Avoidance, Secrets, Anger And Festering Darkness.

Hey! Sorry for dropping out like that but I visited family out of my hometown and I didn't have WiFi. The data I had were for my phone and didn't dare to try to make my phone a hot-spot so my computer to have WiFi.

However, I did work on creating more chapters for this story. And for those who are reading my Be Somebody story I have good news; I have been writing the 25th chapter and I believe in a month or a few days I might be done and posting so keep an eye out!

Moreover, I want to thank you so much for all the kudos, favourites, followings and comments throughout Ao3, Wattpad and Fanfiction.net! Seeing them in my email inbox was making my day! Keep 'em coming! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this chapter!

To enhance your reading experience, I recommend listening to Boa-Duvet while reading this chapter. I hope you enjoy it.

Enjoy!

She's been avoiding Enzo's phone calls. To the point that even Slater and Finn kept telling her to just answer him!

"I will when I'm ready!!!!" She blew up at Finn one day after he started pressing her to answer Enzo's calls.

"You are an agent now and Enzo is your handler, either you like it or not, you have to answer to him. Keep it professional you don't have to forgive him." Finn added not bothered by her blow up.

She was getting ready for the decade dance, a dance that in the original timeline should have happened two weeks ago.

"Alright, I call him tomorrow." She sighed annoyed and kept fixing her hair, dressed up in a blue shirt, ankle jeans, a headband and red scarf with sneakers. Trying to be on theme.

"You look beautiful tonight." Finn said as he stood behind her and smiled his eyes showing how in love he was and Elena met his gaze through the mirror her eyes the reflecting the same love back. Elena turned around and kissed him and he kissed her back.

"Lena...we can't..." Finn tried to stop her and Elena sighed displeased but she stopped.

Since the car crash hadn't happened so the Noah, a vampire that stalked her, didn't stalk her or at least just waiting for the dance to make his appearance. And she was ready now, trained. But now she had to keep an eye for Ben, their old classmate, turned by Anna who hadn't showed up. So, there was a chance Ben was still human and not a threat.

At the dance she went with Stefan. The party was as expected yet as she watched Jeremy serve the paunch and laugh with Caroline who was dressed in her timeline-appropriate outfit. Returning back from being held hostage for a week she felt like an alien and her friends had believed the excuse of bad weather delay. Thank god for vampiric blood because the militia had done a number on her. She tried to be her old self but she felt herself grow darker.

Miriam and her kept in touch talking on the phone when one of them couldn't sleep or woke from nightmares. They had grown closer than she expected.

She found herself overwhelmed by the lights and people so she excused herself and went to the bathroom , washed her face and then called Miriam.

"Hey, how is the dance?" Miriam's British accent rang through the phone.

"It's nice but I can't be around so many people anymore...I want to go home." Elena said seriously as she slid down and sat on the floor.

"I know the feeling." Miriam chuckled sadly and Elena copied the chuckle.

"Any royal duties that you messed up today?" Elena asked a bit amused and Miriam chuckled.

"No, but last weekend I disappeared until there was a need for photos and speeches." Miriam admitted and Elena sighed.

"Are we ever getting better?" Elena wondered out loud.

"Nope!" Miriam said bitterly and Elena let a few angry tears fall from her eyes.

"I want to come visit, Elena." Miriam said seriously and Elena was pulled back from her spiraling thoughts

"Of course, whenever you can and want. Just tell me to get the guest room ready or you can stay with Slater, his house is bigger than mine." Elena told her and Miriam said she will be looking in her books to find a free week. Told her she would text by the end of tomorrow.

With that Elena rejoined the party and tried to have fun but it felt tasteless and void.

"I don't feel well, I'm going home, Stefan." She yelled over the music and Stefan looked surprised and decided to take her home. Once at home, Elena teleported into Enzo's house, in his doorstep and knocked at it.

"Elena!" Enzo asked shocked and relieved.

"I'm sorry for avoiding you. I don't feel safe at the company...why wait a week? Why not get me on day two or something?" Elena fessed up and was anxious.

"There are protocols, Elena, and this time the whole ordeal was being watched by so many countries! We couldn't risk it! Under other circumstances you would be saved by two days tops worse two weeks. But Elena, in this line of work you will get hurt and you will get captured and we might not be able to save you that's why we train all agents to be able to save themselves. Did you even try to get out?" As Enzo talked Elena entered but when Enzo asked her if she tried to save herself she froze and turned to face him.

Her face was hurt and tears were blurring her vision. She raised her hand palms facing the house's ceiling and her fingers curled upwards, tears run down her face as Enzo started choke on blood oozing from his mouth and eyes. He kneeled and Elena walked up to him.

"Choke on the blood I lost trying to keep the secrets of our world, of your agency, and then tell me if I fought or not." Elena whispered in his ear her tone was hurt and bitter.

She slammed the door and Enzo's neck snapped dropping dead for now. Elena felt this darkness growing inside her and she visualized it as she closed her eyes. One gulp of air and she opened her eyes, tears no more, pain only a dull thud in the back of her mind.

Something in her finally snapped and darkness engulfed the cracks that appeared.

The next day she walked inside the ARMORY HQ with her box of things and replaced them back in her locker and went back to the training mats. Trained for hours taking everyone down candidate after candidate, she threw knife after knife at dummies and shot target after target. Twelve hours later as she showered in the locker room she heard some witches talking about a rescue mission of a young girl who was a witch and was human trafficked in New Orleans.

"Do you need one more?" Elena asked them as she emerged from the shower and the two women eyed her surprised and nodded.

"Let me get dressed then." Elena said smiling coldly.

Chopper landed on top of a warehouse and Elena with M4 she shot guards after guard before she threw her weapon aside and took her favorite stiletto knives and started slashing throats or sternums while deliver punches and kicks. She didn't even flinched yet her bloodthirsty look masked itself in her eyes the moment she saw the group of 100 girls ages 3 to 16 years olds hurtling together the oldest protecting the youngest.

"It's okay, I'm help." Elena said softly as she kneeled before them but the terrified looks made her turn around and see a man in the shadows pointing a gun at her.

She stood up and in lighting movements she dislodged a star knife and threw it at him, cutting his neck and he fell down the stairs.

"Now you're safe." She corrected adding some amusement in her tone and offered her bloody hand to the eldest girl who had wide green eyes and black hair tied in a messy ponytail.

Returning from that mission she slammed on her bed, it was 2 am by now. The next day she had school.

Finn watched her from the shadows and shook his head disappointed and worried but there was nothing he could do in his state.

School was doing great when Bonnie pulled her aside and told her that Caroline had caught her doing magic in her room and she now knew about everything and Bonnie thought it was the right thing she learned about Elena's side of things too. So, Bonnie arranged a sleepover at her Grams' house for that night. Elena nodded but she didn't say that Caroline was already in the know, it was a topic they should discuss in the safety of a vampire free house.

The sleepover went well and to Elena's surprise Bonnie wasn't mad at Elena keeping her side of things a secret. If only they knew the full story...they would hate her for good.

Entering her home on Wednesday noon she found Jeremy with Jenna as he told her about the new friend he and Vicki met at the library and how Vicki loved how she was so quirky.

"Yeah! She's perfect for you!" Vicki exclaimed laughing and Jeremy shook his head no.

"Don't start Vicki!" Jeremy said annoyed the kidding atmosphere was gone.

"No, I will, I told you that you and I aren't going to work besides I'm putting myself together and in a few months I will be off to some college! Anna and you have more in common than you and I, she'll do you good..." Vicki exclaimed defensively in a wise tone which surprised Elena who eyed her with raised eyebrows.

"That's great to hear, Vicki!" Elena applauded the older girl who smiled proudly.

"The new school teacher really did a wonderful thing! He gave me hope!" Vicki gushed relieved and Elena eyed her confused.

"What new teacher?"

"Alaric Saltzman? Coach Turner was murdered two nights ago, he was on a trip to New Orleans and he was found dead in his hotel room, sliced throat!" Vicki exclaimed with fascination pulling up the newspaper from the kitchen island and showed it to Elena.

Elena's mind flashed back to the guy at the warehouse, it was so dark, she knew how her star knives marked her victims and she was looking down at a picture of Coach Turner sporting her star knives' marks. He was at the warehouse! He was involved with human trafficking!

That son of bitch!

Elena excused herself and grabbed the newspaper and rushed back out, she sprinted down to Caroline's house knocking on the door, Liz Forbes answered to Elena's relief.

"I have information for Turner." She said seriously and Liz looked at her confused but intrigued.

"Turner was involved with human trafficking, the hotel room scene is staged. He must have trafficked girls and boys from our school too, you need to launch a full investigation as soon as possible and keep it hush hush because more teachers might be involved." Elena spoke with seriousness in her tone that Liz found alien on such a young girl.

"How do you know this?" Liz asked her unsure of how to react.

"I have a friend who's dad has these star knives that do such damage, the wounds match. I can't tell more because this dad was hired by the government to take him and a warehouse full of others like him down two days ago. But launch the investigation." Elena pressed Liz and her eyes and tone showed the urgency.

"Name of your friend?"

"Angela Van Eck." Elena answered using one of her alias and Liz nodded as she started dialing the number of her co-worker.

The next day Caroline, Elena and Bonnie with Stefan, Matt, Tyler and the rest of Mystic Falls High watched as a bunch of cops marched inside the campus and started investigating lockers and offices.

In all the chaos Bonnie forgot her Geometry notebook in Elena's bag so Elena walked to Bonnie's house to give it back. As they chit chatted about school Bonnie told her something her Grams told her.

At night, Slater called checking to see her if she was alright. She said she was fine but needed to sleep. It's been four days since she meeting with Enzo and he hadn't said a thing to her. She was too pissed off at him but also missed him.

Finn appeared to her and she smiled at him.

"Please be mindful of your information dump." Finn warned her and she saluted before she fell on the bed and sleep took over.
