The following day it was the Annual Carnival and Caroline was neurotically trying to micro-manage everything. During the whole thing, Jeremy grabbed Elena and told her that they had to clue in the rest of their friend group about the supernatural lore. At the same night, Caroline threw the idea that she wanted to turn to be stronger and able to protect their friends and not be so reliant on Stefan and his brother because she didn't trust him after trying to bite her at the bonfire.

Elena asked Caroline with whose blood will she turn if she didn't want any of the Salvatores' to do it and the blonde answered with confidence;

"Slater's or Enzo's whoever wants to and feels comfortable doing it."

"Alright, let me talk to them." Elena sighed defeated. She knew that Caroline was always destined to be turned but it felt too soon to do so.

The rest of the night was uneventful and Elena managed to enjoy it. Only she got this weird vibe from Stefan, the distrust in his eyes and how he wasn't as affectionate as he should have been around that point of the timeline.

At night she was texting Enzo and Slater in their group email and she asked about either of them turning Caroline. Enzo said he was game while Slater said he wasn't comfortable and he hadn't changed many people throughout his life.

Enzo requested to be able to get to know Caroline a bit more before turning her so Elena decided to throw a sleepover with Enzo, Bonnie, Caroline and Elena for some time during the next month.

As for clueing the rest of the gang on the supernatural Elena wanted to ask the okay from Stefan and Damon since she's exposing their secret. So, she texted Stefan asking to ask Damon if they were okay to clue in Vicki, Matt and Tyler and Stefan asked about Jeremy and Elena said that John's antics broke the news to her brother.

She refused to reveal that Jenna knew in case they needed her as a secret weapon.

Damon said no but Stefan said he didn't mind so they were going to break the news the next day after school. After school, the next day, everyone were gathered at the Boarding House with a brooding Damon and they spilled the beans. Thankfully no mention of Elena's secret about her contacts was made but she saw Damon's judgy glares and she fought the urge to show him her middle finger. Vicki, Matt and Tyler wanted to some time to digest the news and understandably so.

In the end of the day she was in her room when she got a text saying they had a mission. She sighed deeply and got dressed and she teleported to the HQ where she put on her Kevlar

This current mission had to do with a remaining Augustine Society torture cell with werewolves, vampires and some witches. Enzo heard of it from his contacts and he was eager to help end their hell, a hell very similar to his. He didn't suit up even though he wanted to, Virginia cautioned him otherwise.

So, he was running a close-eyed op.

They drove for a lot of hours in those black vans and she was ready to start kick with the restless legs.

They arrived at the abandoned building and Elena eyed it in the night, she could hear the buzzing sound of high voltage being drawn.

"Why gotta be abandoned buildings the government uses for nefarious shit?" Elena asked annoyed and bored at her fellow witch and vampire agents, Anna Lewis and Collin Thomas.

"Because the US are paranoid as hell and hiding in plain sights always works?" Collin Thomas, the vampire, answered rhetorically and Elena side-eyed him before they refocused on the mission.

Sound wave devices were glued to the doors and a sub-frequent sound wave blew the doors causing almost no sound besides the glass shattering. The sound wave only hurt vampires' and werewolves' hearing and nobody else's.

Weaponized and burning with vengeance the team walked inside and started taking out the guards as quietly as they could. Their formation was to enter from any entrance, be it a door or window, like ants. It didn't took long for the silent alarm to be triggered and the cameras to come back online just as Elena raised her 45 and shot the camera praying there was no recording of her face. Unfortunately, it was.

They found the labs and everyone had to stop for a moment in horror and disgust. It was a horrible sight. People chained with masks on sucking their werewolf venom.

The witches had their blood drawn and so did the vampires.

Agents started to free up people and Collins Thomas had to shake Elena out of her shocked stupor. She was shaken and started free people and helping them get to the vans too.

For some weird reason the mission went off without a hitch.

After a mission she followed Anna Lewis to one her twin's gigs and she was surprised to learn that this party was thrown by one of the people from their universe who woke up after dying to this universe and they had their birthday, the birthday they never got the chance to celebrate before due to a little war called WW3.

Elena hadn't dressed anything fancy and the only reason she went to the party was because the mission had her adrenaline levels still pumping and she couldn't be able to sleep yet. Another way she used to combat it was long hours at the gym.

Roxane by Arizona Zervas was playing and Anna with Elena drinks in hands were dancing enjoying the vibes. Just as the song ended the Wellerman – Sea Shanty (TikTok Remix ft. 220 KID and Billen Ted) and Elena with Anna along with many others started singing along as loud as they could. Recalling the good ol'days.

Dancing towards the kitchen Elena found pieces of pizza and she with Anna ate while dancing. Quickly the mood change to a more mellow songs as the songs changed to 2021 summer hits especially the song "All I Think About Is You".

Elena and Anna sat by the couch with water bottles and just watched others slow dance.

"Do you know that I 2021 was the only year I have heard people say they felt calm-ish and safe before the uncertainty claimed all aspects of life?" Anna asked Elena with a tone that held both worry and fascination.

"I know, felt the same. You couldn't believe yet that 2020 had happened but at the same time Afghanistan happened and then during the summer were these horrible wildfires...it was a year in after-limbo limbo." Elena commented recalling a memory that had become a core memory of her soul, swimming in the sea while in the mountains surrounding her were ablaze and she looked up to see firefighting jets rushing to get to the fires, the feeling of smoke and the screams of people calling for help and just having fun at the beach mixing together.

Ed Sheeran – Bad Habits came on and Elena couldn't help get more lost in the core memory;

She had put this song on full blast in her headphones to drawn out the screams of people rushing to aid people as the fire that was burning in the village next to the beach had spread to the beach too. She and her family were just frozen watching it. Then her dad rushed to aid and then her mum started gathering their things.

She still fills the sting of the slap she got from her mother yelling at her to stop standing and start running to the car.

"Elena?" Anna's voice brought her out of her memories and turned to smiled sadly but Anna gently wiped tears from Elena's cheek shocking her.

"You are crying, why?" Anna asked confused.

"Nothing...it's just...I remember the wildfires, one stopped ten minutes from my house and I was travelling and our bus caught fire too. Both times those things happened I had this song playing." Elena admitted sadly and Anna's eyes looked shocked and engulf her in a hug.

After that Anna and Elena decided to call it a night. In her bed awaited Finn who was smiling sadly at her.

"Heard about the party. Remember watching you and the fires worried you might get hurt." Finn admitted softly and Elena snuggled to him.

"I wonder if Stefan smells me on you...." Finn wondered and Elena sighed.

"No, you have no smell, you're dead...deader than Stefan or Damon."

"Then how do you smell me?"

"I think is subconscious, my mind recalling your smell when you were alive."

"Good theory. Good night, now." Finn said as he gently got comfortable.

Sleep was easy, it felt so warm and comfortable and safe! Elena just wanted to stay there forever.
