Other than that, enjoy!!!
Marilena Dimitriadou or as she was commonly known as Lena, was a young woman who killed herself at the young age of 24 years old. Lena spent most of her life trying to survive an emotionally and sometimes physically abusive household. Where she had to play the role of the older child, the mother, the caretaker, the nurse and the maid, she played these roles so well and she was so focused on doing her bestowed duties to the best of her ability so she won't get reprimanded by her parents that whatever dreams about a future away from them seemed impossible so she never thought about it.
Teachers would ask kids what they wanted to be when they would grow up but Lena never had a true answer, she would say Archeologists just to satisfy the teachers' expectances. She didn't know what were her talents, what were her gifts.
Yes, she had a passion for writing and photography and as a young teen she would sometimes fantasize how nice it would be is she could become a writer and live somewhere alone and quietly. But by the time she was 18 and started looking for jobs she received so many rejections that it discouraged her and make her feel as if it was all pointless. And no one would hire her because she was inexperienced. Years went on and a pandemic came everything changed, another recession came and suddenly Lena found herself being 23 not 19 as when the whole pandemic started. And now people won't hire her because she was old and inexperienced!
So life has been kicking her in the balls! She's living with her parents who now are bit passive aggressive with their abuse. She had enough! She was never good for them and now she was burdening them.
So suicide it was!
For years she fantasized about suicide and ending it all, the pain, the tiredness, the guilt, the anxiety, the loneliness, depression and sadness. When she decided to kill herself she did her research, Google tried its best to deter her from killing herself by bombarding her with ads about mental health counseling and resources in her area, but she ignored them and kept studying.
She poisoned herself with wolfbane, a little every day in her meals, she was dead within a week and the corner couldn't detect why!
Lena expected nothingness afterwards but not waking up in the body of Elena Gilbert as a newborn baby!!!
Lena spent the first year of her new life confused and thinking things through. In her past life, haha, she had seen the show the Vampire Diaries, and so far everything looked the same. So, she guessed that in sixteen years she will look like Nina Dobrev which was awkward! Before her death, Lena had long black hair, dark brown eyes and was tall with relatively white skin due to not going out in the sun much... more like vitamin D3 deficient white. She wasn't anything gorgeous she was average.
So, looking like the beautiful Nina Dobrev felt like a nice surprise and also put a bit of a stressing feeling, how will she handle being noticed by guys? In her past life not only was she invisible to guys but girls too and pretty much everyone! Someone sat on her while she was sitting on a bench once for Christ's sake!
Alas, Lena tried her hardest not to withdraw into herself like she did in her past life. Somehow she accumulated a solid group of friends in Caroline Forbes and Bonnie Bennett with guest starring appearances from Matt Donovan and Tyler Lockwood and she was quite popular thanks to Caroline's social butterfly disposition.
And the years went on with Lena feeling safe because she knew what was coming so she enjoyed her free and happy years. She wasn't going to change much, she had four things she wanted to not allow to happen; one was Caroline meeting Damon and becoming his plaything, Bonnie's grandma dying, Vicki being turned into a vampire and then dying and letting Enzo rot in a cell and being experimented on.
She knew she couldn't stop her parents' deaths and she didn't want to because she theorized that if she did nothing of what was going to happen would happen. Klaus and the Salvatores took advantage of the fact that that the adults of this town weren't this concerned with their kids' safety but the Gilberts truly tried their hardest to keep them safe. They would have been an obstacle.
With these thoughts being decided by the time she was 10 years old, she decided to start looking into the Petrova family and what it meant to be a doubleganger. Visiting all the local libraries and writing down all the lore she could recall from the show, she had created a database both digital and on paper. She managed to get in touch with Slater although refused to meet in person so he wouldn't figure out that one; she was a child and two she was the doubleganger. Through long emails he taught her about the supernatural.
At the same time she requested from Grayson to put her up for martial arts training and she even chose to go to archery training and learning how to shoot. Grayson was impressed and loved that they had something to bond over, so they went together to the shooting range for both guns and archery. Jeremy joined them from time to time too.
Fourteen years old, Lena, went to Grayson and asked if she could be certified for first aid and CPR. Grayson asked around his work for any child/teen classes for first aid at the town's center and found that the church after Sundays' mass holds such classes. So, Lena found herself going there after class.
As far as faith, in her past life she was Eastern Orthodox Christian while now she was being raised in a Catholic house hold. She knew that God didn't really care for these kinds of separations so whenever she was in church or felt like praying she would pray the way it came natural to her. Some days she felt nostalgic so she would sneak on Thursday afternoons to go to the Orthodox church a few miles out of Mystic Falls, there was a bus leaving from down the street from her home.
She was noticed of course, the Gilbert girl, joining their masses and knowing how to speak Koine Greek and even Modern Greek. When she was asked by Mister Papadofilou, she said she took up classes for fun one summer at camp after meeting an exchange student from Greece. As for the faith, she was doing her research to see what faith suited her better.
In all honesty, the Orthodox church felt warmer and more welcoming than the Catholic one, people were kinder and less incline to judge new comers. Friendships were made through that and somehow she found herself during the summer when she wasn't hanging out with her friends, making the rounds to her fellow Greeks and Slavic people of her town who she met through the church. Sometimes, she would remind them to take their pills if they were elderly and run errands for them while with the younger people from the church she would offer to babysit or just hang out for coffee.
Boyfriends; she and Matt tried but both of them found out that they were better as friends than lovers, so their breakup wasn't such a huge deal like it was on the show and it came several months prior to her parents' deaths. She went to the bonfire that night because Matt wanted her as a friend to be there not as his girlfriend.
Too soon for her liking, because she loved how her life was, the fateful night came. Grayson and Miranda were dead, they were orphans now.
Jenna came and Lena counted backwards her meet up with Stefan. But at the same time she took advantage for the chaos in her home life to ask Slater, who had became like a close online friend, to let him know of Enzo's predicament and asked him if he had people that could free him.
Slater told her of the ARMORY and told her that he would let them know. Two days later there's a knock on her door and confused she opens the door to see Slater smiling at her.
"Hello, Lena, this is for you." Slater said smiling knowingly as she was handed a manila folder.
Inside the manila folder was an application for her to become an operative of the ARMORY. Confused she eyed Slater who now smirked excited.
"They have been monitoring our chats, Lena, they have seen how you know too much than it's normal. And since you're a doubleganger and a Petrova at that, there are things they would benefit from you and you from them. It's your choice, but I would urge to join them, you can learn so much more from then than from me. Even my own database is limited in comparison to theirs." Slater spoke kindly and excited and Elena eyed her surroundings hoping she wasn't being watched by any of the Salvatores now.
"Okay, I will think about it. Thank you!" Elena said seriously as she hugged Slater and he hugged her back giving her a small peck on the cheek.
"If you or your brother and aunt need anything, let me know." Slater reminded her before climbing down the porch's stairs.
"I know! Thanks!" Elena waved at him as he waved back as he climbed on his motorcycle.
And like that Elena became one of their youngest recruits in the agency. Her training started and it was covered as a youth grieving counseling for Jenna and the school, Jenna tried to get Jeremy to join but the representatives pulled an age limit starting from seventeen and up.
With all of these things happening in the background, Elena had to quit Cheerleading and debate, but she was okay with it. Stefan was slowly trying to enter her life and she pretended to be enthralled in him just so something that was meant to happen was happening.
Also it felt nice to be pampered and be in the lovey dovey state of a relationship. In her past life she never got to experience being noticed by guys so she took full advantage of it.
Training with the ARMORY was taking most of her evenings and Stefan noticed it too. One day at lunch, by now he had met Caroline, Bonnie, Matt and Tyler, asked her where she was disappearing off to in the evenings and wasn't hanging out with the rest of the young population of Mystic Falls at the Grill.
The entire table fell quiet and Stefan noticed and looked nervous.
"I go to grief counseling." Lena answered unbothered by the awkwardness but deep down enjoyed the look of cringe in his face.
"Sorry..."
"No problem, you wondered so you asked and you got an answered." Elena said shrugging and then stole some fries from his plate.
At the ARMORY she was doing very well and one day during a break in between classes she saw Slater waiting for her in the entrance of the building with his bike and a picnic basket.
"I have news, Lena!" Slater said as he raised the basket and Lena told him to follow her at the academy's training court where most people trained in various combat styles or were having picnics enjoying the sun.
Once everything was set up she looked excited at Slater who was pouring some Coca-Cola in Elena's thermos and was about to hand it to her.
"I was offered a job here at the ARMORY as a researcher." Slater said anxiously and Elena squealed excited as she engulfed him in a hug.
"Slater, that's amazing news!" Elena exclaimed proudly and Slater smiled nervously.
"They want full access of my database though." He said quietly and whatever excitement and happiness both felt fizzled out and they frowned.
Slater valued his privacy.
"Don't give them full access, make them think they have that." Elena wrote down on a piece of paper and handed it to him. She didn't dare to voiced her thought in case they were people or cameras watching over them.
Slater looked thoughtful and sighed.
"I'll think about it." He said quietly and Elena smiled understandable.
"So, what are they teaching you here, kid?" Slater asked changing the subject and Elena started her ramblings about everything.
In the past few weeks, she was taught so so much! She was introduced to a historian by the name Amelia Parrish, who taught her everything there was about the Petrova family and were still going through material. Doctor Salovich, was incredible at teaching her and other recruits all about first aid for supernatural beings and humans alike. Coach Sullivan was teaching them tactical, combat and espionage training which was her favorite. While Mrs. Farrow in correspondence with Amelia Parrish were trying to trigger the witchy genes of her Petrova bloodline, she didn't particularly liked that but she understood why it was happening.
"I also, asked Coach Sullivan if I could meet up with Enzo, see how he's doing and I'm waiting to hear from him if I can." Elena finished her ramblings and Slater looked impressed.
"Are you happy?" Slater asked her seriously and she nodded.
"I am." Elena confirmed.
Two weeks after that Coach Sullivan texted her that her meeting Enzo was arranged for Saturday night and to be ready to be picked up by the back alley of the Grill.
She done as she was told, making sure she wasn't being followed, and she climbed in a BMW. She was taken at a club half an hour outside of the town's limits and was told to get out and get inside and use the code word "petra". Confused she squint her eyes at the driver and he stare back at her, his accent was clearly Greek.
"Get down, lady!" He spoke rudely and Elena rushed to get out. She walked inside the club and her ears were met with loud music. The bouncer stopped her and asked for the code word and she supplied it. Inside she watched as it was a normal looking bar but she noticed witches, vampires and werewolves all together having fun. Then her eyes fell to the end of the table where a clean shaven Enzo was waiting for her, Bourbon glass in hand.
"Hello." She said awkwardly as he eyed her suspiciously as she sat opposite to him.
"Miss Gilbert." He acknowledged gruffly and Elena nodded.
"Your family has caused me so much pain yet I was told I have to thank you for my freedom." He stated suspiciously and Elena gulped nervously and remained quiet.
"Why did you want to meet?" He asked suspiciously and Elena took a deep breath.
"I wanted to see with my own eyes that you have adjusted as well as you can. What happened to you wasn't fair and I hate that my family caused you this much pain. My parents are dead now, and I hoped whatever grudge you have against my family ends with their death, and you and I can be on better terms. Not saying to be best friends but at least don't try to kill me or my brother or our aunt." Elena spoke bravely and respectfully, her eyes soft and genuine as she kept her heartbeat even to get the message across that she was being genuine.
"I'll have to think about it. It's admirable that you reached out for this, thank you." Enzo spoke after a small silence and Elena and him had a mini staredown.
"So, are you doing well?" She asked again and Enzo chuckled.
"I'm still trying to understand the 21st century, love!" Enzo said chuckling bitterly as he took a sip of his drink. Elena didn't have time to rethink her words before they slipped;
"And you haven't seen what is in store for us as whole...." Elena said bitterly and scratched her arm where in a different life she had the mark of being vaccinated for Covid-19.
Enzo studied her suspiciously as Elena's eyes seemed to gloss over as the teenage girl in front of him was getting lost to haunting memories.
"What do you mean?" Enzo asked tensely and Elena stared at him for a second a bit confused but soon realization dawn on her.
"Oh! Nothing!" Elena said a little too hurried and Enzo felt the worry pool deep in his stomach.
"Not nothing, not when whatever is coming has you look with this haunted look. Tell me are we in danger?" Enzo pressed and Elena for the second time in her second life felt compelled without being compelled to tell the truth. The first person she ever told about her other life was Slater when she asked him to search the names of her old family and found nothing and he asked why he was chasing dead ends.
"I had a past life before this one in what I have realized was a different universe..." Elena started with a deep breath and kept her voice low just so Enzo can hear and nobody else.
An hour later and several glasses of Bourbon for Enzo and Vermouth with Coca-Cola for Elena, she eyed Enzo as he remained silent digesting what she told him.
"That's how you knew I was in Augustine's captivity?" Enzo asked in disbelief and Elena nodded.
"I was waiting for a time when there will be chaos in the society and my parents' death looked good timing as any...." Elena explained guilty and Enzo nodded as he finished his glass.
"Thank you, but I'll have to really think about your offer of friendship and peace between me and your surviving family." Enzo said as he slid out of the booth and stood up signaling the end of their get-together.
She copied him and let some money on the table too to pay for her drinks plus tip.
A car was waiting for her outside the bar and Enzo told her good night before she climbed on it and drove off.
The next day, as she was getting ready for school she heard Jenna and Jeremy discuss about the recent killings in the area and how Jenna's ex boyfriend, Logan Fell, was covering the news segment.
"Aunt Jenna, please don't give him a second chance, he doesn't deserve you!" Elena weighed in as she poured coffee in her thermos and Jenna smiled softly.
"Wasn't planning on it, Elena!" Jenna assured her and Elena pecked her cheek before rushing behind Jeremy to get into the car to school, Matt was picking them both up.
Arriving at the school she saw Stefan waiting for her by the lockers and smiled but the buzzing of her phone made her freeze for a moment and check it;
"I got the job. – Slater"
An even bigger smile than the one she offered Stefan broke out and she quickly answered Slater's text.
"I'm so proud of you! See you around co-worker! – Lena"
She received a smiley face in response seconds later and she resumed her walk towards the young Salvatore.
"What got you smiling like that?" Stefan immediately asked her and she inwardly gritted her teeth, here we come with the territorial behavior!
"A friend of mine accepted a job offer and texted me to tell me about, today it's their first day." Elena semi lied semi told the truth. Stefan seemed satisfied by her answer so he let it go.
The same afternoon she finished earlier from training with the ARMORY and she was hungry and thought to check on Stefan, if he wanted to grab a bite, so she walked by the Boarding House and knocked on the door.
That afternoon Elena met the eldest Salvatore, Damon, the entire introduction happened the same way as in the show only this time she didn't jump scared when she turned around and found Damon standing behind her. She did scream though when she saw the bird, birds still freaked her out.
"You must be Elena..."
And just like that Damon was in the running which meant that Elena had to be very mindful of Caroline. That very same night as she was video chatting with Slater while eating dinner, Slater pointed out how everything was happening with two weeks delay according to her original calculation and she shrugged saying it worked in her favor. She was more trained now and she had tapped a bit into her magical side.
The next day, Caroline reminded her of the school's bonfire party that was happening tonight. So, that afternoon she called in sick at the ARMORY and did a warm up session before getting ready for the bonfire and hiding weapons on her. With everything going on Lena had forgotten Jeremy's drug addiction and she remembered it as she was brushing her teeth, reflecting back to the couple of weeks that have gone by and the months since their parents' deaths, Jeremy didn't seem high or under the influence. She promised to herself though, that once Caroline's safety was ensured after tonight, she would keep an eye for Jeremy's addiction.
Caroline was the priority now!
She wore her raspberry red tank top and over it her nude pink sweater paired with black leggings and denim skirt and brown belt. She tied the entire outfit with her leather jacket and her leather black Tory Burch Amanda Riding boots. Inside them she hid a dagger and a gun with wooden bullets. She also had dosed herself with vervain for days and even years in her food.
She wore her strongest rings she had in case she needed to punch anyone, human or vampire. With that she heard Caroline's honking from outside and rushed to meet her, they picked up Bonnie next.
The party was on full swing when they arrived and quickly got themselves a drink. She saw Jeremy and waved at him as he and Vicki seemed to talk, she rushed to say hi to them and saw that Jeremy wasn't drunk or high. Vicki on the other hand...yikes...
"Jer, take care of Vicki, okay?" Elena whispered in her brother's ear as she hugged him feigning that she was being cold and needed to be warmed up.
"I got it!" Jeremy whispered back before the two stopped embracing. She then dragged her friends to the bonfire where she saw Stefan essentially chatting with Tyler and Matt.
After that Stefan asked her to go walk for a bit and as they went she saw something moving between the trees, it must have been Damon. She turned around to locate her brother and his non-girlfriend and saw them by the fire talking with some of Vicki's friends and she calmed down but she couldn't find Caroline.
"I'm sorry, Stefan, I need to look for my friend!" Elena told him in a hurried tone and run in the woods.
"Caroline!" She called out but heard no sound.
"Fuck fuck!" She cursed annoyed as she kept walking and her hands curled in firsts and itching to grab her gun and knife from her boots.
She heard a whoosing sound and a whimper, without a second thought she picked up her gun and aimed it towards the sound and fired twice. Before her stood Caroline bitten and terrified and Damon looking at her seething and full on vampire face visible.
"You're that sort of masochist, aren't you?" Elena taunted him as she fired one more round. Before she could fire anymore Damon sped her way but the feeling of being crashed against a tree and being choked never came because she felt a gash of wind and turned to see Enzo and Slater on top of Damon's dead body. Enzo had snapped his neck and Slater had broken his spine.
"Get to your friend!" Slater ordered her as a way to knock her out of her stunned state and it worked because she turned to see Caroline curled against the tree.
"Care! Did he?" Elena asked softly as she rushed to her friend who shook her head no but was crying. Elena held her in her embrace and let her freak out.
"What is he?" Caroline mumbled in Elena's neck as they were embracing.
"A vampire." Elena answered without missing a beat.
"Like the scary stories?" Caroline wondered shocked and Elena nodded.
"Are they..."
"Yes, but they're good. Slater is my friend and Enzo...the verdict is still out if he wants to be friends or not but he is a good person." Elena said softly and Caroline nodded and then turned to see the men who had been giving them space by dragging Damon's body towards some other place.
She waved at them and they waved back to her with small awkward smiles.
"How do you know?" Caroline asked confused and Elena sighed.
"It's a long story for some other time...now do you want me to call your mum?" Elena tried to stir the conversation towards getting Caroline to safety before Damon woke up or Stefan found them.
"My neck..." Caroline said panicking and Enzo slowly walked to her;
"A vampire's blood can heal an injury, if you want I can heal you. But you need to be careful for an entire day not to die because if you do die than you become like us." Enzo explained softly and caringly as Caroline's scared eyes studied him.
"Uh...my mum can't know..." Caroline said in a panicking way and Enzo nodded as he bit his wrist and guided Caroline towards drinking it.
Caroline watched in awe as her bite healed and eyed Elena and Enzo taken aback as if now she truly believed what they told her.
"I can answer all your questions but not here." Elena promised her and she nodded.
"Thank you..."
"Enzo"
"Thank you Enzo and..."
"Slater"
"Thank you Enzo and Slater...nice to meet you...I guess..." Caroline said as nicely as she could without showing how overwhelmed she was.
Elena holding her in her arms they walked back to the bonfire as Elena turned to look at Enzo and Slater who nodded her way.
They were met by Bonnie who hurriedly told them that Stefan was looking for them and when she touched him she got a very back feeling and was now avoiding him like the plague.
"We should ditch this and go back home." Elena suggested and the girls nodded. The trio walked to Caroline's car and Elena was the one most sober so she started driving.
Caroline texted Jeremy from Elena's phone letting him know where she was and if Stefan asked to say he didn't know.
Arriving at her home, Elena grabbed all the snacks she could carry and they all rushed to her room. They spent an hour just chatting before the two girls fell asleep. Elena, grabbed her phone and called Slater while she was in the bathroom.
"Can we meet?"
"Sure, kid, my place?"
"Yes, call Enzo too please."
"He's with me, kid, having a beer."
"Okay, I'm on my way."
Elena drove twenty minutes to Slater's apartment condo and knocked on his door.
"Hey."
"Hey, kid, how is your friend?" Slater asked genuinely concerned and Elena sighed.
"Exhausted, she might think she dreamed it all tomorrow." Elena answered a bit amused by the notion before she sighed deeply and added;
"Thank you both for being there...but why were you there?"
"I was watching over you, knowing what today was meant to happen. And Enzo called asking where you are and telling me that he needed to talk to you, so I told him where I was." Slater explained as he poured a water glass for her and handed her an unopened cake slice from the bakery down the street.
Hearing that she eyed Enzo intrigued and Enzo sighed as he stood up.
"I've made my decision, I forgive you and want to be friends."
"No, I didn't ask for you forgiveness and you shouldn't forgive them for doing what they did you, you're the victim they should apologize, I just want you to understand that nor I or my brother deserve your justified anger because we were the ones conducting your tortures. Having said that, I would have liked if we could be friends." Elena clarified for him and Enzo was stunned in a good way. Slater was just on the side grinning like a proud mama.
"Then I want you and your brother to be in good terms with me." Enzo stated hopeful and Elena smiled excited.
"I will be grateful for your friendship, Enzo." Elena said smiling and Enzo smiled.
"If that is why you came here for, then is suggested heading back so you can sleep, kid." Slater advised in a fatherly tone and Elena smirked.
"One more thing, is Damon okay?"
"Yes, Slater stopped me for killing him, saying he's needed for the future....I wish he wasn't so I can kill him..." Enzo said and Elena nodded understanding.
"I wish the same thing." Elena said seriously and held Enzo's gaze.
Enzo nodded and Elena smiled a bit sadly but knew that she had to go back home. She drove back and she wasn't noticed.
The next morning the trio woke up and it was the weekend so they slowly got down for breakfast and Caroline and Bonnie went back to their homes.
Elena had "grief counseling" in the afternoon and she started cleaning her room and getting herself ready for the grueling six hours of training. As she got into the academy she saw Enzo waiting for her outside and she smiled.
"Mister Lorenzo Saint John!" She greeted him as she mocked a bow and Enzo laughed and replied with another mocking bow.
"Miss Elena Gilbert!" Enzo greeted back and both of them chuckled as they walked back inside.
"Why do I owe this pleasure?" Elena asked as she pointed at Enzo and her.
"Just making sure you're not eaten by Damon last night. Other than that, to let you know I'm in your corner, whatever you need I'm a call away. But also to warn you, now you're under the Salvatores' eyes and I heard enough stories by now, to warn you they are stalker-like so they might see you with me or Slater and get the wrong ideas and especially don't let them see you come here if you don't want them to know the full truth." Enzo explained wisely and with care as he and Elena walked inside the building and into the locker room. Elena listened to his advice and warning.
"But I'm careful." Elena said confused and worried.
"Yes, you are. You're too in tune with your surroundings for a human. But as Slater would say, focus more on your training and your magic! And less about meeting both of us because they will be watching. You can text us...you have my number and Slater's so text every day and every night and in the middle of the day, whenever really. Just be careful!" Enzo rambled on like an anxious dad and Elena smiled amused and touched.
"Okay, I will...I promise." Elena said still amused and touched as Enzo gave her a brief hug.
After their talk, Elena indeed focused more on her training and magic lessons. She truly showed advancements in both. At the same time she watched Caroline and Jeremy. Caroline was still trying to wrap her head around the supernatural and Elena filling in the gaps for her whenever she had questions while she watched Jeremy and Vicki for any signs of them being on drugs mostly Jeremy. So far, Vicki wasn't targeted by and Jeremy seemed to be a bit out there but nothing too serious. Jeremy was smoking weed which for Elena wasn't that big of a fun but didn't think it was a big deal, she did gave him a stern talk about not getting into any heavier drugs. Jeremy said it helped with nightmares and the anxiety of going back to school which Elena understood so well.
As Lena she used to have huge issues with anxiety, it was paralyzing. And of course she didn't want anyone to experience what she had, thinking of Jeremy potentially experiencing similar if not exact the same symptoms the thought of bit of weed didn't seem that harmful.
What made her worry a bit was how Stefan kept hanging out with them but didn't comment on her shooting his brother with bullet made out of wood. Yet, people were still dying all around and Bonnie was more frequently experiencing witchy things signaling that her powers were being activated.
For a moment she really thought that Enzo had lied to her about leaving Damon alone and still had him in his custody. But it's been a week since the event and every night she emailed Slater and Enzo giving them a rundown of her day and asking about their day and she had mentioned about Damon's whereabouts.
She prayed Enzo wasn't lying to her!
