Chapter 17
Third person pov
So Todoroki Touya wasn't a heinous murderer. This fact had been officially established, and was collectively believed by everyone in 1-A. Even Bakugo begrudgingly admitted that maybe they'd misjudged the redhead just a little. Either Touya was an idiot who'd gotten himself dropped through a warp gate, or he was just a super good actor. People severely doubted the latter. The guy's bad-boy act was suffering greatly. They all saw who he really was with relative ease; all they had to do was look closely for a change.
Rei Todoroki was a soft-spoken woman, a bit like her son Shoto in a way, but more emotional and willing to socialize. Touya seemed more open as well with her around. His smiled and laughed. Or maybe he'd always been like that, and they'd just avoided him too much to notice. Either way, it was becoming clearer and clearer by the second that he and Takashi were a lot of fun to be around, especially when you threw Izuku and Shoto into the mix.
The rest of the day passed relatively quickly, as did the next one. It Thursday that it happened. It wasn't anything big or threatening. Despite coming to the expert conclusion that Touya wasn't dangerous, nobody had actually made an effort to communicate with him. Sero and Kirishima didn't hesitate to help the redhead and Takashi out in the kitchen with meals, but they weren't straight up hanging out with the scarred man like Shoto and Izuku happened to be. Thursday... Thursday was the start of something.
"Oh, hey." Touya said mildly, and Mina tensed, whirling around. Her eyes immediately dropped to the hot pink, cat-themed eraser in the man's hand. She blinked at it rapidly, shoulders stiff with surprise as her mind blanked on what to say. "You dropped this. Nice eraser, by the way."
She held out her hand almost on reflex, taking note of how he was very careful not to touch her as he dropped it in her upturned palm. He offered a small smile, and she realized just how tired he looked. He had this hesitant look in his eyes, ready to jump back at any given moment. He was searching her for discomfort. The realization that holy shit, the guy legitimately cared, hit her upside the head as her fingers curled around the eraser. Touya muttered a small apology and dipped his head before spinning on his heel and moving to march back into through the kitchen's entry way to rejoin Takashi. Mina sputtered.
"W-Wait!" She almost grabbed his sleeve, but stopped herself as he turned curiously. He looked a bit startled as she fidgeted. "Thanks for- uh... did you want to join our study group? We're... looking at Chemistry and English. I can show you more uh... u-uh, cat erasers, if you want. You can even have one i-if you like any..."
Touya seemed taken aback, glancing over his shoulder as though maybe she were talking to someone else. It almost made Mina snort, but she was a bit too busy twitching and trying not to panic to do so. Touya seemed surprised. It was surprisingly a little sad to see. It made her feel pretty bad, knowing they'd been pushing him away and ostracizing him for something he didn't mean to get wrapped up in.
"Takashiiii!" Touya drawled out, not taking his eyes off Mina. As though she'd lunge and rip his throat out. It was sort of amusing. "Can I go study with the pink one?"
"I'm supposed to babysit you!" Takashi's head popped into view, his face covered in smudges of flour. In the background, Shoto and Izuku are arguing with Sero and Kirishima about how many eggs actually need to go into the bowl. The recipe they printed out said twenty-three, which was obviously a typo. They just couldn't figure out if the two was the extra number or the three. Even Takashi wasn't sure, and he cooked all the time.
"I promise I won't get into trouble." Touya clasped his hands in front of him. Mina hid her snicker with a cough. "She has cat erasers. And she said I could have one."
Takashi visible perked up at that, looking at Mina with an interested light in his green eyes. Mina almost started laughing. "Cat erasers?" He questioned, cocking his head. Mina swore she heard Touya coo, but when she looked back at him, his expression was the same as it had been moments ago. The acidic girl shrugged and held up the hot pink one she'd accidentally dropped. Takashi gasped quietly to himself.
"Yeah, my mom got me a pack of thirty." Mina gave a half-smile.
"...And he can have a cat eraser?" Takashi checked.
"More than one if he wants. I don't need that many." Mina shook out her hands, her smile sheepish and uneasy, but genuine. This time, it was Touya who let out a little gasp, looking hopeful. So he liked cats. Just knowing that made Mina relax just a little. She just hoped the other girls would be okay with it.
"...I'll meet you guys up there later." Takashi said, eyes gleaming. "Get cute ones, Touya."
"All of them are probably cute." Touya retaliated. Takashi stuck out his tongue before ducking back into the kitchen. Touya looked like an excited puppy, peering down at Mina. She wondered how any of them ever found him threatening at all. The scars were off-putting, sure. But it was easily trumped by literally everything else. If Touya had a tail, it would be wagging like crazy right now, she could just tell. She plastered on a bright grin and calmed herself. It would all work out. He wouldn't try anything in the dorms, and seemed relatively harmless anyway!
"Technically boys aren't supposed to come into the girls dorm, but you're sort of not a student, you know? Plus you're married and everything, so I think it's fine. I don't know how the other's will react, but don't worry. Everyone's pretty chill with you now. They just don't know how to approach you. Age gap and all. We don't really think you're all that threatening anymore, no offense." Mina mindlessly babbled as Touya strode after her. A lot of time her ranting was ignored because of how often she did it, but he seemed genuinely interested. Either he was always like that, or Takashi was rubbing off on him.
"I can go back, if you want. I wouldn't want to get anyone in trouble." He said, his voice cool and level. She raised her brows at him. He was such an odd guy. Not that she could really talk, that is.
"No, it'll be fine! If I'm fine with it, the others probably will be too. They're way calmer than I am." She assured him with a grin, and he gave a small smile back and a hesitant nod. He was nervous. He felt anxious being away from Takashi, and he was worried his presence would be rejected. Of course he understood that it was a high possibility he'd be rejected from the group. Any guy might be, seeing as it was all girls. Or at least he was pretty sure it was, from what Mina had said.
Mina bounced to her dorm, where the studying was taking place. Hers has the most room, the furniture minimal and pushed to the sides of the room. She also has more seating, having brought in a three-seater sofa that took up most of her back wall. It made her dorm the more popular hang out space amongst 1-A's girls. She felt her excitement swell slightly. Maybe this would go really good and they could all be friends! That would be a nice change. Then, maybe Touya wouldn't have to rely on Takashi so much. The brunette seemed to like Touya enough, but it was stressful being saddled with a total stranger! It had to be!
"Hey, guys!" Mina stepped into the room with a bright grin. "I brought Touya to study with us. I hope that's okay."
The girls immediately fell silent as Touya hesitantly leaned into view, offering a small nod and an attempt at a smile that translated over as more of a sympathetic grimace if nothing else. Mina watched her friends with a silent pleading flashing in her eyes as they exchanged uneasy and confused glances. Clearly it wasn't what they were expecting when Mina hopped off to retrieve her eraser. The hot pink one is her favorite, because it reminds her a bit of herself. It even has golden eyes. Hagakure colored the sclera black, too.
"Yeah, of course." Momo is the first to snap out of it. "We were going over Chemistry first."
"Yeah, Momo is the only one who knows what she's doing, too. We're all clueless." Jiro mused with a small shake of her head. That was all it took to break the tension. Mina ushered Touya in and forced him to sit between her and Hagakure, who waved happily. The only reason Touya could tell was because of the bracelets on her wrists.
"So, are you any good at Chemistry?" Ochako asked cautiously, and everyone eyed him. Touya felt out of place. Understandable, considering he was a grown ass man sitting in a circle with six teenage girls. God, how did Takashi do it? Touya sighed and rolled his shoulders, cracking his knuckles as though preparing for a fight.
"I fucking rock at Chemistry."

Takashi appeared a little over half an hour later with muffins in tow, beaming cheerfully just as always. He was immediately invited in, Hagakure pulling him down next to Touya. The man still looked unsure, but slightly better than before. Takashi was glad to see his husband getting along with the girls. It was more of a weight off his chest than he thought. While the boys did outnumber the six female students currently in the room, Kirishima and Sero were on Touya's side too, as were Shoto and Izuku. Things were definitely looking up.
"Look." Touya leaned into Takashi, his hands cupped and full of cat erasers. "Mina gave me ten."
"Holy snazz." Takashi whispered in an awed tone, and Touya cracked a grin. It was weird to see him with such a joyous expression on his face. While studying, he'd mostly groaned along with them and muttered, maybe giving a small smile or smirk here and there. He definitely didn't talk much, but he was a bigger help than they thought he'd be. He clearly remembered some information from his time as a first year.
"Here." Touya dumped them in his husband's hands. Takashi let out a quiet squeal, eyes alight with exuberance. Touya's grin widened. "Sort of remind me of my blanket. Look, that one's named after you."
"Does that mean you're the red one?" Takashi poked at it. The girls watched the exchange with silent interest. Momo was contemplative. Touya clearly had a happier side he didn't really show unless Takashi was around, but why was that? It seemed almost as though they knew each other beyond Takashi watching him to ensure he didn't hurt anyone while he went through his rehabilitation.
"No, it's not mean enough looking." Touya shrugged. He pulled a paper towards himself. "Help us with English?"
"Wait, isn't it cheating to have a teacher help us, ribbit?" Tsuyu tilted her head curiously. Takashi was supposedly there to help them if they needed it as he watched Touya, but nobody had really utilized that on an academic level. A few people requested meals that Takashi would agree to make without question, but that was as far as it went. She was pretty curious to know if he'd really be okay helping them out. Or more importantly, if Mr. Aizawa would be.
"I'm sure it's fine! Besides, I'm not helping you as a teacher. I'm helping you as a fluent English speaker." Takashi winked. A few of them brightened immediately. While Hagakure and Momo proved to be pretty adept at the second language, it still didn't change the fact that it was a, well, second language they were learning.
They dove into their studies with new vigor. Knowing someone there actually had an idea of what they were doing was a relief. Takashi had to correct them quite a bit, but they were thankful for it. Mina could practically hear her English grade raising the more and more Takashi directed them. Touya listened with rapt attention, though there were times when he'd zone out and just stare at the brunette for a while with a dopey smile on his face. Takashi would always stick out his tongue or cross his eyes to get the redhead to snap out of it. It never failed to work.
Takashi did have to go off to start fixing dinner after a while, and it was decided that it was better for Touya to go with him. The man profusely thanked Mina for the erasers, shoving them into his hoodie pocket with something akin to smugness that made even Tsuyu chuckle a bit. While Touya hadn't shown as much warmth as they'd seen him when with Takashi, he was still pleasant and good at conversation. Very laid back and chill, with moderate swearing. Compared to Bakugo, it was nothing.
Most of 1-A did convene for dinner. Takashi's food was superb, but the man said that if they were going to eat it, they had to do it at the table. This new rule had sprung up with the green-eyed man somehow found out Kaminari had fourteen dirty dishes in his bedroom. After that, the strict guideline was put in place. If they wanted Takashi's home-cooked meals that tasted like they were crafted by the hands of god, they had to sit together with the class. And Touya. Not too bad, all things considered.
This evening they were having a roast. Touya had whipped up a heavenly bowl of buttery mashed potatoes. It was the only flawless thing he could make, excluding mac and cheese. He could fucking kill mac and cheese. That, however, was currently besides the point. He made mashed potatoes, helped with the green beans, and coached Kirishima through gravy. It was a bit watery, but still considered good. Well, seeing as everyone but Bakugo pretty much blew up the kitchen anytime they touched anything, it was perfect in the eyes of most of the present company.
"I made rolls!" Takashi sung, tossing the bowl across the table. It earned a few shrieks, mainly from Kaminari and Mina, but Touya caught it with ease and settled it down before standing again to catch the two piping-hot pans with his bare hands. Perks of having a fire quirk, he supposed. The scorching head felt almost soothing on his palms as he wickedly grinned, setting the steaming dishes down next to his potato-ey gift to the world and the third lasagna. He'd never seen 1-A look so intimidated. Whether it was by Takashi's power move of straight up tossing food across the room or if it was the fact that Touya caught it with practiced ease, nobody knew. Takashi set down the salad as entered the dining area.
"This looks delicious!" Ochako exclaimed, mouth watering as Takashi plopped down. Touya took the seat next to him, the one on the end. Shoto sat across from him, and Izuku diagonal. It was the best way to seat, they'd learned. Nobody really wanted to sit by Touya. Plenty fought over the seat next to Takashi. Perhaps their reluctance to sit by the redhead had changed. Touya had no idea, but he didn't really care. As long as he was by his husband, all was well.
"Thank you, Ochako! Let's all dig in." Takashi said, and the students all pounced. Takashi hummed to himself in content, dishing out Touya's plate first. The man had this weird thing about how he didn't want his potatoes to touch anything. Especially if he'd made them. The green beans could touch to lasagna or roast, and vice-versa, but god forbid anything brush his potatoes. It was incredibly adorable in Takashi's opinion. He was happy to appease his husband's weird habits.
"Say, Takashi." Momo started idly. "What's your first name?"
Takashi blinked, confused. Touya almost swallowed his water the wrong way, face getting a little red as he forced it down its proper pipe. Shoto didn't seem to care, but Izuku looked ready to burst out laughing. Especially when Takashi cocked his head and looked at Momo like she'd just asked him to speak an even mixture of Russian, French, and Korean.
"Uh... it's Takashi." Takashi raised an eyebrow, absentmindedly putting a roll on Touya's plate when the bowl came their way.
"Is this a Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu situation?" Ojiro whispered. Kirishima shrugged cluelessly.
"Wait, we've been calling you by your first name this entire time?!" Sero gaped. Was Takashi really okay with that? Well, dumb question. He wouldn't have told them his name was Takashi if he wasn't. He was too happy-go-lucky to care about such meager shows of respect. Still, it was common courtesy to call people by their surname until they were comfortable with a first-name basis!
"Yeah, of course!" Takashi chirped happily. Touya pressed his knuckles against his mouth to hide the wild grin aching to spread across his face. These poor kids.
"Then what's your surname?" Tenya was perplexed and slightly appalled. Had he truly been disrespecting Takashi this entire time without knowing?! This was unacceptable. He was an adult worthy of being held in the highest regard. He cooked them dinner, was nothing but kind, and helped bit them at ease as Touya was integrated into the class.
Takashi popped some green beans into his mouth, seeming even more perplexed. They hadn't exactly hid it or anything. Had they? Takashi was vaguely aware that nobody knew they were married, but then Touya had admitted to being married. Had it truly taken them this long to figure it out? Scratch that, they hadn't figured it out, or they wouldn't be asking. Poor little babies. They had no idea what they'd been missing.
"Todoroki?" Takashi rose a brow. The table fell dead silent, save for Bakugo's quiet 'What the fuck? Another?'
Touya choked out a laugh, holding up his ringed finger and tugging on the chain that held Takashi's ring, pulling it into view. A few jaws dropped, and Touya cracked up completely. Takashi was more amused by Touya's cackling than the wide-eyed, pale expressions he was receiving.
Married? Touya was married to Takashi? Them sharing a room made way more sense now, but they were complete opposites in every way! Well, not every way. At first glance they were pretty different, but all the girls knew of the cat erasers sitting in the redhead's hoodie pocket. Despite Takashi being sunshine incarnate and Touya being... not, the pieces still clicked in a satisfying sort of way. Touya's looks, the winks Takashi sent to the man during class. Touya not minding if Takashi was close. Takashi speaking fondly and proudly of Touya. The familiarity of it all. It just...
"Oh my god." Touya wheezed. "Have you guys really never heard us when we-"
"Stop." Shoto slammed his fork down irritably, looking at his brother in all seriousness. "Not in front of my salad."
"Holy shit, they're married." Kaminari blinked, taken aback. A few people looked at him as though he'd just blurted out something in an alien tongue. Momo was having some sort of crisis as she stared at her lasagna. She'd hooked onto the thought of Touya having a disappointed wife somewhere-- most of them had-- that she hadn't even considered maybe Touya had a husband. Or that said husband was right in front of them this whole time.
"I'm also his soulmate! It's why I was chosen to keep him in line. Right, honeybear?" Takashi chirped. The class collectively held their breath.
"Of course, cupcake." Touya threw an arm over his shoulder fondly, opening the floodgates and successfully getting them showered in questions. Takashi didn't seem to mind, and Touya was too happy that he could now exhibit PDA without having to wonder if their marriage was a secret or not to really care.

"Where the hell is Dabi?" Shigaraki griped, scratching his neck. "He should have been here by now! This is our rendezvous... did he get caught? He's a valuable player. His quirk, and his connections in the underground... yes, we need him. Where is he?!"
"Tomura Shigaraki," Kurogiri said coolly. "It seems Dabi had infiltrated UA. I'm sure he's simply undercover, gathering information for us."
Shigaraki relaxed considerably. Smart, smart. He did get caught, then, but he was using it to his benefit. That was smart. Dabi was a good pawn. Shigaraki hadn't even had to tell him what to do, he simply already knew what Shigaraki would have chosen. That was a good skill to have in the League. Being able to predict your leader's desires. Dabi was shaping up to be a smart edition. Originally, he'd been unsure when someone brought up the man. He wasn't disappointed. His flames were destructive, and that's what made them so useful.
"Are you sure?" Twice asked hesitantly before his voice switched. "He didn't even want to be here. What makes you think he's even on our side?"
"You diiiiid have to force him to start those fires!" Toga pointed out cheerfully. Tomura grit his teeth and narrowed his eyes. What were they thinking, questioning him? Of course he was on their side! He'd burned down the forest, after all. If he hadn't actually wanted to comply, he surely would have just attacked. The man wasn't a wuss or anything like that. He'd shown no fear towards Shigaraki in the slightest.
"Of course he's on our side, idiots. I know what I'm talking about." Tomura snapped. Kurogiri seemed skeptical, but knew he was on thin ice. He'd do anything to keep Shigaraki satisfied at the moment.
Elsewhere, while Takashi revealed that they were a Tumblr trend that had several fanfictions written about them based on a single picture of them from behind, Touya sneezed.
