chapter three
Ultimate betrayal
DINAH'S MIND HAD FELT SCRAMBLED ever since she met Elijah Mikaelson. A part of her thought that maybe it was the way she seemed to be hypnotized by the mere sight of him but, if she was honest, there was a pinch in her mind that it was something completely different because sometimes? It felt like her mind wasn't her own anymore.
"Hmph." She huffed, laying out comfortably on the couch as she looked at the ceiling.
The woman heard her door burst open, and while she would usually jump straight up, her body and mind was too exhausted to allow it. She hadn't even opened up the bar that day, too little energy to do what had to be done. It was like she wasn't herself, she was too relaxed.
"Dinah? What are you doing home?" Cami asked, her brows furrowed as she closed her door shut.
"Nothing, absolutely nothing." The Levy woman replied, letting out a light sigh. "You're home at a weird hour."
"Yeah, well, I have been doing some digging on something so it's good you are here." The O'Connell woman said before bending down over the coffee table, her arms gently making space for the papers in her hands. "You know how me and Sean used to have a secret code?"
"The weird random lines? Yes." Dinah nodded her head lightly before sitting up in place. "Of course."
"Well, those random lines gave me a message." Cami scrambled through her papers and finally pulled one out, laying it down on the table. "and look what it says."
"Klaus Mikaelson 1919." The Levy woman read, furrowing her brows slightly. "Are you sure you remember exactly how to decipher your code?"
"It's pretty specific to be an accident, don't you think?" Camille asked carefully, tilting her head.
Both women looked completely tense, and the brunette hadn't even seen the full extent of her friends research.
"Okay, so, Klaus, 1919, what does it mean?" Dinah slid herself off the couch, her knees hitting the ground in front of the coffee table lightly.
"That's the thing, I know exactly what it means." Cami cut in, searching once again through her stacks of paper before sliding a photo in front of her best friend.
A photo from 1919.
"Is that—... is that Marcel? And Klaus?" Dinah felt her heart sink into her chest at the sight of these men. She had heard of doppelgängers in the world, everyone had one but, this?
It wasn't a doppelgänger.
Klaus Mikaelson and Marcel Gerard.
Their names had been written on the paper right there in bold black letters.
"What does it mean?" The Levy woman asked, her brows furrowed slightly.
She couldn't comprehend any of this, even if she tried. Sure, she had heard of witches, and voodoo, and the other tourist trap bullshit in town but, if it actually turned out to be real? The woman felt like that was something straight out of a dream.
No, a nightmare.
"I don't know."
DINAH LIGHTLY CLEARED HER THROAT AS SHE CAME face to face with the man that had come to her door. As terrifying as the revelation from earlier was, a part of her was still drawn to the brunette man. From his perfectly wrinkle free suits, to the crisp and clean shoes he wore, the woman was entranced by him.
Weather she liked it or not.
"Look who it is." The Levy woman smiled lightly. "Elijah Mikaelson in the flesh."
"I sense some hostility coming from you Ms. Levy, may I ask why?" The brunette man tilted his head to the side slightly, studying the woman before him.
"I am anything but hostile." Dinah shrugged her shoulders. "In fact, i'd love it if you came in, had a glass of wine."
She stepped to the side, allowing the man entry. With all the thoughts running through her head, she needed to get to the bottom of this 1919 business and besides going to Klaus for answers, Elijah was most definitely the next and safest step. She hoped to prod something out of him.
Maybe things weren't how they seemed? Or maybe all her friends were playing some weird prank on her.
"I cannot stay for long, I have family business to attend to." The Mikaelson man carefully walked inside of the room, making sure to look at his feet as he did.
It struck the woman as odd, however, she had seen it many times before.
"Is everything alright?" As Dinah closed the door, she leaned up against it, the brunette man standing straight across from her. "With your siblings, I mean."
"Yes, however it is the family of my niece that I care about. They've gotten themselves into a bit of a mess." Elijah smiled infectiously as he tilted his head. "But it'll all be resolved soon."
"Ah, how old is she?" The Levy woman felt her palms begin to sweat as she pushed herself off the wall, walking past the familiar man, their shoulders briefly touching.
"Well, zero, technically. She hasn't been born yet." The Mikaelson man turned on his heel so his eyes could follow where the woman went, it seemed like he could look at her for hours and never get bored.
"Oh, she's not even out of her moms belly and trouble is starting." Dinah laughed lightly, shaking her head as she headed into the kitchen to pour herself a drink. "Reminds me of when I was a kid, my parents ran away when they found out they were having me, restarted here."
"That sounds romantic." Elijah noted, his eyes leaving her as he looked around the room.
Landing on a certain pile of papers.
"Far from it, their life went downhill from there for a really long time, i'm surprised they turned out—" Dinah practically jumped out of her skin when she noticed the proximity between her and the Mikaelson man, his breath hitting her skin as she let in a large gulp.
"Where did you find this?" He asked, his expression completely unreadable.
Cold.
"I—I uhm—... it's not mine." She replied to him simply, letting her back press fully against the countertop behind her. "A contact of mine was giving me old photos from the quarter, for the bar."
Elijah reached up, placing a soft hand on the face of the woman before him.
"Your heart is beating fast." He noted, "You're lying."
"No i'm not." Dinah felt a chill reach all the way down her spine as her and the man kept their eyes locked into each others, neither planning to avert them anytime soon. "Why would I be lying?"
"You will forget that you ever seen this photo, and the information behind it." Elijah took in a deep breath as he spoke, his eyes sad. "... and you will forget I came to see you."
... and with that, the man was gone. Not that the Levy woman noticed.
She smiled as she walked back toward the living room, stopping at the mirror by the front door first. Her heart dropped when she read the words don't trust a word the Mikaelsons tell you, why would it say that? She wasn't understanding.
"What are you doing?" Cami asked as she walked into the house, her brows furrowed slightly.
Dinah simply pointed at the mirror, her blonde friend staring at it too. Both of them stood there for a few seconds, trying to comprehend the words in front of them. It was written in Camille's handwriting, they knew that, but, the pieces of the puzzle weren't connecting.
"This isn't completely weird." Dinah finally spoke, running a hand over her face.
"There's another one." Cami spoke, walking past her friend as she picked it up, the words your bag, inside pocket written in black letters.
"This just got all Clue." The Levy woman said with a scoff, sitting down on the couch as her friend dug through her purse.
"... and so then I bit Elijah and left him with my hybrid venom in his veins, serves him right for making such vile accusations against me." Klaus spoke over the recorder she had pressed play on.
Let's just say, these woman just got into a lot more than they had ever intended.
DINAH CLUTCHED THE BROWN BAG OF CARRYOUT close to her side. She was going to be careful around her surroundings, more than usual at least. Her and Cami had to figure out what to do with what they had found, and they had to figure it out quick.
"You're almost home." She breathed out shakily, walking up to the door before quickly unlocking it.
She automatically shut it behind her, the woman's feet quickly running up the stairs. She found comfort in her own home now, with her best friend, their favorite takeout in hand. Problem was, they had both allowed access to vampires, and there was no turning back from that.
"Cami, I got what we needed. Now we can figure out what to do with the recordings!" The brunette yelled out, her best friend walking out of her room.
"What recordings?" The O'Connell girl asked as she tilted her head slightly.
"The ones about Klaus?" Dinah furrowed her brows in confusion, she figured that was important enough to remember, but, maybe she was wrong.
"What ones—" Cami was stopped by a knocking at the door, the woman immediately going to answer.
The Levy woman stayed back though, remaining cautious of the outside world.
"Cami, I need your help. Marcel has been lying to me, and I can't trust him anymore." A young woman said as soon as the door opened, the two roommates exchanging odd glances.
"Who's this?" Dinah asked.
"I don't know..." the O'Connell woman trailed off before turning her full attention to the young girl. "I'm sorry, do I know you?"
"Oh, you've been compelled." The teen walked in, shutting the door behind her as the two older women watched.
"What are you doing?" Cami questioned, completely and utterly confused.
"My question, exactly." Dinah added, folding her arms across her chest.
"If one of you is compelled, both of you must be." The young girl spoke, standing in front of them. "Don't worry, I can help but, this is going to hurt."
When she held her hand up, all the Levy woman could feel was pain.
... and she screamed out so loud the whole world could hear.
AUTHORS CORNER—
Omg i'm literally so ready for her to know about the supernatural even if it's only chapter 3, it's just so boring for her not to know.
How do you think Dinah will react to things?
Hope you enjoyed!
