3 ; graduating

DARK INTENTLY STUDIED and did homework in his room, a frown of concentration on his face. He wanted to get the highest grade out of all the seniors. And plus, there was one main rule—

Pass the test = Graduate.

His door creaked open, but he kept focus on his work. When a hand ruffled his hair, he groaned.

"Wilford, can't you see I'm busy?"

Wilford hummed, scanning his eyes over the other's desk. "Naaah, not really," he teased.

Dark looked up, eyes narrowed and brows furrowed. "Annoy me later, please."

Wilford frowned, kneeling by the desk. Dark didn't have time for this. The big test was tomorrow.

"Darki, leave your work alone for a minute and talk to meeeee?"

Dark looked up from his papers with his usual frown and glared.

"Out," he ordered.

"Sheesh, okay, okay," he said, backing out the door. "No need to get your dick in a knot."

Dark growled as the door slammed, putting his head in his hands. He stared down at the notes he made, roughly sighing. Now, instead of studying, he thought of his friend. The friend whom he liked.

..

"MR. EDWARD. SO great to meet you."

He shook hands with a man in his forties, pushing away his confusion. They were surrounded by many people—all of which had just graduated high school.

There was a small smile on the man's face. "Name's Mr. Dike. But call me Hudson."

Dark nodded. "Pleased to meet you, sir."

Mr. Dike smiled. "I'll get straight to the point. We saw your test scores and they were absolutely stunning—the first time someone's gotten a 100% on that test."

Dark's eyes widened slightly. He thought he had done miserably.

Mr. Dike fixed his tie. "I've come here to give you this." He slipped out an envelope and handed it to the confused teen.

Dark's whole body went numb at the words scrawled on the paper.

"We, from Source University, invite you to enroll in our school."

Dark glanced up at Mr. Dike. "Sir... I'd love to, but..."

The man smiled, lightly touching the seemingly-heavy envelope in the teen's hands.

"I know it's very far from here. Take your time to decide. If you don't want to attend, just send the envelope back."

Dark nodded, merely speechless. He had just been invited to join one of the most respected schools in the states.

The one farthest away from home...

"Have a great day, Mr. Edward," the man bid, walking off and into the crowd.

His friend, Wilford, had bounded up to him now.

"Darki!" he greeted, spotting the envelope in the older one's hands. "What's that?"

Dark slowly handed his friend the envelope, looking away.

"WHAT?! That's so far away!"

His friend sighed, inwardly cringing at the loud outburst. "I know..."

"Are you gonna accept it?"

Dark frowned, shrugging. "I think... I mean... it's one of my dream schools."

Wilford pouted. "Well... I'll always be here..."

"You're going to Pleasant University?"

He nodded. "Yeah. It's close to home, so."

If only Dark had changed his decision. Stayed home.

.

DARK HID HIS emotions very well. Except today.

He and his friend stared out at the view, standing side by side. They leaned against a spindly metal fence that kept them from falling into the dark waters below. It was so quiet that you could hear the fish swim.

"Well..." The once hyper boy now stood beside his childhood friend. There was sorrow in the air. "Guess this is goodbye."

Dark clutched the edge of the metal fence. He turned to his friend and pulled him into a hug. A suffocating hug—just like the ones Wilford would give him when they were younger.

Wilford's eyes went wide and his arms were hovering and tense.

"Woah..."

Dark's head was buried in his friend's shoulder, and a few warm tears slipped out of his eyes.

"Hug back, you dickhead," Dark said, his voice muffled.

Wilford chuckled, pulling his friend in close. His chest began to tighten, and a strong wave of emotion poured through him. He swallowed and huffed out a breathless laugh.

"I'm really gonna miss ya, buddy," he said.

Dark's heart tensed at the nickname but nothing more. He tried pulling his friend closer.

"Hey, hey, Darki... Darkimoo." Wilford lightly pushed his friend away, his hands clutching the older one's shoulders. It surprised him to see Dark cry, but he didn't show it.

Dark sniffled, rubbing at the corners of his eyes as he looked away and sighed. Even when Dark cried, he still looked beautiful.

"You can always visit," Wilford reassured, rubbing the side of his friends arm.

Dark pulled Wil's shirt collar forward and pulled him into another hug. Yet it was calmer. It didn't feel like a hug that belonged to friends.

"I know," he whispered, resting his chin on Wilford's shoulder. In the distance, he saw Ana, waving softly. The care-taker's hunch was right: serious ol' Dark was falling in love with his little friend.

..

"Is this really goodbye?"

Wilford sighed, ruffling Dark's hair. He knew his friend didn't like it, but he wanted this last chance to do it.

Dark sighed, taking his friend's hands. His flight would be leaving soon.

"Wilford, you've been..." He harshly swallowed. "You're a great friend."

Something glimmered in Wilford's eyes at that word but nothing more. He smiled.

"You too," he said.

They shared one last, deathly hug. A tear slipped from Wilford's eye.

"Darkimoo..."

"Warfie..."

..

"Agent Darki, never forget me!" Wilford dramatically yelled as his friend scurried away.

"I won't, Leader Willy!" he called back.

..

"Flight 243-- now boarding."

Dark bit his lip and brought up his courage. He gave Wilford's hands a soft squeeze before he softly pressed a quick kiss to his friend's cheek.

"I'll miss you," he said, quickly heading off.

Wilford unconsciously put a finger to where Dark had kissed his cheek. The spot left a light tingling feeling.

"Dark..." he whispered as he watched him go.
