we walked to my car.

"Nice ride..." Lapis said, raising an eyebrow. "Heh, thanks." I said, feeling heat rush to my cheeks once again. I turned my head down and speed-walked to the vehicle, making sure she didn't notice anything. I hopped in the driver's seat as Lapis sat beside me in the passenger's. I turned the key in the ignition and the car started with a purr.

As I put the car in reverse, Lapis turned her head and looked at me with a small smile. I stared back at her, blushing. I snapped out of my trance once I heard a 'CLUNK' sound behind me. "WAHG!!! WHAT WAS THAT?!" I screeched, shooting my head backwards to see what made that startling sound. "You backed up into a garbage can." Lapis deadpanned, simply looking in the sideview mirror of her side. "Uh...whoops..." I muttered. "I was just gonna ask you if I could use your aux cord...." she snorted, looking at me like I was stupid - which I was.

"Oh! Y-yeah of course!" I said, a little too loudly might I add. I then cautiously backed out of the parking spot once again, not hitting any garbage cans this time. Lapis plugged my aux cord into her phone, and she was scrolling through it for a moment, then she played a song that was pretty familiar. "You like Coldplay?" I asked, as the first chimes of the song 'Paradise' sounded through the speakers. "Yeah, I love Coldplay..." she said, setting her phone down in the cup holder.

The drive was peaceful and only filled with the sound of the captivating music. Once the song ended, as if on cue, we arrived at the beach house near the ocean off a cliff-type mountain. Lapis unplugged her phone, I turned off the car, and we walked out together up to the house. There were a bunch of people outside of the house already drinking. I heard Lapis grunt, and we walked up to the steps and I knocked on the door. Nothing.

Blasting music could be heard from the inside, and I guess they didn't hear me knocking. I tried knocking louder, but there was still no answer. Lapis then gently pushed me out of the way and pounded the shit out of the door three times. A few moments passed by and the door eventually opened. "AYYYY P-DOT!!!" Amethyst drunkenly greeted. Lapis looked her up and down, and said nothing.

The chunky girl then looked Lapis up and down and raised her eyebrows. "This must be Lapis~" she purred, wiggling her eyebrows. I groaned and looked to the side. "Nice to meet ya, blue. Peri's talked a lot abo--" I put an arm around Amethyst roughly and fake-laughed. "AHAHAHA, YUP THIS IS MY FRIEND AMETHYST!" I shouted through gritted teeth, giving her a shut the hell up look behind my smile.

"Pleasure." Lapis deadpanned, putting a hand on her hip with a straight face. "Sassy~" Amethyst muttered slyly, and I stomped on her foot, causing her to yelp. "Welp looks like we're gonna head inside so I'll see you in a while, alright?" I told Amethyst, pulling Lapis by the wrist into the house quickly.

A tall, thin blonde guy was blasting Slipknot through his tall black speakers. People surrounded the speakers and were dancing with glowsticks around their necks, in their hands, and on the floor. "Do you want a drink?" I asked Lapis. "Sure, why not?" she replied, shrugging loosely. "'K, I'll be right back," I told her. I got us each a solo cup of IPA beer and when I came back, I almost blew a fuse.

Some tall, tan and handsome buffoon was flirting with Lapis, and she looked extremely uninterested - not to mention uncomfortable. "C'mon baby, come dance with the one and only Kevin. Daddy'll show you what he's got~" he purred, putting a hand on her hip as she flinched. SPLASH! One moment I was standing there furiously, the next Kevin was drenched in the liquid that was previously in my cup.

"What the hell?!" he yelped, shivering. "Back off, fuckboy." I deadpanned, glaring at him. He scoffed, and walked away giving me the stank eye. "Th-thanks..." Lapis muttered, smiling as I handed her the only full cup I had left. "I'm gonna go refill mine, hehe..." I muttered, walking away once again. Once I was at the table again, Amethyst was standing there with a beer bottle in her hand. "Sup, Peri. How're things goin' with blue?" she asked, putting a hand on her hip.

"Well, we haven't even been here for ten minutes and some guy was already giving her bedroom eyes and asking her to dance..." I groaned, filling my cup up. "Well...ya gotta make your move sooner then, champ. Otherwise she might be goin' home with some other dude tonight..." she said. "Agh, you're right. I don't think this party was a very good idea...she's not really having any fun..." I grumbled.

"Nonsense, man. You gotta show her that you're having fun, then once she sees what she's missin' out on, you got it in the bag." Amethyst explained, blowing a chunk of her hair out of her face. "You really think that'll work? I don't think she could care less if I'm having fun or not..." I said, looking to the side. "Just trust me on this, dude." she reassured, putting a hand on my shoulder sluggishly.

....

"WOOOHOOO!! SUCK IT BITCHES!!!" I slurred, as the ping pong ball landed into the solo cup. I took another shot and slammed it down as a shit ton of people cheered in the back. I drunkenly wobbled over to the kitchen again and took out my seventh beer from the fridge. I couldn't remember how much alcohol I had surging through my system, but I didn't really care at the moment.

I then stopped walking for a moment and realized something - Where's Lapis?! I thought that she had been watching me the whole time, but I looked around and she was nowhere in sight. Oh no. WHAT IF SHE WENT HOME WITH SOME DOUCHE LIKE AMETHYST SAID?! I started panicking and ran up to Amethyst. "Have you seen Lapis?!" I shouted in her face, shaking her shoulders.

"Naw man, I thought she was with you..." she said, shrugging. "I looked all over and she's nowhere to be found!" I whimpered, pacing back and forth. "O-okay, calm down dude...I'll see what I can do..." she said, losing her cool slightly. "Yo, Pearl! Get a search party goin' for Peri's roommate!" Amethyst shouted to her girlfriend. Pearl just grunted and started telling people to look for her.

"EVERYONE SEARCH FOR A HOT CHICK WITH BLUE HAIR!!!" Amethyst shouted at the top of her lungs, and the bustling of the party went from 0-100 in literally three seconds. I couldn't find her anywhere in the house, so I ran outside and checked around the lawn, but all I saw were more drunk kids and burning garbage. Maybe she's at the beach, I thought. "LAPIS!!! LAPIS!!!" I called, walking down the beach, sand filling my converse shoes. I cringed at the unsatisfying feeling, but kept walking.

There was an abandoned surf shack at the edge of the beach and I saw someone sitting on the roof - LAPIS! I ran over to the shack and climbed on the pipes and bars of the back of the rickety building. I grunted and squeaked as I finally made my way to the top, and landed on my back on the roof with an 'oof'. Her knees were up to her chest and her arms were wrapped around them. She seemed to be in a trance, gazing at the stars above us in a peaceful mood.

"H-hey...you've been here the whole time?" I asked, climbing to my feet and standing there. "Yeah...I actually come here often...to get away from the noise...the stress..." she muttered with a sigh. "Beautiful view..." I said, as I took a look over the sandy beach and up at the cosmos. She was probably here after her classes a couple days ago, I thought, remembering that she didn't get home until after I fell asleep.

"I've been looking everywhere for you..." I said, putting my hands behind my back. "Sorry...just didn't think you needed me there...so I left..." she said, looking down. "Well to be honest, I'd much rather be here than in that house..." I said, chuckling. She looked at me for a moment, and I stared into her blue eyes. "Can I be honest with you for a sec?" she suddenly asked. "Y-yeah of course..." I said, trying not to tremble. I sat down beside her.

"The reason I freaked when I saw your brother...w-was because he's my ex-boyfriend..." she said, looking down. "W-what...?" I asked, making sure I wasn't hallucinating from all the alcohol. "You and my brother...d-dated?" I asked. "Yeah...it was one of the biggest mistakes of my life..." she said, looking down again. "W-what happened?!" I asked. Why would my brother break up with this girl?! Why would this girl date him in the first place?!

"At first we thought we were so in love...b-but eventually we could never get along." I scooted a little closer without making it too obvious. "I verbally abused him. He physically abused me...it was just never meant to be...he used to hit me, grab my wrist, slap me...he'd even burn me with cigarettes sometimes..." Lapis said, and she pulled up her jacket sleeve and showed me a scar that looked pretty deep. "I-I'm so sorry..." I muttered.

Lapis waited a few moments, and took off her jacket and placed it down. She then turned her back to me and pulled her shirt up, showing me more scars across her back. My eyes went wide, and I mindlessly raised my hand, and running my fingers over them. Her skin was so warm. She flinched and shuddered at the touch and I immediately wanted to pull away, but she let out a relaxed sigh, signaling to me that it was okay.

She eventually pulled her shirt down and turned back around, putting the jacket back on. "I oughta tell him off for this..." I grumbled, balling my fists. "No no no, d-don't tell him I told you, okay? It's over and it's done..." she said. "But he's my brother, Lapis. Its not right for him to do this and get out of it without a scratch. He's not gonna kill me..." I said trying to reassure her. "But he'll kill me...can we just keep this between us...please?" she begged, giving me puppy dog eyes. My whole body was trembling and I almost peed my pants.

"F-fine...but I'll make sure he's never around you...okay?" I told her. Lapis gave me a small smile and looked at me for what felt like forever. "Ya know Peridot...you're cool..." she said, mindlessly scooting closer to me. I smiled wide and internally screeched. "Wow thanks..." I muttered in a trembly voice, blushing. I felt my heart beating at about 100 miles per hour.

Lapis must've noticed my extreme happiness because I could've sworn I saw a small blush on her face and she quickly turned her head, her smile fading. "THERE YOU GUYS ARE!!! ARE YOU GUYS MAKIN' OUT UP THERE OR WHAT?!" we all of a sudden heard Amethyst's raspy voice shout from down on the ground. "AMETHYST!!!" I growled, looking over the rooftop. Lapis remained silent as I continued mind absently yelling curses at her.

I then felt my foot slip, and next thing I knew, I fell forward and off of the roof. "WAHHHHHH!!!!!!" I screeched as the ground came closer and the edge of the roof was then out of my reach. Amethyst's eyes grew wide and before she could move out of the way, I landed right onto her, both of us shouting and groaning in pain.

A few moments later, Lapis climbed down from the shack roof and walked up to us. "Are you guys okay?!" she asked. "Take me home." I groaned, rolling off of Amethyst but not moving from my spot on the ground. Lapis grunted, and put her hand behind my back and her other one under my knees, lifting me up bridal style. "I'm never going to another party of yours again." she deadpanned, and we left the beach and went back to the car.
