Chapter 12
This was written on my phone so it is by definition absolutely littered with typos and probably shit. I'm sorry-
Third person pov
Touya couldn't stop twitching and shifting uncomfortably. After Takashi had wooed 1-A with his cooking skills and ability to eat incredibly spicy food that even Bakugo had drunk copious amounts of water with, he and Touya had hit the sack. Both of them were heavily exhausted, though Takashi hid it a lot better than Touya. With a brief conversation to make sure they were both okay, they were kissing each other goodnight and passing out in nothing but their boxers.
Now Touya was dressed in some of his better casual clothes. The jeans weren't wrinkled or ripped, and Takashi had cleaned up his shoes and fixed his hair into something more of a style rather than just letting the redhead ruffle it with a towel and be done. He had on a black button up shirt on top of a plain grey shirt. His top most layer was unbuttoned, and he'd rolled the sleeves up to his elbows. Even then he still felt relatively uncomfortable.
Takashi was holding his hand, and had been since they got into the waiting room. He wore jeans, which was pretty tame considering his usual fashion sense. He had on a pair of bright pink boots with white laces and a sweater covered in chibi puppies. It was an adorable, approachable style that would probably set the parents at ease. It certainly set Touya at ease, though he was a bit biased.
"You're going to do great, dear. They'll love you." Takashi assured brightly. "I mean, I like you enough, so I'm sure it'll be just fine!"
"You like everyone." Touya grumbled, glaring at his boots. He wasn't upset with Takashi, of course. Just a little afraid of what was to come. This meeting could cause everything to fall apart. He didn't want these parents to be afraid, or to pull their children out of UA just because he was here. They were here to become heroes, and he would hate himself for getting in the way of that. Especially after the part he played in the attack during what was supposed to be a fun and educational summer camp.
"I like you the most, though." Takashi assured him with a smile that just about melted Touya's erratically beating heart. Whether it was racing due to being so close to Takashi, who was adorable, or if it was galloping along because of stress he was under, he had no idea. All he knew was that... well, he felt afraid. He didn't like the admit it, but it was true. He was fucking terrified.
"Well I like you the most too." Touya said, taking a deep breath. Takashi snuggled further into his shoulder in response, earning himself a small smile from the scarred redhead. Truth be told, things could be worse. Both had expected they might have to talk to parents. Of course, Takashi had been expecting it a little more. Being a teacher, he'd dealt with parent-teacher conferences all the time. Especially with how much of an effort he put into communicating with parents. This was... well, going to be a little different than that.
The door to the conference room slid open, and with it came a fresh wave of dread that washed over Touya like a tidal wave. By the way Takashi tensed, he felt the emotion overcome his soulmate. Touya winced to himself. He knew he was being a wuss, but he'd seen what angry parents could do. Takashi had calmly dealt with too many of them to count, so Touya knew he'd be fine. But angry parents... that had absolutely nothing on an angry mother and/or father.
"It's time." Aizawa sounded about as grim as he looked. Takashi hopped to his feet like a spring uncoiling, subsequently pulling Touya up with him in the process. The morose Todoroki knew better than to fight it. There was absolutely no avoiding this, and he'd resigned himself to that hours ago when he realized this probably wasn't even going to be the worst thing he went through in this hell. It was only a matter of time before the blonde brat blew him up, or worse, Endeavor showed up and reduced him to ash.
"Come on, Touya!" Takashi chirped, willing him forward. He let himself be led into the room. He was happy Takashi was so optimistic. Of course he'd always loved that about the brunette, but now he was particularly thankful for the trait. Takashi was disarming. He was short, always smiling, and had a personality akin to a ball of literal sunshine. He wasn't at all intimidating unless he so wished to be. Those features, no matter how misleading they happened to be, would work in their favor.
The room clearly didn't have every parent of every child, but quite the crowd had gathered. All the parents stared, some glaring, at Touya as he was dragged into the room that could very well end up being his death bed. The guardians of the students were all shoved at one end of the table. Nezu was at the opposite end, one chair on his left, and two on his right. Takashi made a bee-line for his right.
"Touya, Takashi! I'm pleased to see you could make it." Nezu said, knowing full and well they'd been waiting outside the door. Touya gave the principal a dry look. Takashi was a little different. He responded with twice as much enthusiasm.
"Thanks for having us!" Takashi chirped as though this were the best day of his life. Then again, he sounded like that every day. Maybe to him, everyday was better than the last. Touya was both envious and glad for that.
"Why don't you introduce yourselves?" Nezu's question wasn't much of a question, but more of a demand. Touya gave him that same dry look, fingers still laced with Takashi's. He was glad he and Takashi were allowed to come in here together like this. Touya wasn't quite sure what he'd do or how he'd act without his husband around. Clearly he could be pretty fucking stupid. Takashi made up 90% of his self control, which was ironic considering Touya had stopped the short man from impulsively buying a puppy at least thirty times.
Takashi turned towards the parents. Most were skeptical and tense, but considering. The tape recorder sitting in the center of the table told Touya why. They'd all heard the statement Touya hadn't realized he was making, and now they were all probably wondering just how true it was. Touya was disappointed to say there wasn't a single lie in the entire tape. The story was really that pathetic.
"Hello, everyone! I'm Takashi Todoroki, and this is my husband and soulmate, Touya Todoroki!" Takashi held up their hands, and a few looked surprised. Had they not known? "Say hi, Touya."
"Uh... yo." Touya muttered out, averting his gaze awkwardly. Takashi squeezed his hand reassuringly, clearly feeling the anxiety that was beginning to claw its way up Touya's spine. The redhead couldn't help it. He felt like he could implode at any moment and totally lose it. He was glad Takashi was here. The green-eyed man was... grounding, in a way. Like an anchor keeping Touya in control of where he went and what he did.
"Excellent. Take a seat, take a seat. We have a lot to discuss." Nezu said. Takashi plopped down, leaving Touya the chair closer to the principal. Touya was relieved to have someone sitting between him and the small hoard of angry mothers and fathers sitting not too far away. A woman that looked scarily like Bakugo was glaring daggers at Touya. Takashi remained calm and unnerved, meeting the woman's blaring gaze with a smile Touya couldn't help but be impressed by.
A woman sitting next to what seemed to be Bakugo's mother meekly raised a hand, clearing her throat. "Excuse me, Principal Nezu. I don't mean to interrupt. I was wondering if I could ask a question before we start." She seemed calm and sweet, if nothing else, but there was a stormy war raging in her eyes that made Touya shiver. Other than that... well, she looked familiar.
"Of course!" Nezu really was in no position to be denying the parents here anything. Not after all that had happened. Takashi took in a deep, slow breath, tightening his grip on his husband's hand. The atmosphere in here was stifling. So suffocating even he struggled to keep up his smile, even if he was quite happy to see so many turn outs for this. The more people who realized Touya was just a big, cuddly teddy bear, the better!
"You said your last name was Todoroki." The woman lowered her hand and placed it in her lap, looking between Touya and Takashi in an unsure manner. They both braced for a question about Endeavor. "Are you... by chance related to Shoto Todoroki?"
Touya blinked, surprised. "Er, yeah. He's my little brother." Touya squinted at her. Takashi gasped.
"You're Inko, aren't you?!" The brunette exclaimed, causing a few of the parents to jump and become confused. Touya's eyes widened in surprise. Of course! It made sense that Izuku's mother would be here. He'd talked about her a lot, explaining that his father had ditched them and that his mother had worked hard to raise him. From what Touya and Takashi could tell, they should be taking some damn notes. Izuku was a literal angel of a kid.
"Y-Yes, that's me." She looked just as startled as everyone else. Touya couldn't help but break into a smile, though it wasn't as beaming as Takashi's. It was smaller, but there. It felt good to smile.
"It's great to meet you. Izuku has said a lot about you." Touya noted, glancing at his husband. "Ah, damn. I'm sorry we had to meet under these uh... circumstances. I know I'm not... your favorite person right now..." He averted his gaze again, everything he wanted to say dying on his tongue as the reality of the situation hit him again like a slap to the face. Takashi squeezed his hand, but didn't falter in his bright-eyed look.
"Izuku mentioned me?" Inko looked shell shocked.
"Izuku is literally the purest thing I've ever seen in my life." Takashi said with all seriousness.
"I feel like I should be taking notes on parenting from you." Touya admitted, trying his best to relax. Inko's cheeks went a little red at the compliment, and the present parents looked even more confused, if not a little more at ease. Nezu smiled. Takashi swayed slightly from side to side out of excitement, like a wriggling puppy. It earned him a fond smile from Touya as he began to rub circles on the brunette's palm with his thumb.
"Now, now, there will be time for small talk later!" Nezu pressed his paws together thoughtfully. "We all know why we're here, and we've all heard the recording. This is a chance for you to voice questions, comments, complaints, concerns, requests, and objections. It's basically a big discussion, that's all."
"Alright, then I would like to make a complaint." Mitsuki hissed out. "What the fuck?"
"Dear..." Masaru trailed off with a wince, shooting an apologetic look at Takashi. Touya huffed slightly. At least someone understood.
"A valid concern!" Takashi seemed to decide readily in a way that made Touya uneasy. What did Takashi have planned? "When I learned what Touya had done in his moment of complete, utter dumbassery, I dragged his moping self here and forced him to apologize for his mistakes. Now he's here to finish his high school education under the watchful eye of some of the countries best pros, and of course, me."
Mitsuki looked severely taken aback and surprised by the calm yet cheerful approach. He hadn't answered jokingly. He was dead serious.
"Pardon, but what exactly can you do? You're his soulmate. How can we really trust you?" A man in an expensive suit with black, slicked back hair and sharp coal eyes asked. He was most definitely glaring at Takashi as he said this. Touya braced for the worst, tensing considerably and glancing at his husband to see what he'd do. He had faith in Takashi's control over his temper, but the stress was crushing. Touya tried to keep the grimace off his face. By the looks he was getting, he wasn't doing so well.
"My quirk is called Rage." Takashi smiled pleasantly. "The angrier I get, the stronger I get. I'm also a certified teacher. I taught preschool before this, and can refer you to several separate sources that can cite my character and overall personality based on many first-person encounters. I also made Touya come here against his will and even resorted to physical violence, as ashamed as I am to admit it, when he gave a half-assed apology."
The man looked like he wanted to say something, but clearly had no idea how to respond. He just stared at Takashi in a dumbfounded silence.
"He's dangerous. How can we allow him around our children, even with his soulmate keeping him under wraps?" Another woman eyed Touya like he was some sort of drug addict psychopath.
"Ah..." Touya spoke up, earning everyone's attention. They looked as though they hadn't realized he would speak or attempt to engage at all. He gulped, but raised the hand that wasn't tangled with Takashi's anyway. "I uh... I let them put these on me. They stop me from using my quirk. Other than that... I really didn't mean for any of that to happen. It was never my goal to hurt anyone. Especially not kids, man. That's fucked up. My back pain can confirm that I was judo flipped- twice- by Takashi. And I love my little brother. I wouldn't do shit to hurt him. Ever." He glared down at the table at the mere thought. The atmosphere in the room became real awkward, real fast following that. Nobody knew what to say to him. Nobody seemed to want to say anything to him.
"Alright, say this is all a huge misunderstanding and his isn't a villain. We still don't know him. He's a mysterious and potentially dangerous man, and I don't want him around my daughter." Someone who was very clearly Jiro's mother frowned, her glasses glinting.
"If you would like to know more about us and our lives, you can ask." Takashi chirped. Mitsuki looked less angry, and more considering as she shifted in her seat. She had a stubborn expression on her face. It would take a lot to convince her. Touya had a sinking feeling Takashi had brought the fire power they needed, and that scared him just a bit.
"Alright, fine." The champagne blonde woman still held bite in her voice. "What kind of people are you? What life style do you live?"
"I'm glad you asked, because I brought pictures." Takashi was standing up and pulling a stack of photos out from his back pocket before anyone could move. Touya's jaw dropped.
"Babe, don't. I'm begging you." Touya pleaded immediately. It fell on deaf ears as Takashi got a wicked glint in his eye, standing up straight and ready to present. A few of the parents scooted closer to the table as the brunette cleared his throat. They were curious. Touya dreaded that.
"Subject one." Takashi whipped out a photo, grinning almost slyly. Touya was sure the mortification showed on his face. "We go to cat cafes more often than either of us care to admit. Here's proof. Touya is covered in cats, and if you look in the background, you can see none other than Shota Aizawa, proving it's a decent establishment-"
"Wait, what?" Aizawa hadn't said anything before now, snatching the photo and bringing it up to his face. A few of the parents were snickering from the image as Touya lowered his burning face to the table, lightly letting his forehead thump against the wood. Takashi was far from done.
"Here's us at a gay pride parade. I know we have masks on, but come on. It's totally us." Takashi thrust the photo forward. Touya's scars, painted rainbow or not, were a dead give away as to who they were. Not to mention Takashi's eyes. Green eyes weren't terribly uncommon, but his had a certain gleam to them.
"I...Is that Present Mic?" A man Takashi presumed to be Jiro's father squinted.
"It is." Takashi said. Aizawa snatched that one too, looking more flabbergasted than anyone had ever seen him. "Here's one of us performing in Christmas Carol! Touya was Piano and company, while I was company and a dancer as well. Oh, and this is us in Heathers. Doesn't he make a good JD? I thought the coat suited him. I can't believe they let us keep it." He rambled, sliding the photos down the length of the table towards them. Jiro's parents looked completely on board now despite it only having been a few minutes, having seen not only Present Mic, but hearing of more music-related things.
"You both look like you're enjoying yourselves." A man with short black hair and sharp teeth smiled a little at the photos as they were passed around.
"Oh, we did. I rocked that skirt." Takashi's charisma was working. He earned a few laughs and a few more relaxed shoulders. "This is us at home. It was the one time I managed to force Touya into a snuggie. No regrets. Here's us getting our tattoos together! Yay soulmates! Oh, oh, and this is Touya stuck in a tree. He saw a cat up there and went to get it. We can all see how well that went."
"What th- don't show them that one!" Touya looked mortified, but it was too late. The picture of him, distressed and clinging to a branch and an orange tabby with an odd black splotch over half its face was sliding down the table. Aizawa gazed after it incredulously.
"Was that... my cat?" The dark-haired man was still holding the photos with both him and Present Mic in it.
"Absolutely." Takashi said with absolutely no trace of doubt. Touya and Aizawa both stared at him blankly.
"So... so he really was in the wrong place at the wrong time? Touya?" A woman with bright yellow hair with a black streak through it asked, looking hesitant to even consider the possibility. Mitsuki was cackling over the photo of Touya in the tree.
"I really was." Touya groaned, wishing he could die but also glad the parents weren't the ones killing him. This was going so much better and so much worse than he thought it was in so many ways, and he didn't know if he should hate it all or be crying tears of sheer relief.
"That's right! Here's us with hot chocolate mustaches, us right after our wedding, Touya in hot pink cat socks, him letting my students face paint him, and last but not least," Takashi held up the last photo like it was a trophy. The parents all followed it. "Him drooling in his sleep while cuddling his cat blanket."
"You said you deleted that." Touya hissed and swiped at it, but it was already rocketing towards the still hysterically-giggling Mitsuki Bakugo. The rest of the parents had easily gone from suspicious, scared, and pissed to relaxed, amused, and some even smiling at them. And they hadn't even been here that long. Even Nezu looked taken aback, like he was questioning himself. It made sense, though. Takashi always did have a certain thing about him that simply made people trust him.
"Babe, I did. I just made a copy first." Takashi said idly, as though he had done nothing wrong. Touya stared at him with his lips pressed together in a manner that showed he was both done and deeply in love, somehow. Takashi was dangerous. He was dangerous, but Touya adored him for it. Even if... even if damn.
"I can't believe I thought this dumbass was dangerous." Mitsuki snorted, seeming the most amused out of everyone. She turned to Takashi "And you, you're a fucking riot. I'm not too worried with you around."
"Even if he wasn't, I can't seem to be intimidated by him after seeing this." The man in the nice suit admitted, brows furrowing as he gazed down at the picture of Takashi is hot pink cat socks. Touya sat there in a shocked silence, staring blankly at the table as Takashi plopped back down into his seat and laced their fingers together again. The comfort was much appreciated, but he almost couldn't find it in himself to process it. This was happening. He wasn't dying, but instead being humiliated. This almost wasn't worth it. They all knew he drooled and was afraid of climbing trees. His reputation had just gone up in smoke.
"If Bakugo-san is okay with him remaining, I am too. It was her son that was kidnapped, after all." Someone who couldn't be anyone other than Tenya Iida's mother said levelly.
"I agree." Jiro's mother and father both said. That seemed to trigger it. Everyone else burst out with agreement and trust in the school and Takashi. Not only that, but Touya's quirk was suppressed. And he slept with a cat blanket and drooled. Really, he was the opposite of villainous. He was just a man with scars and a coincidentally powerful quirk who just so happened to get wrapped in a shit show he never wanted to be a part of. He was just... well, just some guy trying to live his life with his soulmate in peace.
"I don't see any reason not to give them the benefit of the doubt. You two have opened up to us greatly." Inko smiled. If they were already calling Izuku by his first name, that meant they'd at least talked to him. Izuku was an excellent judge of character. One of the best Inko had ever seen. If he trusted them enough that they were already on a first-name basis, even if Shoto and him being soulmates probably had something to do with it, then it was fine by her. The school had this in the bag.
"So wait, can you two like, actually sing?" Jiro's dad looked between them.
"I'm not that good. Takashi can belt it out." Touya responded immediately. Takashi scoffed and swatted at him.
"We can both sing. Touya's voice is naturally powerful and I've been singing my whole life, so mine can hold out pretty long too! We both really love musicals as well, so it's not like we never practice." Takashi smiled brightly, happy with the lack of tension and slight subject change. He was glad he was able to get rid of the weight in the room so quickly! He thought it would take a few minutes longer than that, honestly. Maybe these parents were desperate for some good news.
"We duet in the shower every day." Touya said almost absentmindedly. After all, it was one of the many highlights of his day. They hadn't really had time to shower this morning. They'd probably have to start doing it in the evenings, especially considering their schedule now...
"So you're both nerds, then?" Mitsuki grinned. Masaru looked exasperated. "This is amazing. I don't know why the fuck I was worried, honestly. Keep my brat in line for me. God knows what he'll do now that he's away from home."
"Oh, Bakugo's just fine. Just a little feisty is all!" Takashi assured. Mitsuki looked heavily pleased by this, seeming almost smug for some reason. Touya was glad, because she was the one he'd been the most afraid of. A mother's wrath was something to behold. He'd seen even Endeavor back down from Rei during the few times she'd snapped and went off on him, pushing aside all fear to protect her children in their most desperate of times.
"Excellent, so we're all in agreement that Touya is relatively harmless and didn't mean to get wrapped up in the tragic attack?" Nezu chimed back in, looking painfully satisfied. Takashi happily hummed to himself under his breath. He was glad they could all see the Touya he knew, even if it was just photos. Touya was an amazing man. He was interesting in every way, and hid such a personality under his broody demeanor. One he never let anyone, save for Takashi himself, see.
"Hell yeah." Mitsuki answered for everyone, deciding right then and there that she liked both Takashi and Touya. Considering her temper, that was rare.
"Have Jiro give you my number if you want to talk about maybe piecing together a record." Jiro's dad was really caught up on the singing thing. Iida's mother cleared her throat.
"What has Endeavor said about all this?" She asked. Takashi's eyes flashed red, and the few that saw stiffened slightly. Inko grimaced and looked away to hide her rage. Shoto had shown up on her doorsteps only a handful of times, but he'd been severely injured each time. Covered in bruises and cuts, most of the time with a head wound of some kind and a dazed look in his eyes. Izuku would never fail to choke out a sob at the sight, and beg, yes, beg Shoto to let him do something to get him away from Endeavor. But Shoto never let him. He just shook his head and bit back tears of his own.
"He is not aware that Touya is even alive." Nezu answered this time. "We would like to keep it that way. It has come to our attention that the Number Two hero may not be as heroic as he seems."
"Understatement of the fucking year." Touya muttered under his breath. Takashi took a few deep breaths to try and calm himself as the parents all hesitantly agreed, seeming more confused than they were suspicious. That was a good thing. They didn't need people to go digging before they could officially open a case.
A few more questions and conversations wrapped up the meeting, which had ended up being surprisingly short. Takashi collected his photos but slipped Mitsuki the picture of Touya drooling at the last second with a wink that sent her cackling. Inko lingered for a moment as though maybe she wanted to talk, but ended up darting out with the crowd as they filtered out. Takashi looked incredibly satisfied, Aizawa was still squinting at the photos that had him and Mic, and possibly his cat, and Nezu was humming. Touya... well, Touya was relieved. He was going to die young from a heart attack at this rate.
"Well." Takashi chirped. "That went well, didn't it?"
Touya groaned. But hey, he'd been right.
Everyone loved Takashi.
