Third person pov

Tsukauchi had no idea what to do as he approached UA. There was now a huge conflict of interest here. Rei was his soulmate, so of course he'd be siding with her. It didn't matter that she was right and most definitely the victim here. Would everything he collected even be valid anymore now that he'd found her? Even she had seemed unsure, though overjoyed to have finally met him. He was as well, of course. It was the best day of his life! He just... wasn't too sure what to do anymore.

He wasn't positive whether or not there was a way to prove he hadn't known Rei was his soulmate before getting himself involved. There were no other lie-detecting quirks on the force, so he'd have to rely on his allies in the field and his own reputation for being an honest cop. There were a lot of Endeavor fans out there. He was the Number One hero now, and people were desperate to see him fill All Might's shoes. Even if that mind blindsiding themselves to what was going on behind closed doors. And yeah, the court orders had already gone through for the divorce, so that was over, but the custody of Shoto Todoroki was another matter all together. Though, the teen was old enough... there was a chance they'd let him pick where he wanted to be.

Snipe nodded to him as he flashed his pass, and he nodded back. Endeavor had apparently come onto the campus a few days prior, and Hawks had been forced to intervene. The incident wasn't being portrayed for the public to see, kept under tight wraps so the Todoroki family could keep their privacy. After all, nobody knew UA had Touya in reform yet, nor did they know Hawks was Fuyumi's destined soulmate.

He and Rei had spent the last few days just talking and getting to know each other. Tsukauchi had decided it best to break the news to Takashi and Touya in person. Rei was going to meet with Fuyumi and Natsuo at a secluded cafe elsewhere at the moment. That meant the detective was on his own. He was sure Izuku Midoriya would be there as well-- though he wasn't sure. He hadn't asked, but he was quite sure the green-haired boy was Shoto's soulmate.

Parking his car didn't take as long as he wished it did. Tsukauchi wasn't usually a procrastinator, but he was feeling jittery and like he really didn't want to do this. Could you blame him? This case could crumble around him, and Takashi and Touya could lose the progress they'd made. Tsukauchi was only glad Endeavor wasn't aware of Touya's existence. He and his legal team would have gone for the throat on the matter given just a little more information. Takashi had dealt with the flame hero well.

Tsukauchi made his way up to 1-A's dorm. It was bathed in the morning glow the sun brought, and he could see a few students moving about their rooms when he glanced up at the windows. They had class today from what he knew, so he'd have to make it quick. Taking off his hat, he pulled open one of the double doors at the entrance. He'd asked if he should knock when he texted Takashi, telling him they needed to talk about the case, but the brunette had insisted he just come in.

He could see why. Just stepping in, it was bustling enough that he was pretty sure nobody would have heard him had he decided to try being polite. His eyes roamed the dorm as he hesitantly shuffled forward. Students were rushing around, some even still in pajamas. He could hear Takashi's voice in the kitchen, and headed in that general direction. He tried to stop himself from sweating, but it wasn't really something the detective could control. Tsukauchi warded off his panic with a deep breath, tugging at his tie.

Touya was making eggs and pancakes at the oven, alternating between pans while Kirishima whisked more for scrambled, and Kaminari and Sero both made more pancake mix. It was nice to see Touya finally managing to fit in amongst 1-A the same way Takashi had been since day one. Unwittingly, a smile formed on his face as Takashi frantically dished food and ordered Shoto and Izuku to take it to people. Kids were eating and shouting out their requests, scrambling to get more plates and cups.

It looked like each kid had different dishes. Tsu's had crickets sprinkled atop the eggs like pepper and strawberry syrup instead of the standard maple. Bakugo had more pepper on his eggs, and peanut butter on his pancakes along with what looked like a bit of cinnamon sprinkled on. Sato's was honey with blueberries and powdered sugar, while Ochako's had bananas cooked into some of the cakes, and chocolate chips into some others. Tsukauchi felt his mouth water.

"Tsukauchi! Pancake request?" Takashi chirped, turning to him as he entered. Tsukauchi blinked when the smell of bacon hit him, and realized not only was Takashi putting together specialized dishes, he was also making sausage and bacon on the side as well. His stomach made another grumble as he threw sprinkles on Aoyama's syrup-drowned pancakes and edible glitter on the eggs, along with a pinch of salt. His felt his mouth water slightly without him meaning it to.

"If it's not too much trouble?" He winced as soon as he said it. He was about to ruin their days, and here he was asking for pancakes. How shady of him. Still, Naomasa couldn't deny that he was starving. Food was calming. Maybe he could break it to them over breakfast? He eyed the french toast Touya starting on, eyes going to the toaster as slightly-roasted bagels popped out. Takashi approached, armed with cream cheese and cream cheese icing. Izuku slapped some Nutella on the side of Aoyama's plate before sending it on its way. Todoroki dropped a few strawberries elegantly on the sides before the french teen could whisk it away to devour it.

"At this point, we're used to it. Throw it at us." Takashi chirped, rushing two of the iced bagels over to Mina and Ochako, who were halfway through their plates. Todoroki appeared with smoothies for the two girls, who thanked them profusely with watering mouths. Tsukauchi pressed his lips together. Yeah, he couldn't turn this down. He watched Takashi slide back, take some of the sausage of, drop it on a small plate, and then throw it at Kirishima since he was the only one who could safely approach Bakugo while the champagne blonde was eating.

Tsukauchi very hesitantly gave his order. Touya coaxed more details from him until his impending plate was just as complicated as some of the others he'd seen. Todoroki's was full of fresh fruit, his pancakes extremely fluffy and covered in maple syrup. Izuku's had whipped cream and chocolate syrup drizzled over his, along with fresh strawberries that had been perfectly sliced. It looked like something out of a magazine. Tsukauchi would have to take pictures of his plate to send to Rei and Toshinori both, along with some of his squad mates just to flex.

His pancakes had chocolate chips cooked into it, doused in maple syrup with a dollop of compote they'd made right before him with fresh strawberries. The pancakes weren't too fluffy, but weren't flat either. The eggs were scrambled in a way that made them bright and puffy, sprinkled with truffle salt. A piece of french toast had been cut diagonally, a few blueberries placed atop it before it was dusted with powdered sugar. An angel food cake muffin with whipped cream and strawberries on top was off to the side, next to it being bacon and a sausage link. A banana smoothie was slid across the bar top by Shoto, who nodded as it came to an easy stop before the detective.

"You guys should open a restaurant." Tsukauchi said distantly.

"Oh, trust me. That's the first thing we're doing when we get him out of here." Takashi hip-bumped Touya, whose nose scrunched up. "Well, that and getting a new place. Gotta house Shoto, after all!"

Said boy flushed, smiling a little. Tsukauchi thought back to the aloof and distant boy he'd met at the USJ. He'd changed a lot, and in a good way. By the way he and Izuku kept brushing past each other every chance they got, he had a feeling the freckled boy was one of the main people to thank for that aside from both Takashi and Touya.

Kids filtered in, getting their food. Even Aizawa made an appearance, and was handed an absolutely loaded plate and cup of orange juice. All he did was nod, yawn, and vanish to go eat in his room away from all the chatter of his students. When Takashi had said they were used to it, he hadn't been kidding. They'd served the rest of the kids and themselves before Tsukauchi was even halfway done, Shoto and Izuku plopping down across the island along with Takashi and Touya. Tsukauchi felt a bit exposed, sitting across from them, but they did have the kitchen to themselves.

"So." Touya popped some eggs in his mouth, chewed, then swallowed. "You said something came up in the case against my dear old dad?"

"You sounded pretty tense over the phone." Takashi added. They hadn't shown it before, but now Tsukauchi could see their worry. It made him want to wince, especially considering their worries were well founded. Their entire case could fall apart at the seams, and they wouldn't be able to do anything about it. It frustrated Tsukauchi to no end, but it was too late. He could not un-meet his soulmate, nor did he want to, just as he couldn't pretend he and Rei weren't destined to be together. Were they to be caught, even after the case closed, all would immediately go to Endeavor. It would totally fuck them over.

"I... something's come up. A conflict of interest I fear could ruin the entire case." Tsukauchi blurted the words out, shoving a bite of his pancakes in his mouth. Shoto's gaze snapped away from Izuku, both teens looking startled. Touya froze up, but Takashi didn't even flinch. The brunette just tilted his head slightly in thought. Tsukauchi took notice of the bright, school-bus yellow flower in his hair. He glanced at the redhead, who's Adam's apple bobbed. Tsukauchi took a deep breath.

"Alright, what's the conflict of interest?" Takashi asked carefully, knitting his hands together and propping his chin up on them. Tsukauchi couldn't stop a sheepish smile from forming on his face as his cheeks warmed slightly.

"W-Well, I met Rei." Tsukauchi admitted. Touya and Takashi both visible straightened at the use of her first name, and Shoto's brows rose. Izuku squeezed the half-and-half boy's hand. "It turns out... well, we happen to be..."

You could see the moment the realization dawned on their faces. The was Touya's tension fell slack, and how Izuku's shoulders hunched up and his eyes went so round that his irises were both surrounded by white. You could basically see the gears in Takashi's brain moving, the pieces all falling into place as Tsukauchi awkwardly flushed further. Why did he feel like he was meeting his girlfriend's parents? No, this was worse. This was her kids.

"No way." Touya breathed, eyes going wide. Takashi brought his hands up to clap them over his mouth, though the squeal still bled through. Shoto's entire face lit up, and he turned to the stunned Izuku with a grin. Tsukauchi blinked curiously at the reactions as Touya whooped and wrapped Takashi in a hug. He didn't quite understand why they were so happy. This wasn't- oh, wait.

Tsukauchi felt dumb. It made sense. They all had soulmates themselves, meaning they understood the connection and just how overjoying it was. Tsukauchi had never felt so invigorated in his entire life. So... so alive. It was like his life had been dimmed since birth, but had suddenly been dialed up to full brightness. Rei was the center of his everything now. She was always on his mind, and he was fine with that. It was amazing to have someone. He'd dated before, and he'd had girlfriends and boyfriends who'd broken his heart in the past. None of that was anything like what he had with Rei. Their connection was permanent-- something that would last forever. He could simply tell.

"Tsukauchi, that's amazing!" Takashi gasped out excitedly, his breakfast forgotten as he hugged Touya's arm. "You and Rei are soulmates?! I know this could cause complications for the case, but it's in no way a bad thing!"

"Soulmates are more important than some case against some asshole. Even if we can't get him in jail, we got mom out, and it's all worth it if she found you. So long as we can get Shoto too, I think all's well." Touya grinned. "Seriously, congratulations man. You and mom both deserve it."

"I'm glad my mother has found someone, and that's it's as good a man as you are." Shoto bobbed his head, a small smile on his face. Izuku nodded vigorously as well, cheeks full of food. "Though having you as my stepdad will be odd."

Takashi and Touya both paused, as did Tsukauchi. They turned to stare at the teen, who didn't seem to know what he'd just done as he went back to his breakfast. Izuku gave a shrug, offering a half smile to them. Takashi sucked in a sharp breath of air, and then-

"Oh my god, you're my new father in law!"
